Garageband '09 Track is Out of Sync

We recently recorded a 30 minute talk for a podcast in Garageband and for some reason when I go to edit it, the track begins before the visual for it does. Now the audio is out of sync from the visual waveform and when I try to edit the track, everything is off by about 3 seconds. How can I get this back into sync, or has Garageband been as thoroughly broken as iMovie at this point?
I've tried exporting to iTunes and re-importing, now I'm trying exporting to Disk, up next I guess I'll try importing to a new file. If this has happened to anyone else, did something work? Thanks.

This was killing me when I was trying to mix some bizarre electronica, but here is a fix:
Set your in and out points for the project with the yellow bar.
Isolate each track one by one and export uncompressed.
Start a new project, drag all your exported AIFFS into it, and presto, new waveforms will be drawn and you can mix from there.

  • Why is my dialogue track drifting out of sync?

I have a 5 minute clip 1280x720 - I am using Apple Pro Res 422 and H264 - Clip plays beautifully in the timeline, but when I export the clip as a QuickTime Movie, self contained and NOT recompressing frames, the dialogue track drifts out of sync after 60 seconds. I am approx. half a second out by the end of the clip. HELP!!!

It's a little unclear. What format is the clip (Codec, and audio sampling), and what format is your sequence? If your clip or sequence are h264, that's probably the problem. h264 is not suitable for editing and sources should be converted to a fcp friendly format before editing. Also, all source audio should be 48k 16bit aiff with your sequence audio settings the same.

  • When I export a AAF file from Protools 9 and Import the file into Logic ProX the drum track is out of sync.  I created the drum loop using NI Maschine.  Has anyone else seem this??

When I export an AAF file/project from Protools 9 using an external drive and import the AAF into Logice Pro X the drum track does not play correctly.  It is out of sync with the rest of the track.  I created the drum loop as a plugin using Native Instruments Maschine. Has anyone else had this problem??  Also how would I go about exporting the midi tracks from the Protools session.  The midi track does not show when the file is imported to Logic Pro X.  The midi data should export with the AAF file correct??

Are you using any plugins in Logic?
In Preferences/Audio  under the General tab, how do you have the plug-in-latency compensation set?

  • Some audio tracks bumped out of sync

I recently discovered that some audio tracks have been bumped out of sync starting at one point in my timeline, and there doesn't seem to be any consistency to it–stereo tracks have shifted so that one track starts early while the other is in sync, others start together but have been bumped, while all of the video seems to be correctly placed, and some audio is still in sync. This has happened on various audio tracks and with varying degrees. Any clues on how could this have happened? Could it be from insert edits? I use them all the time and never had any problems like this before. Please help!

This can easily happen if you audio and video tracks are not linked. (Apple L toggles linking on and off) When they are linked it's difficult to inadvertently bump the picture or audio track out of sync.
As for the stereo tracks. The only way to bump them out of sync is if they were, at some point, not stereo tracks. (Option L toggles stereo) And even that should rectify itself when they get made into stereo tracks again.
I say "should" because I've had stereo tracks of unequal lengths show up a few times and have never been able to figure out how it happened. I do know that if you don't fix them they can play havoc with the audio if you export the sequence to QT.

  • Two synced video clips come out of sync in the middle

I am working on a two camera project and I have synced the cameras using a sync point. At first the videos remain in sync and play fine, but shortly into playback the tracks come out of sync. I have not moved any of the tracks. How do I keep this from happening?
I am using Final Cut Express HD 4 and am working from an external hard drive. It is a Lacie 500GB -8Mb Cache - 7200RPM Mini Hub. The max interface transfer rate is 400Mbits/s for firewire and 480Mbits/s for USB 2.0

Does the video from the two cameras go out of sync with each other or the audio? What are the item properties for the two clips?

