Garage Band audio with digital AV adapter

When I connect my iPad 2 to the TV via the optional HDMI digital AV adapter, the audio signal from most apps and system sounds is transferred to the TV via the HDMI link - ie I can hear the audio on both the iPad and the TV. The exception is with Garage Band - the audio from this app does not seem to export to the TV. I've searched in the General audio settings and the audio set up of Garage Band, but I can't find anything related to this. Surely there must be a way of configuring this great app so the the audio is exportable?

You need to turn on the 'AirPlay-Bluetooth-HDMI' option in setup within GarageBand. Then it will work.

  • Need to rescue Garage Band Files with Data Rescue II - what kind of files?

    Hi all -
After a particularly gruesome computer crash, I am trying to reconstruct my lost files using Data Rescue II..... This program goes into the damaged hard drive and downloads all intact files it can find, but it is NOT able to label everything correctly. All it can do is divide things into folders - Audio files, document files, images, mail, misc., and movies. And within these folders are other folders - for instance, in the "Audio" rescued folder, there are hundreds of AIFF files, AIFF1 files, AIFF2, MP3, WAV, m4a, and m4p files.
My question is: can someone please tell me what the heck a Garage Band project file is? That would save me a lot of time in digging through all this material trying to find one....
(Don't get me wrong... I'm grateful to have stuff to dig through! I just hope my Garage Band files are intact and recoverable.)
Has anyone had success saving Garage Band files with Data Rescue II?
    Thanks in advance.

    Aaaagh!
I spoke too soon. Yes,I did indeed find the file that contained all the files I needed to retrieve (using Disk Rescue II). When my 6-hour download of the 78 GB folder finished, I check the files again, and they weren't located in the orphaned section, but in the Hard Drive section under the normal directory, in a folder called .Trashes - within that there was another folder called "501", which contained all the Garageband files I needed to retrieve. However, when I tried to open the downloaded "rescued" files, they were inside a folder called "Macintosh HD", which could not be opened, and I got a message that said "Could not be opened because you do not have sufficient access privileges." Not only that, but even after 6 hours of (apparently) downloading the 78 GB folder, my hard drive, which had close to 83 GB of free space, said STILL had almost that same amount.
So did it download anything or not? What was it doing all those 6 hours? I have a file that I can't open, but apparently it's going to be empty anyway.
Here's the full story, for anyone with the patience to listen and offer advice. It looks like now I'm looking for a way to 1) get the permissions to open the .trashes file so that I can download everything, or 2) figure out a way to get Disk Rescue II to open the files and download them regardless of the permissions.
    Full Story -
I am pretty sure that my computer crash was caused by working with the newest version of Garageband 08. Ever since buying it and loading it, my computer has been acting funny whenever I use the Garage Band program - I could only record about one in three attempts since the computer kept freezing as soon as I finished recording a line. I would have to use force restart to get going again.
The day the computer crashed, I was working on a Garage Band project, which kept crashing, and I was also using Finale, Microsoft Word, and iTunes -- all of which are my normal procedure and I'd never had any problems with anything before loading the new Garage Band 08. (See my posts on other discussion topics for more details). After the last freeze, the computer crashed totally and could not be restarted - it would get to the gray screen with the spinning gear and just sit there while the fans ramped up to overload.
I used Disk Warrior to rescue whatever files I could onto an external hard drive, and I started to download all the Garage Band files. However, the "estimated time to completion" said over 6 hours , so I stopped the download after a minute or so and went on to rescue all the other files that were smaller in size and easier to download - I figured I'd set Disk Warrior to download the whole 78 GB set of Garage Band files overnight while I slept. But....when I went back to begin the download again, I noticed that the directory of Garage Band files went only to the letter "C" instead of all the way to "Z" like my original files had done during that earlier attempt to download. I am assuming that somehow, the directory for the files I download before aborting the attempt (A-C) got exchanged with the directories of the original version (A-Z), but the original directory was no where to be found.
I decided to try an archive install in the hopes that I could just restart my computer and get the files out by hand. The archive install went fine, and the computer started up fine and got to the log-in screen, which had changed. I now had two blanks - one for user name and one for password, instead of the choices of names. I tried all my user names and passwords, and asked my wife for her names and passcodes, but nothing worked. The computer had apparently re-set all its permissions and User accounts. I tried using Disk Utility to reset the password in its opening screens, but instead of getting several User options, the only one it allowed me to attempt was "System Administrator (root)", and even that wouldn't let me in to change any passwords.
That's when I downloaded Data Rescue II, which does seem to do a good job of locating lost files. However, since I didn't have permissions to open the computer the last time, I am still apparently facing the same thing when I try to access files copies OFF the computer.
So I'm not out of the woods yet. I can see the files on the Data Rescue screen, but I don't know whether they have permissions tied to them or not, and if they do, whether the system would let me since I don't know what the passwords and user names have defaulted back to.
    Any advice? Please?

