[games] frozen-bubble
Frozen bubble is a highly addictive game .... http://www.frozen-bubble.org/
One caveat : it is incompatible with SDL_perl 2.X which is in Arch right now (they say that several times on their home page, and I can confirm that :-( ).
Hence, I made sdl_perl119 which provides the version that frozen bubble was coded with. Luckily after some digging, I found that the old version is still availablt on CPAN - no idea for how much longer, though. I hope (expect ?) that frozen bubble will be updated eventually ...
I used quite a bit the "depends", "provides" and "conflicts" fields in the two packages. So beware ! I tested it, but that does not mean, the PKGBUILDS are perfect.
EDIT on Oct 4th : Just to make life easier, here are the two PKGBUILDS :
# Contributor: Andreas Schweitzer <[email protected]>
pkgname=frozen-bubble
pkgver=1.0.0
pkgrel=1
pkgdesc="Award winning, highly addictive game."
depends=('sdl_image' 'sdl_mixer' 'sdl_perl>=1.19<=1.20' 'sdl_gfx')

build() {
cd $startdir/src/$pkgname-$pkgver
make PREFIX=/usr || return 1
make PREFIX=$startdir/pkg/usr install
# Contributor: Andreas Schweitzer <[email protected]>
pkgname=sdl_perl119
pkgver=1.19.2
pkgrel=1
pkgdesc="The OLD version of SDL_perl. SDL Perl is a Perl wrapper for SDL, sporting all the SDL bits you would expect, including fullscreen OpenGL."
depends=('sdl' 'sdl_gfx' 'freetype2' 'libjpeg' 'sdl_ttf' 'sdl_image' 'libpng' 'libogg' 'libvorbis' 'sdl_mixer' 'sdl_net' 'alsa-lib')

rm $startdir/pkg/usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.1/i686-linux/auto/SDL_perl/.packlist
And here they come :
First install sdl_perl119 with this PKGBUILD :
# Contributor: Andreas Schweitzer <[email protected]>
pkgname=sdl_perl119
pkgver=1.19.2
pkgrel=2
pkgdesc="The OLD version of SDL_perl. SDL Perl is a Perl wrapper for SDL, sporting all the SDL bits you would expect, including fullscreen OpenGL."
depends=('sdl' 'sdl_gfx' 'sdl_ttf' 'sdl_image' 'libvorbis' 'sdl_mixer' 'sdl_net' 'alsa-lib')
source=(http://search.cpan.org/CPAN/authors/id/D/DG/DGOEHRIG/SDL_perl-$pkgver.tar.gz)
url="http://sdlperl.org/"
md5sums=('f4d532623cb3feddf7e54aece1de53e6')
provides=('sdl_perl')
conflicts=('sdl_perl')
build() {
cd $startdir/src/SDL_perl-$pkgver
./configure --without-alsa
make || return 1
make DESTDIR=$startdir/pkg install
rm $startdir/pkg/usr/lib/perl5/*/i686-linux/perllocal.pod
rm $startdir/pkg/usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/*/i686-linux/auto/SDL_perl/.packlist
And after perl_sdl119 is installed build frozen_bubble from here :
# Contributor: Andreas Schweitzer <[email protected]>
pkgname=frozen-bubble
pkgver=1.0.0
pkgrel=2
pkgdesc="Award winning, highly addictive game."
depends=('sdl_image' 'sdl_mixer' 'sdl_perl>=1.19<=1.20' 'sdl_gfx')
source=(http://guillaume.cottenceau.free.fr/fb/$pkgname-$pkgver.tar.bz2)
url="http://www.frozen-bubble.org/"
md5sums=('2be5ead2aee72adc3fb643630a774b59')
build() {
cd $startdir/src/$pkgname-$pkgver
make PREFIX=/usr || return 1
make PREFIX=$startdir/pkg/usr DESTDIR=$startdir/pkg install || return 1
rm $startdir/pkg/usr/lib/perl5/*/i686-linux/perllocal.pod
rm $startdir/pkg/usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/*/i686-linux/auto/fb_c_stuff/.packlist
In case it should not work, I'll put tar balls with everything on http://bootblock.de/arch/
Something else, I noticed : that
http://sdl.perl.org/ seems to be now maintaining SDL Perl - and they seem to be considering 1.20.4 to be the latest version ....

