Games on computer

Hello,
I have given up on being able to run any of the games I have purchased in the past.  Even though VISTA says it can run older games, I have found that that just does not happen.
So I started playing the 'free' games that were already on the comuter.  I then found out that you can only play them so many times until you get told to either purchase the game from Wildtangent or subscribe to Wildtangent.
So I tried to send a compliant to HP about this, the bogus free games. 
The email response I got was to call 1.800.888.0292, which is for small business purchases.  Now what does that have to do with games.  So I called, and the person I spoke to did not know why I was given that number, so he gave me another number.  800.282.6672, that person did not know what I was speaking about, so she transferred me to - wait for it - the first number I called. Even after I told her that was the first number I called and they were the wrong department she still transferred me there.
It has become sadly apparent that HP has some lousy customer service.  They do not understand what is being said, they do not know who to transfer you to.
And why do they say games are free only to give you a limit as to how many times you can play?

JoAnn, welcome to the forum.
I am sorry to hear about your poblems with your games.  Games provided by WildTangent are considered Trial versions.  This the reason for the need to purchase them after trying them for awhile.  There are other games in Vista that you can play.
Have tried using Compatibility Mode in Vista to play older games that you bought?  Here is a guide to help you:

  • M60: I load a game then computer crash

    My satellite has problems with the graphics drivers. Everytime I load a game the computer will crash (blue screen and everything). The ati drivers provided on the official ati site are not compatible with my computer, the only display drivers I can find are those on the toshiba website which are really out of date. I have already tried:
    reinstalling the drivers
    rolling back the driver
    Please advice

    Hi Erik,
    This is a very common problem with notebooks which use an integrated graphics chip. Typically some of the features of the original graphics card are removed from the integrated version in order to prevent over-heating in the notebook. This is why the genuine drivers cannot be installed and you have to use the Toshiba provided drivers instead these are specially written to not use the missing features.
    Unfortunately, many games (especially the newer ones) try to use the missing features and will cause the notebook to crash or the game to run incorrectly.
    Sadly there is not much that can be done to correct this problem. You can try some of the Omega drivers to see if this improves the situation but there is no guarantee that they will work any better than the Toshiba ones.

    is there a way to transfer games from computer to computer. & also drag a game onto an ipod. for instance, i bought chinese checkers & cake mania on my friends but i have scrabble and monopoly on the one im on now, but if i try to put scrabble on my ipod with cake mania my only option is to sync which will then remove all existing games. HELP!!!

    With the iPod selected, choose Transfer Purchases from the File menu and then sync the iPod.

  • Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Fatal1ty - Computer randomly freezes accompanied by a single be

    I just bought my X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Fatalty Pro Series and my computer randomly freezes for up to 0 seconds and I hear a single beep from my internal computer speaker after which my system goes back to normal for about 5 to 0 minutes and then it repeats the same process. I have upgraded all my drivers for my motherboard, including flashing my bios to an updated version, and I ran the creative software auto update from the website and updated the drivers and software and I'm still having the same issue.   • Games freeze computer

    I have a mini that a previous owner upgraded to an Intel core 2. I have snow leopard on it. Since none of the games pre Intel will work on this computer I've been trying to DL some new games. Games really relax me and allow me to think. Just about every game I've tried will freeze the puter, sometimes right away, sometimes after a bit. All I can do is shut down and restart because all I get is a black screen or a white screen, or sometimes a black that then turns white.

    What that means is there is some process running in the background.
    Check your resource monitor to see what is happening when you are seeing this.
    You can also hit the cntrl + alt + del keys to launch the task manager and look at the processes tab to see what is going on.
    Some process is eating up a lot of your memory causing that lag.