have a sony bravia 26M4000, this model are compatible with digital av adapter to use with ipad2

What ports are on the Sony?  The digital adapter should work with an HDMI port.
If the Sony does not have an HDMI port, there are also VGA, Composite and Component AV adapters available from Apple.
There is some additional info at <http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4108>.

  • Can I use Garage Band JamPacks with Soundtrack 1.5?

Can I buy Garage Band JamPacks and use them in Soundtrack 1.5, with full functionality? Like genres, styles, mood, etc...
The reason I ask is because the website says they work with Soundtrack Pro, but doesn't mention 1.5.
    Thanks!

    hey there,
    yes, you can.
Browser tab >Mac HD >Library >Audio >Apple loops >Apple Loops for GarageBand, SoundTrack & iLife Sound Effects. pick one of the 3. also if you have user loops you can access them & also i think put some GB loops into Favorites tab.

  • Garage Band Audio Drivers

After Upgrading my OS to 10.5.8 from 10.4.1 I am unable to run Garageband '08. When I try to play one of my old projects the following message appears:
! GARAGE BAND HAS DETECTED A POSSIBLE CONFLICT BETWEEN ONE OR MORE THIRD PARTY MIDI OR AUDIO DRIVERS. BE SURE TO INSTALL THE LATEST DRIVERS FOR ALL AUDIO AND MIDI EQUIPMENT.
Can someone please tell me what the latest drivers are and what is a reliable place to acquire them.
I did download and installed PACE drivers, which I believe allow you to open protected files.
    Thank you.
    RL

Thanks for the prompt reply  Cristoph. That is exactly what I did. It turns out there were a few prior discussions
regarding this issue, all advocating for the same method:  I went to the Library folder,  took out both Digidesign drivers from the Audio Midi Folder created a new folder within the Library and dumped them into it.
Voilå!! Garage Band works again! Thank you.

  • Where can I purchase garage band compatible with os 10.6.8

My imac has os 10.6.8 and cannot be upgraded. Where can I purchase garage band that is compatible with os 10.6.8?

If in addition to garageband you want the full version of iDVD (if you no longer have iDVD on your Mac), then purchase iLife '09 from a source like Amazon.
In addition to GarageBand, if you do not need iDVD or, at least not the full version of iDVD, then purchase iLife '11 from Amazon.
When you install, you need to do a custom install to only install GarageBand alone, and/or install both GarageBand AND iDVD

  • Delays w garage band live with external USB mike

I'm using  an external USB mike into a Macbook pro with garage band running as recommended with monitor on. (Mac's earphone port  cabled to input of a Marley  "Get together") After  anywhere between 7-15 minutes a delay occurs. When initially investigating this set-up, I did notice someone dealing with such delays. Could someone please put me to rights? Bern

It will be a little clearer. Play around with the mic position to see if you can minimize the background sound. I believe the six "ticks" you heard were the count-in. You can turn that off via the Control menu.

  • Lost garage band audio files

i recorded a very important gig last night, and i was trying to arrange the audio into sections, and i cut a few pieces out, knowing i could just undo and get them back. unfortunately, i saved my piece, with those audio files cut out, and now there gone. is there any way possible i can get that audio back?

if you only removed parts of a region, you can just drag the edges back. any region you completely removed, and then saved, is gone.

