Games on Intel processers

somone told me that i cant play my games like
Unreal Tournament 2k4
Warcraft III
Halo
n others...
non universal or somthin...?
is this true?
(can i not play games on my intel comp, that i would on my old G4?)

ill be back, and expect an answer
LOL!
By the way. Just wait until URT 2007 comes out in a Universal binary! Then you will be set!
I have four games that I want to save from my G4 and I'm also interested how "fast" it will be on Rosetta.

Has anyone tried this new game by Intel?

It took me 30 mins - which I think is pretty good!
The game is promoting their Intel Active Management Technology - anyone know much about this??

Wow , you are dreaming my dear.
Such titles have better chance to appear in an another reality.

  • Playing Old Games On Intel Mac

Hi I Was Wandering How To Play Old Mac Games Eg: Marathon As I Get The Error "You Cannot Open The Application Because Its Not Supported On This System".
Is There A Emulator Or Something Ive Tryed On My Old G3 (Running OS X 10.3.9 And OS 9.2.2) And Get The Same Thing.
Note: The Mac Im Trying To Run It On Is The New iMac Intel

It should work on the G3 if you have "Classic" instaled.

  • Rise of Nations game on Intel iMac not working ?

I have a 20" iMac Intel 2ghz Ram and the upgraded graphics memory (256mb) and I tried installing Rise of Nations but it doenst work, It installs okay and even goes through the intro movie but then it just hangs on the main title screen. Has anyone with an intel Mac got it working ?
It would be a shame that I couldnt get it to work when its not that old a game.

Has nobody got Rise of Nations ? surely someone has at least tried installing it ? I'm just hoping that its a rosetta thing and maybe a fix comes out for it to work ?

  • Windows games on intel macs

will windows games now be able to play on intel macs?

No. It isn't the processor that dictates whether software may be used, but rather the operating system. Only Mac software will run on the new iMac, either as universal application, or under Rosetta (by emulation). The only way to run a Windows-based game would be using Microsoft Virtual PC (which to my knowledge will not run under Rosetta), or, if someone was able to find a way to load and run the Windows OS on a new iMac.

  • PC GAMES ON INTEL MACS???  Is it possible?

Is it possible to play PC games on an intel mac yet? In theory it should work since you can run it as a PC. I want to play that Battlefield 2142 game very badly.
Please tell if you know it's possible. Thanks.
    Imac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

If you're going to run a PC Game on a Mac, first I'd advise you to find out if the game is compatible with Mac, some great games like Warcraft 3 and the whole Blizzard game library since Starcraft offer an OS X installer that you can download from Battle.net, other large publishers have begun doing this as well, Domm 3, Half-Life 2, Call Of Duty 2, all run on Mac. However, there a some games that will most likely miss Mac, EA for example has never done a game for Mac, their latest C&C Generals was ported some 2 years after it's release for windows, also C&C 3 Tiberium Wars will be PC-only. Go here for more info http://www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp/ to find out what it is, and then here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303572 for instructions on how to install it.

  • Pc games on intel imac 1.83 ghz

Oh please help I'm so confused. We're all mac, have been for twenty years, but my son wants to play some pc games and I'm giving in. I know this is supposed to be possible. This is what I think I know so far. I can buy parallels. I then have to buy windows. I may need more memory? He has 1 GB but of course has a ton of mac games on there already. What I'm afraid of is the processing speed, will it be fast enough? and the graphics, is it powerful enough? I know absolutely nothing about PCs and hope to not have to buy one. Please tell me in really simple terms exactly what to do and if it will work well. I did start to look into refurbished (hoping for cheap) PCs but got overwhelmed immediately. I've been blissfully unaware of just how easy being a mac owner is. His birthday is coming up soon, any advice you can give me, soon, will be greatly appreciated!

Ah. To run the games on his it looks like about 300 for windows plus 150. for memory. Boot Camp is free, so under 500.
To buy the refurbished iMac 2.0 is 850.
But of course I could take his year-old one and be pretty happy for a long time (I don't do much more than email, internet, and photos).
I think it's going to be more of a parenting kind of question. How much do we want to encourage the gaming? He already does a lot, there are plenty of mac games out there. The difference, the reason I'm trying to make it work, is that there are pc games that can be modified and that's something he's really into. I kind of like the idea of him being able to mod and create. He spent some time at a computer camp this summer at MIT doing just modding. Seems a shame he can't keep it up.
Then, speaking of the camp, is the question of 3D programs. He loved the 3D classes. I've looked into 3D programs for mac and the one to go with seems to be Lightwave. Their version for the newer intel macs is still in beta, hopefully it will be out for Christmas. I've been told he may need more processing speed for that, too.
So, now I think I've hit you with the whole deal. What do you think?

  • PPC games on Intel

I have a few games for my powerbook that I still love to play - Ghost Recon and Medal of Honor if that's relevant. What's the performance going to be like if they run under Rosetta? Can anyone give me an idea.

Ultimately, if any game has a PowerPC G3 listed in it's system requirements (which MoH does) then the MBP will do just fine.
Not necessarily. While I don't trust Macrumors for anything else (because they engage in a lot of speculation of future products which is not good by terms of use on this board) they have a good guide on what's compatible with Rosetta and what's not as far as games:
    http://guides.macrumors.com/UniversalBinaryGames
Some games because of their driver specific requirements will not run on Intel Macs in Rosetta.