Xorg6.8.2 Lbreakout2 and Frozen-bubble don't work
Hi,
The title pretty much says it all... I updated my Xorg to 6.8.2 and lbreakout2 and Frozen-bubble pretty much stopped working.
The window opens, black, and then it's stuck and I have to kill it. The process not the X-server.
Don't know why this is, mybe it's something to do with SDL but it's just a guess....
Also, running Diablo2 under wine now only works in window mode (full screen has graphic glitches) but it's not native linux so who knows...
Other things work fine as far as I can see.

Nvidia is installed and works, but doesn't do 3D
Hello
I have a problem with my Nvidia card. I have the latest driver installed and configured in Xorg, glxgears works (which means it cand do basic 3D, but not any effects or advanced graphics...) and the Nvidia logo shows up at X startup.
But when I try to play a game (for example Enemy Territory gives me error: Sys_Error: GLimp_Init() - could not load OpenGL subsystem) or try to run compiz-fusion, nothing works. Compiz doesn't give me anything - no shadows, no effects, no window decoration. Only 2D games (frozen bubble, wesnoth, gnome games) work.
I also tried to install Xgl, but the wiki says that newer Nvidia cards come with preinstalled Xgl system. (I have a Nvidia m8400gs).
Just for mentioning, everything mentioned (games, compiz) worked under Ubuntu, when I tried 7.10.
So anyone having an idea about my problem, please take the time to show me the solution.

Oh come one, it's not that difficult I've completed the whole game twice.
rafasreds1, what error are you getting? You do not need any dependencies. Just transfer the sis file to your phone, and install it. You will need to disable "Certificate Check" though - go to App. Manager, Settings, and disable it.
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/fb-s60/fb_s60_3rdv0.94_240x320.sisx --> is the correct file. -
I downloaded a trial game called Bubble Shooter. After the trial period I tried to buy it but was unable. Contacted the manufacturer, www.getempower.com which provided no help other than an email offering a Free App if I buy an app. If I sent them purchase confirmation they would send me a registration code for an app of my choice. So I bought a $1. 00 app, sent confirmation, and have heard nothing. Now when I try to pay for the original Bubble Shooter game, app world errors & says the game cannot be paid for. When I go to the getempower site, the game is gone! Any ideas or reason why this would happen?
Greetings! I believe the game you refer to is Enigmo. It's a very good game too!

Why can't an online game I play save the level I have reached?
I like to play an online game called Bubblez on Bigfishgames.com. Sometimes the game seems to save levels OK and at other times I have to sign in again as if I was a new player and start over on level 1. I don't know if it is a cache problem? I have tried a few patches but so far I haven't found a fix. Any help would be appreciated.

that's a good question, on what i dont have a really good answer: there exist quite no documents about devfs (and it is become slowly obsolete with the new comming udev) on the internet (afaik), so you have to learn by looking at the config file and speaking with people that made already some experience with it (there is also no man devfs.conf ... that's an example, how not to document your project :-) ) -

VERY strange lag on a Dell Optiplex 760
I thought it would be a good idea to keep a 16GB flash drive on my keychain that booted Arch so I could work on HW for college in a consistent OS! Everything is working great so far, but I ran into a very strange problem with a Dell Optiplex 760. During the normal Arch init process, everything loads great, except for when it gets to the udev stage where everything hangs. But here's the strange part of this scenario: the problems go away when I start typing random keys or move the mouse! If I don't do this, the system hangs completely from what I can tell. This happens at the console and with X.
The service tag for this machine is FDCQQJ1, and the dell.com driver area brings up this list of hardware and (windows) drivers for it.
Here's the #lspci -vv of the system:

