Gaming properly: using a ps3 pavigator

I have a PS3, I have a Wii, I love motion controllers for gaming.
-I've tride a few different how-tos for conecting the dualstick controller to the PS3, and they don't work, I suspect the culprit has to do with getting it to pair properly.
Ultimatly I want the navigation controller for gaming goodness-
What google-fu do I use to get that?

I have been researching this extensively, and this is what I have found thus far.
I bought a $4.99 app in the app store called Joystick Mapper. I mapped keyboard functions to the controller and went into the game.
It did not work.
Apparently "Ubisoft" games do not support anything but Apple brand keyboards, so since this "keyboard" I created is not Apple brand, it does not work.
I don't have any other games, so I can't tell you if the app works elsewhere, but it seems like it does, because with Joystick Mapper, I selected "Assassin's Creed 2" preset I created, and went to someplace I could type, and started pressing buttons, and it was working there. So it is giving the correct commands that I mapped, so the program seems to work fine. It's just Ubisoft. That really makes my blood boil.
Has anyone else found a solution for Assassin's Creed 2? Or any other Ubisoft games?
There has to be a way!

Properly Using Configuration Information/Files

I've read through the previous posts on the forum and have scoured the internet looking for information, but I still don't feel that I know how to properly use configuration information for my program.
Basically, this program is a large scale application that requires a ton of configuration information (as opposed to just specifying constants). The reason I am doing this is because the scientists we are working for want to be able to adjust almost any parameter at any time. Right now, I am using a standard .ini file (which is getting unwieldy). There are 7 main segments for my program (Output HW, Input HW, Network Comms, Calcs, etc.) that need to have configuration information stored. Currently there are 178 different "sections" with up to 7 "keys" per section.
I have thought about...
1. Using a single configuration file. This is getting unwieldy, and being able to change any parameter at any time can lead to a ton of old config files (each old file is time/date stamped and saved so that all old config's can be available). Creating a parser for this is a bear.
2. Using multiple configuration files. Seems better, but this leads to 7 config files and 7 config file parsers to maintain.
3. Go with an XML format config file. I'm not too familiar with this, but it seems more scalable than .ini.
4. Using an Excel file with columns and rows that are parsed for config information. Doesn't seem to be the way to go... (as there are many different sections and each section has different types of keys)
I am just confused now on the way to approach this problem. Any help or direction would be appreciated.

This statement is a little confusing to me. I certainly hope you aren't creating a brand new config file everytime a control is changed on the front panel.
Seems I didn't explain myself well. Every time any one of the configuration options changes, we have to create a new file and move the old file (with time/date stamp) to an "Old Config Files" folder. That way, in case they need to do any post-processing of the data, they can use the configuration settings that occurred when the specific time-stamped data file was recorded.
The reason why there is so many is because we have a ton of channels to record data from (including network and calculations) which brings us to about 178 different configuration options to be addressed, each option with several keys of its own.

Airport will work with PS3. From what you've stated, the Extreme is more than you need. Buy the Express.

New Macbook Pro 2014 for Gaming / casual use

I really like to play video games but with this current setup ^ its very sluggish and I get very low FPS
I'm considering getting the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display and with the 3.0GHz Dual-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.5GHz
My questions:
Will this computer be able to handle a constant 60fps in most games? (Borderlands 2, portal 2, Bioshock Infinite)
And I've heard other places that this computer also has a Nividia graphics card that it switches over to when you play anything that requires more than the Intel 4000 that it comes with.

No it wont.
Macbook Pro's hardware are mediocre for gaming. In your specific case, the 13" does not offer the possibility of a dedicated graphics card, only comes with Intel Iris. The 15" one does, the NVIDIA GT 750M with 2gb, yet it's weak for gaming above 40-50 fps, also dual-core processors are not very powerful these days either and you will most likely experience heating issues on intensive gaming sessions. If you like gaming Mac is not very efficient for it, unless you get a mac pro, but of course you would loose portability. The 27" iMac can be set with the GT 780m, it has 4gb but its still weak since its a mobile graphic chip as well, even the 5k iMac uses almost identical hardware setup than the regular iMac but with an AMD chip (also 4gb ram), while the 5k looks great with such hardware it is unable to handle smooth gaming on that resolution as well.
Dont get me wrong, I'm not here to trash Apple, at the office we work with around 8 to 10 macbook pros but none of them, not even high end ones are able to game smoothly, in fact, some games run better on windows via bootcamp than OS X.

