I have an ipad 2 with airport express that I use to play and change music whilst teaching ballet class. Recently, I keep losing connection and the airport express appears to be getting quite hot. I did use Archos but changed to Apple for reliabilty! Can anyone help or should I just buy a new airport express.

I agree that it's probably interference. Only other possibility, since you mentioned it, it overheating. Is the express situated so that it is well ventilated? That is to say, not buried under other equipment and laying on its side? What does the status light do when you lose connection?

• MSI GAMING 970: Network drivers not found

Good day,
I have encountered an issue, made more confusing as i was playing a MMO when it occurred. MSI GAMING 970
Network drivers are missing:
"Windows did not detect a properly installed network adapter. If you have a network adapter, you will need to re-install the driver"
so I try to reinstall them. then I get the error message :
"The realtek network controller was not found. If Deep Sleep Mode is enabled Please Plug The Cable"
The case has not been opened, the computer was on and running a game at the time of the fault.
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks in advance for your help.

I did give all relevant information as the issue is with the integrated network interface.
Device manager shows nothing, drivers won't re-install because it can't see the device. Drivers are from CD. I can get (very) limited access to the internet with a wireless card but it's intermittently at best.
Read the post.
What CPU? What power supply? What memory?
Without proper information we are going to spend many posts trying to figure out what the problem is. Instead of arguing it, just provide the information from the >>Posting Guide<< and we can more easily and better diagnose the problem.

• My computer shut down on Friday night, and it was quite hot to the touch.

My computer shut down on its own Friday night and was quite hot to the touch. On Sunday afternoon I booted it up and got an error message that said the cooling fan was not functional. I am a computer technician, so I disassembled the laptop, and then plugged the ribbon cable back in so I could hit the power button and the fan was turning properly. The vents are not obstructed at all.
After I reassembled the laptop, I was able to power it up without the error message and it has been running ok, but I have been watching it closely, checking to make sure I hear the fan running every so often. So far so good.
I also adjusted the HP Cool Sense to maximum cooling.
Aside from perhaps applying some Arctic Silver between the heat sink and the processor, are there any other steps I might want to take before ordering a fan?
If I do need to order a new cooling fan, what part do I need to get?

Here's your Service and Maintenance Guide:
HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide

The main steps to cooling are as you have already surmised - a decent application of thermal paste and a fan that works as it should.
The old 902 cooling fan error doesn't apply to this dv6-6000 series. Assuming your BIOS is up to date (nothing new since 9/2011), and your drivers are good, there is nothing else that should be related in that department.

• I spilt quite hot water on my keyboard! help!

I spilt hot water on the right side of my keyboard, i left it upsidedown for about 7 hours, 3 hours long it has layed in an angle of 30 degrees, i think that the water slowly streamed further into the computer, now i have layed my computer unplugged, upsidedown and i am going to wait overnight, what should i do? i tryed to turn it on but it didn't work, so, it won't start. i am going to the Applestore tomorrow. any suggestions about what i should do? does it make any difference that it was quite hot water, not that it was boiling but it wasn't cold.
please help.
Thanks in advance,
Bas van den Boomgaard
P.S. I live in the Netherlands so that is why my English isn't that good.
P.P.S. I don't know if there is still any water in my MacBook.

I don't think there is anything you can do now except let somebody qualified have a look at it.

• Re: 970 Gaming is quite hot

Go to intel graphics control panel, select power, select max performance for the plugged in and on battery. Also disable power saving and automatic display brightness.

• Battery service error + running quite hot

I've notices the last couple of weeks that my macbook is acting very strange, it sometimes dies at 32% and when i try to reboot it gives me the icon that the battery is empty.
Now today i notices this error on my battery where it says "service battery". My macbook runs hot thats quite normal so i use fancontrol.
Beside that i notice it is starting to be slow, especially in finder, webpages, laggy UI.
I'm quite a poweruser, and use alot of adobe's programs and also C4D. Now that i've seen that my battery went to 35.3 degrees Celcius / 95.5 degrees Farenheit i'm slightly worried it should be around 30 or even less, i know a hot battery is bad for longevity. It has close to 650 cycles wich is over 300 but still not close to 1000. The only other thing i have with this model is my keyboard makes a buzzing noise when the backlighting is on, but this has been like this since i bought it.
i've already did a SMC reset
Anyone have experience with this? are these battery temps normal or are they way to hot?