  • Playing PPC-based game on Intel

i thought rosetta would take care of this on it's own.
i'm trying to play the game Doom II on my macbook, but it won't work. the CD shows up on the desktop, but when i click on either the 'play game from CD' or 'installer' it says that 'You cannot open the application "DOOM II" because it is not supported on this system."
now, this game worked just fine on my powerbook pismo G3 that had OSX 10.1.3, so i have no idea why Rosetta isn't taking over and allowing it to boot.
when i 'get info' on the CD or installer, it doen't give me any kind of option as to how it should be opened.....
    any help would be great,
    thanks

If in you in fact mean Doom II, and not Doom III, then it won't run on the system because Doom 2 is classic game, meaning it requires OS 9 to run. This is not supported on any of the intel macs. A quick search revealed that there is a program called Doom Legacy that supposedly will allow you to play Doom and Doom II in OS X, although since it was someone's pet project, the stability of it can't be guarenteed. You can find Doom Legacy at the link below and try it out if you want, but I've never used it, so I know nothing about it.

  • Non native games on intel iMac 17"?

    Hi,
I'm awaiting delivery of a 17" intel iMac with 1gb of ram. I have a number of games that i believe don't have patdhes to run on the intel machines and wondered if anyone knows how they run> Here's the list:
    CALL OF DUTY
    HALO
    FORD RACING 2
    MEDAL OF HONOUR
    THE INCREDIBLES
    ALIENS VERSUS PREDATOR 2
    RAINBOW 6
I also have unreal o4, doom3 and quake 4 but i believe these have patches. Also, how bad is the hit for Photoshop under Rossetta?
    Cheers.

    Hi,
here is a link with info on the performance of games running under Rosetta:
    http://guides.macrumors.com/UniversalBinaryGames
As for Photoshop. Haven't got first hand experience, but Photoshop Elements is slow but useable with 1GB

  • Games on Intel mini

How good run games on a Core Duo mini? Doom 3 or Quake 4 are unplayable I think, but what's with games like Sims 2, Tiger Woods Golf, World of Warcraft or X-Plane?

There was no small amount of discussion about the games playing capabilities of the various PPC minis, and while there's reason to expect that they should have been better in some ways due to the dedicated video card and VRAM, I think the problem is that the ATI 9200 video chipset and 32Mb dedicated VRAM on the G4 models is really not sufficient for gaming - at least not serious gaming. The 'on-board' integrated video of the Intel models is actually rather more advanced, and utilizes more memory even if it does grab than from the system as a whole rather than have it dedicated.

  • PPC games on intel imac...

Just a quick question. im looking at buying Halo for mac but im worried it may not work well because it would have been designed for PPC chips & i have an intel mac.
i know rosetta runs while PPC apps are being used so im thinking this will slow the game/computer down too much.
    any thoughts?
    thanks

    Hi DJstylus,
I'm not a Halo player, but I gather from http://www.joystiq.com/2006/08/26/Mac-Halo-now-with-Universal-Binary/ that Halo is now available as "Universal Binary", so no need for Rosetta, and , presumably, no problem in running it on an Intel iMac.
(Edit - I've just confirmed this at http://www.destineerstudios.com/support/halo.html It may be necessary to purchase the orginal version and then apply the update though. It wasn't altogether clear from the instructions)
    Cheers

  • Golf games on Intel iMac

My dad will be getting an iMac soon, and I really want to get him a golf game for it - he can't actually play golf any more, so I'm hoping it will be the next best thing!
I note that Tiger Woods 2005 seems to be the latest but is not universal (understandably). Has anyone tried it, or even the 2003 version, on an Intel machine? Any ideas how (if at all) it runs?
    TIA, Matthew

  • PC games on Intel iMac?

with boot camp will that allow me to install and play my PC games on a new Intel iMac?
looking at trading in our home Dell for a new iMac but want to be able to play games
    thanks

Once you setup Bootcamp it's like you're on a PC desktop/notebook. I am able to play Half-Life 2 on my MacBook Pro on high quality without a problem. Just make sure the iMac you get can handle the games, and RAM is important.

  • Want to play Power PC game on Intel-based Mac

First off, I'm sorry if this post is in an inappropriate category but I didn't know where to put it. My OS is Tiger if that's useful.
I want to play the game Black & White on my Intel-based Macbook. The game is only supported on PowerPC-based Macs. Is there any possibility of playing this game? If there is a solution, does it work well or is it really buggy, i.e. not worth it?
    Thanks for any help!

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions....
I'm afraid with the system requirements for the game being.....
    System Requirements
    Minimum (Macintosh)
    Mac OS 8.6/Mac OS 10.1.3
    PowerPC G3 333 MHz
128 MB RAM (with virtual memory set to at least 256MB)
Hardware accelerated 3D Graphics Card with 8MB VRAM
    500MB free hard disk space
    Mouse and keyboard
    Recommended (Macintosh)
Mac OS 9.2.2/Mac OS 10.2 or later
    PowerPC G3 500 MHz
    256MB RAM
Hardware accelerated 3D Graphics Card with 32MB VRAM
    1GB free hard disk space
that it can't run on an Intel Mac. In fact, the Mac OS 9.2 is Classic... that goes back a bit. But if you can find a friend who's running a powerPC Mac with Tiger running Classic, you could run the game that way. In fact, if the game is that important to you, you might be able to pick up an older iBookG4 with at least (Tiger) 10.4.x with Classic. You'd need the support disks that came with the iBook. There is no way it will run on the MacBook... sorry. The 8.6 system goes back to about 1998. It looks like the minimum requirements say 10.2 would work also, that was Jaguar. That would work also without having to run Classic.
