Garage Band 3, Chapters lost when sharing

Using Garage Band 3, when I send songs to i-tunes the chapters are getting lost. This had been working in the past, but suddenly it doesn't. Any ideas?

Do you get a crash report?
Check it to see if any of the lines show any of your third party plugins (if you have any, that is).
Sometimes these crash, but it looks like GB crashing.
Then, you can remove the suspect ones from the corresponding VST or Component folders in Library/Audio/Plugins. Then quit and relaunch GB.
I've done lots of podcast exports and haven't seen this. it's likely something particular to your config. Check any other third-party things you might have installed.

Help! Size of garage band song too big when exported

I'm trying to share songs I've created with Garage band. For some reason they are way too large (40 - 60MB) to attach to an email and send. They shouldn't be that big, they are just average sized songs. Thats the size that they each came out when I exported it from garage band to itunes. A friend recomended a program Audacity to reduce their size (or bitrate?) but I haven't a clue as to how to use it to make my songs normal size. Is there some simple way to reduce their size so that I can send them to people?
Also, the second part of my question is I would like the songs to be in a format readable not only by Mac users but by PC users as well.
As you can see I know very little about this stuff but I really need to send these songs out, any bit of help would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou, Marc.

We get posts like this one here fairly often, and I can't understand it.
Go look at your CD collection. Every 3-minute song on any CD takes up 30 MB of file space. Every 5-minute song takes up 50MB of file space.
It's the same with GarageBand, because GarageBand records and mixes music to 16-bit, 44.1KHz two-channel stereo, just like on a CD. One minute of stereo music takes up approximately 10 MB.
Complaining that a five minute song in GarageBand takes up 50 MB is like complaining that a foot has twelve inches in it, or that a kilogram contains 1000 grams.
Use iTunes to burn your GarageBand songs to a CD in the regular audio CD format. Then mail the CD to your friends. They'll be able to listen to it on a Windows PC or a regular CD player at home or in their car.
You can use iTunes to convert your recording into an MP3 that is as small as you want it, but the smaller the end result, the poorer the audio quality.

if you are under 10.7 lion , be care to uncheck the "open as at next start up" option when you shut down
and take care to QUIT all application

Stereo in Garage Band and then Mono when mixed to iTunes or Disk

I have 3 songs that are in stereo in Garage Band and then when I mix them down to iTunes or to Disk, they come out in Mono.
What's up with this?

so you're sure that sound is coming from two speakers in gb, but anything exported doesn't? are you listening to the sound exactly the same way in both? Same speakers, or headphones, or whatever?

Chapters lost when converting movies for ipod

I have some video with chapters that when I convert them to ipod version the chapters are gone. Any reason for this?

I can't think of a reason this would happen, but I here is how to put the chapter marks back in (granted it takes a little work).

The masthead on our letterhead (Word) is a jpeg image and gets lost when shared

Rhe masthead on our letterhead (Word) is a jpeg image; the letterhead is a Word document. When we convert a letter in Word to Acrobat Standard XI and then share it, it is during the sharing when we lose the masthead but the text in the letter remains. I do not want to lose the masthead. How do I preserve it? Thank you.

It started yesterday when i open it nothing happens and when I hold done the icon it says app not responding. I just want to know is there a fix and has any one else had this problem. I have a 13' macboo pro(or aluminum)

Entire timeline covered with slanted grey bars. That portion of the project is lost when sharing as .mov What is it and how do I get rid of it?

The timeline is covered with top-to right grey lines. When I share as 29.7 .mov, that portion appears as black in the .mov.
What is it? How do I get it to go away.

If you double click on a compound clip or right click on a clip and select open in timeline in the project timeline then a new timeline opens and it will have the gray slanted lines and if you export from that timeline the gray slanted lines areas will be black in the exported file. Perhaps that is what you did. You can also right click a clip in the Browser and select open in timeline and get the same result.

