Games on 15" MBP Retina 2.4 Ghz Quad-Core

Hello!
I jus wanted to know how well does Minecraft and Starcraft II run on the MBP Retina 15" 2.4 Ghz Quad-Core.
Thank You!

The MacBook Pro with Retina display is the best portable Mac you can use for games because of its processor, the memory (8 GB by default) and its graphic cards (one integrated card for home tasks and a dedicated NVIDIA graphic for games and heavy tasks). If you really want a Mac to play games, get this 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display. However, remember to choose a smaller resolution when you want to play a game, because the game probably won't work properly with a 2880x1800 resolution (choose, for example, 1440x900).
On the other hand, you can find PCs that may run better with games at a smaller cost than the MacBook Pro with Retina display, but I think that OS X makes the MacBook Pro an attractive computer instead of a PC with Windows

It's beta open source software so I'm not surprised. It does't look to be too active a project, so I don't know if it will help or not but you might be maybe better off posting a bug report on their Sourceforge page here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/kompozer/

  • I have a Mac Pro Intel Xeon 3.2 Ghz Quad core (mid 2012) using OSX 10.7.5) and cannot get iDVD to run.

I have a Mac Pro Intel Xeon 3.2 Ghz Quad core (mid 2012) using OSX 10.7.5) and cannot get iDVD to run. I tried 7.0.4 and 7.1.2, both from Apple software update and both crash during "loading themes". I am reluctant to upgrade OSX from 10.7.5 because I do not want to loose Final Cut Express 4.0.1. Apple Care no longer supports iDVD. I want a version if iDVD that supports Chapter markers as in iDVD 7.?.? that i used with my old (now deceased) Apple Power PC Mac Pro.

iDVD 7 should work fine with 10.7.5.  Try this basic troubleshooting fix:
1 - delete the IDVD preference file, com.apple.iDVD.plist, that resides in your
    User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete IDVD'S cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
    User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iDVD folder.
3 - launch IDVD and try again.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • Running new 10.8.2 on my pro 2x3 Ghz Quad core with 32 GB DDR2. everything seem to slow and frezze up some time

I had fresh installed 10.8.2 on eight core with 32 GB of Ram. Everything seem to slow and frezze up sometime.  but running OSX 10.6.8 is fine. Can anyone help
    System Spec:
    Mac OSX 10.8.2
Pro: 2x3 Ghz Quad-core Intel Xeon
    Memory: 32 GB 667 MHz DDR2
Hard drive Raid 1-0: 500 GB

I am certainly confused. 10.8.2 is not supported on pre-2008's. There was an 8-core 2008 that has 800MHz DDR2 FBDIMMs (and can accept 667MHz as well).
A clean install is the safest and best way, you can migrate or let Setup Assistant import your settings.
Old PowerPC apps, drivers and plugins are a no-no, no Rosetta. Check Roaringapps.com
Put your system on an SSD.
Put your data on a non-array or if you must use a mirror only. Stripe is fine. Both should have 2-3 backups and extra redundancy instead of trying software based 1+0 with four drives.
Upgrade to new(er) drives. And format them with ML. Build or rebuild the arrays in ML.
Where is SL located compared to ML? same drive with different partition? or different disk drives?
10.8.5 is current and other than support for 3TB drives, you should not be using anything less than 10.8.3.

  • Mac Pro 3.2 GHZ Quad-Core Intel Xeon Running Slow

    Hi everyone!
I'm a professional photographer and could use some advise, and thanks for your help in advance!
I have a Mac Pro 3.2 GHZ Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 8 gigs of 1066 MHz DDR3 of memory, running on OS 10.9.5, and my main drive for applications is 1TB and has about 420 GB free. I have various other hard drives for storage.
I use Chrome, Lightroom 4, Photoshop CC2014, Blogstomp, Spotify or iTunes, and I have Backblaze Backup running continuously.
When I first got my computer I didn't have any problems, but over the past few months it's been running super slow. I know that LR4 has issues, but I want to make sure that there isn't anything else I need to look into before getting more memory. I mean even Chrome opening up has the beachball.
    Thanks!

My guess is this is a 5,1 2010-2012. You could use a GTX 680 or later, it has good PCIe (the 2009 is somewhat weaker and crippled by sharing slots 3&4)
A Samsung XP941 512 $525 delivers 1100MB/sec reads and 900MB/sec writes to supercharge your system - one of the best and few such, similar to the same SSD blade used in the nMP 6,1. Lightroom and CS love to be able to load and write scratch, graphic libraries. Bootable. You could use a smaller 256GB $275 for system in slot #3 and one for data and scratch in slot #4 if you wanted to go full out.
You said it was fine originally so maybe something you installed, or an upgrade to the OS or something else that Etrecheck should help show.