Aa a point of information, I opened CoconutBattery on my MBP and this is the result:
I do not have any resource intensive applications open and ambient temperature is 25°c.
Ciao.

• 980TI G6 Gaming is running very hot and thermal throttling

So I've been stability testing my new 980TI G6 Gaming and it performs okay but man is it hot. I think there's an issue with the GPU not making good contact with the heatsink, maybe uneven thermal paste, because after about 10 minutes it gets up to over...

I have been looking into MSI, and I would like to get one of their notebooks, however I am unsure of which one to buy given the large variety of models they have.

• 2013 MacPro is quite hot while idle

I have noticed previously that my 2013 MacPro is significantly warmer than others while idle. Just placing my hand on top reveals it to be quite warm, while the store models and my friend's machine (which is identical to my own) are quite cool (barely noticeable heat).
Checking iStat menus, my "PCIe Switch Diode" is currently sitting above 80°C, and has been for the recent history. See attached graphs.
Is this... normal? My machine is essentially doing nothing (<2% CPU usage, <2fps from the D700s).
The rest of the sensors currently read:

I do not know what those numbers should look like, but I am surprised by seeing things called "12V High…" at under 12 Volts. It has been a tradition to run the 12 Volts at higher than 12V, then regulate it down for actual use.
Are you getting "noises" out of the power supply? An annoying humming sound? Some Users had noises that drove them crazy and their Macs worked much better after Apple replaced the supply (under warranty).

• Looking for info on the msi 970 gaming .

Looking at the msi gaming 970 as a GPU. I know about the ram issue. Looking for info about the card in general (persons perspective ). Like how does it overclock, cooling, bios updates, warranty and so on.
My specs
4790k-4.0
gigabyte z97 black edition MB
8gb gskill
WD valaciraptor HD
Thanks.

Cooling: It has very good cooler (better than 780Ti which I own) so surely low temps (<70C with fans 35%~ )
OC: It's a gamble. One can overclock better than the other
Warranty: As far as I know, 1 year with seller and further 1 year directly with MSI
BIOS updates: it's new card so rarely any updates right now, but there are some if something is being fixed/improved.
Should work fine in your system, no bottleneck with i7 4790
Just depends if you look at reference design or Gaming series.

• Gaming issues and heat issues, running windows 8.1 pro via bootcamp

I have a few problems, and I don't know what else to do, then to write for help here..
I really hope someone out there can help me, because I have had this problem since I bought my laptop mid 2012, and I got smarter since then, so now I know that I actually shouldn't have these problems, it's not because my very expensive laptop is bad, or that it is a laptop or because it's a mac, regardless of what people say, I'm positively certain that it's a problem which shouldn't be there.
I have pretty great specs, (trust me i checked them out, not the best in the world, but pretty good) yet I can't enjoy 1 single mmorpg game like, Tera, or the new Archeage (currently in open beta), or any other game, (swordsman online)... Even though people say Tera has bad coding, I have tried adjusting things for weeks if not months, NOTHING helps, i get a frame rate that is from 0-25 very unstable, usually around 7-12, and sure if I go the lowest settings in the games I can get very unstable framerates but i guess they can get up to around 35-72 but drops to like 7 or 3 sometimes as well, so even on the LOWEST settings in the games I can't enjoy the games fully... It lags and such because of the low fps ofc...
Other than that it also have a heat issue, mostly when running windows 8.1 in bootcamp.
It get's quite hot, just by opening a browser window, and yes i have tried reseting smc, and p-rams, many times.. nothing seems to help.
And even if it helped the heat problem, the gaming problem is still there.
Now to my specs: (I have the macbook pro retina, mid 2012, 15 inch)
- Prosseser: 2.6GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor (Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz) with 6MB shared L3 cache. "Core i7" processor (3720QM)
- Memory: 16GB 1600MHz DDR3L onboard memory
- Storage: 256GB ssd flash storage. (Seperated into os x = 130GB, windows 8.1 pro = 120GB) Running games and such from my 1TB external harddisk.
- Graphics and video support:
Intel HD Graphics 4000
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory and automatic graphics switching
Dual display and video mirroring: Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 2560 by 1600 pixels on up to two external displays, at millions of colors.
And here's a link to see what is inside it for yourself: http://http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/specs/macbook-pro-core- i7-2.6-15-mid-2012-retina-display-specs.html
When that is said, apple's warranty has run out, and I didn't buy apple care, but I still have warranty from the store (humac) I bought it in, because in my country the law is warranty 2 years, no matter what, but if i can avoid it, I REALLY would like to avoid switching it out with a new one, since there could be problems all over again, and I would lose what I have on it right now, plus it's a hassle to get a new one, they will always try and fix it for a long long time before they give a new one, and probably can't find the problem...
But if that's the only thing i can do about it, I will ofc, but just don't advise me to do that, unless there's no other solution to the problems.
Please help me.
ps: sorry if I posted it the wrong place, I wasn't allowed to post it the right place by apple...

