Gaps in text, on metro UI apps - 9860

Updated to Build 9860 and since, there have been gaps in the text in metro UI apps and the Notification Center and search,

PC Specs: (using an old PC don't wan't to put technical on my everyday pc)
Intel core i5 650 (LGA 1156)
8GB DDR3 1333MHz (2x4)
AMD HD 4350 (1GB) (possible issue cause? old drivers not supported maybe? will try a more recent gpu at a later date, preferably a last resort.)
320GB WD SATA 2'5"
I reformatted my HDD and reinstalled technical preview and the text gaps still continued, anyone got any ideas of what I should attempt?

We need to install two more Windows updates(KB3010668 and KB 3008956) after we update to Windows 10 Technical Preview.
Under PC settings-Update and Recovery- Windows Updates.
Please check if issue still insists after we install the two updates.

Looks like you didn't get a reply on your post, but it is still a problem. Font size is supposedly changeable via "Accessibility" in Settings, but it doesn't work. You can turn on "Zoom".

I am developing windows phone 8.1 silverlight app where I want to share Images,Links and text to Social Networking App Like Facebook,Twitter,Whatsapp and Instragram.
In Share content contains A Image of App Icon, A Link of App website and I invitation Text.
There are Five buttons

You cannot control what appears in the share UI. The Share UI Will show all applications that have registered to receive the type of content you are sharing. So if a particular application is not appearing, then it is not registered as a Share
target for that content type.
I would run the sample on your phone for the various content types. it should give you a good idea of which apps are registered for which content type.

ITunes opens but without any text showing. Drop down menus have text but not the app itself. I have a Mac Powerbook Pro running Windows XP under Boot Camp.

Running under Windows XP, a few upgrades ago iTunes started opening without any text showing in the application. Clicking on PLAY will play music but no text shows to indicate what's playing and no text to show music library. Drop down windows show text but not the app itself.
Subsequent upgrades and reinstalls have not corrected the problem, When I run under iOS (Snow Leopard), iTunes opens with text and runs correctly.

Because I created FAT32 partition using Boot Camp tool few days ago I installed my custom copy of Windows XP with SP3, IE7 and WMP10 integrated using nLite (for WMP10 integration use RVM Integrator). I did not use Boot Camp tool this time - I just booted CD using Option key. Then I installed Boot Camp 2.0 drivers you can find on Mac Disk 1. After this I installed Boot Camp drivers 2.1 update. In Add or remove Programs I checked drivers - I uninstalled old drivers which call identical, but you can skip this. Everything works fine BTW it is better to format your partition to NTFS - you have much less disk errors, you do not waste time for disk errors scans during Windows startup, your data are much more safe. If you need NTFS write permissions use great tool Paragon NTFS for Mac OSX or open source NTFS driver.

Why can't I get the text labels for each app to go away? I only see 9 app buttons now; used to see 30 or 40

Text labels started showing up next to my app buttons going across toolbar. Because the names are fairly long (I don't need them per se); I can now only see about 10 buttons. I made sure the the box in the toolbar preferences menu which says "show text labels for each app." was unchecked. I even tried checking it, then unchecking it.
I can't get the labels to go away. I used to be able to see and therefore USE EASILY about 30 -40 app buttons. I just downloaded the latest update to firefox 8.

I am having something similar going on and can't sort out what it is doing:

It seems like it can't find the trigger point tstaff. It is looking for:
ds_match: Searching for tstaff,automountMapName=auto.foo,dc=example,dc=edu
which isn't what the DN is in ldap:
Distinguished Name: automountKey=tstaff,automountMapName=auto.foo,dc=example,dc=edu
any thoughts?

I heard someone once talking about the NY app - it's the best selling one in the publisher's line (Conde Nast?), and they deliberately kept it as simple and "untechy" as possible - the closest in their line to the actual print edition. The discussion was on how it was surprising that the magazine with the least amount of "bells and whistles" was their best seller... and a speculation that it was because it was so simple and uncluttered. Perhaps their decision to remove pinch & zoom was related to that idea.

The relevance of Metro and Apps

It would seem a number of respondants are missing the point here.
What we are talking about here is the Enterprise version of the new O/S, not he home version. What needs to be asked is whether Metro and Apps have a place on an Enterprise PC. In my view they do not. Would I allow an image of Windows 10 with all the Apps
on it be pushed out to all my my Enterprise desktops? The simple answer is: No. They have no place there. What you want on your PC at home is your concern but when you are sitting in front of a work place PC you should be focusing on your job and not playing
with all manner of Apps.
One can argue that when creating an new image you can easily uninstall all the Apps but that is just extra work creation. I am busy enough as it is and having to remove all the unwanted Apps is just another irritation. The Enterprise version of this new
O/S should be clean and ready for distribution on the network and not full of clutter.
Besides that I think this new O/S is looking great and really folks at Microsoft, this is what Windows 8 should have looked like when it was released.

