the "Logic Pro & Mainstage Additional Content"
A week ago MainStage 3 and LogicPro X have been released. I sincerely hope, that this has not removed the support for the download of MainStage 2 files.
Send a bug report to Apple: Apple - GarageBand - Feedback
If your Mainstage 2 is a recent aquisition, I'd contact Apple Support and request help with downloading those files.
Is there any other solutions I could try?
Try, if you can download additional contents with the software update tool from the Terminal, see mteeps post here:  I never tried, if that will work for MainStage loops:

  • Using Garage Band Sampler on iPad2.

    Hi.
Using Garage Band ....Sampler simply stopped working and no longer records any sounds.
    Any clue, anyone?

    What is your GarageBand version?
The sampler is part of the in-app purchase in GarageBand 2.0 -  see this Support Document:
Expanding GarageBand for iOS 2.0 content with an in-app purchase http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6032
With a one-time in-app purchase, you can add Guitar Amp, Smart Keyboard, Smart Bass, Smart Strings, Smart Drums, Sampler, and a total of 157 preset sounds. The purchased instruments appear in the Touch Instrument browser after you purchase them.
In GarageBand 1.4 the sampler is here: see  Play sounds with the Sampler  http://help.apple.com/garageband/ipad/1.4/index.html#chs392814a5
And in GarageBAnd 2.0 with in-app purchase:  http://help.apple.com/garageband/ipad/2.0/index.html#chs392814a5

  • Assign Samples from Sample Instrument to Mac Keyboard Keys?

I do a little freelance composition for commercial uses, entertainment trailers, games -- in other words, no performance at all, usually SFX or electronica-esque tracks 30 - 60 seconds in length. I've long been doing the work on dedicated digital equipment -- mixers, Korg pads and a sampler, couple small synths, a hardware sequencer, multitrack recorder, an old Drumulator (which stays, by the way; actually all of it I'll probably use here and there) -- and I've evaluated DAWs in the past, generally deciding I'd just be trading one set of complexities for another. But with after looking at Logic Pro Studio (LP 8), I can no longer make that argument.
I have a new Mac well up to the task, so I've finally decided to buy in. My wife will be thrilled (Where did all the STUFF go?) For the kind of work I do, I can't, not this early into it, reasonably justify buying a high-end control surface to expedite what I can do with a mouse and keyboard.
What I am concerned about though is needing something like one of these Akai multi-bank "drum pad" interfaces for triggering samples. I have a small keyboard with USB controller interface for parts I really need to play -- piano being my traditional instrument background. I know in GarageBand with sound effects sampled "instruments", like "radio sounds" for example, you can assign different effects to different Mac keyboard keys, hit and hold the A key for a certain sampled effect, hold it for the full sample, or release the key to cut it mid-sample, repeatedly tap for a stutter, etc., pretty much any of the basics you can do with a pad-triggered sample on a dedicated sampler, or with a pad interface to a DAW.
Can Logic do this? I'm assuming since GB samples instruments use the EXS format of Logic, and you can create GB sampled instruments in Logic, there's no problem assigning different sample files to different notes in Logic's inbuilt sample. I just don't to use the the USB-interface keyboard to play them, as I often will need to keep it free for some improvisational noodling with a synth instrument or what have you, yet still need to improv triggering the samples, too. Rather than go back and drop the samples in after recording, say, a live synth over a drum sequence. Since I don't do any live performance outside a studio environment, there's tolerance for going back and making adjustments, or re-recording.
On the one hand, I already have far too much equipment and would rather skip the pad-trigger interface if I can. On the other hand, in switching to Logic, I don't want to entirely eliminate all improv play, layering the whole thing together with a Mac keyboard and mouse, like building a Lego model kit. I mean, I can, as what I do on dedicated equipment is far more like programming a computer than actually performing live music, but having a background in piano performance, I still like a little spontaneity to creep in while composing.

Hey, thanks for saving me a few hundred bucks. If it turns out I'm not comfortable with it, I can always backtrack and buy a good pad trigger/control interface. But the idea is to streamline as much as possible into the Mac and Logic, make most of the dedicated gear optional rather than required. All my friends who use Logic Studio are in large-scale and/or expensively outfitted production studio environments; when I go play around, I sort of get lost tinkering with all that wild gear and forget my checklist. I called a couple of guys about this particular question and from both I got, "I have no idea, man. We use control surfaces for everything." So your answer was especially helpful.

  • I've been trying to make a music video to play in iTunes, that uses a single photo to show throughout an entire song - Does anyone know how I can do this???

The files work fine on my desktop, in iWeb, and in iTunes, then a couple of days later they stop working somehow.  I did notice that the audio portion is 6 minutes or so and the video only lasts 8 seconds, but it really does show the picture through the entire song  for the first few times.  I just want to know how to do this so it works.  Here is an example of what I am talking about:

The most common methods to create a podcast are using QT 7 Pro or the GarageBand application. Your sample files look as though they may have been created using a QT 7 Pro (or similar app algorithm) by opening your JPEG in a player and then attaching the music to the to the end of image frame. The proper way to do this is to create a QT player with the JPEG image in it and then copy the content from the image player to the opened audio player using the "Add to Selection & Scale" Edit option to paste the image across all frames of the audio track.
Here is an example of what I mean: Blow Me Away_modified.mov
In this case I extracted both the audio and JPEG tracks and then re-sampled the audio track to get rid of the added empty audio frame and then added an externally re-scaled 826x638 version of your 1651x1275 internally scaled 827x638 display to reduce the file size from 10 MBs to 6.7 MBs.