If the underlying hardware was exposed correctly by the CSM-BIOS when Windows was installed, your Device Manager should look like this.
If the Windows installer did not see any devices as your screen indicates, Windows will use generic software-based drivers which will be very slow and painful.
Rudegar ... I think the Windows installer did not see any hardware, otherwise there should be HW with yellow triangles with exclamation marks.

• Gaming effects on 13" MacBook Pro Retina 2014's battery life

My friend told me that his 13" macbook pro retina 2013 battery life decreased significantly after a couple week of intense gaming usage. Now it won't last long even only for browsing. He played Dota 2 and he said that the fan scream so loud whenever he play, and it becomes so hot. He didn't know his laptop temperature but it is quite hot.
Why is the battery performance getting worse? Is is because the heat?
Please give me a clear explanation. I just bought a new macbook pro and i am too afraid to use it for playing any games. I just don't want my battery to decrease that fast.

You can read more about battery life here:
https://www.apple.com/batteries/maximizing-performance/
https://www.apple.com/batteries/
Heat and cold will have an impact on any laptop battery over time (that's the way it is.) However, as long as you take care of your computer, you should not worry about that.
How many times a day does your friend charge his mac? under theory, 1 charge should last you the whole day, (so, if you do play games and watch movies, you might need to plug it in 2 times.) If you keep your mac plugged in all the time , then that will also have an impact on the life of your battery. Apple support site has more info on that (you can browse the site)

• My iPhone 5 is getting very hot and battery drains quickly.. normal?

I've been having a variety of signal related problems with my iPhone 5 and I'm wondering if anyone can offer any advice. From day 1 I have observed that my phone will have poor signal strength or will switch from 4G or LTE into Edge mode, even if my wife standing right next to me (same network same iphone 5) has better signal. Phone also frequently gets quite hot (to were it's uncomfortable to hold).
I did a long hike last weekend and in the space of 3.5 hours, while doing nothing but listening to music and taking a few photos, the phone was nearly drained (20%). If I tried to take a photo it would simply shut down after pressing the shutter button. I also had no signal (phone was searching), even though other AT&T iphone users around me had signal and were texting, making calls and sending photos (this was from a mountain top so the temps were quite low).
Apple diagnosed the radio in my phone and said it is fine (good attenuation and no dropped calls). They recommended that I wipe the phone and set it up as a new phone versus restoring from a backup (what a pain). I did this and while returning from an outing yesterday I had 3 bars of LTE signal and noticed that with just light browsing the phone got very very warm and the battery was draining quickly. In the space of just an hour the phone plummeted from 75% to 30%.
I'm trying to determine if all of this is "normal" or if I should demand a replacement phone. I have tons of Macs, iPads, iPhones, etc (for both myself and my wife) and I've never seen Apple so reluctant to do a hardware swapout as they were when I was in the store yesterday.

Did you transfer the backup for your 3GS to your iPhone 4S?
Try a reset, which is done by pressing and holding the home button and the sleep/wake or on/off button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo and then release.
If no change after a reset and you transferred the backup for your 3GS to your 4S, try restoring your 4S with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from a backup to see if this makes any difference.