Pro Tools is curretnly not compatible with Maverick.   Also, I believe that Pro Tools 10 only allows 4GB ram to be utilized (not sure )
I know Pro Tools 11 allows more, but not sure how much more.  Also not sure if the upgrade to Pro Tools 11 I will have to purchase all new plug ins or if my existing ones will continue to work in it.
The platform changes from 32 bit to 64 with the upgrade to 11
If it is as simple as adding more ram, what mode-part #l would you recomeend.  Can the processor be upgraded also ?
The new tube like Macs are non compatible with UAD Cards.  Those cards a must my sessions

You can use Activity Monitor to check if apps run as 32 or 64 bit - simply look at the "Kind" column (you may need to select it under View -> Columns) and see if the app in question is listed as "Intel" i.e. 32 bit or as "Intel (64 bit)".
While in Activity Monitor you can also check if Pro Tools is close to the 3-4 GB limit of a 32 bit app - if you aren't you will probably not benefit from more RAM.
Your MacPro (it appears to be a Early 2009 model) should have come with a small booklet showing how to install RAM and what kind of RAM that you need. Any RAM that fulfills the requirements should work but your safest choice is probably to buy from a retailer/online store that supports Macs as they will usually know what kind of RAM you need for your mac model.
Upgrading the CPUs should be possible, but I haven't seen Apple document how to do this, so you will probably have to google around a bit to find instructions and CPU part numbers.
Your choice of CPUs will also be limited by the motherboard and CPU socket so you may be limited to faster version of your current CPU chip and some slightly newer versions.
Going from your current CPU to the fastest version included in the 2009 MacPros would be going from 2.26 GHz to 2.93 GHz. This would only give a modest 30% speed boost. Using newer and highly clocked CPUs might boost this somewhat more maybe to 50% ?

  • Premiere does not play well on MacPro 2x2.8 Ghz Quad Core and 10.10.1

We've been having problems with Premiere Pro CC v8.1 Caravan on our MacPro 2x2.8 Ghz Quad Core running 10.10.1. We get hard crashes, etc. Disk Warrior finds two Adobe related rsrc files damaged:
    File: "Localized.rsrc"
Detected that the resource header is damaged and cannot be repaired
    Location: "Macintosh HD/Applications/Utilities/Adobe Creative Cloud/Utils/AdobeAAMDetect.plugin/Contents/ Resources/English.lproj/"
    File: "Localized.rsrc"
Detected that the resource header is damaged and cannot be repaired
    Location: "Macintosh HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/AdobeAAMDetect.plugin/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/"
Might these be related to the hard crashes? Should we delete them, and if so, how should we delete them? What else should we try?
    Many thanks

Well, I switched to Chrome and never looked back!

  • Is it ok to leave my old photos in Aperature and start with new photos in Lightroom?  MacPro with 2 x 2.26 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor, 6 GB memory, 1 TB harddrive.

Is it ok to leave my old photos in Aperature and start with new photos in Lightroom?  MacPro with 2 x 2.26 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor, 6 GB memory, 1 TB harddrive?
Or should I transfer them to Lightroom?

That's really a personal preference. Support for Aperture is coming to an
end and you may find yourself unable to get to theses photos in the future
in the case of a HDD crash if you can't get the software to reinstall.
Faced with that prospect, I would probably put it on my list of things to
do when I am feeling really bored and looking for something to amuse myself
with. You can export your Aperture photos in their original format to a
folder on your desktop and then import them into Lightroom. Use the copy
option on the import to save the photos in a new folder within your
    Lightroom catalog.

Specifically, you must have the following to update to Mountain Lion:
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)

  • Which OS for Mac Pro (3,1) 2 x 3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon?

    I purchased my Mac Pro 3,1 2 x 3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon  with 10.5 (Leopard)-

I do know that sometimes it's better for older configurations to stay with "older" OS platforms....???

Is there not a full 10.7 OS Disc?
There is no official DVD at all, but there is a thumb drive with both 106 and 10.7 on it for US$70.
On an older Mac, about 2010 or older, you need access to one of:
    • The Mac App Store ( such as on a Mac with a working 10.6.8 or better)
    • working Recovery HD
    • a bootable 10.7 Installer, on thumb drive, Hard drive, or DVD
So for ONE 2010 or older Mac with a bad drive, you would have to buy the US$70 Apple thumb drive, or have previously made a DVD or Hard Drive when you previously downloaded 10.7. Or you re-install 10.6.8 then overwrite it with the downloaded 10.7.
    • another Mac with 10.7 installed so you could transfer Recovery HD to the down Mac with "Lion Recovery Disk Assistant"
OS X Lion: About Lion Recovery Disk Assistant
On some 2010 and most 2011 models, if Recovery HD is messed up or not Installed, but you have a working Broadband connection [with DHCP enabled], the Firmware has been upgraded so it will boot from the Internet and do the whole job using "Lion Internet Recovery" as described in the second section of this glossy article:
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/recovery/
If no DHCP is available [no Router upstream, either yours or your ISP's], it may not work.