  • Out of Sync issue

Hi, I'm using Premiere Element 10.0 (Bullseye) and am downloading video for my wife from a Sony HVR-Z5E HDV 1080i camera via Fire wire in mpeg2 format, Audio at 48k etc.  When I watch the footage captured back, the sound track is out of sync...!!  I've been through the preferences and set everything as standard for HDV, PAL 1080i etc. but no joy.....What am I doing wrong?
I have spoken with video editors (who use other tools) and no-one understands the issue?
    Pointers / thoughts welcomed.
    Regards
    Steve

    Let us do a recap
    Premiere Elements 10 Windows
You set the project preset for
    PAL
    HDV
    HDV 1080i25
When the workspace opens, you use Get Media/HDV Camcorder and the Capture Window opens. Do you see this Capture Window
I ask about this since you said
I can't find he check boxes you mention on the preferences or projects settings menu's...am i missing something?  I have "report dropped fames" and "use device control timecode" on the capture options in preferences.
If you have a red line over the Timeline content without edits, after you press the Enter key, does the red line turn green?
    Did you try this yet
For troubleshooting purposes, can you do the HDV data capture firewire into HDV Split to get .m2t split clips that you import into Premiere Elements 10 (Get Media/Files and Folders) and end up with these clips playing back in Premiere Elements 10 with in sync audio?

  • Why are my imovie video and garageband track out of sync?

    Hi
I'm currently making a video of an original song for youtube. I've been recording the video in imovie and the audio in garageband.  I mixed down the audio in garageband and imported it to imovie. I lined up the audio with the visual at the start of the track, only to find it gradually goes out of sync with the video. I tried a different approach, syncing up the video and audio at the end of the song. I went back to the start of the song to see how in sync it was and the audio started way before I open my mouth! Unfortunately imovie did not record any sound, so I can't use the imovie sound to sync it.
I have literally no idea how the video and audio could be going out of time! I have one video and one audio track, so it's not a mix up.
It is totally bizarre and I wonder if anyone could suggest what's caused it/how to solve it.
    Thanks
    Vic

First do not use the Share ➙ iDVD menu option in iMovie.  Use the Share ➙ Media Browser.  The former loses considerable quality in the shared movie.  Drag the movie from the Media/Movies pane in iDVD into the iDVD menu window.
Follow this workflow to help ensure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Audio Tracks Out of Sync?!

I opened up one of my projects today and started playback and everything was all over the place, out of sync.
the project consists of acoustic guitar, electric guitar and two vocal audio tracks plus a b4 organ track and an ultrabeat drum track.
i shuffled things around to get them back to normal, moving my audio regions around a bit until it sounded right. i ended up messing pretty much everything up so i used the command to move all audio regions to original location.
the drums were still out of sync and off tempo, even. i wondered if i had messed with the tempo and not remembered so i started playing with it trying to get it to match.
i quickly discovered that if i adjust the tempo at all, my audio tracks/ regions fall out of sync again. this makes no sense to me whatsoever, and i'm kind of worried i may have a corrupt project or something.
does anyone know what this may be and how to fix it????? thanks.

X-man is correct. This behavior isn't unique to Logic either.
Let's say your sequence is at 60 BPM. That's 1 beat every second. You record 4 tracks, each with an individual hit of a drum and nothing else:
Track 1: Kick on beat 1 - heard at zero seconds
Track 2: Snare on beat 2 - heard at 1 second
Track 3: Kick on beat 3 - heard at 2 seconds
Track 4: Snare on beat 4 - heard at 3 seconds
Now you change the tempo to 120 BPM. That's 1 beat every 1/2 second. Because you've got these individual sounds recorded on separate tracks, their playback will occur more quickly. In fact, twice as fast:
Track 1: Kick on beat 1 - heard at zero seconds
Track 2: Snare on beat 2 - heard at 1/2 second
Track 3: Kick on beat 3 - heard at 1 second
    Track 4: Snare on beat 4 - heard at 1 1/2 seconds
This is not time compression. Changing the tempo from 60 to 120 simply causes the individual recordings to play back sooner relative to bar 1/beat1. In this case, half as much time elapses between the playback of each sound.
IT'S A WHOLE DIFFERENT STORY if this kick/snare pattern is contained in a single audio recording, because the spacing of the kicks and snares is frozen in time within the recording.
Let's say you record kick/snare/kick/snare as a single piece of audio at 60 BPM...
    a) if the recording is made at bar 1/beat 1, no matter what the tempo of the sequence is changed to at a later time, this recording will be always be 'anchored' at bar 1 beat 1.
    b) if the recording was made at bar 4/beat 1 (that's 4 seconds in from bar 1, beat 1) and then you change the tempo to 120 BPM, the timing of the drum sounds in the recording won't move relative to one another, but what will move is WHEN IN TIME that recording is triggered to play back. In this case, doubling the tempo is going to make that region trigger still play back on bar 4, but you get to bar 4 twice as fast at 120 BPM than you do at 60 BPM!! So the region will play back after 2 seconds have elapsed (from bar 1).
    HOW TO GET AROUND THIS:
There's a key command called "Lock Regions to SMPTE Postion" (do a search for "SMPTE" or "Lock" in the key commands window). When you select regions and apply this command they'll be locked at the time of their original recording. This way you could record tracks that don't all start together, like this:
    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
                YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
          ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
...then change the tempo at a later time but NOT have the tempo change affect the position of the regions relative to one another.