Perhaps a lot of folks - including those at Microsoft - secretly hope that somehow they can make it so Metro/Modern Apps become relevant for enterprise users.
That cuts to the core of the problem. Ignoring that most of them are games, the fact is that simple, big-font, non-cognitive-challenging Apps don't fit because life is just not that simple. People get paid to use computers to do complex
things, that need every millimeter of screen space to do (often with multiple monitors), and they need systems that don't distract them even one iota from their work.
Most corporate folks are smart enough to browse to Weather.com (or check their iPhone) when deciding whether it's nice enough outside to go out to lunch, they have Outlook / Exchange to help them manage their meeting schedules.
The stuff they use to do actual work uses 9 point fonts, if not 8.
And even though Microsoft seems to imply all the eggs need to go in the Metro/Modern basket, we don't see things like a Metro/Modern Excel, Word, Powerpoint, etc. Visual Studio is not a Metro/Modern App.
Lastly, let us not forget that "thin is in" with regard to corporate computers. Companies don't want to buy employees any more computer hardware than they need for basic work.

No, you cannot change.
The only thing you can change as a whole:
SETTINGS/GENERAL/ACCESSIBILTY/ turn on WHITE ON BLACK.
You can test to see if this one fits you. If not change it back.

Windows 8.1 Metro UI apps not starting

Hi i just recently updated to windows 8.1 from windows 8 and have had some issues, a blue screen that keeps reappearing after i play some games, seems to be the intel driver causing it, did an update but it still keeps on going to blue screen, i do have
a discrete nvidia gpu on the side, but my main problem is the metro ui which has completely stopped working, every app even the app store and setting for the account, iam only able to access it via desktop mode, some app that say they do work only show the
background color of the metro ui when pressed, but most of the apps have a little cross down in their righ corner and no image, only text.... so does anybody know anything about this? any feedback is appreciated!

Having the same problem. I setup 2 accounts before upgraded to 8.1. They are working ok.
After upgrading to 8.1, any account I setup is showing all apps with the x mark. Even the store.
Spent 3 hours with HP for support, since it's a new computer. They tried everything. Couldn't fix it. Now they want me to reset and go back to 8.0. What a waste of time.
If 8.1 is not ready yet, why did Microsoft release it? Something as basic as a Metro apps not installing is just appalling.
And this is a new HP laptop. When I was younger, I had time to fiddle around with this kind of stuff. Now, I just want stuff to work. This may force me to go buy the MAC.
BTW, already tried all options, like troublshooter, etc..

Why can't you back up your phone? Connect it to any PC with iTunes, and right click on your device. Backup should appear, and this will back up your device.
Restoring it is the best option, upon completing a backup, you won't lose any core data (such as photos). You may just want to import your photos first to a program or your computer. Then they won't be lost.

How can I use the "EvalScript()" function? I am trying to send text to a Director app from the web browser, but the console in the browser just responds "Uncaught ReferenceError: evalScript is not defined ".

I am trying to control a Shockwave app form another machine, using "Pusher" service (websockets), and everything is ok so far; but when I try to send the shockwave app the text recieved from another machine, using the "EvalScript()" function (as documented), I only get the message "Uncaught ReferenceError: evalScript is not defined" in the browser's console. What am I doing wrong?

The "alert" is working fine, but I can't get JavaScript to recognize the EvalScript (I even tried calling the shockwave object, ie: "extev01.evalScript()", since the object's ID is extev01, but it doesn't work, either).

I tried your suggestion first, using getNetText to poll the server and read a text file. The drawbak is that I had to poll the server constantly, since I could not know in advance when the text file was going to change (and it's not practical to stump the server and connection).
I've kept trying the EvalScript, asigning the Shockwave object to a variable first, then calling the EvalScript() in the object, but it doesn't work, either. I think I will simply use JavaScript and forget about shockwave altogether, since everything is working fine up to that point (although it would be nice to be able to use Lingo for the rest of the app).

Loading a text file into Terminal App

Hi,
I am trying to load a textfile into my Terminal App using the Import utility under the Shell drop down menu.
But when I try choosing the text files after clicking Import, I am unable to select a text file because they are
all greyed out. Only folders seems to be selectable.
Please help.

I have no idea what you are trying to do. What does "load a textfile" mean?
The Import… command is for importing a Terminal settings file (exported using the Export Settings… command on another computer or user).

Why does the new iOS 8.0.2 software refresh your apps if you back out to text or check another app? It's frustrating and its racking up my data charges and I really don't like it!

look I updated my phone to iOS 8.0.2 and now any time I back out of an app to text someone or check on another app it refreshes the page (if I'm on the internet) or the app and it's really annoying. If someone could please tell me how to fix this or just help get a new software up please do. It is racking up my data usage with all the refreshing and its getting really annoying and expensive.

Same issue here both with my iphone 5S as well as my iPad2. THe sync to my macbook air does not complete and it shows a large overcapacity level when connected, but once I disconnect there is plenty of room (4 GB) available, not a 20 GB overage.
