Games CD appears on Desktop as Audio CD AND Game CD and launches iTunes

I have a number of game CDs that have worked previously with OS X in 'Classic' mode. However since the latest update to iTunes (7.4.2) whenever I insert them they appear on the Desktop as TWO CDs - one an Audio CD and the other the normally labelled game CD.
Even more weirdness, iTunes then auto-launches and asks me if I want to import the content of the Audio CD
**UPDATE thanks to the answer to another question I can now turn this prompt off but iTunes still auto-launches **
Can't seem to find a way to turn this annoying behaviour off and it's made at least one of the games (Settlers II - original version) unplayable as the game now cannot see the Settlers II disc

This is odd indeed. It sounds like the discs are definitely multi-session discs, and that's why you see separately mounted volumes on your Desktop.
As a workaround, you can go to System Preferences > CDs & DVDs and change what your computer does when you insert music CDs. In my case, I have it set to Ignore, but it sounds like you have it set to Open iTunes.
Have you checked whether it makes any difference if you start Classic before inserting the disc(s) in question? I would think that with Classic running, and your CDs & DVDs preferences set as I've suggested above, you should be able to double-click the session of the game disc NOT identified by the Finder as an audio CD (the one bearing the title of the game). From the resulting Finder window, you ought to be able to launch the game normally.

    Hi webn,
I understand that you do not wish to see phone calls on your iPad anymore. I have an article for you with some information on accomplishing this goal:
Connect your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac using Continuity - Apple Support

    Turn off iPhone cellular calls
To turn off iPhone cellular calls on your iPad or iPod touch, go to Settings > FaceTime and turn off iPhone Cellular Calls.

  • Audio Playback and Certain Games

Hello, i just upgraded to 7.0 the day it came out and ive had this problem since day one. i have tried to change ALL settings i can think of on my audio card and on itunes but it doesnt help.
Whenever i play video games such as World of Warcraft, Empire Earth II and Call of Duty 2, the audio file either timestamps faster or slows down followed by scratching and distortion. I quit the game and the sound problem continues. I have to restart itunes for it to go away.
I did not have this problem in previous versions and i am wondering what solutions there might be. Am i forced to go back to Winamp for audio pleasures?

Same.... Now I can't listen to any of my music in iTunes whilst playing on the World of Warcraft, yet before the update it worked fine? Now the music just sounds like it's skipping back and forth :S
Just got back from my friends who seemed to also develop playback problems with the new iTunes, yet the music was working fine minutes before the upgrade?! Both of us have pretty new PC's so I can't imagine that it's the pc's :S
Any ideas? Or can we have the old version back?

  • 6th gen nano appears on desktop but not in itunes

6th gen nano appears on desktop when I plug it in, but not in itunes.  I've never set my ipod to disk mode.  It never did this before, why all of a sudden? Having the same problem when I plug my girlfriends nano into my computer too.  Any advice?  Both my OS and iTunes are at the most up to date versions.
    Thanks, Matt

Thanks for the response... that still didn't work for me but this latest iTunes update seems to have fixed the problem!

i cannot get my ipad to respond.  The apple logo appears and then a white line with a locked box and the end and Itunes logo.  That is it.  pushing my respond button does nothing.

    YOU ARE IN RECOVERY MODE
    1. Turn off iPad
    2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
    3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
    4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
    5. Release Home button.
    ON COMPUTER
    6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
    7. Select "Restore iPad"...
    Note:
    1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
    2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.
    3. Repeat the process if necessary.

I downloaded itunes on my pc, but it says I have an audio problem and won't let me play the game I purchased, any ideas?

Why do you assume that this problem is a "bug" that Apple has to address, and not a problem with your phone, that you need to address.  Do you see others having this specific problem?
    Try:
    1. Reset phone (no data loss): press both the home and power buttons for at least 10 seconds, releasing when the Apple logo appears
    2. Install using iTunes on your computer/

  • Ipod not being recognized by Itunes, yet appears on desktop.