  • 5200 T128. my computer freezes when i try to run games

    OK.. the thing is:  i just bought a Geforce FX 5200 T128, with 128 MB DDR (the one without a cooling fan), and when i try to run my DirectX 9 games (GTA: Vice city, NFS: Underground, Hitman: Contracts) my computer locks up in the game's loading screen. These lock-ups occur also, when i set the anisotropic filtering at values higher than 2x, and/or when i turn the V-sync on, but only when i start a game..
       ALSO...... the same lock-up occurs when i try to RENAME A FILE ------- the cursor is still blinking, but EVERYTHING else freezes.
          So? whats up guys.... last time i checked the FX 5200 had support for DX9, didn't it?
          Well, i can't tell exactly if the problem is common to all DX9 games, because i didn't tryed many of them... but the games listed above, all require DX9. Furter more, those games ran on my older Geforce2 MX400, witch doesn't have support for DX9. All my other non DX9 games work fine (well not to the max, because i still have a mainboard witch supports only AGP 4x). If i change my mainboard to one with AGP 8x will the problem be solved?
         Also, the videocard, out of my opinion, gets  too hot after i play a game, but i don't think this should be the problem, because when i try to start those games, my computer still locks up, even though i just started it, and the videocard didn't have time to overheat.
          The problem occurs with both the driver from the CD that came with the card, and the new Forceware 56.72. I haven't tryed oder drivers. The videocard is not overclocked, and the frequencies are on the standard 200 Mhz (GPU), and 400 Mhz (RAM)
          So, can you help me out here.. give me some suggestions? I have written here all the information i beleive are relevant to the problem. My processor is a 1200 Mhz AMD Duron, and 256 MB SDRAM

    Have you tried changing the AGP voltage in your bios to 1.6V?  Got the same problem before when running 3D games.  My system doesn't lock up but it gives me weird display (lot of greens).  It was solved when I increased my AGP voltage setting from 1.5V to 1.6V.  You may want to post your power supply specs too because the FX cards are really power hungry.

  • Upgraded Computer Routinely Crashes when playing Video games

    I had an "HP Pavilion HPE-150f Desktop PC" for a few years, but about a year and a half ago, I upgraded the graphics card and the power supply. My new power supply was a Corsair TX 650, and my new graphics card was an
    ATI Radeon HD6970 Sapphire. Everything went fine until about a month ago (so I had about a year of smooth sailing with this setup). 
    Usually after 5-10 mins of playing any video game, my computer starts getting hic-hupc (visual and audio lag, as well as input lag), and crashes soon after.
    This problem tends to happen most when playing video games, but it also happens at random times when I am not doing anything demanding on my computer.
    I get short bits of lag (visual, and sound lag). It starts up at distanced intrevals, but slowly gets more frequent. Eventually, the computer either freezes, or I get a blue screen.
    I have cleaned up the dust in my computer numerous times. It didn't really help.
    I have updated drivers after doing a full system restore on my computer (along with updating other windows related things), that did not help either.
    I thought getting the drivers updated had solved my problem, but when I was playing a video game today I ran into the same issue. Which video game it is is not really a detail, since this happens with almost all games.
    I had originally thought this was related to CPU temperatures, but I installed a program that monitors that and everything was within the 40-50 degree range. I'm told this is normal from my friends who get higher temperatures and yet do not run into this problem. 
    I'm on windows 7.
    I will provide more info if needed. This problem has been ongoing for a few months now.
    TL;DR:
    Computer randomly starts lagging-up/freezing. I sometimes get a blue screen and I sometimes don't (meaning I have to restart the machine myself). 
    Problem happens more often when I am gaming, but it can also happen randomly at any given time.

    7. i) The computer did come with the OS (win7 64bit), but it wasn't updated. To update it, I went to the search bar in the START menu and typed something along the lines of "Windows update", which took me to a seperate window, where I could let the computer update itself.
       ii) The original product did not have the Power Supply it currently has, or The graphics card it currently has. I bought those two myself to modify the machine.
    The original product was a "HP Pavilion HPE-150f Desktop PC". I believe that is the name for it. The System tab in control panel simply says "HPE-150f"
    8. Monitor resolution 1920x1080, connected by DVI connector.

  • After (or while) running firefox one certain game locks up computer

    This occurs with only one specific game. I can play the game after I boot up the computer. If I have run Firefox (or am still running it) then try to sart this game the computer completely locks up and I have to turn the power off to restart the system.

    It is 4 hand partnership hand and foot from sac-irca. I solved the problem by checking compatability mode. Now ot works!

