Games run better under rebooted mpb as windows

I've heard that many or certain games run better, (with more fps) under a windows reboot than natively under mac os x (on a mac intel computer). That this is because mac os x has a tighter limit on the usage of the hardware, in an effort not to burn it out. Has anybody else heard this, Is this true? Thanks.

What account is the service running under? It may be that the service does not have access to the folders it needs, or does not have the right java CLASSPATH set.
Can you try running the service under the exact same account that successfully runs via the command line?
Cheers,
Daniel

  • Do games run better when played using windows xp?

i was wondering if games run better if you have windows xp on your macbook?

Obviously, games with no Mac version will. In actual fact the answer really is… they can. Game performance depends on many many things so a straight answer of yes or no isn't going to be correct.

    Hi
Does anyone know how to run OIM under Weblogic as a windows service?
I have used "Setting Up a WebLogic Server Instance as a Windows Service" (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12839_01/web.1111/e13708/winservice.htm#START143), but It doesn't work because OIM use the xlStartWLS.cmd file and not startWebLogic.cmd.

  • Does cs5 gpu work better under windows 7 then xp ?

    Hi
i noticed that photoshop cs5 video card gpu works better under windows 7 32bit then xp 32bit (gpu come off but i enabled and restart photoshop cs5)
i did notice a better performance of xp sp3 then xp sp2, maybe i'm wrong
it's my guess or is real ?
i used the same ati drivers
by the way are there ati drivers that works better for photoshop cs5 then others?
    thanks
    cheers

I've tried all different settings.  In the end, and this is PURELY SUBJECTIVE, I think as good results just by leaving them on the out-of-box defaults as with any other setting.  My Photoshop CS5 64 bit is currently set up as follows, and my system is stable:
I normally increase my History levels, as you can see above, since I have a lot of RAM and I like to be able to go a long way back in time to what I had before a bunch of work - e.g., to double check to ensure I haven't lost info.
The one other setting in that set that I DO use - with GREAT care - is that occasionally I set the Cache Levels down to 1, which (with OpenGL turned off) allows me to see layer compositing on the screen done in the full bit depth of the document (e.g., 16 bits/channel).  This matters when I work on astroimages, which can involve severe pushing of the data (e.g., really steep curves).
I run my OpenGL settings in Advanced mode, which seems to work fine, though again I've never really noticed a performance difference between Normal and Advanced.

  • Can Mac Pro run AHCI under Windows?  No native command queuing?

It seems that Mac Pro runs AHCI under OS X.
Under Windows Vista 32/64 or XP 32/64, some reason AHCI cannot be enabled. It seems to only run legacy IDE mode. Even with modern HD, Mac Pro can not seems to take advantage of AHCI benefits such as hot-plugging and native command queuing. Does Apple thinks that native command queuing is necessary feature under OS X but not under Windows?
Even with installing AHCI driver using F6 during Windows installation, AHCI mode cannot be obtained.
Is there a simple way to enable AHCI mode besides modifying the grub bootloader as some suggested in forum? Or is it not possible until Apple modifies BIOS CSM or allows EFI modification? It seems that Apple wont address this issue with firmware update since Intel Mac Pros have been available for years now.
Any suggestion of enabling AHCI under windows XP / Vista will be welcomed.

HD Tune wont expect to show any change with or without NCQ.
NCQ will show advantage in server environment or heavy multi-tasking environment, not on I/O meter. NCQ may even slow some game playing in some instance.
AHCI adds other stuff like hotswapping or other modern goodies, not just NCQ.
Mac Pro has Intel chip / controller capable of AHCI and RAID (well pseudo Intel Matrix RAID) only if Apple allows us to enble it in EFI.

  • Which runs better? Windows 7 or Windows 8

Can anyone reccomend if I should install windows 7 or windows 8 on Bootcamp - are there pros and cons.  I am currently an XP user, so either way I am going to be faced with a new windows GUI so from that standpoint it doesn't matter to me, but wondered if there a version preference that runs better on Bootcamp?