And there you have it my friend, MSI’s Z97A-Gaming 6 motherboard. Sleek isn’t it?!
This is a 4-layer PCB with matte black finish complimenting the red stripes for both VRM & bottom part heatsinks. There is a total of 8 power phases which is enough to squeeze out more juice from the processor during overclocking. Military Class components make the board sturdy, stable and efficient. You can see them all over the board but specifically more are placed around the processor socket area.
Before getting close with other parts of the board, here are the input/output rear ports. All red ports are part of MSI’s gaming features. Starting from the left is a PS2 combo port capable of autosensing keyboard or mouse and below it are 2x USB 2.0 ports. Both internally are gold plated to protect against oxidation and increase the lifetime 10x longer when plugging/unplugging devices. It also makes the mouse or keyboard more responsive in games.
Next, you have a wide range of display terminal options. Specifically VGA, DVI and HDMI ports and just above that is a Digital SPDIF audio terminal. The small port there is the USB 3.1 type-c connector and beside it are the Killer E2205 Gigabit LAN and 2x USB 3.0 ports. Lastly, 6 analog gold plated audio jacks with one dedicated amplified output optimized for studio-grade headgear.
Did you notice that chrome dragon on the Dragon Claw VRM heatsink before?
I really like how the components are laid out around the socket, no obstructions for installing any 3rd party market coolers out there in the market.
8pin power connector for powering up the processor and MSI manage to put a M.2 socket just above the 1st 16x PCIe slot. M.2 uses PCIe 2x bus and takes full length 2280 and 2260 M.2 devices.
4x DDR3 DIMM slots capable of speeds up to 3200MHz with max capacity of 32GB. On top of the 24pin power connector are the voltage check points. You can just tap your digital multi-tester on the read points to get real-time voltages of hardware components like the processor, memory and system agent.
The board is packed with PCIe connectors that starts with PCIe 1x and runs through 16x, 1x, 1x, 8x, 1x to 4x. If you are planning to do multi-graphics card setup, just go for a dual configuration only as the last video card slot is crippled to 4x bandwidth. At the bottom-most part are headers like USB 2.0, HD Audio, Power/Reset/HDD LED/Power LED and also present here is the debug LED for easy troubleshooting of basic bootup problems.
On the left side is where the isolated Audio Boost system is found. From the audio capacitors, amplifier chips, Realtek audio chip and Audio power header are put together into one place.
6x SATA 6GB/s ports are available but some will be lost once you utilize the SATA Express connection. RAID configurations can be set to 0/1/5 and 10. You also have here another USB 3.0 front header in a 90 degree position for better cable management.
Moving on, here are some handy software features of the MSI Gaming motherboard.
•MSI Eco Center – With this, you can turn off or disable certain ports or connectors of the board.
•MSI Gaming App which I already discussed earlier
•Sound Blaster Cinema 2 – Improving more the audio quality of Audio Boost 2
•MSI Fast Boot & Go2Bios – Shortcut command software to enter BIOS right away after a restart.
•MSI Command Center – The All in One Center to tweak and overclock your motherboard, fans, memory, built-in graphics card and processor.
MSI Command Center lets you enable the OC Genie function through Windows and make use of the RAMDisk application for high data read and write performance
Here is another exciting part of the review. Intel’s flagship LGA-1150 Broadwell i7-5775C. This is a 14nm die shrink of Haswell which was built on 22nm with a few tweaks and rated speed of 3.3Ghz (Turbo 3.7GHz). Being 14nm in die size, results to a lower power consumption and lesser heat. TDP is only at 65W but I guess Intel might be releasing soon a Broadwell based on 88W with higher frequency.
You have here is the first set of Broadwell to be launched in the market. As for the naming rule goes, I’m not really sure why Intel use “C” this time for their unlocked multiplier processors while “R” is for the BGA (Ball Grid Array) embedded to the board package.
*Crystalwell is the codename of the L4 cache (eDRAM) featured in the Iris Pro-enabled Haswell CPUs
Another best feat of Broadwell is its integrated graphics chip – Iris Pro 6200. It utilizes the extra eDRAM L4 Cache to gain more memory bandwidth. The architecture also provides faster 3d and compute performance
•20% more computes and 50% higher sampler throughput