Earlier today I had my 80 gb ipod classic plugged into my ancient G4 Powerbook.  Everything was fine until the ipod accidently fell off of my desk.  In falling it had dislatched itself from the usb connection.  I had got the message on my computer screen about the device being removed in the wrong manner. I went through the ipod's menu to see if everything was alright, and low and behold all my songs were gone.  I had decided to plug my Ipod back in the computer.  It showed up on the desktop as usual but when I brought Itunes up it didn't appear in the side panel.  I rebooted my computer and I reset my ipod but to no avail.  I know that all isn't lost because I can still see my songs are on the ipod, yet I can't access them when I have the ipod connected into my computer (The only folders I have access to are Calendars, Contacts, Notes, Photos and Recordings).  As of right now I can still see that 54 out of 80 gbs are available.  I'm at a bit of a standstill in what to do next though.  If I can't save my songs then i'll just have to take the loss but I'm hoping that I can do something.
    Thanks in advance.

I had a similar problem. My iPod Classic would even launch iTunes when I connected it but it only appeared in the Finder, not in iTunes. I finally found an old Apple Support article that worked for me:
    Delete the iPod.plist file
Quit iTunes. Delete the following file in the your home directory and open iTunes again.
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.ipod.plist
After I deleted the plist, I reconnected the iPod, iTunes started automatically, and the iPod was recognized by iTunes and synced.

  • IPod not appearing on desktop or in iTunes Library

My iPod will not appear on my desktop or in my iTunes library after launching iTunes and connecting the iPod to the computer. It shows up in Profiler, but no where else. My iPod is charged, the "Hold" switch is not on, I have updated iTunes, have restarted computer & iTunes, nothing is working. I borrowed a friends USB Cable connector and after plugging hers into my iPod and my computer, it appeared on my desktop like it should. So I bought a new cord, and now am still having the same problem. Any suggestions? I don't think I need to restore my iPod since using another cable worked.

Hello all, have an idea for you to try.. because you're right, if the i-pod is still charging, i'm sure it's not the cord that's messed up.. so the only thing i could think of is the USB port maybe.. so try connecting to a different USB port, if that doesn't work.. try this.
Try changing the drive letter, like this:
    -have the iPod plugged in
-right click "my computer" on the desktop
    -select manage
-go to "storage" and "disk management" underneath it (it's a branch of it)
-Your iPod should show up here
-right click on the drive that is the USB port with the iPod in it (it might be called just "mass storage device")
-select "change drive letter and paths"
-a menu will pop up. Select
    change"
-Pick a new letter for this drive, one that is NOT YET used for any other drive, like Q or something
All this does is rename the USB port from "E" or whatever ot was to "Q", so it's not going to harm anything, and worth a try. If it didn't help, and you don't like Q, you can always change it back to E.
    Hope this helps!

  • IPod nano does NOT appear on Desktop or iTunes

My mac gave me a message saying Itunes, and quicktime need to updated. I did so and my mac restarted. Afterwards my iPod Nano no longer appears on my desktop or in iTunes. (Actually my nano only appears when iTunes is closed.
When I remove my iPod Nano then there is a message saying a device was removed improperly.
I also have a 30 GB iPod. It will appear on the desktop and in iTunes. My iPod 8 GB Nano will not appear on my G5 ( I have two. One is running 10.5.2 and the other is running 10.4.11. Both with iTunes 7.6. The problem appears to be centered around 8 GB iPod Nano.
I also plugged my ipod nano into firewire that plugs into an adapter that plugs into electric socket. AND still no response from my iPod Nano.

