GarageBand '08 won't open

*Still not working for me!* PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can someone help me. I feel lost! I read on the "Celemony" web site (http://www.celemony.com/userforum/viewtopic.php?p=9807#9807) that LEOPARD does not allow for rewire. And Melodyne seems to be the problem, as it is the last thing I installed before my GarageBand and Logic 8 went crap house on me. Neither are working and I did everything listed here in this forum.
Anyone with any luck on this matter PLEASE clue me in.
I need HELP!

I found another thread and near the end it mentioned a possibility with fonts and this seems to have worked for me:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1075291&tstart=25
The suggestion was to move the fonts folder in my Library folder of my home folder, ~/Library/Fonts, and instead of doing that I used Font Book in the Applications folder to turn off my fonts. I opened Font Book and right-clicked on the User collection, then chose "Disable User". You can also choose the same option from the Edit menu after selecting the User collection. I didn't select each and every font, I just selected the collection named "User" in the upper left corner of the window.
After waiting a moment for Font Book to respond and disable the fonts, the fonts became grey. I started GarageBand, the initializing window appeared, and then disappeared, and then the new features in GarageBand '08 appeared. It worked.
Using Font Book, I didn't have to move the Fonts folder and I didn't have to restart or log out. That's the way it's suppose to work, and it's nice that it did.
As a test, I quit GarageBand and opened it a second time, and I noticed the welcome to GarageBand '08 window didn't show up, just the start a project window. So, I quit GarageBand, enabled all of my fonts again, and then opened GarageBand again, but it failed as it did before. I was thinking maybe the welcome window was having the problems with the fonts, but apparently that's not the problem.
For now, I'll have to leave the fonts disabled until I can go through each font with Font Book. So, Font Book has helped me workaround the problem by disabling my fonts and GarageBand '08 will now open. By the way, Font Book is an application included with the operating system.
I hope this helps anybody else having similar problems with GarageBand '08 not opening or crashing upon opening.

  • Itunes, iphoto, garageband, quicktime won't open, computer keeps freezing..

Hello, I am new to this forum, and am hoping to get some help. In just the last couple of days my computer has began to run a bit funky, freeze, and the pinwheel spins. I have to restart the computer, and sometimes can't even access the force quit. Also, my itunes, garageband, iphoto, etc will not open, nor will quicktime. I just tried to play a youtube video and it shut down firefox. A couple of days ago, I had been transferring data from my computer to an external hard drive, trying to back up all my info so that I could do an update to leopard soon. I tried running Disk Utility which is located in Applications/Utilites folder and run a permissions and disk repair, but was only able to do a verify disk permissions and repair disk permissions. When I tried to verify disk, it said it could not complete due to "volume" error. The option to repair disc would not even open up as a prompt for me to try. I also noticed that the external hard drive was listed along with Macintosh HD as an option to chose to repair or verify. Here is the other thing that has been happening, and I'll try to word this as best I can. The little clicking sound that the computer makes when it is transferring data to the external hard drive won't stop. Even though I have the external disconnected, the sound that the computer made when I was transferring data, still is being made. It seems as though the computer still thinks that the external is still connected, like it is stuck, constantly making that little clicking noise, which is located in what seems to be the front right of the laptop. If anyone one has any suggestions, I would appreciate it. Thank you. J-NY

"When I tried to verify disk, it said it could not complete due to "volume" error."
Try running +repair disk+ from your *software install DVD* and afterwards, run +repair permissions+ *from your HD.*
If the volume cannot be repaired, you will need to use a 3rd party utility. The following utilities you should consider looking into if you do not have any:
    DiskWarrior
Highly recommended for *directory damage* repairs.
    TechTool Pro
    Multi-functional utility.
    Drive Genius Multi-functional utility.
You will need to make your own decision on which to purchase. Read up on them on their websites because each does something a little different.
You must use the versions that are compatible w/your OS system & keep the utilities updated to avoid damaging/harming/trashing your system.

