Garageband 10 going SOOO slow...help please.

Hello everyone,
I just downloaded the newest version of Garageband (v.10) and now I've noticed that it is going extremely slow. This is a brand new iMac I'm running it on. My specs are as folllows:
27 inch model
3.2 GHz quad-core Intel Core i5
8GB of 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM
1TB HD
I really feel like my computer should be running this without a problem. Why is it lagging so hard?
I don't have any other programs running (besides an instance of Safari).
The reason I'm worried is because I have a project coming up in which I will need to crank out a LOT of music in a very short period of time. I need this thing to be operating at top capacity.
Is there something I'm missing?
Is it possible to revert back to the older version of Garageband that I know worked just fine?
PLEASE HELP, I'm in trouble if I can't fix this.

I don't have any other programs running (besides an instance of Safari)
Safari can be a memory hog - if in doubt, quit Safari, before working with GarageBand.
Is it possible to revert back to the older version of Garageband that I know worked just fine?
If you did not delete your older GarageBand version, when you upgraded, it will be still installed. The GarageBand installer will have moved it to a subfolder of Applications -look for a folder GarageBand 6.0.5 in Applications. You can use both GarageBand version in parallel, no problem.
and now I've noticed that it is going extremely slow
Try to narrow down the problem. Is this the same on all projects?
Then check, if you have incompatible audio units installed. GarageBand 10.0 is not compatible with older Audio Units.  And if you are using audio interfaces, check, if there are updates for the drivers.

  • HT1338 My MacBook's internet is going so slow - HELP!

The internet (Safari, Firefox, etc.) on my MacBook is going so slow.  I ran a speed test on it and my download speed is 5.37 Mbps and my upload speed is .96 Mbps.  Nothing else is going slow.  I cannot open facebook, google, gmail, and many others.  It will go to the page but will be a white blank page and it will just say loading.  If I wait for a couple minutes, the page will eventually load.  I know it's not my router because my roommates are not having a problem with it and I have recently tried another wi-fi site and the same thing happens.  Is there anything I can do?  I can't perform normal daily functions on it so I really would appreciate any help!
    Thank you!

    Hi Kayla,
Try putting these numbers in Network>TCP/IP>DNS Servers, for the Interface you connect with...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Then Apply. For 10.5/10.6/10.7 Network, highlight Interface>Advanced button>DNS tab>little + icon.
DNS Servers are a bit like Phone books where you look up a name and it gives you the phone number, in our case, you put in apple.com and it comes back with 17.149.160.49 behind the scenes.
These Servers have been patched to guard against DNS poisoning, and are faster/more reliable than most ISP's DNS Servers.

  • Import catalogue .. going mad: need help Please

o.k. i backed up catalogue from C: drive on xp to ehdd labeled h:/. now trying to import into lr 3 with win 7 from h:/ to C:/ no go. i  get the number of images for all photos and all subs but no images after 9 hours. no activity on H:/ nor C: drive. do i copy catalogue to .lrcat to c then open?? if you can help i would be grateful. i have 7,600 images.
    thank you, thank you.

After finally loading, all of my files and icons were gone..it was still my profile..
Sounds to me like it is not your profile. If your profile is not available, Windows will create a new one.
Let's try to repair your real profile from the Recovery Environment. This works for Windows 7 too.
How to launch the Windows Recovery Environment
    Run Startup Repair from there.
Which Satellite A665? There is a label on the bottom.
    it's going soooo slow
That could indicate a failing hard disk.

  • My Computer and safari is running really slow. help please?

hi, if anyone can help me i would really appreciate. ok, my computer has been running very slowly for a while now. when i open up multiple pages of anything (mainly safari and word) or combinations of applications it loads slowly, runs slowly, and sometimes doesn't load at all. also, often when i am using safari, a unlock keychain popup comes up and asks for the "keychain password". i exit it once, but it pops up again a second time and i exit it a second time because i do not know what the passwords is. please help me.