•Microarchitecture improvements for increased Geometry, Z, Pixel Fill Performance
•More Thermal Headroom with 14nm Process
•Scalable Architecture
•Continued Focus on Gaming with support for Direct X* 11.2 & OpenGL* 4.3
•OpenCL 1.2 and 2.0 (with Shared Virtual Memory Support) for GPU Compute
You will be amaze how the Iris Pro 6200 performs with popular games title today. Benchmarks will be shown later too and the only thing I could say “We have a new IGP king!!!”.
Here comes the good part where the motherboard and processor meets up. They will be put to the test to show off some benchies scores
Test System Configuration:
•Processor: Intel i7-5775C 3.3Ghz / 3.7Ghz Turbo
•Motherboard: MSI Z97A Gaming 6
•Integrated Graphics: Intel Iris Pro 6200
•Memory: Kingston HyperX 2x4GB DDR3 2133MHz
•SSD: Kingston HyperX 3k 128GB
•PSU: Antec TPQ 1200W
Software:
Windows 7 64Bit SP1, latest downloadable CPU-Z & GPU-Z, Cinebench R15 & R11.5, PCMark 7, Heaven Benchmark, 3dMark13 , Catzilla
Games:
Far Cry 4 and Call of Duty Advanced Warfare
Catzilla is a benchmark program with impressive animation. It tests your computer graphics capabilities if it can run the latest games today or watch HD movies in best quality. It can also suggest what hardware modules of your computer should be replaced in order to get best performance.
PCMark 7 is a complete PC benchmarking solution that measure performance under common use scenarios or at the hardware component level. It includes 7 tests combining more than 25 individual workloads covering storage, computation, image and video manipulation, web browsing and gaming.
Heaven software is a GPU-intensive benchmark software that tests your graphics card to the limits. This can be used to determine the stability of a GPU under stressful conditions, as well as check the cooling system’s potential under maximum heat output
Basic mode uses DirectX 9
Extreme mode is DirectX 11
Maxon Cinebench Software tests both CPU and Graphics Card Performance. I use version R11.5 and R15 of Cinebench
CPU test scenario uses all of your system’s processing power to render a photorealistic 3D Scene. This scene makes use of various algorithms to stress all available processor cores.
R11.5 CPU Result: 8.52
For the Graphic test side, the procedure uses a complex 3D scene depicting a car chase which measures the performance of your graphics card in OpenGL mode. The performance depends on various factors, such as the GPU processor on your hardware, on the drivers used. The graphics card has to display a huge amount of geometry and textures.
R11.5 GPU Result: 2074.43
R15 CPU Result: 792CB
R15 GPU Result: 81.63
3dMark13 Cloud Gate is a new test that is designed for Windows notebooks and typical home PCs. Cloud Gate includes two graphics tests and a physics test. Cloud Gate uses a DirectX 11 engine limited to Direct3D feature level 10 making it suitable for testing DirectX 10 compatible hardware.
Fire Strike is a showcase DirectX 11 benchmark designed for today's high-performance gaming PCs. It features real-time graphics rendered with detail and complexity far beyond what is found in other benchmarks and games today.
Lastly, game benchmark results of Intel Iris Pro 6200. Resolution at 1920x1080 with medium graphics quality.
We know how intensive Far Cry 4 game is but Iris Pro 6200 was able to handle it
These are the game settings
Call of Duty Advanced Warfare baby!!! And it’s fast and smooth!!!!
So that concludes my short review. The Gaming 6 is quite similar with the Gaming 5 design except for the IO Ports, inclusion of the USB 3.1 function and SATA Express port. So if you are planning to build your gaming system now, it’s good to have these new functions as to make your system future proof. I’m sure there will be lots of USB 3.1 devices in the future, be it smartphones or storage devices. Aside from this, Z97 chipset motherboards are compatible with the latest Intel Broadwell processors. I’m sure you were amazed upon seeing the performance of the Intel Iris Pro 6200 in games. The IGP is capable of playing latest games smoothly even at high resolutions.

• Windows Vista 64bit on boot camp running hot?

I have just installed win vista and seems to be running quite hot?
I hardly use Microsoft OS anyway its just for apps but that seems to be running hot and not comfortable with it.
any idea?

Mainly this is because Windows cannot control the fans which causes the computer to heat up. It's a well known problem.
Some solutions include the use of fan control software for the Mac such as SMCFanControl to set the fan's idle speed to a higher level before booting into Windows. Another solution is Input Remapper.
