I have a MacBook Air and don't know how to get rid of clicking sound when making a recording, would REALLY appreciate help with this.

Garage Band: Quicktime sound vs. iTunes sound

I created a song in Garageband (it sounds fine there). I exported it to disk. If I play the file in Quicktime Player, it sounds great -- exactly as it did in Garage Band. However, if I import it into iTunes and play it there, it is pretty badly distorted; lots of clipping and super heavy bass.
I am not using ANY EQ in iTunes.
Does anybody know why Quicktime would play the file normally, but iTunes (which I imagine uses Quicktime) would distort it so badly?

Thanks for the reply! I checked all of those things: no Sound Enhancer, no Sound Check and EQ set to "none."
It's weird ... it's like iTunes brings the track in too "hot."
I have found that if I drop the volume (on the track, not the main iTunes volume) down to -80 and turn on Sound Check, the track sounds just like it does in Garage Band and Quicktime Player.
This has got me stumped.

Leapord inflicted glitch with Garage Band

I discovered what appears to be another OS 10.5.1 bug yesterday.
I tried to share something I recorded in Garage Band (clicked Share, Export Song to Disk...) and the exported song totally vanished.
After several attempts to export a song and find it again, I finally gave the song a ONE WORD name, and that worked.
The only special characters I used in the exported file name were quite legal characters: a space and a dash.
This freaks me out a bit. If the file system is going to choke on these names, will I lose critical data and not realize it until I go looking for it?
Is there a proper way and place to report what appear to be OS 10.5.1 bugs?

I don't think so. Please see attached. It shows Track 4, for example, as input from mono. There is nothing on any of the tracks that indicate they are stereo. And on other songs it's not a problem.

Exporting vinyl from Garage Band to iTunes

I am recording vinyl into Garage Band,adding sound effects , splitting into individual songs and attempting to export to iTunes . The result is a single "file" , rather than the desired multiple files . I have attempted this working with multiple "regions" on a single "track" , and also splitting the "regions " on to individual "tracks" . Can't come right! am I attempting the impossible, or is there someone out there who can save my sanity.

The result of an export from GB will always be one sound file. Whether you have all your songs on one track or on several tracks - youll have to export them one by one, either by soloing the tracks or setting the export region with the yellow cycle ribbon.
Only exception: If you want to burn a CD directly from GB, you can use the podcast markers to mark the individual songs, and they will be burned to separate CD tracks.

I'm Just wondering how to make drum beats in garage band using the sounds it comes with? Also how can i use garage band like a drum machine which i can program an entire song part by part????

I'm new to using Garageband and loops with garage band. I just wanted to see if there was a way for me to use the drum sounds provided in garageband to create my own original drum tracks and work with it like a drum machine that i can program an entire song into... any info or tutorials would be a great help.. Ah ok, I have a better idea of what you want to do now.
Unfortunately there isn't anything inside GB that can come anywhere close to Acoustica Beatcraft, but there are two tools inside Garageband that can help you do something similar.
First are the built-in keyboards, which will enable you to trigger drum samples with your computer keyboard or mouse. Go to Window -> Keyboard or Window -> Musical Typing. Click with your mouse on the Keyboard or press keys on your computer keyboard with Musical Typing, and you will trigger different drum samples for whatever kit you've chosen for that software track.
Next is the Track Editor: in Piano Roll mode, you can create and see midi notes somewhat similar to the view in this screenshot from AB. On the left side of the Editor, you will see a sideways piano keyboard. When you assign a drum kit to a software track, each of the piano keys corresponds to a different instrument: hi hat, snare, bass drum, etc---you'll have to play them using the on-screen keyboard or musical typing to see what they correspond to. In order to add a MIDI note you hold the CMD button and click with the mouse.
So, if you wanted to add a closed hi-hat hit, you would CMD-click on the Track Editor row corresponding to the closed hi-hat piano key, and then you can drag the MIDI note left & right to change the beat it plays on, or resize the note, which will change its duration.
Or, as you've already observed, you can use Musical Typing to play out a pattern on your computer keyboard while recording, and you will see the midi notes appear in real time in the Track Editor.

Well, all I can tell you is that if your file is an m4a with chapter markers, those markers having suitably sized images attached, and you drag it into the Music area of iTunes (so that it appears as a song) in List view, when you play it and then command-click on the small image in the header (next to the progress bar) you should see your embedded images.
If this isn't happening the best place to ask would be in the GarageBand forum: my own experience of GB is rather out of date and in any case I've never used it for podcasting.

Hi, I've lost all sound; keys F 3 4 and 5 only come up with a circle and diagonal bar across it. no sound in i-tunes and none in garage band or YouTube viewings

Could be many things, we should start with this...

5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
Also, open Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, see the input & output options & KHz setting there, some things will change it for their own use, then not set it back.