  • External drive icon not appearing on desktop

Hi - I have also posted this in the Time Machine forum as this is where my problem started. New iMac yesterday - replacement for faulty iMac which I had backed up using Time Machine. Reinstall from Time Machine effortless - no problem. Downloaded available software updates and 10.5.7 onto new iMac. No problem until I go to do another backup. Time Machine does not recognise external drive and I get "volume could not be found" message. At this point in time the external drive icon is showing on the desktop. Give up and go to bed thinking I will reformat external drive in the morning and start again
This morning, I boot up the machine but the external drive icon has disappeared from the desktop. Unplug external HD from usb and plug in again. No icon on desktop although it shows in Finder and Time Machine.
Anyway - I turned Time Machine off and then pointed it at the Ext. HD - went to back up now and magic - did complete backup and has done a second subsequently. Seems to have created a second backup folder separate from the one created by previous machine from which I reinstalled. Still no desktop icon! Switch iMac off and on again - still no desktop icon. So why - the Ext. drive is recognised and works so why isn't an icon for it appearing on the desktop?
Please help - I need answers to these weird happenings
    Thanks
    Ann
    .

Problem solved and it was so simple - just had to go to Finder, Preferences, General and tick the box that says external devices. Desktop icon has returned:-) Don't know why it became unticked but everything now is working absolutely fine (as far as I know lol) Hope this is the start of a good relationship between me and my new Mac!

  • Firefox runs in background (appear in Task Manager Processes Tab) only and does not appear on Desktop

I have been using Firefox on my Desktop PC with Windows XP for a long time. However, today possibly due to some virus (I attached an infected flash drive to my PC) a suspicious change in homepage (www.delta-homes.com) of my firefox occurred. Simultaneously an error message of "WinZip" appeared on screen. I figured that there must be some software in "C:\Program Files\" which is also causing problem to my firefox. I opened Program Files and removed that folder named WinZip. (Tried to uninstall it but it won't happen so I had to use "Unlocker" to kill processes this folder was associated with and then deleted the folder.)
From that point onward, My FireFox started to behave weird. Whenever I click on Firefox icon or access firefox.exe from any source (start menu, quick launch, program files, Run Command), it starts but appears only in "Task Manager Processes Tab". In that Processes Tab, firefox.exe is continuously using 50% of CPU but it does not appear on Desktop at all.
To go a step further, I uninstalled firefox and tried to re-download from Firefox official website but the download fails in the start saying "Download is interrupted". (See attached Image). So I downloaded a previous version of Firefox (v 34.0) from www.filehippo.com and installed it but the same problem is happening with this version too.
I am confused and surprised what might be causing this problem. Everything else on PC running fine. Kindly help me restore my Firefox so that I may not lose any precious Bookmarks, Settings and other Data. thanks

  • Horizontal refresh lines appearing on Desktop Preview since 10.6 upgrade

I just recently upgraded my system to Snow Leopard, and unfortunately I am now getting TERRIBLE horizontal refresh lines during full screen playback in FCP 7 on my 2nd monitor. It is so bad it is unusable.
When I play back video on with Desktop Preview full screen on my main monitor, the video looks great. I've even plugged the monitors into opposite ports to test and it's definitely not my monitors. The same thing happens on my opposite monitor if it is plugged into the second jack.
I tried playing back the same footage in Quicktime Pro on both monitors. NO ARTIFACTS.
I've also reset PRAM, trashed prefs, etc.
It seems that 10.6 has broken an nVidea video driver and caused a bug in FCP 7 and is causing a terrible refresh line that pokes out in transitions and during bright scenes and contrasty imagery. PLEASE FIX THIS APPLE. I would hate to have to reinstall 10.5 just to use FCP.

