Gaming resolution

I'm trying to play Splinter Cell Mac Version on my G5 but my monitor keeps on coming up with the out of frequency message. What resolution do I need to set my monitor to so I can play. I'm running at 1280x960 on a 17" LCD.

The game may be changing the resolution or refresh rate. Many LCDs don't work well, if at all, at anything but the native resolution, and do not work with refresh rates over 60Hz. See if there are any setting in the game to make it leave the display setting alone. Many games like to take over the computer, and change display and keyboards settings.

  • LI2323S Not Allowing Full Gaming Resolution?

Hey there, so I'm a complete newbie at this kind of thing so please bear with me. This is my first PC and thus my first monitor in a very long time.
But yeah, basically, with help of my computer nerd friends (who can't seem to diagnose this problem either, oops), I recently purchased a very nice, very expensive gaming/graphics PC. It was custom built through IBuyPower and definitely has that last part. Power. It has a Nvidia 970 graphics card, Intel i5 processor, 16 gb ram, etc. etc. And when I had it hooked up to my 42" TV, I was able to play every game in Ultra/Nvidia settings.
Then I hooked it up to this monitor. Again, I don't know much about monitors and how they work, but should they be able to cap your graphics settings? I can still access Ultra (but not Nvidia) in Far Cry 4. I'm honestly not even sure what Nvidia was, but I'm confused why it would no longer be an option on my monitor vs my TV.
I'm connected through a high speed HDMI cable, the same one I was using with my TV. If you guys have any idea what is causing this/how to fix this, I'd super appreciate it. If not, I'll probably return the monitor and buy another one.
P.S. A little disappointed Lenovo has made contacting them directly so very difficult. You have to Google to find their customer service line (which I didn't have time to call this morning), and I could not find an email. Perhaps I'm blind, but I also wager I'm a pretty Average Consumer, in which case... shouldn't it be easier to find, if I'm having problems? Just a side thought.

Humm... the dual Samsung 21.5" monitor setup on my 2010 Mac Mini running Mavericks works a expected. One is on the HDMI to DVI adapter and the other in on a Kanex Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter.
Try > Display Menu from the Mac App Store and see if you can select 1920 x 1080 for both monitors using it.
Addtitionally, are you sure that it the HDMI to DVI monitor that is not getting the correct resolution...? Most people are complaining that it is a VGA connected monitor that is not getting the correct resolution.
If it turns out to be VGA connected monitor, then try using a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter and DVI cable for that monitor instead of VGA.

  • W500 - Internet Browser / Gaming Resolution Problem. Interface and UI too small / tiny

    Hi guys,
Whenever I start up Mozzilla Firefox or Google Chrome, the interface appears tiny and distorted.
    When I start up:
-Google Chrome: I get roughly normal sized pages, but the chrome user interface is too tiny!
-Mozzilla Firefox: I get small pages and a small interface.
Also, whenever I try to play a game called Runescape (Don't judge, lol), the java interface is really tiny compared to normal computers I play on.
I have included screenshots of the problem!
    Google chrome: http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/2380/resolutionproblem.jpg
    Mozilla Firefox: http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/4219/resolutionproblem2.jpg
    Please help!
    Thanks,
    Elusefelier

No, I believe you are mistaken:
#1. I know that you can use CTRL-+ and CTRL-- to increase the font size. I'm talking about the physical size of the browser INTERFACE, not the page itself. All of my icons (Home, options, back button) are tiny!
#2. I have my screen DPI settings for fonts at max! Screenshot:
    http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/6379/resolutionproblem4.jpg
#3. The "Set Custom Text Size (DPI)" does not change the way my interface looks, just the text on a page.
#4. Runescape, the game I have played for so long now has shrunk because of these graphical issues! Here is a screenshot. You can go to that same address and compare the size of the game on your screen to the size of the game on mine.

  • Widescreen resolutions LOWER than 1680x1050?

I have a MSI Geforce 7600 GS AGP 256mb graphic card and a Samsung 226BW monitor. My problem is, that I can't get any widescreen resolutions that are LOWER than the native 1680x1050. This is a problem, because I don't own the fastest machine (a 3ghz P4), so running games in the native resolution is impossible. Anybody who knows what to do here? Is it my graphic card that just doesn't support these resolutions, or is there something you can do about it?
I have updated my nvidia drivers, without any luck. I also tried to make all resolutions available, but this only gave me widescreen resolutions HIGHER than 1680x1050, which is no good...
    Anybody who can help?

    7600GS supports widescreen natively.
I think as far as gaming resolution is concern, the game should automatically refer the setting that the game is running.

  • MBP Retina Video Input?

    Hey all,
I was just wondering if it would be possible to use my retina display as a screen for my xbox 360. Im not sure if the hdmi port supports video input or if this is a possibility. Any Ideas?

    dacopenhagen wrote:
What you're forgetting is what pixel density is supported by modern gaming systems.  Currently the xbox only outputs 1080p which is 1920x1080
Yup, that's an important point. If the xbox does not support HiDPI/Retina resolutions, you would be wasting your Retina screen and in addition, as gaming resolution goes up frame rates go down, so if you do want to drive a very high resolution screen, you have to be sure the graphics hardware is powerful enough to handle smooth frame rates while moving that many pixels or it would just be jerky gameplay all the time.

  • R9 290X gaming 8G - standard resolution on HDMI output

    Hi,
Could anyone help me with the problem - I just installed new card 8G 290X and from hdmi output I'm getting standard resolution signal. In the standard controlling program it says its 32 bit true color 1080p signal, on -for example - youtube in settings is 1080p as well but its not - the videos and even desktop picture is of way poorer quality. Before, I had radeon 5870 and it was fine till last minute, so its not tv or cable or videos that Im checking ( ). It says the driver is updated. What else can it be? Codecs?

Does this happen when from DVI or DP? Any picture? Or driver settings?

  • Screen resolution of GS60 2PC003 Ghost gaming laptop?

I picked up a lightly used MSI GS60 2PC003 Ghost laptop and am puzzled by the screen resolution reported by several programs: 1366x768. I also see this when I boot Linux Mint from a USB flash pen drive. The MSI specs web page says
    LCD Size 15.6" Full HD (1920x1080), Anti-glare
so did someone swap the display? The specs page also says "The specifications may differ from areas and we keep the right to change without notice." Would the serial number help to determine which display it was assembled with?
The seller says he bought it in the US (in Florida, I think) and brought it back to Uruguay where we both live. It's a US English lappie.
I'm suspicious about the laptop now because the 1TB HDD is reporting a fatal error after just 8 hours of power on time.
    TIA to everyone who replies.

The lappie has Window$ 8.1 and it's totally up to date. That's one thing the guy I bought it from did--he always kept the M$ stuff up to date.
Every program I've tried shows the screen resolution is 1366x768. There's no higher resolution available as a choice, just lower resolutions.
Linux runs a hell of a lot better than Window$ does on the laptop. After I make a recovery backup, I intend to replace Window$ with Linux. A live Linux CD ISO running from a USB flash pen drive shows I'm not using any proprietary drivers under Linux and that's the way I want it.
I have a 1TB desktop HDD in a USB cabinet. Window$ doesn't see that external HDD and Linux does. There are a lot of other reasons not to use Window$; ask Ed Snowden.
I did have to update the BIOS from 103 to 111 and install all the driver updates in the order listed on the MSI web page. Nonetheless, the touchpad works fine under Linux and terribly under Window$, no matter how I adjust the Window$ settings for the touchpad.
I'm running DRevitalize from Hiren's Boot CD on the GS60 now to try and repair the HDD; it's going to take another day or so to finish. I've also got WinDFT from HGST, the HDD manufacturer's drive fitness test. Unfortunately, it doesn't attempt repairs like diagnostic software from some other manufacturers do. If it still fails SMART like I think it will, I'll try some disk repair stuff from Ultimate Boot CD before I buy a replacement HDD. 1TB isn't big enough for me anyway.
The HDD failed a few days after I bought the lappie. I've attached a screenshot of diskmgmt.msc taken the day before the HDD failed. It was good then. Very strange.

  • Gaming in non-native resolution @ i3 wm

whenever i exit a game that previously was running in a lower res than native (e.g. Soldier of Fortune with a max res of 1024x768), it lowers my desktop res (presumably to the game's own res) and in order to resolve it i have to call
    xrandr --output <device> --mode <res>
    each time.
i wonder if anybody had this before, and if so, what did they do about it?
    thx in advance!

I've come to just accept that this is what happens when playing some full-screen games in a tiling window manager. It's happened in every window manager I've ever used, and I just reset the resolution when I'm done.  I have a script that switches back-and-forth between my laptop display, and my laptop display plus an external monitor; I just run that after I'm done playing.
Try running games in windowed mode and using i3's fullscreen toggle. It's worked for me a couple times, and "fullscreen" games in i3 never grab the mouse and keyboard anyway, if you follow me.

  • Another feature to allow users to change screen resolution to HD for gaming

I liked k3 Note, smartphone which is filled with lots of professional features. Can you add a control to change screen resolution to HD for games. Lots of people are there which are thinking that other phones' gpu are better and the Mali t760 m2 not so good.

    Hi
In case someone else encounters the same problem, here is some more information.
The high refresh rate is quite visible in Device Manager. It would refresh every one or two seconds. The cause seems to be a conflict between a Fingerprint software installed during the Task sequence and the Validity Sensors Drivers.
I made a Scan for hardware change in Device manager and saw that a few devices were appearing as unknown. Right click, update drivers from local cache solved the problem.
I cancelled install of the fingerprint software and did not encounter the problem anymore.

  • 970 Gaming - BIOS resolution too big for screen so can't use it, help!

