  • Twist - Ubuntu with new BIOS update

Has anyone attempted to install Ubuntu after the most recent bios installation for the Lenovo Twist?  I'm wondering if others are having the same issue that a few are having now, some with an SSD installed and some without.
Here is a link to the question on Ask Ubuntu
    http://askubuntu.com/questions/445309/unable-to-find-a-medium-containing-a-live-file-system-with-ssd
After selecting Install Ubuntu from booting from a USB key it shows the loading Ubuntu screen for about 30 seconds then gives the error initramfs "Unable to find a medium containing a live file system" on a Lenovo Twist laptop.
What is unique about my error is that Ubuntu was installed and running fine on a partition of the my 500 GB Hard Drive. I had an SSD 24GB Cache. I replaced my normal HD with an SSD and installed Windows 8 on it. I then formatted the cache with FAT32 planning on putting Ubuntu on that 24GB. But now I can't boot from the same USB I used before with Linux. My boot order is USB HD, SSD Hard Drive, then Cache.
I have checked the MD5, used multiple tools to make the boot key, made sure I'm booting with AHCI, tried all USB ports, disabled USB 3.0, and tried everything from this bug report:
    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/casper/+bug/1241589
Also when I type "blkid" from the initramfs it does not show my USB key.
So I'm unable to boot from a Linux live USB key after changing my harddrive.
This question is asked before, but this is different than the others because it's unique to a SSD and the "solutions" to others do not work in this case. There are lots of causes of this error where when installing you get a "Unable to find a medium containing a live file system" but none of the solutions work and I believe this is unique to replacing my HD with an SSD.  However someone has reported that they have the same issue without the SSD which makes me wonder if it's a function of the BIOS.

I see this issue also on the latest released BIOS 1.65.  There's a new BIOS (1.66) currently being tested that fixes this problem, but it's not ready for public release yet.  My advice is to stay on the previous working BIOS for now.  zoltanthegypsy reports that 1.62 works OK.  So can this be a short-term solution for you?  Sorry for this trouble.

  • New BIOS update may have cause BlueScreen

I got a notice on my laptop about a BIOS update and another update. After finishing the installations, i was attempting to play Halo, but when i joined a game server, my laptop BlueScreened.
It has never crashed before, and im afraid the bluescreen has something to do with the BIOS update, since thats the only significant change ive made to the computer recently.
Please help! This is a fairly new laptop!

Well so far its ok. Maybe it was just one of those 1 time errors but i dont know. I dont know the model exactly but i know its a Satellite, and the BIOS update was 1.30 of im not mistaken, but im not sure. Its not having problems now so im not going to worry about it.

  • Tecra A9 - What are the changes in the new Bios update

Can someone tell me the changes in the actualy BIOS Update v1.70 and the old ones?
And is there a PDF outside where i can see the detailed description about the Bios functions?
    Thanks
    Greetings

So, until now my question has no answer!
In the US Forum is the Service from Toshiba is much more better ->
    [BIOS details|http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_dtlViewDL.jsp?soid=1978903&moid=1702318&rpn= PTS53U&BV_SessionID=@@@@2130665852.1205800119@@@@& BV_EngineID=cccjadedikgfkdgcgfkceghdgngdgmn.0&ct=D L&all_docs=false]
I also must send my Tecra A9 to the support to change my DVD-Burner (Teac) and it taks 3 Weeks.
I am not very happy with this support at all!
Now Toshiba has released a new Bios Update v2.10 and i didn't now what are the changes.
    Greetings

  • Northbridge temps and the new bios update

I know the Northbridge temperature issue has been posted before. But I’m posting in relations to the new bios update supposed to be released 08/24. Will these temp issues be resolved in this new bios update?
There could be many reasons why the Northbridge temps are so high, ranging from bad heatsink design to Northbridge fan blowing too fast. Mine runs 55C idle which is way too high…but when I go to touch the heatsink, it’s barely warm. A lot of people have been complaining about the “light show” on the Northbridge, but heck I like it. I think it’s pretty cool
One last thing I’d like to bring up, this new bios update, I don’t know whether or not 1.6 supports DDR500mhz Ram (because I don’t have it yet) but will it support it? Reason being is I plan on buying DDR500mhz Ram and do some more overclocking.
1:1 Cpu to Ram ratio here I COME!!! :D

ROFLMAO  (first sign of insanity when you laugh about a such sad matter)
Maesus, its nothing personal, but do you really believe there will be a v1.8 BIOS? To me it looks like MSI has abandoned the 875P. BIOS v1.7 is supposed to come when? ...August 28th? That's 2 months since the last one and as far as I have heard there has not much changed over v1.6. When is v1.8 supposed to come? Another 2 months later? Not to speak of v1.9... That makes about 5 months to get the board working the way it was supposed to do from the first day (if v1.7 solves something at all).
Sorry, but MSI is about to lose all trustworthiness with this so called support. And moderators in a company's forum who are not even employees of that company, and have to take guesses (see Prescott support) about the products, do not help to make the situation much better (again, nothing personal). If the support team would take a look by themselves on a regularly basis (1-2 times a week) perhaps then the problems would be solved much faster. If I would work like this and not care about the customers I would have lost my job long ago.
There are still many problems. The board is on the market for some months now and memory compatibility and timings are still an issue.
I've visited many forums the last week. And I do hear (read) almost the same everywhere: Poeple who bought the 875P board say its high quality and has good features, if it only would work as supposed. MSI miserably fails to give it a working BIOS. Results in polls about "MSI 875P board good or bad" tend to be weighed horribly to "bad". Most of the ppl will never again buy a MSI board because they feel left alone with their problems.
It is clear that ppl who are satisfied do not post that in forums. But when something is wrong, they do, because they want the problems solved. But what are support forums good for when no one is listening to the complaints?
In times who prices are almost the same for the products, ppl tend to buy that product, that not only has the best features but also good support. When it comes to that MSI is not first choice.