Websites no longer show up properly using osx 10.6.8 ffox 36.0.1

i am pretty sure it's the fact I am still using OSX 10.6.8 but some websites no longer show up properly the way they show up on OSX 10.10
even in safari websites no longer show up the way it does on the new OS. I have also downloaded the latest flash player. I like using snow leopard to me it is the best version of osx in many instances and would like to continue using it. It looks like the html or flash code cannot be deciphered.

Missing icons are usually supplied by a font that is downloaded from the server (@font-face) as you might see by little boxes that show the hex code of the characters instead.
In your case you have a font installed in Windows that covers this range.
You need to make sure that you allow pages to choose their own fonts to make Firefox use fonts that are downloded.

You can check the <b>gfx.downloadable_fonts.enabled</b> pref on the <b>about:config</b> page and make sure that it is set to true (if necessary double-click the line to toggle its value).

Envelopes do not print properly using an All-in-One Photosmart C410a and C310a

My HP C410a is USB attached. Serial
Using Windows 7, SP2 (Home Premium - desktop); and Windows XP (laptop)
Using Word 2010 (WIN7) and Word 2007 (WIN/XP)
The printer has latest drivers: PS_AIO_07_C410_FSW_Full_Win_enu_140_222.exe

It prints normal pages OK, e.g.: there are no anomalies.
But, when I print an envelope from Word 2010 it does not print on the envelope as expected (a No. 10 envelope), but rather the printer IGNORES the formatting in Word and prints the address as if the envelope in the printer is an 8-1/2”x11” page, in landscape mode (the only correct action).
I have uninstalled and deleted the driver multiple times.
Yes, I last did the uninstall Sunday June 12, 2011; followed by a fresh install.
Yes, I printed an envelope after the fresh install and it printed properly.
Today, the anomaly (the address prints in the wrong location, e.g.: middle of an 8-1/2”x11” page) has recurred.
Between Sunday and today, I did not make any changes in my system, e.g.: no Windows, Office, etc. updates. And, I did not change any of the envelope formatting or print options in Word 2010.
This is NOT a physical problem, rollers, print head, etc. as the printer is barely one month old --- and do note that the envelope (actually multiple) printed properly the other day - Sunday.
This is not the first time that this has occurred. Yes, on previous occasions I uninstalled and installed the drivers.
AND, more importantly, I have a laptop that uses the same printer, same driver, and Word 2007. It too now prints the envelope address incorrectly, e.g.: as if it is an 8-1/2”x11” page.
Hence, there is something inherently bad, wrong, defective, etc. inside the printer itself.
Before sending me on an Easter egg hunt, do notel:
Restarting, e.g.; power off /on /off / on does not work or fix the issue.
Uninstalling drivers and reinstalling drivers does not work, as explained.
Switching PC’s, as explained does not work.
Using different software suites, e.g.: Word 2007 (Windows XP – Professional) and Word 2010 does not work.
There are NO new updates from HP per the HP Solution Center.
What is HP’s solution?

This is not a problem with the printer - Word 2010 has it's own way of printing envelopes and labels that you must follow regardless of the printer. I have included some screenshots below to guide you along - I hope you find this helpful. The 3rd pic has the important areas marked with red rectangles - those are different from the defaults that Word ALWAYS seems to present at least on my system. With the following procedure, load the envelope as instruction in the HP Solution Center How-Do-I... videos (search for envelope - it should be among the first few articles you are presented in the search results).

How do I properly use symlinks for SSD/HHD hybrid MBP?