Hi, I've lost all sound; keys F 3 4 and 5 only come up with a circle and diagonal bar across it. no sound in i-tunes and none in garage band or YouTube viewings

Could be many things, we should start with this...

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
Also, open Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, see the input & output options & KHz setting there, some things will change it for their own use, then not set it back.

Wrong MIDI signals in Garage Band

I bought a cheap MIDI to USB cable from eBay http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/170884868173 and connected my piano to my Macbook Air running Garage Band. It works when playing separate notes, but chords seem to play partially, not at all, or keys are played once I release them.
Here's an example from MIDI monitor (playing a C chord, then releasing):

Could this be the work of a dodgy cable? Or is there some other settings I should be looking at?

As suspected, it was the cable.
Bought Roland UM-One Mk2 USB MIDI Interface and works 100% fine.

IMovie Garage Band iTunes

Which is the best quality result for doing the above work ?
Edit in iMovie, then chapters and sound in garage band and share to iTunes in this order.

Do you have specific requirements regarding the final file container?
1) If not, then you could share your file from iMovie '08 to the Media Browser using the specific preset for your final target compression format -- e.g., iPhone, iPod, or TV. You can then open Media Browser file in GarageBand, chapter it, and Export or Share it using the "Full Quality" option. This work flow will place the chapter track, the original video, and the audio into an MOV file container which is compatible with iTunes.
2) On the other hand, if you want the final chaptered content to be in an M4V file container, you would probably do better to export the iMovie '08 project via the "Export using QuickTime" option as a high quality/high data rate compressed file, open it in GarageBand, chapter it, and then "Send" it on to iTunes using a selected target preset. This option re-compresses the audio and video and places them in the M4V file container along with your chapter track.
Note: Different file containers have different features/capabilities. For instance, if you use an internal frame as the "Poster" frame, then an MOV file would be fine here. If, on the other hand, you want to associate an external image file as your "Poster" frame in iTunes, the you would need to use an M4V or MP4 file container.

You don't have to be on WiFi, but you need an internet connection. Download it in iTunes and sync it to the iPad. The only way to download content to the iPad is via WiFi or by syncing with iTunes. Your computer can be connected to the modem with an Ethernet cable for internet access, so WiFi isn't essential but you must connect to the internet to download apps for the iPad.

I assume that by master reinstall you mean you erased the hard drive and then reinstalled the operating system. The programs will have to be redownloaded from the App store. If you bought the computer new it won't cost you anything to download them. If you purchased it used from a third party the programs belong to that person's Apple ID and you'll have to purchase them.

When I started my email a message popped up that my email is not supported with the version of the email - I was confused and went into applications and tried using the "mail.app" and then I lost my "Mail" app on my dock and now there's no way for me to get my emails or find the app to load back on my dock. Could someone please help me??

If your Mail app is no longer inside your Applications folder, use Spotlight to locate the application. Once you find it, place the application back inside the Applications folder. Then drag the original Mail app to the dock & let go. The Mail app should now appear in the Dock.

HT5537 How do you import/export garage band projects using the latest version of iTunes when there is no apps in the left column to select garageband?

I am perfectly aware of how to do this using the old version of itunes.
however i just got a new macbook pro retina... and it came with the latest version of itunes.
and i was trying to import/export garage band files between my ipad and mac via itunes.
and the option for apps, that is usually on the left side where you can then select garage band from in itunes, isnt there in the new version of itunes.
has anyone got a work around for this?

Nic, for me the iTunes window looks like this, when I connect my iPad 3:
I select the iPad in the "devices" section of the Sidebar (use: "View > Show Sidebar" if the sidebar is hidden).
Click the "Apps" tab in the "Devices" pane.
Scroll all the way down in the Devices pane to "File Sharing" "Apps" section.
Then do I click "GarageBand" to select the documents in the right panel.
Which part is different for you? Perhaps you could post a screenshot?
