Garage band 10.0.2  adjust volume of prerecorded audio track

Just started with garage band 10.0.2.  So confusing compared to previous versions.  When I just want to work with prerecorded tracks I don't even know which of the canned options to choose.  Next I just want to adjust volume of those tracks.

To adjust the volume of a prerecorded track, drag the audio file to an empty spot of the track area, to create a new audio track with basic settings.
Then adjust the track volume slider:

  • How can I increase the volume on an audio track imported from a GarageBand project, beyond the  11

I have an audio track, mp3, originally recorded in GarageBand, but with an recording level set too low.  I've now adjusted the volume in the audio track to the max, but during playback it's still rather quiet.  I have to turn the volume on my Mac to the max to have it at an acceptable playback level.  Is the any why to increase the volume on that track any further?

  • How do i automate volume on an audio track??? why cant i figure this out.

in logic 8 i cant figure out how to automate volume for an audio track. With midi its fine i just use the hyper editor but with audio i just cant get it figured out. I want to mute the portions of a vocal track where there are no vocals.

Go to your key commands window and find out how
    to view volume automation.
Then press that button and automate away.

  • Garage band wont work, need to install midi or audio drivers?

tried backing up my comp to install OSX leopard but failed. now garage band wont work! I keep getting this message...also want to know if its possible to upgrade to osx leopard with a 4th gen macbook that runs osx 10.4.11
*garageband has detected a possible conflict between one or more third party midi or audio drivers.*
Be sure to install the latest drivers for all audio and MIDI equipment connected to your computer. For instructions on removing older drivers, consult the manufacturers' documentation.

Im having the same problem, I upgraded my IMAC and was using tiger and I upgraded it to MAC 10.5.7, now GarageBand wont work saying my midi and audio drivers arent correct. My Reason 4.0 wont start either saying the same thing failed to open the midi library. My Protools works fine but I dont know how to update the audio and midi drivers that it matches the software I uploaded. I also went to the audio midi set up and it read, Audio MIDI Setup was unable to launch the MIDI Server. This means that you will be unable to view or edit your MIDI configurations.
Improperly written MIDI drivers can prevent the MIDI Server from launching successfully. If you have recently installed a new MIDI driver, try uninstalling it and then relaunching Audio MIDI Setup. If Audio MIDI Setup works correctly after that, then please contact the driver's manufacturer for further support.

  • Change volume for whole audio track

    Hi gang,
I feel like I am missing something obvious ...
I have a stereo background noise that recurs across my sequence. It is pasted into audio tracks A13 and A14 with crossfades between each occurrence. I want to fade the volume of all of them at the same time (i.e. all of the audio clips pasted into A13 and A14). If I select all of them by dragging a box using the mouse, it does not set the volume for all of the clips, only the last
How do you change the volume for a whole track?
    Cheers!

whats more, had you already manually adjusted some clips but not others and then wanted to adjust all the clips to the same level regardless of your previous adjustment then there's really no need to remove levels attributes, or redit etc etc ... you just follow the same steps posted above, choosing "Absolute" as the Gain adjustment - all clips regardless of previous levels will be set to the absolute level you specify.

  • How to adjust volume within a single track?

I have recently purchased Logic Express 9 as I moved from a PC to MAC.If i record a single track, such as vocals, is there any way I can adjust the volume level at different places on that single track? I was able to do this very easily in Acid Pro. All I see in Logic is the ability to increase or decrease the track volume as a whole. Thanks!

To add to the tips… Make your right tool the marquee tool in Logic. Now when you are in the vocal track and in automation mode, hold Command and you'll get the Marquee tool. Drag a box around the phrase you want to adjust, release command (returning to the pointer) and click on the selection. Now you'll have 4 nodes or handles. Drag the automation line up and down to taste. I manually "compress" all my vocal tracks with an automation pass using this trick.

  • Adjusting volume on a single track ghosted.

I go to "Get Info"and try to adjust the volume on a single song but it is ghosted and i cant adjust it?

Your media files are probably read-only (the "ghosting" of volume adjust definitely happens when a media file has that setting in Windows).  To fix this:
In Windows Explorer, right-click on the folder that contains the songs that you can't adjust the volume on and select Properties
You'll see an editor like this:
Click on the Read-only box so that its clear, then click Apply.
    When you get this prompt:
leave the "Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files" choice enabled, and click OK.
You should then be able to go back into iTunes and adjust the volume as normal.
Note that you can apply this globally to everything in your library if all your media is in a common "parent" folder - just go to that folder and apply the procedure above.
There is one other possibility which could result in the same symptoms, which is that Windows permissions settings are preventing changes being made to the file(s).  If the method described above, follow the procedure described in turingtest2's notes on Repair security permissions for iTunes for Windows.

  • Does iPod Classic 6th Gen support a headphone remote for pausing/playing, adjusting volume, and advancing the track?

I know that the 7th Gen does support this feature, and my iPod video (5th Gen) does not.

    The listing for Apple's EarPods
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD827LL/A/apple-earpods-with-remote-and-mic
under Compatibility, shows it supporting back to "iPod classic 120GB (2008)."
The official list of iPods does not actually name iPods after the 5th gen model by a "gen" name, but if you look at the list
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353
it is clear which one "iPod classic 120GB (2008)" refers to.  There is an earlier "iPod classic" ("6th gen") model from 2007 that is apparently NOT supported by the EarPods.  But it's possible that Apple's older headphones with remote control works with it.