So, I have OS X (10.8.4) on the 120 SSD in my MBP. There's also a 500GB HDD partitioned into "Machintosh HDD" (250GB; this partition is what I intend for the storage drive) and "Time Machine" (250GB; I'm backing up the boot drive, am not doing so for the storage drive. Any remarks about this?). I don't want to dump the whole home folder on the the HDD, but I can't get the symlink commands in terminal correct. This guide seems to have the right idea, but it's not working. Example. I open the SSD (/Users/anotherwalrus/) and the HDD and drag the Pictures folder from the home folder into /Volumes/Machintosh\ HDD/storagedrive/ (Note: "storagedrive" is a folder I created at the base of the HDD). I open terminal. In ~/Users/anotherwalrus/ typing "sudo rm -rf Pictures" deletes the folder. I see it happen. Then again in ~/User/anotherwalrus/ I type "ln -s /Volumes/Machintosh\ HDD/storagedrive/Pictures". Okay, now there's an alias file in the home folder in Finder on the SSD that when clicked takes me to the copied Pictures folder on the HDD. However, and here is the problem, Pictures no longer exists. I mean, going into Finder Preferences and resetting it to show Pictures doesn't work because once you leave the Preferences page: * A) It's not in the sidebar * B) Going back into Preferences shows that it's unchecked Also, when trying to download photos from the net, there's not option to download in to the Pictures folder. Isn't the whole point of symlinks to show that the folder is in the home folder like normal, just it doesn't actually live or store data on the drive? Right now I don't have a Pictures folder in /Users/drtobin/ with the other folders (Documents, Movies, Applications, etc.). There are all of the folders I haven't messed with yet, and a white page alias icon that goes to the HDD. I thought the beauty of the symlink method of a mixed drive was that you can still interface (put files in, etc.) with the folder that pretends to be in /Users/anoherwalrus/ but really is on the HDD. Are there commands that will accomplish this properly. Wat do?

I don't know that copying them from an external would be any different than doing it internally because they are physically seperated. I have tried many different configurations. It won't let me erase or format the SSD so that I can clone the Hybrid to it. Which is what I prefer to do but I haven't boot from the recovery or an external and tried doing it that way. But even then I have to boot from each seperately, what is holding me up is I've lost both product keys to office and adobe ms 6 due to the fact of not only having them so long and always upgrade using dmg's as well as upgrading os's so often. So those programs are only available on one computer. Which happens to be on a seperate internal disk. A slick unix script would be nice. I am just really tired of trial and error and would like to get back to using my stuff.

I am trying to use this code rendered="#{!(securityContext.userInRole['ZPM_ENT_MARKETING_BUDGET_MANAGER_DUTY'])}" in the itemNode UI component of my Budget_taskmenu.xml. But UI is not rendering it properly.
I have checked the same code in the backing bean and it is returning true and false as per expectation but at UI level my menu is not coming properly (it is coming as #{null} in place of name in menu).
But same piece of code is working fine in my .jsff file where I am doing the same check in rendered attribute.

But I found the actual root cause of the issue.
There is nothing wrong in the expression rendered="#{!(securityContext.userInRole['ZPM_ENT_MARKETING_BUDGET_MANAGER_DUTY'])}".
The actual issue with my code was one label name was wrong bcoz of which menu was not rendering properly.

Transformations not occuring properly using PIVOT operator in OWB mapping.

In our project we have a OWB Map UII_D_MAP_SPC_CUST_FAULT_NATTR which is used to populate UII_CUSTOMER_FAULT table in our target side.
The source table which populate UII_CUSTOMER_FAULT is SR_S_TABLE_N_ATTRIBUTEVALUE (a materialized view in another External Db)
This Mview has 2 columns: S_N_STRINGVALUE & N_NAME.
When N_NAME is 'FAULT_REPORT_CODE' the corresponding S_N_STRINGVALUE value should populate the REPORT_CODE field in UII_CUSTOMER_FAULTin the target sde.
This source to target transformations is being done by using UNPIVOT operator in this mapping UII_MAP_SPC_CUST_FAULT_NATTR.
In ideal case when S_N_STRINGVALUE is NOT NULL, REPORT_CODE value should be populated with the value of source field value (ie the value of S_N_STRINGVALUE) and when S_N_STRINGVALUE is NULL , REPORT_CODE should be populated with 'XX'.
But in some cases REPORT_CODE value in UII_CUSTOMER_FAULT table is populated as NULL when S_N_STRINGVALUE is NOT NULL
which should not happen.
We suspect that there is some prpblem in the UNPIVOT operator, but we are not able to track down the exact location where it is failing. Can you please help in resolving this problem?
Shall we remove Unpivot operator and use CASE statement in some package that will be called through Expression operator?