  • How do i save a previously saved garage band file with an ilife preview to export it to imovie? Using the latest garageband

    Help me ASAP plz!!!

Hi, you have to open the song file in GB, and use the menu option “Share/Media Browser”.  GB will bounce the song and create a song preview that will be stored in the song file package.  The song file MUST be stored in the /Music/GarageBand/ folder, to appear in the iMovie “Content Library/GarageBand” screen.

  • Garage Band 3 audio into to Imovie HD?

I am not able to export Garage Band 3 audio saved for use in a podcast into iMovie 6.0.1. I would think that this would be possible because both are part of the iLife Suite. Does anyone know any way to get Garage Band audio into an iMovie? Specifically, I am trying to get a recorded voice from Garage Band into iMovie.
    Thanks,
    Lou

Thanks for the help. Importing into iTunes worked as you suggested. I don't know what I was thinking - - when I saw import to iTunes I thought, mistakenly for some dumb reason, that my track would automatically go to the iTunes music store if I saved to iTunes. I MUST get more sleep.

  • Yamaha KX61 USb MIDI keyboard doesn't work in Garage Band

I have installed latest Yamaha USB-MIDI driver V1.2.0 for Yamaha KX61.
I have connected USB cable to Mac Mini and turned the keyboard on.
In Other section of System Preferences I can see an icon for Yamaha USB-MIDI. In there I can see Device Name: Yamaha KX.
Yamaha KX61 is visible in Audio MIDI Setup utility under Midi Devices tab with Port 1, 2 and 3.
In GarageBand application Audio/MIDI preferences it shows "3 MIDI inputs detected" but Audio Input gives 2 choices only: System Setting and Built-In Input.
When I turn Keyboard off, Garage Band responds with message "The number of MIDI inputs has changed. Now no input is available." And then it shows MIDI status: 0 MIDI Input(s) detected.
When I turn Keyboard on, Garage Band responds with message "The number of MIDI inputs has changed. Now 3 inputs are available." And then it shows MIDI status: 3 MIDI Input(s) detected.
I don't understand how to get the keyboard play with Garage Band when adding new software instrument tack.
If anybody able to use KX61 in Garage Band, please share your experience.

Hope its ok to answer you own question.
Just buy the Apple "Lightning to usb camera adapter".  Plug it into the ipad 4 and plug your usb male A cable from the midi keyboard into it and fire up the apps.  Works fine--I just tested it.  You must have a keyboard or other usb device that requires very little or no power from the usb port in order to work.  Also, it must not require a usb driver.  See iosmidi.com/devices for a list of devices that should work.
A lot of investigation (not on any apple site) allowed me to glean out this information.

  • Use garage band sounds in other applications?

I've never had any need to use Garage Band, but have heard that the sounds are good... is there a way to use Garage Band sounds with a DAW, specifically, Digital Performer?
    Thanks

What do you men with sounds?
    Apple Loops
Apple Loops are just aiff file with additional metadata. You can even play them in iTunes. However I heard that DP can utilize the Tempo Match and Key Match feature.
    Plugins
GarageBand support two Plugin standards. AU Plugins and Logic-Plugins. GarageBand doesn't come with any AU-Plugins only Logic Plugins but DP doesnt support them, they are an Apple proprietary format.
    Drummer
The drummer is nothing other than a sophisticated EXS24 Sampler (a Logic Plugin), therfore no support in DP. If you have a lot of time on your hand, you can access the individual audio samples and build your own sampler that can be used in DP.
    Settings
All the other sound settings are just settings files that are only compatible inside the Apple ecosystem of audio apps (GarageBand, Logic, MainStage)
This ecosystem comes in handy when moving between those apps. Now you can create sounds and settings in Logic and use them in GarageBand or MainStage. Here is screenshot from my new GarageBand book "GarageBand X - How it Works" that illustrates that ecosystem
    Hope that helps

  • Is garage band included on 10.6 OS and hdmi display issues?

Imac, 17 inch display, 2.0 GHz, 1GB ram two issues.  Can I connect an hdmi second display (hidef tv) through the thunderbolt port and does garage band come with OS 10.6.  Can't find garage band anyplace and the second display when plugged in to an aftermarket thunderbolt to hdmi adapter sees the hdmi display but won't mirror.  I have a clean install of 10.6 and can't get past these two issues. Any help please.