    My specs, Windows 7 SP1
    MSI 970 Gaming MB
    AMD FX-6350
    ASUS Radeon HD6950
    G Skill DDR3 RAM (16gb at 1600mhz)
    1TB Sata HD
Everything else display related works fine, windows, games, videos, etc. and as this is a new build, yes all the drivers are upto date. However, I can't use the BIOS as it displays as if its four times the screens size!
I've taken a pic to illustrate the point and attached it,
And here is of course, what it should look like for comparison,
As you can see, not only is the res' totally wrong, but some graphical elements are not displaying properly, like the lack of the red border, button surrounds on the left, boot devices missing, etc. Any ideas please?

Not every TV acts the same unfortunately.
My one samsung LCD TV looked better using a VGA cable than HDMI (no idea why, it just did), meanwhile the next Samsung LED TV I got looked much better with HDMI but had strange issues whenever I went into the BIOS (this was from a laptop though).
Expecting a company to solve a problem with a TV that doesn't properly implement the HDMI spec is a bit ridiculous to be honest.

  • New Macbook Pro 2014 for Gaming / casual use

Hello there! I currently have a 2011 13" Macbook Pro with
Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB
    16GB RAM
    500GB Harddrive
    and a 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
I really like to play video games but with this current setup ^ its very sluggish and I get very low FPS
I'm considering getting the  13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display and with the 3.0GHz Dual-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.5GHz
    My questions:
Will this computer be able to handle a constant 60fps in most games? (Borderlands 2, portal 2, Bioshock Infinite)
And I've heard other places that this computer also has a Nividia graphics card that it switches over to when you play anything that requires more than the Intel 4000 that it comes with.
    Thanks for the help!

    Hi there!
    No it wont.
Macbook Pro's hardware are mediocre for gaming. In your specific case, the 13" does not offer the possibility of a dedicated graphics card, only comes with Intel Iris. The 15" one does, the NVIDIA GT 750M with 2gb, yet it's weak for gaming above 40-50 fps, also dual-core processors are not very powerful these days either and you will most likely experience heating issues on intensive gaming sessions. If you like gaming Mac is not very efficient for it, unless you get a mac pro, but of course you would loose portability. The 27" iMac can be set with the GT 780m, it has 4gb but its still weak since its a mobile graphic chip as well, even the 5k iMac uses almost identical hardware setup than the regular iMac but with an AMD chip (also 4gb ram), while the 5k looks great with such hardware it is unable to handle smooth gaming on that resolution as well.
Dont get me wrong, I'm not here to trash Apple, at the office we work with around 8 to 10 macbook pros but none of them, not even high end ones are able to game smoothly, in fact, some games run better on windows via bootcamp than OS X.
    Hope it helps.

  • NVIDIA 8600M GT gaming with Vista: GREAT!!

    I just have to say.
After years of suffering with very few decent Mac games... FINALLY!
I made a Boot Camp partition for Windows Vista, specifically for gaming. And, let me tell you, it runs games better than my XBOX 360.
I picked up a sweet adapter for $20 that lets me use the XBOX 360 controller with my MacBook Pro. I think I almost caused a plane crash with this, due to the interference, hehe. But it's sweet!
You can run Elder Scrolls Oblivion on this laptop at 30 FPS at full resolution. Really, really not bad at all! Quite good actually!
It runs Counterstrike Source and Half Life 2 like a champ!
All the classic Windows games I never got to enjoy, finally they can run on my computer. Then switch back to Mac OS X when I want to get some music recording or photoshop done!
I have to say, I couldn't be happier with the gaming performance of this machine.. under Windows Vista anyway.
Maybe someday Apple will get their gaming act together in terms of OS X... but at least in the meantime we have this as a solution

    Maybe its not possiable.

  • 3 Monitors with 1 iMac and 2 Cinema Displays conected to Windows Gaming PC Help!

    Hi
I want to set up a 3 monitor gaming set up with 1 iMac in the middle and 2 cinema displays either side. This would be a tripple monitor set up.
I am looking to set up a new computer and i want to have 3 monitors. I also want to have an iMac so i want the iMac in the middle and two cinima displays next to each other. i Want to also conect these monitors with a Windows 7 gaming PC.
I want to hook up my very powerfull windows 7 gaming computer wich has 3 SLI GTX 560 EVGA cards. These cards have a display port output.
So i want to run 3 monitors from my gaming machine and i also want to have my iMac use the 3 monitors aswell. I also want to take advantage of the full, maximum resolution. I would get the thunderbolt cinema display monitors.
Gaming comupter has 3 display ports so i need to connect each graphics card to one of the monitors. I then need to conect the two cinema displays to the middle iMac.
I have not bought anything yet i just need to know if i can do this. Need to know stuff like what adapers to buy and what compatabilties.
I need to know if this is posible and how i would do it.
    Thanks

Could i use some of these cables?
It says they are thunderbolt conpatable.