  • Garageband 09 won't open new tracks or let me improve old ones. Help? (Not very technical)

When I go to creat a new track and hit choose it comes up as "The file couldn't be opened"
And recent projects do not open at all
    Help?
    (Im not very technical though!)

    Hello Amy,
    you mean this screen, yes?
All instruments shown here are read from templates in the system library:
    Your Harddisk -> Library -> Application Support -> GarageBand -> Templates -> Projects -> 01. Piano.band
If you only could not create new projects from the instruments panel, I'd assume, the "Sharing and Permissions" setting for these files are corrupted.
But since you cannot open any projects, there must be something wrong with the  "Sharing and Permissions" in your home folder.
Launch Disk utility from Applications -> Utilities, and start "Verify Disk Permissions".
If permissions need repairing, run "repair disk permissions".

  • Garageband won't open after downloading Lion, what should I do?

I downloaded Lion from the app store, now my garageband won't open. Also I use Pro tools 8.4 and that won't work either!
I would appreciate any help or advice.

If it is the third party apps crashing - try downloading another app - any free app is fine. See if that resets the other apps.

  • Garageband won't open at all!

Ok so I think since I upgraded to Leopard, my garageband won't open. It just says its "initializing" and the logo bounces in the dock for about 2 minutes or so... then it says "the program quit unexpectedly after it was relaunched"
I'm not sure what the problem is. I tried to take garageband06 from a friend, but that won't work for me either.
Can anyone help me?? I have sessions booked in my studio and I use garageband for some of it...

I just figured out this problem and thought I would provide the exact location of the problem file. Celemony's Melodyne Uno running (or not running for that matter) in Leopard was the problem for me.
Go to: Macintosh HD/Library/Applications Support and remove MelodyneUnoRewireDevice (which is an alias).
Then go to: Macintosh HD/Library/Applications Support/Propellerhead Software/ReWire/ and remove both of the Melodyne components there. You don't need to remove the other ReWire components.
You may also need to go to: Home/Library/Preferences and remove MelodyneUno Preferences.
Note: you probably won't have to remove the Uno application from the applications folder if you want to wait for an update.

  • Garageband won't open at all now -- plus USB turntable issues

Applemeisters: I haven't used GarageBand in a couple of months. Now it won't open at all. The icon flickers for a couple of seconds on the dock and then disappears. I have a 10.2.8 operating system and about 3 GBs of hard disc space (I know, the usual remedy is to clear up more space, but I've had much less space and it's worked then).
Meanwhile, I bought an Ion turntable months ago and have tried repeatedly to record lps -- only to have very distorted sound, much worse than the regular stereo downstairs. Is the Ion supposed to be a plug and play with a Mac when you plug it directly into a USB port in your G4 tower? The Audacity software that is supposed to turn the lp into CD isn't doing its job apparently because the USB turntable sounds fine downstairs when I plug it into the console and speakers that play my o9dl fashinoned regular stereo.
Any help you can provide, I will appreciate. Thanks.

The problems are caused by third party input managers/enhancers that have not yet been updated by their developers to comply with the standards used by Safari 3.2.1. and/or Safari 4.
    In your case these are:
    x7e3000 - 0x7e3fff com.aladdinsys.mmenabler 7.1.0 (99) /Library/InputManagers/MagicMenuEnabler/MagicMenuEnabler.bundle/Contents/MacOS/ MagicMenuEnabler
    0x7e7000 - 0x7e7fff com.yazsoft.SDEnhancer ??? (1.0) /Users/peterdignam/Library/InputManagers/SpeedDownload Enhancer/SpeedDownloadEnhancer.bundle/Contents/MacOS/SpeedDownloadEnhancer
    0x254a000 - 0x254dfff com.yazsoft.SDSafariBundle ??? (1.0) /Users/peterdignam/Library/InputManagers/SpeedDownload Enhancer/SpeedDownloadEnhancer.bundle/Contents/Resources/SDSafariBundle.bundle/ Contents/MacOS/SDSafariBundle
You fill find them in one or either of these folders:
    Home/Library/Input Managers
    Hard Disk/library/Input Managers
    Hard Disk/Library/Application Support
although the exact location is indicated in your crash report as quoted above - look under 'Binary Images'.
Close Safari and delete them, then restart Safari and it should be working normally.
Check with the developers of the plug-ins in question for updates that are Safari 4 compliant.