Here's the issue.  I can only get 3 meg d/l speed and that drops to as low as .5 meg at times.  I can link my MacBook Pro to an hdmi hi def 1080 thru a Devi connector and all works fine.  I run Netflix and the MacBook buffers the content so if the speed lags the show doesn't stop.  I came across this iMac and was hoping to do the same thing.  I bought an Apple TV 2 nd gen and it just stops and stalls due to no buffering.  So that's not working.  If I can connect the iMac to the larger Vizio with hdmi inputs, 1080 hi def I would allow the iMac to run my Netflix and not ruin here MacBook by letting it run continuously.  I used the MacBook on a smaller 14" and the 26" Vizio with no problems.  The iMac won't see either one though in sys prefs it does show the display but won't mirror.  If you, for some reason, just cannot answer the question, just let me know, I appreciate all your help.  I am at a loss but feel certain there is a way to do this.

  • Skype, Soundflower, and Garage Band

I am trying to record podcast with some people around the country, so that put me with iChat, now I can't talk to people on iChat that are on AIM on a pc, so that's out.
So now I turn to Skype and Soundflower. Soundflower let's me take the audio from the Skype conversation and send it to Garage Band and let's me hear while it till send to Garage Band. Now when I do this I either have Garage Band hearing only me, or only the Conversation without me.
So I said well if Garage Band can have multiple inputs then I can have a track that will be the Skype and a Track that will be my Microphone and it will work great. Now I don't know Garge Band well enough to know how to do this, that is why I aam here.
    Settings:
    Skype-
    Audio Output: Soundflower (2ch)
Audio Input: AK5370 (That's my USB mic)
    Garage Band-
    Audio Output: Built-In Audio
    Audio input: Soundflower (2ch)
    Soundflower-
    Soundflower (2ch)>
    Channel 1: Built-In Audio [2]
    Channel 2: Built-In Audio [2]
    Soundflower (16ch)-
    None (Off)
So that there gives me great sound from the Skype conversation(without me). So as I said before I need a way for Garage Band to have another input for me on a seperate track.
    Thanks< Kyle/MicroJupiter

I have no familiarity with either Skype or SoundFlower (other than knowing what the both are), but here's an off the cuff - out of the box - thought.
Does SoundFlower appear to OS X as a virtual Hardware Device?
What I'm thinking, if it does, is that you could create an Aggregate Device in Audio MIDI Setup utility that consists of your 5370 and Skype

  • Recording in Garage Band

    Hello,
I can record into GB using my Mac's built-in mic, but when I try to record with an external mic, using a Tascam US-122, although the GB meters show that GB is hearing the sounds, it will not record the sounds. I have downloaded the updated drivers for OSX 10.3 from the Tascam web site, but Tascam doesn't seem to offer any more recent update than that. I am running OSX 10.4.7. Is this version of the OS just too new, or am I missing some technical detail/work around? Thanks.

    Hi,
    Thanks for the feedback.
Yes, Tascam US-122 shows up in the Garage Band Audio input and output, as well as in the Sound I & O selections in System Prefs. Negative on Intel. I am using an aluminum G-4 PowerBook with 2 GB of RAM and no other apps open when I am in Garage Band. I am running OSX 10.4.7.
I am now getting a tiny bit of audio output on playback when I record into Garage Band, but only if I turn the output volume up to 11 on the Tascam unit. However the fault seems neither to be the Tascam itself, nor the external vocal mic (a Carvin knock-off of a Shure SM 58). All of the wiring, the connections and the powered speakers are functioning perfectly. If I turn the monitor on and sing or speak into the mic, I get all the volume I could ever ask for out of the speakers, with fine clarity and no static, etc. that might indicate faulty wiring or loose connectors. But when I record into GB with the record levels turned all the way up in the System Prefs Sound pane, Garage Band, and on the US-122, the playback comes out barely audible...even though all the VU meters are maxing out when I record, and the playback level is going off the scale during playback. Any ideas? I am flummoxed.