  • Qosmio X500 - NEW BIOS update - 1.90

Found a new BIOS update 1.9 on the Australian Toshiba Website. This morning it was showing version 1.40, but now it says version 1.90. I will try it on my X500 when I get home tonight, see if it fixes the Sleep-wake up issue.

  • Requires new BIOS update

Hi, I bought a new network card Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 and I tried to install it into my HP DV6-6171TX however the BIOS state that it is not supported. I tried to look for BIOS update but the latest update they have online is in year 2011 version F.1B. Can I get new BIOS update to that I can get the network card to work?

Ok throught the manual which I went through, I bought an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 which was also stated inside the manual however after I had changed to it and tried to bootup my laptop, the bios still have the same error. I am using the Intel processor, not the Amd one.
You have to use a wireless card under the exact part number (BIOS will reject any other and you get the error). The part number for Intel 6230 belongs to a different Intel wireless card (unfortunate error from HP). I think it's Intel 1030. Dv6-6000 series is the last series with the whitelist still in it. There is an Intel 6230 listed under a part number: 636672-001. Perhaps it will work.
edit: I have found Intel 6205 listed under 631954-001 but it's a pure wireless card, not a combo with bluetooth.

  • W520 and new bios update

I saw lenovo released the new bios update for the W520 and it says they updated the cpu microcode. Does that mean it will accept Ivy Bridge CPU's?
Also what is your thought on W500 laptops in today's world? Are they worth hanging onto for anything or basically obsolete. I have 7 of them with the 1920x1200 resolution screen and 4 gb ram, would they be able to run the newer versions of autocad and catia?

no the W520 doesn't accept Ivy Bridge CPU.
The W500 run AutoCAD and Catia, but would be very slow if you have many parts. So if you are using the W500 for work, then you should consider upgrading.

    thank you for your repley
i am very much in favor of stability ,reliability and performance but the fact remains
that Toshiba Techs have made a conscious  and willfull decision to under clock the laptop and make no
mention that the bios updates may result in processing reduction, as for the call to tech support it was fruitless
because they are clueless as to why such things happen (Corporate Denial).
In Canada there were two very close speced laptops
one for 899.00 CAD with 1.9 GHz CPU
and the one I bought 2 months ago 1149.00 CAD 2.0 GHz
To me this looks like Toshiba overclocking the laptop to get out the retail door.
its not just affecting me, it affects everyone that buys a Toshiba laptop.
I will not back down on this point. The origional advertised and paid for specs, should
be restored in an upcoming bios update. If not, then it just confirms my original
    findings.
This is refered to as "BAIT and SWITCH" and the practice is illegal in Canada.

I'm really disappointed with new 5 update.  No music, No photos, No videos, lost all emails.  Anyone know how to get these all back?  Yes, I have synced and synced and synced.  Help

Hopefully it isn't too late for this but:  before performing an update it is really best if you close all apps (double click the home button, click and hold on one of the apps that appears at the bottom of the phone until the red minus sign appears and then tap the minus sign until all apps are closed) and then turn the phone off by holding the standby button until the slider saying "slide to power off" appears and slide it to turn the phone off.  Then turn the phone back on and hook it up to your computer to sync and perform the upgrade.  This also helps if you do this before performing syncs too.  I had problems with an iPod previously where it would fail to backup before sync most times, but have never had a problem with updates or syncs since I started performing this procedure.  Unfortunately, your pre-update backup may have failed and the data in your apps might be gone, but you could try to restore your phone.  If I remember correctly how to do this, you connect it to your computer and check for updates.  It should say you're up to date, but have an option to restore the phone.  If it does, I'd try that.  It may also have a "restore from backup" option you could try.

  • How to disable Toshiba TEMPRO alerts about new BIOS update

Hi just installed TEMPRO on my W8 Satellite L875 laptop, ant it's saying there's a new bios update available - (1.60-WIN) which is the same version as I've already got.?:|
    Q: how can I make this alert go-away ?
    -Tom

Thanks, but that's not quite what I had in mind ...
I would have expected tempro to examine my system & installed components, and to alert me when a new/updated driver is released. I would then install the new/updated driver, and then tempro should dismiss the alert - or perhaps I'm just not understanding how tempro works ?

  • Satellite A500-149: Would new BIOS update 2.00-win solve illumination issue

    Hi
I need help because i have one toshiba A500-149 but the ilumination of keyboard dont work (FN+Z).
I see a new Bios update and my question is:
This new update 2.00 win solve that problem?
    this upgrate is secure?

In my opinion the BIOS 2.0 update does not solve your problem.
A friend of mine is an A500 owner and the backlight keyboard functions using old BIOS.
I think there must be another reason for your backlight problem.
Did you see this knowledge base article?
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD2603CL0000R01.htm
in some cases you need to press FN + Y due to different keyboard layout.
The FN buttons are controlled by value added package as reported by users above...
Reinstallation of VAP should help you be sure you use the latest VAP recommend using one released for newer series like A660/A665
But if the VAP does not help, and if backlight is enabled in BIOS, then there must be a hardware issue maybe the 2nd keyboard cable is not connected properly to the backlight connector loose connection might cause this