How to use a ps3 controller with labview

I'm not too sure how the inputs of the controllers work on a lower level, but Sixaxis offers a driver to integrate the ps3 controller onto a pc. It is available at this website:

This may be an easier starting point that having to go from scratch. You can look into using the call library functions in labview and access some of the functions that may be available in that driver. This seems like a better choice then pulling out wires and using a daq device to read value since you wont actually have to take apart the controller. That being said, for support on that driver, you might have more luck on the sixaxis forums here:

I am writing a try-catch-finally block and I don't think it is written properly. I am using a BufferedReader and BufferedWriter like this:

    myOutput = new BufferedWriter(new FileWriter(outputFile));

}Now the whole point of the finally block is that it gets executed no matter what, so I want to make sure that the input and output file get closed even if there is an exception thrown. However, when I try to compile this code it doesn't work because it complains that there are unhandled exceptions in the finally block.
What am I doing wrong here? If I have to put yet another try block inside of the finally block...doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of the finally block?

If your first exception occurs during instantiation of your FileReader, for example, then myInput and myInput will both be null, causing a NullPointerException when you attempt to close them. Better to do something like:

What adobe flash player to use for ps3

ps3 has adobe flash player but it says i have to reset when i do it don't work . what to do.

It has not helped at all.
And I tried that before whenever I had to revert to the FP 10.3 version 6 months ago for just Hulu and netflix. It didn't help much there either way.
And before the problem cropped up originally everything was fine.
Although, then, I had removed Google Earth and Google Chrome because they seemed to influence the viewing a bit.
I have now readded Google Chrome as a secondary browser but it hasn't changed anything as far as the videos go.
I have now also upgraded to the latest Flash Player but I still have the same problems.
I can only view the Comcast movies and series in the lowest resolution and speeds and only can use the Normal screen at that, not the Full screen mode. And Comcast requires at least FP 11.1 to be used.
The movies are jerky, sometimes completely freezing up and the audio and video are almost always out of sync (again).
Short of replacing the graphics card, no one has come up with an answer.
I am sure a lot of people have older graphics cards in their system and have no problems with their video.
But I'm sure that I am not the only one that has this problem either.

How to properly use notifier?

attached is the screenshot of notifier communication. A NotifierSend.vi sends a boolean notifier (True), A receiver traps it in two loops.
I am getting the notifier indication properly in receive vi, but if I insert a "release notifier" after sending the notifier in NotifierSend.vi the receiver sometimes flashes error 1122, indication the notifier referance was destroyed when it was waiting.
I just want to confirm if this is the right way of using notifiers. do we have to release the referance to notifier anytime?
I am going to use it to execute two blocks in the receiver when ever the notifier is received.

I would really hesitate to confirm that is the right way. I fact, I would say that that way shows that you missed something basic about using functions on the synchronization pallatte.
Go back through the shipping examples on queues and notifiers.
Do not use "Obtain Notifier" in a loop
Do not use weakly named notifiers. In fact, use an unnamed notifier wherever possible to prevent some other chunk of code from doing unexpected things to "X" from some other place. (Really! Think about what would happen if you put together a large project and both you and a co-developer named a notifier "X"- imagine the hair loss you would suffer trying to figure out what the heck happened when you got notifications meant for the other X or X got destroyed in the other producer?!!!!)
As an aside- You really should use the error chain to enforce dataflow rhater than those Flat Sequence Structures- Trust me you'll eventually thank me for telling you that.

MSI Gaming App - Uses wrong Graphics Card.

Hello. I recently bought a MSI 970 4G Graphics Card. To improve performance/unlock more features, I downloaded the MSI Gaming App.
However, it seem to default to my other graphics card, a NVidia 750TI. For example, the LED option isn't there, the cooling mode only works on my 750, etc.
The only way I can get it to use my 970 (Meaning, access the LED function, and change the mode to Gaming/run the fan at 100%, etc.) is to remove my 750TI from the computer, which I do not want to do.
Is there a way to set my MSI 970 as the "default" graphics card? Or to make the program use it instead of the 750ti, without removing the 750 from my system?