hello!
i have used archlinux for a year or so. everything went quite perfectly, but because archlinux is not multilib (i need it for my 32-bit blitzmax application) i installed gentoo last week. and because gentoo did not get me "that feeling" of arch, i went back and reinstalled arch...completely new. now i have got problems with 32bit-wine. i am using arch64 and never had such a problem. we are discussing that in the german forums without any solutions yet so i hope you could help me. i guess nobody else has this problem (because i did not read of it) so i must be an idiot and do sth. wrong .
ok, first, this issue does not appear when running native 64bit applications, like frozen-bubble iin fullscreen. so i guess it has sth to do with the lib32 packages...dont know. when i am running windows games iin wine (bin32-wine 1.1.17 or bin32-wine-suse 1.1.18 from aur) in fullscreen, wine changes the resolution as it has to be (640x480, 800x600 or whatever), but i can still use my mouse and move it to the right or bottom edge and can so navigate through the whole screen ( so i can see the rest of my gnome desktop for example). because of that my games are unplayable. it happens to morrowind, half-life (the old one, not the source-based) & half-life 2, so it not depends on one game. i tried running wine using xrandr resolution changer (changed in wine config) but the i cannot change the resolution from my native one (1680x1050), also not perfectly, because i want to play my games in 800x600 ^^.
but remember, it did work quite well two weeks ago :-\ (i will never change my distro again, i will never change my distro again... )
here is maybe stuff you will need:

Hello and thanks for reading.
Ive had the lumia for a few days and most of my phones have been Nokias in the past as I prefur the ease of use with them......untill now
I will admit this phone looks and feels very slick, it works very quickly with little lag, simplistic menus and sharp screen...But....
this phone will amaze anyone with the things it CAN do, but also the things it CANT do.
It seems I cannot rename videos or pictures unless I wire it up to the laptop/computer and mess around in Zume (Conzume I will call it) it syncs the phone but I want to upload to youtube as I have a channel on there but this Zume programme wont let me copy and paste to my hard drive. Its a windows phone so why cant it act like windows lol I cant drag and drop to my computer and if I try to upload to utube it wont find zume only other hard drives.
My last phone was the N95 8GB and that will let you do what you like when you connect it with a USB.
I cant Edit videos on the phone either?
I see someone else has mentioned it wont connet by bluetooth to ANYTHING..I mean other slightly older Nokias which I cant believe I tried to send all my old videos and pics from my N95 to the lumia but says its not supported????? Unbelieveable!
Please tell me Nokia will sort this as its a major let down as its so simple.
I know it wants to share everything I do but if I wanted that Id call a Newspaper
Can someone please explain the "cloud" to me as It seems its storing your videos and pics to then pay for when you want to watch them as your using mobile internet all the time?My beefs with this phone include
It's a windows phone, why won't it sync directly with Outlook. Most other smartphones do for heavens sake. I had to spend ages mucking about with 'Outlook connector' & syncing all my stuff to my hotmail account before I could get it onto my phone. Not straight forward & most frustrating.
Why was it that when I updated my phone with the latest firmware to improve the battery life it actually got worse. It wasn't until I did a hard reset that the battery improved. Fine except I had to set the phone up from scratch again. Not impressed & if I have to hard reset the phone every time there's a software update I won't be getting another Nokia. (I was saving up to get a 900 when it comes out).
It's now dead. As of two days ago it won't switch on. I've thrown everything at it without any joy & the Nokia Care Centre have now sent it back to Nokia.
I paid out money for a game I'd previously had for free on my Android phone (Frozen Bubble). Only thing is, when I got to play it I realised that it was a mere shadow of the game I'd played on my old HTC Desire. The graphics were poo by comparison & the physics of the game were poorer too. What's going on? Not the fault of the Lumia I know but it all adds to my current dissatisfaction with the Windows Phone/Lumia experience.
Why does everything have to be done through Zune. I'd love to be able to just transfer stuff across to & from the phone with windows. It's an unnecessary restriction.
There have been many other niggles with this phone since I got it & a lot of them I can not currently remember, but the overall feeling is one of restriction. It seems it's their way or the highway. I'd always avoided going for an Iphone due to the lack of freedoms of that system, but it looks like I've inadvertently ended up with something very similar.
On a final note I'd like to say this is one of the finest, if not THE finest looking phone on the market today. I've wanted one ever since I saw it's initial incarnation as the N9. In fact I think I'd have been happier with an N9 if only they'd had the balls to distribute it in this country. However, when the Lumia IS working it's as smooth as silk & a joy to behold. I'm hoping that when I get it back, a lot of these woes will be behind me & I can get back to my initial love affair with it. If Nokia and Microsoft can iron out the problems then this phone & the forthcoming 900 will put them back on the map. My fear is that if they don't get a grip soon, it could be too late.