  • Audio Tracks and Video Out of Sync!!

I am having a problem with not only the video and audio being out of sync, but the audio tracks, left and right, are out of sync with each other. I know it isn't the camera or tape because I watch the footage while it's capturing and it is fine, plus it happens all the time, with different tapes and different cameras. What would cause this and how do I fix it? Also, how do I set my preferences to automatically start the camera when I click capture? I have it set on my iMac but I can't find it on my G5.

  • How do I delete the silent lead in to a song on Garageband 10.0.3 without the automation getting out of sync?

I want to delete the dead bars that lead in to a song I have recorded on Garageband 10.0.3 so I can mix it to MP4.  I tried doing this using Arrangement, simply deleting the bars, but this leaves the automation out of sync.  How should I do this?

Try the option "Move Automation with Regions" in the "Mix" menu.

  • Garageband playing out of sync

This problem has been plaguing me and I can't figure out how to fix it. I have two audio tracks and both are out of sync from the playhead by about 2 to 3 seconds. So essentially, the audio is playing ahead by 2 to 3 seconds in front of the clips. I've trashed preferences, and even rebooted and I'm still having this sync issue. Can anyone offer any help? Thanks

same here -- tried the plist trick listed in some forums -- nothing seems to work! help!

  • Garageband audio track keeps fading out on it's own... why??

First, let me preface that I'm fairly new to mac and garageband. I'm very familiar with PC and various audio apps for the pc, but garageband is wearing me out a bit.
I'm importing a .wav into garageband, it's about 5 mins long. after about 30 seconds the sound just fades out, even though I can see the meters jumping.
    1. why is it doing this.
    2. how do i stop it from doing this??
I'm pulling what's left of my hair out!!
    Thanks

that sounds like you might have a fadeout on the Master track.
open it (cmd-B) and see of there are any "dots" in the Master Volume's automation curve, if there are, drag select, and delete them

  • Logic 8.0.2 - Bounce midi track out of sync!!!!!

Hello, sorry my bad English. Quickly explain my problem in logic 8.0.2!!!
When I try to bounce a midi track (or register midi to audio via aux), when I import the audio track in the project, this is out of sync (enlarging the audio track, start point of the sound is late). I have tried removing all plug in (bypass), I have tried to set the latency, but I have not solved the problem. Even my friend who uses logic has the same problem.
For to remove all doubt, I tried the same operation in another work platform (Cubase 5), but the problem does not exist.
Please help me, thank you very much. Fil

    Hey Artkeys,
I have the same problem here!
I have Logic Pro 8 installed on my Imac and untill now it worked just fine with my Emagic MT4 midi interface. Now this morning I openend logic and the same error you get popped up: "Logic Pro has detected a possible conflict between one or more third party MIDI or audio drivers"
Did u figure out yet what to do to get it to work again?

  • How to exort tracks files out of garageband

    hello,
someone can says me how to export tracks files out of garage band for others music software likes reason logic or something else
For itunes that's easier but for others software i dont know how i can do that.
    thanks for your answer.
response at this adress if u can please [email protected]

Just solo each track separately and export them. Be sure to rename the export track 1, 2, etc. or it'll get confusing as they'll all have the same name. The result will be several .aiff files that should work in any recording application.

  • Audio Out of Sync Upon Reimport to FCP from Sound Track Pro

I exported Audio to Aiff from FCP so I could do some work to it in Soundtrack pro. I opened the aiff in soundtrack pro, applied a compression filter. I then saved it as an AIFF. All of this was dne in 48khz/16bit 29.97fps. When I brought it back into FCP, it gradually went out of sync. It was around 40 minutes long and it was a couple seconds off by the end.
Can anyone figure out a reason for this?

Yes, we had multiple discussions on it about 2 weeks ago. This watch 4-minute movie to see solution:
