Garage Band crashes upon bootup
Just bought a new MacBook Pro 15". I went to boot up and it crashes. Over and over again. Anybody know what gives? You'd think a new computer with the latest Mac OS (10.5.1) would work like a charm with MAC software. Wrong.

HT1338 why does garage band crash suddenly
Two times in the last month garage band crashed when recording was stopped. Any suggestion as to what may be the cause?
When does it ask you? When you are sharing a song to iTunes? Then it will use this information to auto-fill the artist data.

Garage Band Crashed - any way to get recording back?
Hello. I just recorded a 50 min podcast and upon stopping recording, I got a Garage Band error box that said something to the effect of "2gb file size reached. File will be saved to this point." Then I clicked OK, but the program crashed.
1. Is there any way to retrieve recorded audio files in ANY way? I also edit with Final Cut and I know that even if that crashes, the video is still in capture scratch/render folders, even if the project isn't saved, so I'm hoping there's something I can retrieve for this recording.
2. Is there a way I can auto-save while recording? I've recorded 50+ 50-60 min podcasts now (only saving 10 episodes in a single project file) and never had this problem, so now I don't trust my Mac for future recordings after losing this.
Other project files I have saved are 4-5gb each, so I don't even understand this "2 gb" limit. FYI: I have 83 GB available on my Mac, so it's not a file-size issue.
Very frustrated and disappointed in my Mac. Any help is appreciated. Thanks much...Found a Solution...

In short, right click your crashed project file, then select "Open Package Contents." Recorded audio is in .AIF files.
YAY! Thanks. -
Garage band crash at start up (2.0)
hi. i have a power pc ibook g4 1'42 ghz with 1.5 Mb ram. usually i work with logic pro & ableton live, but sometimes i prefer to start a project with an idea on garage band.
suddenly, the application started to crash, with no apparently reason. the only thing i remember is i installed some audio units plug-in pack before that happened, but i do not know if due this plug-in pack maybe the garage band stop to work. i've tried to uninstall manually the app. and reloaded again but nothing change, the application continues crashing down. i have send a report to apple in this matter, but i like to know your opinion as users. thanks so much, greetings from barcelona, spain.
G4 ibook Mac OS X (10.4.4)Garageband is stable in all versions of X. The plugins are probably your problem. They are usually installed here:
Macintosh Hardrive/Users/(your user name)/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins
Check under the corresponding folder. (VST, AU, components, etc.) Try moving the plugins out of the folder and see if GB starts up normally. Place them back in one by one to determine which one is the culprit.
Expired demos are often a problem.

Does Guitar Rig 3 work in Garage Band v1?
Under mac osx 10.4 (G5 with dual 2.5 cpus), I can select Guitar Rig as an AU but then Garage Band crashes.
One time it crashed, I chose 'Try Again' and when I selected the Guitar Rig, the GR interface came up without the amp profiles (which I manually imported); it still bugged out and did not produce any sound or work at all.
Should I upgrade my os to 10.4.11 and get the new iLife '08 for the latest Garage Band. I really love the Guitar Rig. I had the Mesa Recording pre-amp and the sim sounds 'exactly' like it.
TIAIn what way?

Blue Yeti / Garage Band / MBP-retina / No audio upon second take.
Hi:
I have a 2012 MacBook Pro retina display (Build 12A269) running OSX 10.8. In "Garage Band" I can record a track using the Blue Yeti with success. Upon play-back of that track I hear no audio. If I then unplug the Blue Yeti from the laptops USB I get the option to "Use Built-in Audio". I select that option. If I then play the track (third attempt) it will successfuly play.
I've done a test with another microphone, the Apogee MiC. With this mic connected (USB - same port) I have no issues. I can record and play-back that track with success.
Can anyone help me get my Blue yeti working?
Thanks
PS: I've made sure that my computer has been updated by searching for updates. None were found.Sure thing, I can help. The problem is that Garageband sees the Blue yeti as an source to output audio when the mic is connected. Here is the fix.
1. Open Garageband.
2. Connect the Blue Yeti.
3. Click your pointer on "Garageband" that is next to the small apple logo at the upper-left on the screen.
4. A dropdown will appear. Click your pointer on "Preferences"...
5. ...then "Audio/Midi"...
6. ...then "Audio Output".
7. Selct the "Built-in Output" option.
If you need more help email me. [email protected] -
Garage Band = ever since update, CRASH when I select SNOWFLAKE mic! Ideas?
I have done a repair permissions (nothing wrong)...
But ever since installing the iLife update, when I start garage band with mic connected, it says SYSTEM SETTINGS for AUDIO IN and OUT, if I choose Snowflake, I get the spinning ball, then crash, no matter what.
I disconnected my high end firewire audio interface, I uninstalled iHear, and all that's left is snow flake and the soundflower driver for iSHOWU as well as Macbook Pro mic / speakers.
If I boot to external 10.5.2 it's fine.
I have the problem with 10.5.4 and the latest update. Not sure if LOGIC is going to give me a problem or not. I have a feeling with all the snafu's and fun stuff of mobile me and new updates (what was I thinking) that somehow this messed up the system.
Is there a way to uninstall the update? What would happen if I moved GARAGE BAND PREFERENCES, PROGRAM, APPLICATION support from 10.5.2 folders to 10.5.4 folders? Remeber the days when you could just drag something to the trash and that would solve the problem?
Anyway, was just getting ready to really make 10.5.4 the NEW home, now I am not so sure as another snafu that shows up every once in a while is when I launch ADOBE it always says the program was moved and I have to repair, I never had to do that.
Anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong?
I really want to solve this and have no idea on how to do this.
Macbook Pro 10.5.4, 2GB RAM, Santa Rosa 256MB GPU,
Thank you..WOW.
I have the same problem. I have a USB mic and ever since iLife update whenever I plug it in, and then choose in preference, GB crashes. Wonder if anyone knows or is GB not PRo enough that the users are mostly consumers and non tech and non pro users? I would think its pretty big as I know a full time FOLEY dude and while he uses PT he loves GB (logic more) but still like GB and I think GB is like KING of Podcasting. Is there something maybe we can try to pod cast instead of GB?
I need help to as there us no undo in system install updates except TIME MACHINE which I think I really need to look into now, especially after having problems like this.
Surely someone must know what to do, try, explore?
Thank you -
Garage Band 4.1.1 Crashes
Yesterday I downloaded and installed Garage Band 4.1.1 after reading at iLounge about its support for making custom ringtones for the iPhone and exporting them to iTunes. I followed my usual routine when downloading updates through Software Update - repair permissions, download and install, repair permissions. Today I tried to make a ringtone following the ten-step instructions at iLounge and could not get beyond the main Garage Band window for more than a few seconds before it crashes unexpectedly. I restarted several times, repaired permissions again, tried beginning a new project, opening an existing project (the one I named and saved from trying to start a new one), but nothing works. It crashes within seconds of opening its main window each and every time.
After talking to a Mac friend of mine later today, I went looking for, downloaded, and installed iLife Support 8.1.1, of which I was not previously aware. Still no change - crash, crash, crash.
The crash report for sending to Apple, among a LOT of other things I don't understand, says "Exception: EXCBADACCESS (0x0001) Codes: KERNPROTECTIONFAILURE (0x0002) at 0x00000000 Thread 0 Crashed:"
I have no idea what that means.
I upgraded to this Mac Pro in mid-October from my old 733 mHz G4 and this is the first problem I have encountered. This is also the first time I have tried to use Garage Band, which came pre-installed on the computer along with the other iLife '08 applications, so whatever is crashing it could have been present in the 4.1 version before I installed 4.1.1 for all I know.
Does anyone out these know what is going on and what I might do to fix this?
Thanks in advance for any help.

HT4939 My garage band app crashes when I try to edit a song.
My garage band app crashes when I try to edit a song. This happens several time on a variety of songs. I turned off my apps, deleted and reinstall the app, turn off my ipad, did a hard reset, and took it to the Genius Bar. Still having problems. It's annoying because I have to re-record a song.
I could always use more storage. I only have a 16 gb ipad mini with retina display. Current, I only have 2.3 gb left. Maybe that might be. The problem. This problem only happens on newer projects. The old ones are fine.
I don't do anything different from old projects to new ones. I use the iRig adapter to plug my bass guitar into the iPad when I'm laying down bass tracks. I use the drums and other instruments from the garage band and use the iPad mic to record my guitar parts (I only have an classical guitar without pickups).
I don't use 3rd party apps or loops. Nothing is really looped. I recorded everything straight through. From drums, I don't loop. I change the beat every so often and do different fills. So if I make a mistake somewhere I would re-record everything from scratch. Same goes for the other instruments.
I appreciate your time and support with my problem. :). -

My garage band app has crashed & keeps returning to the main screen when I try to open it... I've tried most of the trouble shooting chart (no updates available, tried restarting app, restarted device) all I have left is to re-install the app... My main fear is that if I do this I will lose a load of recent projects that are saved to the app that I've spent the last few days creating... Help...
I have tried all those things I even updated the software to the new iOS system and it still did fix my problem.
What happened is that my garage band looks like it will open then it shuts down.
I have lot of important things on my garage band and I'm afraid that if I uninstall it deleting it then reinstalling it all my work on it will be gone and I can't have that happen.
Everyday I am hoping that when i go to open the app that is will work but it doesn't it gets ready to turn on then it shuts off , the app doesn't even open all the way and turns off.
I really hope I don't have to erase it.
It'll say it's ,lading my songs then it shuts down .
If I waited for the App Store to come up with an update for garage band should I wait till then to update my app so it doesn't get damaged . I don't want to erase it and all my data get erased . I figured if I wait for an update then my garage band will reset itself but won't delete my data. I'm not sure if that will help. Is there anything you or anyone else might know that can help me with this matter ?
Thank you