Jump on Windows 8 and then redo with the 8.1 Preview.
It is ready, I like it, IE11 is also nice.
Windows 7 is 4 yrs old and while an improvement over Vista, it does not when I go back to using it feel as smoother or as smart.
8/8.1 deal with updates much better. Even the way it boots to desktop if you want. I was never enamoured of Start menu. Which has some in a fuss - I avoid the new Metro and for me, stays out of the way. Very efficient with resources.
I would only caution not to use or install say Safari 5 which is stuck in the past, or even iTunes, it wants to take over too much and of course is untested on 8 even. (My systems run better w/o).
Runs better on an iMac that has xx RAM, hard drive space, cpu specs, and what graphic card? and what do you run natively? New Macs can do most any non-3D or games or heavy lifting in a VM where you can run side by side. But if you need to run native and dual boot, then install it on a partition first.
Make sure you hve about 80GB disk space, 50 at least, and either is or convert during install to NTFS.

    Hi.
I have problems to get my Laser Jet 5L running properly under 10.5.8. I prints the first page/document and then it says1,36 % printed than printing but nothing happens. Under 10.4.11 everything works fine, sometimes I have to get the print jobs running again, but then it works.

Any devices that previously appeared in your Printer List and Fax List will need to be added again after resetting the printing system.
Resetting the printing system in Mac OS X 10.5.x
    1. To use the Reset Printing System feature in Mac OS X 10.5.x, follow these steps:
    2. Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
    3. Choose Print & Fax from the View menu.
    4. Control-click on list of printers on the left side of the window, then choose "Reset printing system" from the contextual menu. If you don't see a list of printers, Control-click on the text "Click + to add a printer or fax" and select "Reset printing system..."

  • Best practices for periodic reboot of MS Windows 2003 Server

    Hi there,
We are a 4-month old v9.3.1 Essbase environment running on a 8-CPU MS Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition server and we run data loads twice daily as well as full outline restructures overnight. Data loads are executed both via SQL retrieves (ie, from a view set up on another server) and via data file loads after clearing the outline and rebuilding it.
Over time, I have noticed that the performance of the server was degrading markedly and that calculation scripts are taking longer. Funnily enough, the server's performance goes back to what I would expect it to be after a full reboot.
    My questions are as follows:
    1. Is it typically best practice to reboot MS Windows 2003 servers when dealing with a heavily accessed environment?
    2. If yes, is it mentioned anywhere in the Essbase manuals that MS Windows servers ought to be rebooted on a periodic basis in order to perform at their optimal best?
    3. Does Microsoft recommend such a practice of rebooting their servers on a periodic basis? I looked throughout their KnowledgeBase but couldn't find any mention of this fact in spite of the fact that it is obvious that a periodic reboot boosts the performance of MS Windows servers.
Thanks in advance for your responses/recommendations
    J

A bit of non essential additional info:
We are small to midrange school district who, after close to 20 years on Novell networks, have decided to design and create a new Microsoft network and migrate all of our data and services over to the new infrastructure .   We are planning on rolling out
2012 r2 servers with as much Hyper-v virtualization as possible.
During the last few weeks we have been able to find most of the information we need to undergo this project, and most of the information was pretty solid with little ambiguity, except for information regarding virtualizing the DCs, which as been a bit inconsistent.
Yes, we have read all the documents that most of these posts tend point to, but found some, if not most are still are referring to performing this under Srvr 2008 r2, and haven’t really seen all that much on Srvr2012 r2.
We have read these and others:

  • My games run at same slow fps at every quality

Previusly I had a Pentium4 1.7 on Intel 845WN with 128MB SDRAM(133mhz). I recently bought XFX 6600GT agp8x. The games ran nice. So I decided to upgrade my PC (in my limited budget). After reading articles( anandtech and xbitlabs) abt cpus, I came to decide that Intel celeron D would perform better than the Pentium 4 1.7.  So I bought on 15-12-2004 :- Intel Celeron D 2.4 ghz, MSI 661FM-L, 512MB DDR333mhz. I have a 300 watts power supply.
    The problem is :-
    Doom3 , 1024x768 High Quality, 4xAA , avg. FPS = 6
    Doom3 ,   640x480 Low Quality, no AA, avg. FPS = 6
NFS Und.2, 1024x768 Maximum quality ,max AA,  avg FPS = 15
    NFS Und.2, 800x600   Lowest quality , no AA         avg FPS = 15
Mafia, avg. FPS at any graphics quality = 6
The same is in other games.
I installed the Beta driver 67.03 but still no effect.
Can any one tell me where the problem lies?

After having my new PC i gave a full NTFS format to my HDD and installed a fresh copy of windows. Then I installed nvidia driver. then I installed Sis agp driver. I found games running slow. I updated my vga driver finding no effect. Then I just checked whether the same problem is arriving with the integrated vga. The same problem was there even with builtin vga. I uninstalled it and again installed nvidia driver. No effect. I installed nvidia's beta driver. Result: same situation prevails.
    what should i do now?
PS : in XFX's manual ( which came with vga), it said a min of 300 watts PSU is required.

  • Has anyone used bootcamp to play PC games? If so, do the games run well and without lag?

I want to use bootcamp to install windows on my Macbook Pro (Early 2011). It runs Mac games well but I am afraid it will slow down my computer once I install Windows 7.

Won't slow your Mac down if you use Bootcamp, Windows installs on a partition on the slower 50% of the boot hard drive from the bottom up, however that shouldn't affect PC game performance all that much, only when loading data it might not be as fast as it can be. Likely hardly noticable really.
OS X might feel a bit more snappy as it loads from the faster top 50% of the boot drive.
If you have a SSD then it doesn't matter about the drive performance.
Outside of that Windows will run on the CPU and dedicated video card just about the same, as since OS X and Windows are in seperate parittons they boot seperatly and thus have full control of the hardware.
Now if you also install virtual machine software like Parallels or VMFusion that can copy the BootCamp partiton to use Windows in a window in OS X, and you run other programs in OS X and Windows/programs at the same time, that could slow down your Mac as it's running two operating systems and several programs at the same time.
A powerful Mac, a recent 15" or better should have no problem, as long as there is 4GB of RAM or more. However for best 3D game performance it's better to direct boot into Bootcamp to let Window shave full hardware control and Direct X drives.
Virtual machine software uses the OS X OpenGl drivers, so any program in there will have to use Open GL drivers.
The 13" is better off using Bootcamp and direct booting, it won't be good at games anyway as it doesn't have a more powerful dedicated video card.
Ideally Windows 3D games should be played on a dedicated Windows 3D gaming tower, this way the video cards can be exchanged for newer ones which on the Mac you can't.
If you intent ot Windows #3D game, go that route and don't bother with gaming on a Mac as you can't upgrade the hardware. (or get video cards for the MacPro if sticks around, it hasn't been updated in ages)

  • Can I run adobe master collection in a windows partition on a basic mbp 13" with only the intel chipset?