  • Digital Static Noise on Recording - Core Audio Bug?

I'm using a G5 DP 2.3, and when recording from the USB Audio Codec*, digital noise/static kicks in after a seemingly random period of time, anything from 3 mins to 15 mins. This occurs with any audio application.
The 'workaround' is to go into Audio MIDI Setup, and change the sample rate for USB Audio Codec to 48 KHz (rather than the standard 44.1 KHz). That seems to stop it in any application, except GarageBand, which changes the sample rate back to 44.1 KHz when it opens.
Anyone have any further news on this??
*should clarify - USB Audio Codec is what's used for USB audio input devices, e.g. USB turntable (Pro-Ject III USB in my case) and some USB mics. The issue doesn't occur when recording from the computers own (non-USB) audio input, or from a (FireWire) audio interface.

I think i posted this somewhere on here before, but this option has worked for me...and in garageband--at least for now. I have a "tube MP" usb device that i got and i was having this static problem. For some reason, which i do not understand, i've not had the issue lately by going in and changing to the 48KHz setting. Maybe i'm opening garageband first, then changing the setting? I don't know, but i do know i have to change the setting ever time i use it and i've got now static now for some time.
There is no doubt that something is wrong on Apple's end. It's been extremely disapointing for me to find that after switching to Mac because of the "user friendly" aspect that i've actually had more problems recording audio via usb with my mac than i ever thought about having with my PC.
What's even more unbelievable to me is that such an obvious problem would be ignored by Apple. Makes me kind of want to call up some PC companies and give them a suggestion for a real funny comercial for their PC: Have some guy speaking into a mic about how awesome apple is and about half-way through the commercial this horrible static sound just starts pumping over his voice... you get the picture.

  • Error while trying to synchronize audio and MIDI.  Sample rate 42804 recognized.  Check conflict between Garageband and external device.

Sometimes, while playing back my software instrument songs, I get an intermittent pop-up error message, saying "Error while trying to synchronize audio and MIDI.  Sample rate 42804 recognized.  Check conflict between Garageband and external device."
(Sometimes the five digit number is different, but remains a five-digit number beginning with "4".)
Simultaneously, the song stops until I press the "Okay" button in the pop-up window.
When I continue to play the song, the sound is jerky and clipped, and the playhead doesn't keep up with the song, and then suddenly jumps to the part of the song currently being played.
There's also a sound of static.
The issue seems to occur whether or not I have my MIDI controller turned on and plugged into my desktop Imac.

  • I have a set of drum samples that I want to use as one of the drum kits in Garageband. How?

    Hi there
I don't know what this is called so I havent been able to search for it online.
I have a set of WAV drum samples (kick, snare, hihat etc all as individual sounds) that I would like to use over an entire song as the drum kit for the song.
Meaning when I play the notes on my midi keyboard I can hear the sounds using garageband.
Or if I have played the drums already and created a midi track in GB I can select this entire set of sounds as the drum kit.
Is this possible and if so how do I acheive this please?

  • I have samples missing in Garageband 11 that I have in other versions on different computers.

I was working on older computers with a community group using Grageband and they had all the samples available but I have transferred the sessions onto my MacBook Pro with Garageband 11 that I purchased from the App Store, and coem of the sample sections are missing/greyed out. Greyed out sections are Vocals, Celesta, Harpsichord, Harp and Slide Guitar.

Yeah I have Mainstage 2 installed
And have you downloaded and installed all the additional contents that comes with Mainstage 2? From the Mainstage main menu bar:  Mainstage > Download additional content?
How is the drop down menu at the top of the Loop Browswer set? Is it set to "Show all" to  show all "Loops", or have you selected a specific collection? In that case set it to "Show All".
The screenshot below shows what I see on my Mac with the Mainstage additional contents missing. Is that, what your loop browser is showing?
    Regards
    Léonie
Added: If your project has a signature with only a few loops available, like 12/8 or 3/4, even more instruments may be dimmed. The loops are filtered by the time signature, the scale, and your Preference settings "Filter for more relevant contents".

  • Samples for GarageBand and Logic.

Quite a time ago, I mentioned Pete Thomas's samples. I play tenor sax and learnt about him from his own and the Sax on the Web site. Pete has played tenor with the Fats Domino Touring Band, written for Sound on Sound, taught sax and composing at Southampton University and now makes his living as a composer.
Samples are very important to him and he has completed his conversion of EX24 samples so that they are self installing in GarageBand 02 onwards with images!. Superb tenor and alto sax full range, with vibrato and without, tenor growls, flute, clarinet, Harmon muted trumpet, various recording studio keyboards, guitar and percussion.
    Try out samples available on
    www.petethomas.co.uk
Should you want the full monty and who wouldn't, proceeds go into Pete's charity fund. He trustingly used me, a computer illiterate as a Beta tester and as my growls are poor, I use his, alongside my own 'real instrument' tenor. As it is for charity, I've paid for all his available output and recommend them.