I have tried a few things listed here to correct this problem, I think I have figured it out. The steps I took to get rid of the lines that randomly appeared across the screen (desk top) and with in open windows are as follows:
First I ran apple jack on auto mode. You have to start up in single user mode. I did this three times as recommend in another forum that I can't remember the site now.
Second, I freed up some memory. I used appDelete.app and rid my computer of all applications I haven't used or no longer needed.
After the above steps, I reset the PRAM by restarting while holding the option, command, P & R key down, until the start up chime sounded three times.
I did this over a week ago and not only is my system running faster, I haven't had one line appear in any open windows or across the display.
Side note, I recall that the time I started noticing these lines, was shortly after downloading internet explorer, I needed that browser for a job related site that didn't or wouldn't work with Safari or Firefox. After I used that browser for my employer, I never used it again. Shortly after that install, is when I started noticing the lines. I removed that application using appDelete.app and again no lines ever since.
    I hope this helps others.

  • In Finder Prefs, does unchecking "Show these items on the Desktop" mean certain connected drives won't "mount" at all -- or they WILL mount but simply not appear as Desktop icons?

In the Finder Preferences panel, when one unchecks a category of "items" (e.g. "Hard Disks," or "CDs, DVDs and iPods," etc.), does that mean that items of that type will not even "mount" as a connected external drive when they get plugged in to the computer? Or, alternately, DO these external devices "mount," and can be accessed via various menu commands or keyboard shortcuts, but it's just that they won't appear on the Desktop as a "Desktop icon"?
The terminology used in the Prefs panels makes me think that they DO mount, they just don't "appear" as icons. Otherwise, the Prefs panel would say "Mount these items as connected drives when plugged in."
    Right?
If one unchecks a category, and then connects or inserts a device of that category to the Mac, and then unceremoniously unplugs it from the computer, will one get an error message saying (forget the exact words) "Don't disconnect external drives before first Ejecting them!" Or...not?

If iTunes is already running when I plug in the iPod, then I briefly get the "Connected - Eject before disconnecting" message, but then it goes away after a few seconds, and the iPod screen reverts to the normal home screen, which means I can unplug it without ejecting it.
So the three potential statuses are:
    1. Plug in iPod and never launch iTunes = iPod need to be ejected before disconnecting.
    2. First plug in iPod and subsequently launch iTunes = get unwanted "connected" message until the moment that iTunes is running, at which point it disappears.
    3. First launch iTunes and then plug in iPod = iPod briefly gives "connected" message, but then reverts to home page.
So, it seems that having iTunes open in these settings will (after a brief period at most, or immediately) allow me to unplug the iPod without "Ejecting" it first.
However...I don't want to launch iTunes! The whole point is to just be able to plug in and unplug the iPod without having to fiddle with anything on the Mac. My original problem was that I had to "Eject" the iPod in order to unplug it -- but if the only way to solve that problem is to launch iTunes, then all I've done is replace one problem with another.
I don't want to have to launch iTunes or have it running, now or ever. I just want to recharge my iPod.
So, while we certainly have learned a lot so far (and thanks for your patience!), I don't want to end up with a different problem than the one I started with.
So, the amended question is now:
Is there a way I can simply plug in and unplug my iPod to my Mac for the purposes of recharging only, without having to either "Eject" the iPod from the Mac or having to launch iTunes (manually or automatically)?

Bluetooth is neither detected nor working. In the system preferences under BLUETOOTH header it says "No information found". Bluetooth icon is not appearing on desktop either. Please help.

Yes....It happens all the time. I also erased my HD and installed Snow Leopard but with no success. Tried lots of REBOOTING but nothing worked for me.As I have already installed the new OSX I think there is no need to go through the below procedure. What do you suggest?
Before you go through the ritual of reinstalling the entire system just try to do a "factory reset" of your bluetooth environment. To do this you need to run the Bluetooth Explorer which is a utility installed as part of XCode.
    1. Launch Bluetooth Explorer.
    2. Select the "Modify Software & Device Configuration" from the Utilities menu.
    3. Keep the first 4 checkboxes checked (one will say "Full factory reset").
    4. Click "Perform actions" button (lower right of window).
    5. Reboot (possibly the Reboot NOW button will work, if not just do a normal reboot).
Hopefully that will clear your problem(s) so you can re-pair your bluetooth devices.
    Good luck.