  • Upgrading RAM for an iMAC  Intel Core i5 2.8 GHz Quad Core - Late 2012 (I'm guessing).

I have an iMAC Intel Core i5 2.8 GHz Quad Core - Late 2012 (I'm guessing).  I am trying to upgrade the RAM of my iMAC and I am not sure how to go about it. Running on OSx 10.6.3
This iMac has 4 slots - Currently my RAM is using 2 slots with 4 GB so I have 8 GB right now.
The speed is 1333MHz. Now I have some RAM that could get to 32GB but the 4 RAM chips speed is
    1866 MHz.
Would it be possible to swap my old RAM (8GB) 1333MHz for the new 1866mhz RAM? even with the difference in speed?  The RAM is from Crucial.
If possible I can try and swap the RAM if I get inside my iMAC.

If you are really running 10.6.3, then you do not have a 2012 machine. Please check to see if this is yours (it's a 2010):
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/specs/imac-core-i5-2.8-27-inch-alumin um-mid-2010-specs.html
It also mentions the exact specs of the RAM. I would only use the RAM supported by Apple; using the higher speed rated RAM will not result in higher speed.

I have a new to me 2 x 3.2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon machine and I can not get my mouse speed to the speed I am used to using the preference setting FAST. any ideas. Also I have my Wacom pad on it and can get no speed out of it much either, mouse or pen?
Both mouse and pen used to whizz along on my G3 and 4?
I downloaded mouse zoom yet that seemed to load and just made no diffence?
    Stumped!
Using Tiger 10.7.3 downloaded Intuos 9 X12 drivers as old ones would not cut it 'They' say it works with Tiger!

Ta for the reply. All clean installed when it left Apple store.
Sorry for my ignorance here, yet I did not understand how this applied:
No Intel Mac Pro worked wtih anything less than 10.4.7.
And had to be OEM, there was no retail 10.4.x for Intel.
    Better off with 10.5.8.  ?
Seem to have sorted it now. Darned if I can rember how in my fiddling!
    the mouse now whizzes along!

  • Difference between 3,1 and 3,4 GHz Quad-Core  i7

    Hi
Does anybody know if there is a difference between iMAC 3,1 and 3,4 GHz Quad-Core  i7 regarding the sound level of the computer/the fan?
    Thanks R

When I listened to the stock 27" 2011 iMac at an Apple Store, it was dead quiet -- at least so far as I could tell in that environment, which is not exactly the quietest.
I now own a BTO 27" with the 3.4 GHz i7 -- along with both the Apple SSD and a 2 TB internal HD, 16 GB RAM, and the 2GB graphics controller.
With this configuration, in a totally quiet home office, if I listed I can often hear a low-level "whoosh" from the fans. Most of the time, thought, I'm not even aware of that fan sound.
I do sometimes hear the internal HD.
All the iMac's own sounds are insignificant when compared to the spin noise of an external LaCie HD.

  • My 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon turns itself off and on by itself

my 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon turns itself off and on by itself

Always makes it easier and shorter thread life to start wtih a basic list of parts: RAM, GPU which can vary a lot and be important, other upgrades or changes or such.
Whether you have done SMC Reset, Safe Boot, Clean install. Even disconnecting external devices.
And whether you have 10.6.8 or not, likely not.
    3rd party tasks
Best is to start wtih a base clean system and only install the minimum necessary latest versions and test as you go.
Setup an emergency boot drive in addition to the OS Recovery partition to perform repairs and more. Especially if you are now using an SSD.
When it started. What you did or what  happened before and how long it has been this way.
Not a cure but having a UPS helps and helps to avoid sudden power loss or changes or from storms.
2008's ahve become notorious for these kinds of issues. They shipped with wake from sleep restart bug that was addressed with a pair of firmware updates to EFI and SMC but have not I would venture to say been 100% successful.

  • Video card to run 30 inch display for G5 2.5 GHz quad core

I want to purchase the 30 inch HD display for my G5 Quad core 2.5 GHZ machine. Apple states that it needs the nVidia GeForce 6800 card to run. I have the GeForce 6600. Will the 30 inch display run at a lower resolution with this card? If not, could someone recommend a PCI-E card that will? I did find a 6800 GeForce Ultra at Macsales.com but they state it will not run on the quad G5.
Thank you for your time and consideration

Your existing card has two DVI ports. One is single-link and can only run up to a 23". The other is dual-link, and can run a 30" at full resolution.