  • How to convert mp3 software instrument samples to format garageband can use

    Hi and thanks in advance.
I'm using GB '08 on OSX 10.4.11 w/ a G4 MDD. ( Sorry folks,  This is the setup that I have and cannot buy a new computer or software at this time)
I'm pretty new too DAW and all of this but want to compose music with traditional orchestra sounds as well as what GB offers.
I have found Muse Score and I can get some pretty good results for writing but I want to expand the software instrument voices that GB has.
    I found  http://www.philharmonia.co.uk/thesoundexchange/make_music/samples/library/
and they have some pretty good sounding software instruments for free, except that they are in mp3 format.
I did some reading and see that GB understands a different format for this. I put some of the sounds into the correct GB folder as a test and result is of course no go. I see that GB uses exs and cst files in addition to wav and aff files.
How do I convert mp3 software instrument samples to the formats garageband can use? Is there a way? What would I need to do this?
    Thanks again..

The first step would probably be to convert the samples into AIFF files, that's what GB's sample files are in.
But so far that's only a collection of samples - what you need is a sampler file that tells the software which sample to trigger with which key (the .exs files in GB's instrument library).
Since your software is old, t works pretty well with soundfonts (the latest versions have problems), so you might try this software to create them:
    http://sonicamigos.com/polyphontics/
    All about soundfonts:
    http://www.bulletsandbones.com/GB/Tutorials/SoundFonts.html
P.S.: The softare costs $60, but you can create 10 instruments for free.

  • Why am I getting midi conflict/sample rate errors. GarageBand 10 intel mac

Why am I getting midi conflict sample rate errors with no connected midi device?

Ok, I'll answer this myself. It has nothing much to do with midi devices being in conflict with anything. Nothing much to do with midi devices, as such, in fact. What it seems to be is a slow running system, whether it be processor, or hard disk, or whatever. In fact, when I found the cause of the problem, it was easy to solve.
What I saw a few times throughout this episode, was an inacurate sample rate report, which caused Garageband to run and react slowly, causing stuttering and flutter in audio output, so that noises were produced as the program struggled to handle the data streams it was reading and trying to reproduce and output cohesively. All of that was caused, it seems, by my iMac overworking and getting a bit too hot for comfort, having run all day, and multitasking for a good deal of it. I didn't adjust I/O buffering, or take any of the usual 'advised action' I've read from other users.
I simply saved my work and shut down the machine for an hour or two. When I restarted the machine, all had returned to normal. The lesson is, it seems to me, is minimise, or, stop other tasks the machine is carrying out. Safari, in particular, seems to be a major drain on resources, so work without it running. Shut down all unecessary programs and tasks, and run Garageband alone, when working in it. Garageband is a much tamer beast when it's left alone to do what you ask of it. It's quite a sensitive little soul. :-)

  • GarageBand Ipad 2 - Sampler Questions

i just bought garageband for my ipad 2.  i want to be able to sample a chord from a keyboard with the push of a button and have that note sustain until i push another button with another chord that i want to sustain etc etc.  is this possible on with the sampler or drum machine they have?  and if this is not possible, what might be a good sampler or drum machine app to use?
lastly, where's a good manual for ipad 2 garageband with all it's new touch and smart instruments?
    THANK YOU discussion board!
    andrya

Knowing the developers started with a touch screen not lending itself to this use, I am impressed that any semblance of velocity sensitivity was achieved. D like to know how they did it at all.
Hopefully, with refinement of the app, we will see steady improvement.
    Just my opinion....

  • What about sounds that *I* sampled, or Garageband tracks?

I'd like to create custom ringtones from sounds that I sampled, like the sound of my Harley being revved, or my wife saying "Answer the phone, dummy!". And, I'd like to use Garageband to create tracks that I can use as custom ringtones.
Unless I misunderstood the announcement, I WON'T be able to use either self-sampled or Garageband tracks with the standard iTunes ringtone generator.
I acknowledge that there are copyrighted works that are sold by ITMS, and that Apple has to pay a copyright fee for each sale. And, I acknowledge that DRM-protected materials exist and that the use of DRM-protected materials as ringtones may not fall under DMCA-specified "fair use" of those materials.
However, do I have to make an RIAA-approved recording of my wife's voice or find a way to pay a fee for Garageband-generated tracks just to be able to use them as ringtones?
Come on, Apple. Restricting self-generated content from being used as ringtones in favor of your "approved" media files is counterintuitive, coercive, and just plain silly.
    \burt

This definitely has me stumped as I'm unsure as to why your guitar can be heard, but with none of the channel strips plugins applied to the sound.
On the record enabled channel strip that contains your guitar input, is the "I" button located near the "R" active? Also, if you record your guitar, can you hear the FX applied to it when you play back the recorded track?