  • Garageband 10.0.3 won't open

my garageband 10.0.3 won't open any suggestions

Click somewhere on the empty Desktop to bring the Finder forward.
Then go to the main menu bar and select the "Go" menu:
Select "Go > Go to folder" and enter     /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/   and click "Go"
The will open the folder directly in the Library on your Hard disk, with the plug-ins.

    HELP!

This means that you are trying to open an online PDF in a browser that doesn't use the Adobe Reader plugin; see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/pdf-browser-plugin-configuration.html
    Either:
download the PDF to your local disk and open it from there
use a browser that uses the Adobe Reader plugin
configure your browser to use the Adobe Reader plugin

  • Garageband won't open, keeps downloading

I purchased the GArageBand app from the app store for my MacBook Pro, and it downloads, then it downloads add-ons, but won't open! It keeps starting the download over again once the add-on downloads finish and I click the icon in my dock to open the program!

First if you run Pro Tools never update your OS until Avid says it's ok. I'm guessing that something pro tools may have done to a library or driver effected Garageband and the update broke pro tools and pro tools took garageband with it.
May be a good idea to get the newest version of garageband.

  • Garageband won't open....??? HELP!!

I just used Garageband last night...and now it won't open for some reason. The only thing I can think of is that I deleted my Digidesign folder from my Applications folder because it wasn't working with my MBox. That shouldn't affect Grageband though, right?
When I try to open it, the App icon just continually bounces in my dock...
    PLEASE HELP!!

Looking at your crash report, I see that the crash occurs with the Melodyne rewire plug-in. If I remember correctly, the Melodyne rewire plug-in is not compatible with Mountain Lion. Check with the Melodyne webpage, if there is a software update available for Mt. Lion and install it. If not, remove the
"/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/Melodyne.component/" from your System Library to the Desktop and restart your system. See, if you can launch GarageBand now. In that case you will have to use the stand-alone version of Melodyne and not the rewire version.

  • Garageband Won't Open

Ok, so I was trying to download some effects to improve garageband. However, they weren't working correctly and I deleted the program. Ever since this garageband won't open. Every time I open the program it asks "Where is the Waves plug-ins folder?" and pulls up the finder for you to show where it is. I tried uprgading to garageband 3 (I had GB 1) as I was told by the cashier at the apple store that it would reinstall all the plugins I need.
Anyone know where I can find or get the Waves plug-ins folder? Thanks so much! I use this program in my live keyboard rig every week and I was quite limited without the program.
    Thank you,
    Jared

Thanks. Downloading the software again from Waves allowed me to open GB. The thing is I never used any plugins from this program in any of my GB projects and none of them would open until I reinstalled the Waves program. I really don't want the program. Is there a way to uninstall the program and still use GB.
    Thanks so much,
    Jared

  • GarageBand won't open in 10.6.6

GarageBand won't open after upgrade to 10.6.6 despite installing combo update and so forth. Tried locating com.apple.garage.plist in Library/Preferences but cannot find it.
Please help, I just keep getting the 'initializing' bar and I have to force quit. And now for some reason a CoreMIDI framework folder keeps appearing in my dock.
I spent a bloody fortune on ProTools and have had to accept that it's money down the drain after Snow Leopard upgrade but if GarageBand is screwed to then watch out below, Mac coming through window....

First if you run Pro Tools never update your OS until Avid says it's ok. I'm guessing that something pro tools may have done to a library or driver effected Garageband and the update broke pro tools and pro tools took garageband with it.

Are you also using GarageBand on the iPad?
Launch "Settings" on the iPad, then in Settings scroll down all the way to the applications, and click GarageBand. Then you should see the "Reset" switch. Switch it to "ON".

    Hi Duckman,
I've asked for this thread to be moved to iLife > GarageBand. Hopefully you'll get a better response there here than this forum which is GarageBand for iOS.