    When Ever I try to play Halo Or ut2004 and lot of my other games my computer locks up and soung repeats it self i cant Ctrl Alt Del or nothing i have to press the reset button

    well i got to play with my new system for about 2 weeks but now we had a power outage and while comp was on and now i can turn it on or any thing any i deas on what the heck to do cause frankly i about to salvage what i got and go intel cause i pretty anoyyed with the whole psu  thing any way Aspire sucky teck support is trying to tell me that all psus do this when the power goes out i said " thats funny cause i have four of these gaming rigs for my gaming center and only one did it "  any clues any one?

    As eww said, that computer isn't specifically made for gaming. To get advanced graphics in a game, your computer needs what is called a "discrete" graphics processor, or GPU. This means a seperate chip that processes graphics. In Apple laptops, these are only found in the 15" and 17" MacBook Pro. It is not common to find these in laptops in general that are not expensive and high-end. What you have in yours is an "on-board" or "integrated" GPU. This means that graphics processing is done by a small portion of your main processor (the Intel i5 board). This takes away a portion of primary prossessing and dedicates it to graphics. This works perfectly find in most scenarios, but video rendering, gaming, and 3-D graphics tend to suffer. Most high-end, modern games require discrete GPUs to run at full quality these days.
    As far as running Windows 7 and Mac OS both, yes you absolutely can. If you install Windows 7 via Bootcamp (this would require you to have a Windows 7 CD), when you turn on your computer it will default to opening up in Mac OS. But if you hold down the Option key (bottom of the keyboard next to the Command button) while the computer is booting up, it will ask you if you want to open Windows or Mac OS.

  • System Hangs When Playing Games

    Hello, I just built a K7T Turbo2 based system a week ago with Windows XP Prof. installed. I have no problem running your ordinary programs, like office, music, internet for any period of time. However, when I play games, my computer will randomly crash.
    Games such as Shogun: Total War, Counter-strike, Tribes2, Quake3 work for a few minutes, then will crash. I never had a problem with an older computer running the same games.
    All the drivers are updated (nvidia 30.82). I tried games w/o Windows update, then again w/ Windows Update. I tried using the safest clock settings for my video card. But none of that prevents the crashes.
    I dont kno where the problem lies. Any help would be appreciated!

    one thing you forgot to mention was your psu, please check your psu versus those on the stikies (all those numbers on the back with voltage and such, not just "400watt" type stuff) that's my best guess, and you did do a clean install of your os right? I used to format and reinstall windows so much that I forgot I did it and found problems that were never there until I redid all of my settings!

    - stressing the GPU doing intensive 3D effects in Adobe After Effects, no crash
    - stressing GPU using CINEBENCH, no crash
    - monitoring temp with Temperature Monitor, Last crash GPU was at around 80 and CPU at around 85

    - Machine is still under 1 yr warranty
    - I'm overseas studying design and I really cant afford to to take it in and not have a machine for 2 weeks. I'd really like to exhaust all options before taking it in. I'm also worrying that they will run the hardware test as I did and tell me: no problems found.

    I'm so ****** off that it's been weeks and no solution has been provided for this.  In the middle of video editing, watching quicktime videos, youtube, or playing any games the computer hard freezes with a black screen and looping audio of about 1/2 second.
    FIX IT!

    I tried re-installing viedo card and direct X.
    I also tried to search for virus with Quick Heal but no virus was found.
    I was also able to play this game before.
    This problem started when I installed Company of Heroes game.
    Now I can't play any games.

    Hello pleurisy,
    Your system is getting an error when trying to play a game.
    This might be caused by the system getting too hot.
    Do a hard reset.
    Turn the computer off.
    Remove the power cable and the battery.
    Hold down the power button for 15 sec while booth power sources are removed.
    This should reset the hardware in the computer.
    As you turn it back on tap the F10 key. This will load BIOS setup utility.
    Press F9 to load defaults.
    Press F10 to save and exit.
    When the computer boots back up, check to see if everything is working.
    If your still getting the error, go to HP.com and update the BIOS.
    Here is a link to the update.
    Also make sure that the system does not have a buildup of dust inside the system.
    Take the side panel off and clean the inside of the computer with compressed air.