Garage Band is recognizing ".aif" format loops but not ".aiff" format loops
All of the ".aif"-formatted loops (from Jam Packs, etc.) are showing up fine in the Loop Browser, but other loops I bought from third-party vendors that are in the ".aiff" format are not showing up at all in the loop browser. They are all in the same correct folder for loops on my system along with the working Jam Pack loops. I tried dragging and dropping a bunch of these loops onto the blank space on an open session based on some advice I read on the internet, and Garage Band processed them (and created new instrument tracks on the screen for each loop) but they did not subsequently show up in the loop browser as I had hoped. Do I need to reformat these to ".aif" somehow? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.Just to follow up, draggging the loop folders into the loop browser didn't work exactly on its own, but I got it to work in the following manner. First I went to the finder and deleted the apple loop indexes in each of the two locations where apple loops are stored in my computer (note to Apple: why multiple different folders for Apple Loops?). Then I dragged all of the Apple Loops that were stored in the second loops folder (in the Library under "Audio") to the first Apple Loops folder. Then I dragged both entire Apple Loops folders (required even though the second one was now empty) into the loop browser. Upon dragging the second one in, Garage Band automatically began reindexing my loops and then everything showed up in the loop browser correctly, finally. Apparently both (or all) locations where Garage Band stores loops must be individually dragged into the loop browser to trigger the reindexing process. This process was harder than it should be and I feel like it represents an annoying bug in Garage Band, in addition to the help from this post I also had to google research the problem for quite some time to figure out this process.

How do you add non-Garage band instruments (orchestral instruments) into a Logic Pro (8) project so that you can hear those insrtruments' sounds on playback? I've tried to understand and follow the Logic Pro 8 User Manual, but the process comes off as so complex and the writing so technical that it does not help but only confuses.
To be precise - I want to add instruments (orchestral) that are not offered in the current Garage band menu which is offered in the Mixer's channel strip menus for Logic Pro 8. To be clear, the instruments that are offered are Bass / Drum Kits / Guitars / Mallets / Organs / Pianos and Keyboards / Synth Basics / Synth Leads / Synth Pads. Most of these that I've tried seem to work and give their characteristic sound when placed in a particular channel and playback is clicked.
However - there is one orchestra instrument offered in the standard Logic Pro 8 Mixer channel menu and it's the item labelled "Performance - 000 flute 1 or 001 flute 1." And it is this instrument that presents a problem. When I click on it and choose it from the menu and enter it as the instrument of choice for a specfic channel / track in my Logic Pro project arrangement, when playing back the music for the overall piece this particular track, the flute, does not playback and produce the notes (Midi events) in the track in the sound of the flute. Instead, nothing comes out at all. I can't imagine why this does not work. Any ideas, anyone? Again, when choosing this instrument for a track and clicking the playback no flute sound is forthcoming. Why not? I have not tried them all, but when most of the other various types of keyboards, such as an electric piano or an organ, are chosen for a track the playback successfully renders the sound of these instruments. Why then does playback not produce the sound of the flute when it has clearly been chosen to play and sound the Midi events given it?
Anyway, the overall, larger issue for me is the inability I have to choose and get non-Garageband instruments (largely orchestral) to play the Midi events given on various tracks. If my guess is correct then technically, orchestral instruments not offered in the standard Logic Pro 8 Garageband Mixer channel menu are referred to as external Midi sampled instruments - still, IMHO the process is not clearly spelled out in the User Manual. The simple step by step process whereby a non-Garage band instrument, say an orchestral instrument, is placed in a channel replete with Midi event (notes) waiting to be played should be easy, logical and given in a simple to follow format, but is not.
What with all the talk of routes, busses, auxillary channels, GM devices, GM mixers, audio bins, libraries and audio files this Logic Pro User is confused to the max. Can someone please help me and, in simple English, describe the step by step process whereby presumably external sampled orchestral instruments can be successfully employed, in any given Logic Pro arrangement project, to render their characteristic sounds upon playback?
On my two Macs, one a laptop and one a much larger Mac, I have any number of the GSO (Garritan Symphony Orceshtra) and Vienna Symphony Orchestra instrument library samples - and yet - I've yet to figure out how to actually get them INTO a Logic Pro project of any kind! To put this as a question, even as a humble request, how can I make good use of these orchestral sample libraries in a Logic Pro project? Can someone steer my to a clear resolution of this issue. I'd sincerely appreciate it! Thanks all!

David, you understand that this is professional software and is not necessarily meant to be easy but is in fact designed to give the professional user as many choices as possible, that's why it's in the Pro Apps section. You WILL need to learn about buses, GM Devices, Audio Bins, Libraries...etc..etc if you intend to use Logic.
That said, you are looking in the wrong place in the channel strip.
May I offer you advice?
Go here:
http://documentation.apple.com/en/logicpro/
Open "Exploring Logic Pro" (a short PDF Document). Pay special attention to chapter 3. Also pay special attention to the included graphics of the channel strips.
I encourage you to read the whole document as it will clear up many things... even though it's a Logic 9 document.