  • How do i reduce the volume of a audio track

ok you probably thought this was stupid, the title doesn't really explain the problem. So i recorded a video game gameplay and the game and voice audio are different, like on xbox you can adjust each, so voice is louder than game and vice versa. The problem is the game audio volume (lets say) is too high, and you can barely hear the voice. I don't know if its possible to do but can i lower the higher volumed game and increase the low volumed voice. i am using audition cs6

If they are overlayed then there isn't realy anything you can do. If they aren't overlaid then you can use various tools in Audition to match the volumes better. Is the game audio in stereo or mono? And is the voice in the centre if the two are mixed together as a stereo track?

  • How do you control the volume of multiple audio tracks

    Hi
I have about eight tracks of audio in my Finalcut timeline. When played, sometimes the music track will be much louder than the narration track or the FXs track will be louder than the all tracks.
How do I lower or raise the volume of tracks so that the track that needs to heard is heard.
I dont want to do an all out mix yet. I'm just building tracks
    Thanks

Select all of your audio, go to the Modify > Audio > Apply Audio Normalization. It will bring all clips in each track to be the same level. Then, later, you can do your final mix much easier.
Or go to Window > Arrange > Audio Mixing and you'll have an on-screen mixing board to work with. There's a speaker icon in the top right, green keyframing is on while you mix in realtime during playback, gray, keyframing is off.
But use the first method first, for sure. Open the audio mixer after that, you'll save yourself a ton of work and time.

  • Recording questions for garage band

Hi I thank you in advance for your help, advice or direction in assisting me correct my lack of knowledge.
I recently purchased a macbook and it came with garageband and frankly I love this program!!
I am having a little trouble though with my vocals, I am using a behringer eurorack (the small one) to phantom power my condenser mic and it's plugged directly into my macbook using the typical rca jack. I seem to be getting sort of some distorted really deep vocals out of this. Like instead of recording my energy it's more drowned out kinda layered below the beat. I am not sure what setting I should use for my mixer and the computer. I keep my lows, mids, and hi's kinda half way up on the mixer, my gain is all the way down and my mic output level is a few notches up maybe four bars or so. On garage band I have the mic volume set up almost as high as it can go. Any idea on how I can try to get my mic to sound as normal as possible? Levels you can recommend perhaps..
Man I owe you guys alot... i'm very appreciative of the help thus far.. Thank you all.

Then we've ruled out the chance that you were still recording with your internal mic (it happens more often than you'd think!)
I would suggest turning up the mids and highs if the tone is too deep. Also you should have your gain as high as you can get it without clipping (i.e. before the signal goes into your computer)

  • Voices and 2 mics with Garage Band

Kinda new to Garage Band, so I'm not sure if I have the newest one or not. But I have 2 questions regarding Garage Band:
    1. I noticed it has 3 different tracks for voices: Podcast track, male voice and female voice. Does it make any difference which is used? My husband and will soon be podcasting, and I'm not sure what the difference would be.
    2. We're contemplating purchasing headset microphones. Would a headset splitter plugged into the "line in" jack work? Or would we be better off purchasing a good quality microphone be better?
Any other tips/hints anyone has would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!
    ~L

Without seeing the interface, I don't believe you can record on the podcast track. That's for enhancement (jpg's).
However the male and female tracks can be used for lot of things, not just voicing. You can use those tracks for music and sfx's.
And you can always add tracks but using the pull down menu or clicking the big + button to create additional tracks.
I do a lot of podcasting. I'd advise you to purchase a mixer if you're using more than one mic and plan on using other outside sources of audio, such as audio recorded by mini disc or compact flash players. You can find a workable mixer for about a hundred bucks. You'll also need a digital converter to get that analog signal into your MAC.
Those things will run you around $200-300
If you're using one mic, and don't plan on any other audio sources, you can do without the digital converter, but my experience is you'll need a mic pre-amp. Those go for about a hundred bucks on up.
As for mics, you can find deals on those anywhere. The bigger houses (BSWUSA, Sweetwater and Guitar Centers) have a good selection. Again, just my experiece, but you probably want to start with a dynamic mic rather than a condenser, unless you have a real good sound proof studio. Condenser mics are 'hot' mics and pick up just about every background noise. Whether you want a headset or table/arm support mic is up to you. Again, there's a wide variety out there.
The support on this web site is terrific. You'll find a lot of good advice. Here's another one to check out: www.podsqod.com. The guy who runs it is always talking about cutting edge equipment.
Hope some of that helps...good luck!

  • M-Audio Ozone compatible with Garage Band?

I'm trying to set up a very basic setup so my father can mess with Garage Band. Does anyone know if the M-Audio Ozone is compatible with GB? I'd like to be able to use the microphone and DI inputs as well as the midi functions. Thanks for your help!

I have never used one but there should be no reason why the Midi and audio interface would not work. I don't think the control surface part will have full function, not that is a big deal.

  • Volume curve for multiple tracks?

I'm just learning to score films with GarageBand. My first snag is that I want to be able to adjust volume curves on multiple tracks without affecting the audio track of the movie. Is this possible? It's kind of a bother to have to create control points for EACH track that are all identical and then having to adjust them individually. The Master Volume doesn't help, because the movie track follows it unless there's some way to lock it out. Thanks!
Also, any good tutorials out there for scoring movies with GarageBand?

    you can not.
the only workaround i can think of would be to create a volume curve on one track, and then duplicate that track as many times as needed, and drag the regions of your other tracks into these duplicated tracks.