can I run adobe master collection in a windows partition on a basic mbp 13" with only the intel chipset?
I want to install 16 gb ram but I don't think I can change the lack of video card. I wanted this basic machine because it has fairly long battery life. I don't need or want retina at this time. My model is the mid 2012 model. I am running the adobe collection for mac, I want to run the windows versions. Is it possible? What is the most ram I could access using something like fusion 5, assuming I could get fusion 5 to work? would it refuse to run because of the intel chipset and lack of video card?
If I'm wrong and there is a way to add a video card to this model, could some version of fusion and windows 7 access more than 2 gb operating ram?
What  cost would I be incurring, and would it be cheaper to buy a windows laptop with more ram than I could access via a virtual machine?
I want to work on a client's work in the windows versions of the creative suite, with occasional usage of after effects for windows, and to use some web plug-ins only available in windows versions, and to try some windows-only video and audio software.
thanks for any suggestions. While many people have told me I can run everything on my macbook, I am concerned about what I think is a limited amount of ram that can be accessed over the virtual machine partition softwares, and I don't know if what I want to attempt is actually possible.
My mbp os is 10.8.2 on a 2.5 GHz intel core i5 4 gb 1600MHz DDR3 with 500 hard drive. the basic 13" mid 2012 machine.
I'm hoping to install 16 G of opertating ram to allow more adobe programs to run concurrently- just when I am working on the mac side.
also, off track but, for years I have wanted a small  machine that is more easily portable than my 15" machines. I have only had this used machine for a few weeks, but already I have been very satisfied and used it for presentations at clients. I don't want an air because I really want the dvd burner and player. No matter what apple says about wireless, there are decades of legacy work stored on optical discs all over the world, and I don't want to be unable to open something at a client's office because I don't have a dvd drive. Additionally, I have very large files I want to transfer via ethernet or firewire so that the transfer will take less time and be more secure than wifi. I resist apple's trend to make every machine a disposable toy that is viable only a year or so. I have read reviews that label the mbp it a poor value compared to the air. If all you need to do is text and communicate via wifi, many devices will sufice, and an air is certainly the most elegant. But what about the cost of large ssd's and protecting the drive against damage from shock? I want to be able to move this thing around and the small size is much safer inside my padded bag when I sit in narrow airplane seats, crowded trains and other congested spaces. I am much more likely to be able to borrow a large screen in a client's office ( with the use of one of the three adapters I had to buy) than to be able to borrow a dvd drive that has drivers for mac os 10.8.2. I suspect this may be the last generation of machines that have optical drives and ethernet, and that was why I purchased it so that I could continue to do work into the next few years. I am impressed by the retina display, but I need long battery life. And as beautiful as the retina display is, it is even more of a problem when trying to cross platform with the windows world. I wish I could infuence apple to do a trial product flow for a machine designed to work with 80% of the business world that uses windows. How spectacular that would be. With all their expertise and adept hardware design, to create a machine that cross platforms better than a windows machine itself works? Now that would be an accomplishment.  Instead of 8 or 9 percent of the total computer sales, why not aim for a higher percentage? Smart devices will keep moving toward portable computers in power, anyway.

Fusion should work on your machine and if you put 16 GB of RAM in (see http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Apple_MacBook_MacBook_Pro/Upgrade/DDR3_160 0MHz_SDRAM), Fusion can access a good portion of that. Also, in a Virtual Machine, the guest OS is presented with Fusion's video card emulation, not what's in hardware on your Mac. Of course, finding Windows 7 now that Win 8 has been released could take some doing and the Win 8 Pro upgrade price is supposed to jump to $200 the end of the month. Add that to the price of Fusion and the extra RAM and you're beginning to get into the realm of low end real PC's.
As to cross platform, I assume you're aware of BootCamp (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1461).

  • Help! Problem when running CF under a non-default service account

I am running ColdFusion 9 with IIS 7 on Windows Server 2008.
The CF application service is running under a domain application account rather than the default local.
The problem is when doing so failed templates keep an active request open indefinately.
Is there a permission setting I might be missing to resolve this issue?
Thanks for any help any one can provide.

Only when running CF under a domain account does the following occur:
If we have a cfm page that connects to a DB via a query tag and for some reason the query has an error,
Then it can be observed that the request to that page remains active as seen in the server monitor under statisitcs / Active Requests, it stays active and never closes although it should close.  Over time such open threads add up until the Maximum number of simultaneous template requests limit is reached.
For some reason the request does not close as it should, but if we run the CF under the default system account this does not occur.  I can only assume then the domain account has a permission issue.  It currently does not have Full Control on the ColdFusion9 directory so I will try that next.