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
When a drive slows down check for available disk space.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. *Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times.*
*For Keychain issues / Safari issues.*
Sounds like your Keychain preference file is corrupted. Locate this file:
    com.apple.keychainaccess.plist
~/Library/Preferences. Move that file from your Preferences folder to the Trash.
    If that doesn't help...
    1) Quit Safari
    2) Open Keychain Access. (Applications/Utilities) Find the "Safari AutoFill" item. Delete it.
    3) Relaunch Safari. Next time it asks for authorization, click "Always Allow".
    Try Safari Maintenance
And try using Open DNS Click the computer icon and follow the instructions.

While 4GB may have been fine with Snow Leopard or Lion, that was 4 years ago.
If you have never done a clean install consider doing one. Backup, clone, setup a USB installer and wipe the system. Or wait for the new internal 500GB drive (so you are back to using about 50%) to do a clean install and run Setup Assistant. You would be surprised how even just that can feel and run.
RAM is pretty much a given so when you do, look at putting a 500GB SSD in there as well.

  • Internet on my MacBook is so slow - Help Please!!

Basically I have a MacBook, about a year and a half old, runs on Tiger, all the latest updates on software etc etc. However my internet connection when on my Mac is very very slow (took over an hour to download an album from iTunes the other day). This can be intermittent and sometimes it speeds up every so often but only for an hour or so. The guy who set up our internet (long story but we are out of range of normal broadband so we receive a radio signal at top of our hill then is relayed to the house) tested the speed and it's in top 3% in country and 5% in the world. Also my Dad's iMac and my Mum's Macbook work on the same network and run much faster than mine so I don't believe there to be any problem with the actual internet connection itself.
I use Firefox but have also tested Safari, and they both run very slowly. I downloaded OnyX in hope that this might help me, ran all the clean ups etc and freed up about 30GB of space on my hard drive. However, this doesn't seem to have helped either.
I would really appreciate it if anyone could give me any advice on what to do or any particular programs which would help out my situation.
    Thanks very much,
    Nick

Also if this helps, as mentioned in my previous message, I experience periods when the internet speed picks up again to it's original pace. However, what is interesting is that this consistently happens every night between 11 and sometime before 7am. Anyone have any suggestions?

Try a safe boot (restart, hold down shift until you see the Apple logo). If this eliminates the symptom, then you know the problem is with some third-party software you have installed. Mac OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?

  • My computer does not start up right away after I close the top... Is my hard drive going bad? Help please!

I typically just close my computer when I'm done with it, instead of putting it to sleep or logging off. Recently, when I open it back up, it does not start right away. I have to press the power button half a dozen times before it starts. HELP!!

    annie1977-
    Greetings and welcome.
Try booting from the system install CD/DVD by putting the disk in the drive and starting up while holding down the c key.
After boot-up find the Disk Utility, either on the desktop or under the Apple menu. Select your startup drive and the repair permissions on that drive. See if that helps.

  • Garageband will not install, Help, Please!

Where does the App store download files to?
I am having loads of problems with App store on my iMac running 10.6.7, my MacBook is fine and working as it should, but my iMac is a total disaster. It started with Update buttons appearing on the Purchases tab, which you cannot update because of the "log into the account" error and I tried all the methods outlined on the forum, none of which worked. I ended up trashing the offending apps and re-installing them. My only problem now is Garageband. It has gone. Every time I open the App store it asks me to install it, which I do, waiting 5 minutes sometimes whilst it downloads. Then nothing, it just won't install. Is there any files I should delete from the old install? It has me stumped. Any ideas?

Try a Spotlight search for Garageband. If it appears under Applications double click on it to start it, close the intro page, then on the top menu click on Garageband and then About and see what version it is.
The download you get when you are notified of a software update is a delta update as it only includes what is needed to move you from 10.6.6 to 10.6.7. The combo update contains all of the updates since the start, hence it can move you from 10.6.0 to 10.6.7, or anything in between. It is also why it is much larger than a delta update file. To my knowledge it does not contain any new updates for Garageband or anything else. It is always a good thing to try if you have problems after an OS update and some people will only manually install the combo update.
You might also want to try booting from your OS X disk and repairing permissions on your disk (there are also many different opinions on this, but it won't hurt anything).
Let us know how you get on.