Garage band (2.0.2) and MIDI - weird sound problems

hi, i have just bought a new keyboard (Yamaha PSR 450), as well as a USB-to-MIDI cable, to connect my keyboard to my mac, for garage band. the cable is "m-audio midisport UNO" (MIDI IN/MIDI OUT-to-USB).
when i connect my keyboard to my mac, open up garage band and try to play or record and play, the sounds coming out of garage band are weird. the track was the default software track (piano), but when i played, only about 30% of what i played came out right, the rest was either this (very) high-pitched piano sound or nothing at all, and at random intervals too, e.g. i press 'middle c', and no sound comes out my computer, i press it again, this time it plays, but high-pitched. i press it again, now it plays right etc. etc. there doesn't seem to be any pattern. also, most of the time when it actually played the 'middle c', once i let go, the sound continued for ages, like i had a huge sustain on or something.
what's more weird is, if i have a recording on my keyboard (it has 6 tracks) and press play, the sound comes out perfect on garage band, so it's just when i play "live".
I've been messing around with settings on both my keyboard and mac, but nothing seems to work.
i read in the Yamaha manual that if the USB - MIDI cable is longer than 15ft, there can be "noise and data errors". this sounds exactly like what im getting, but the cable is not 15ft. its about 7-8ft. maybe the cable is low-quality? it cost me £32! -_-
any info or help would be extremely appreciated.

i downloaded the latest driver, but it still has the same problems.
maybe my MIDI setup is wrong.
when i open my MIDI setup panel in the utilities folder, it has:
IAC Driver (don't know what this is, can't really change anything anyway)
Network (again, i don't know what this is for, i havent touched anything)
USB Uno MIDI Interface. i can't change any info on this either, but i clicked it and then pressed "Test Setup" and this short continous bleep noise went off, untill i clicked "Test Setup" again to turn it off. im guessing this means it's working?
i even double checked that the MIDI IN/OUT plugs were in the right sockets in my keyboard!
either garage band doesn't properly support my keyboard or the cable
or
the cable is low-quality and i need to get the recomended yamaha one.
i cant think of anything else that could be wrong. of course i know next to nothing about MIDI so there may be loads of things i have not figured out yet.
are there any free/demo MIDI music software for mac i could download to test it?

To resolve the issue:
Quit GarageBand.
Open the Mac App Store.
Sign in using the Apple ID you used to set up the computer.
Click the Purchases tab.
Click the Accept button next to GarageBand.
Open GarageBand.
You should now be able to make in-app purchases.

Try this: Go to your menu bar, select "Garageband" and then "Restore Sound Library..."
It can take awhile to download as it's a pretty big library. You might need to also select "Update Sound Library..." after the restore is done.

In Garage Band on iPAD, is there a way to make each key on the keyboard play a different sound effect?

I'd like to be able to play a number of selected sound effects using the keyboard in Garage Band. I've figured out how to import audio tracks from my itunes library into a track in Tracks View.

GarageBand on iPad does not have the SoundEffects instruments, that GarageBand on Mac has.
The closest you can get to this on your iPad will be the "Sampler" instrument. You can record a sound sample and play it using the "Sampler" instrument and adjust the pitch.
But you cannot assigne different samples to different keys.

How to get full sound library for Garage Band

I recently purchased the upgrade for Garage Band on my 06 iMac. I received a huge library of sounds with the upgrade. However, two days later, we had a power spike and I lost that computer. So - I bought a New MacBook Pro Retna with the latest version of Garage Band on it, however, it is missing what seems likes hundreds of real instrument sounds. Any suggestions? Can't seem to find a way to downlod all thode extra great sounds like strings and sound FX.

What kind of upgrade did you buy? Jam Packs for GarageBand, like "Symphony Orchestra"? They are not included in the preinstalled version that comes with a new mac.

Are loops missing or instruments? If loops are missing, do they appear to greyed out in the loop browser? If they are greyed out, have you pressed the little arrow to the right of the loop name, to download the additional content?
To be able to download the additional content, you have to accept the preinstalled iLife to your AppleID at the AppStore. Sign into the AppStore, go to the "Purchased" tab - "Accept" section, and press the "Accept" button for your iLife apps.

Thanks for that. Much more constructive than the last comment. It's only the restriction code I can't recall, not the access passcode. So I can currently access the device, just not age restricted content. Does that's make a difference? I also wondered if anyone knew how many attempts you get to try to get it right. Now tried 21 times and so far nothing bad has happened but I am concerned I'll eventually be completely locked out of the device. That doesn't seem in the spirit of things though. Surely it's foreseeable that a child could repeatedly try to guess the code so I can't see that it would be right to lock the device down completely in that circumstance, particularly if the access code is being typed in correctly every time.