  • Why is this forum going sooo Slow!??...

... must be because all the schools are closed, no more "Homework"!

People get tired if you just fool around.I totally agree with you cutie. I'll add an extra line of code in my boot loader for that, which will prevent the naughty things from getting loaded...
People can't handle my retorts because they lack certain things that I have. Now c'mon you folks can't deny That.
Why not try a social chat somewhere where you can get
the personal attention you need. Actually, I don't get social in virtual world.*

  • Macbook Pro suddenly very slow - Help please!

    Hi everyone,
I have a 13in Macbook Pro and it has been doing well up until this week when everything I click forces me to go through the pinwheel for long amounts of time. This especially happens when minimizing, opening and closing new windows as well as using the four-finger gesture on my trackpad. I opened Activity Monitor and the CPU usage looks fine - Google Chrome is the largest %CPU used at 8%. Under "System Memory", it shows that Page outs is 507GB and Page in is 27 GB.
Is there any other information necessary to determine what I can do to fix this?
A quick reply would be VERY appreciated. Thanks

It appears your MacBook Pro is suffering from a dearth of RAM for the programs you are using, but more information is required for a definitive conclusion. Read: Using Activity Monitor to read System Memory and determine how much RAM is being used
Google Chrome runs poorly on a Mac and may be responsible for devouring your Mac's available resources. Until Google figures out how to develop for OS X don't use it.
To purchase memory go to Crucial and download the little app that examines your system and recommends RAM upgrade options. Their prices are good but don't have to buy memory from them - determine what you need and buy it from Crucial or OWC / MacSales. Avoid purchasing memory from PC vendors because the Mac is intolerant of memory that does not meet its stringent specifications.

  • Broken Bonjour with Canon MF4350d after 10.6 upgrade - Help Please.

I have been using a Canon 4350d with no problems with 10.5.8 - including Printer Sharing (Bonjour). Now, after updating to 10.6 (now 10.6.2) I can still print fine, but I have lost all Printer Sharing. All settings appear to be right, and my other macs appear to be printing through the one connected via USB to the printer, but it never goes through. HELP Please. Thank you.

According to the UFR2 User Guide on page 2-8, the driver can be removed from the Mac by trashing the following folders. Note that you should delete the print queue first, by opening Print & Fax, selecting the MF model in the Printers list and pressing the minus button.
    System Volume > Library > Printers > Canon > UFR2
    System Volume > Library > Launch Agents > jp.co.canon.UFR2.BG.plist
    System Volume > Library > Printers > PPDs > Contents > Resources > en.lproj > CNTD**Z*2.ppd.gz
(where * indicates the printer model and 2 indicates the language of driver used)
With these files removed you can then empty the trash, although you may have to open Activity Monitor and stop the 'UFR II Backgrounder' service before you are able to remove all the files from the trash.
With the v2.10 driver removed you are ready to add another driver. However you need to be aware that the v1.80 driver cannot be used on 10.6. If you were using it previously then it would suggest that the 10.6 Mac was an upgrade from 10.5 rather than a clean 10.6 install. On a clean 10.6 Mac, then v1.80 driver will not operate correctly.
What you may be able to do is have the v1.80 driver installed on a Mac running Leopard and shared. You may then be able to use the v2.10 driver on the Snow Leopard Mac's to print to the Leopard share using the v1.80 driver. Note that I haven't tried this so I cannot say if this will work for you. Personally I always ensure I get a printer with Ethernet or wireless support so that I can avoid printer sharing...

  • My ipod 4g has been going very slow! I want to restart it but my power button is broken. Please help it's Ben going very slow for about 2 months now.

My iPod 4G has been going very slow! I want to restart it but my power button is broken. Please help it's been going slow for the past month. It's even slow as o type this message.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
To reset the iPod without the hardware buttons,
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings. All your wifi and bluetooth preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected. You will have to rejoin wifi networks and repair BT devices
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
