GarageBand 11 - Flex Time a real pain in the ****
Ok, in GarageBand '09 I was able to cut bits out of a MP3 file mainly from acapella but when I try do do it in GarageBand '11 I just can't do it because of this stupid Flex Time crap, it just keeps wanting to turn it on all the time and you can no longer cut out bits from MP3s I absolutely hate it. Anyone know what can be done yet?
Is anyone else puzzled as to what this zero line actually is. If I knew that it would be a lot easier to click below it.

I can't be the only person who has this problem with iCal- when a month ends on a Saturday I can't drag events into the next month and instead have to cut and paste - a real pain in the butt. I thought there was something called "scroll" but I can't find that.
Yeah that works, but, it involves a click on the event, a click on edit, a click on the date, keystrokes, plus, since you can't see the next month you have to have a calendar in front of you so as to put it to the right date. It's easier just to cut it and advance the month and paste it, once you are in the right month you can move it around helter skelter willy nilly no problems. Although now that you mention it I will try it, maybe it is easier than cut and paste as I don't really care about the date, as long as it gets moved into the right month I can drag it around all I want.

Try closing Firefox completely

The following will result in complete loss of history if it comes down to deleting places.sqlite, so rename files rather than deleting. With Firefox down.
Of course you have backups of your profile you could replace rename and

OS 10.5 Leopard install a real pain in the neck!
Before you install this new OS, make sure you backup all your important files. At work, I went to upgrade a non-intel, dual processor G5 tower, and everything was proceeding fine, when midway through the process it encountered a huge error and I was forced to "erase and install" the OS. My HD did not even come up as it was any longer. And, to top that off, it took 3 attempts at erasing and installing, because it kept snagging on something. I then had to restore my other files and apps from a backup, to my spare hard drive, and copy each of what I needed. All the graphics software had to be re-installed due to their anti-copying security features. What a pain in the @$$!!! Now, the G4 I put it on also had to be wiped and re-installed after a supposedly "successful" installation, because the spinning rainbow wheel of death appeared after I logged in, and would not stop. Any attempts at disk repair using Apple's own, or even TechTool Pro did nothing, and the permissions couldn't be repaired on either machine. Once I finally got everything working, after a day's worth of work, the new OS is very nice. I am not completely optimistic though. I have seen problems like this with Windows and PC's, but not for years on a Mac ( I do remember the bombs, error codes and death tunes the old OS and Macs used to make). Let's hope Apple fixes this, because I'm not upgrading my home machines until they do. OS itself is great, but the INSTALL is horrible!

Leopard is not perfect by any means, I've had a few problems with it myself, but your post doesn't help anybody. Not even yourself. It's just venting and it doesn't belong here.
As far as the graphics software goes, that doesn't sound like Apple's fault to me.
I'm sure Apple will fix all the problems. Please just don't post any more stuff like this. It really doesn't help anybody. -
Garageband Compound Time Rhythm (9/8)
I notice that when you put a piece in 6/8 it can register that this rhythm is compound time and puts the emphasis in the correct spot, however when putting the piece in 9/8, Garageband reacts as if I have asked to put it in simple time and therefore plays it straight with the emphasis all in the wrong spot. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have a piece in 6/8 with one blasted bar in 9/8 so I've been trying to record the drum rhythm separately - this has been a real pain because the drummer emphasis is stuck to the overall framework of the piece so that once you start half way through the bar, the drumming sounds off-kilter, but now I have come across this other problem where I cannot even get the right emphasis for the compound time signature.
Logic has never had the ability to provide a dotted-quarter click for use with compound time sigs. Strange, but true. Even in the 21st century they haven't seen fit to "fix" this long-standing omission.
You have two workarounds:
1) create your own dotted-quarter click track by assigning the klopfgeist to a track and recording dot quarters (1 measure's worth, then enable the loop parameter on the region)
2) go to this link where you can download a Logic project with a custom environment I made which provides a dotted-quarter click. Be sure to read through the thread and download the latest version (towards the end) where you can select 6/8, 9/8, and 12/8 using a menu:

Hi I am just wondering how to turn off flex time as it gets in the way.
There's a little button on the left by the word "Audio Region"
If the EVIL FLEX TIME is on, that little icon next to "Audio Region" will be twisted like a bow-tie indicating that the EVIL FLEX TIME has been activated.
To move audio you have to select the top bar of the clip in this lower audio region (you can see the name of the track or the time code of the track). You can drag-highlight-delete audio from under the "0" line, but not move it. You can also clumsily-and-not-at-all-precisely move audio in the upper tracks (as opposed to the Audio Region window) by dragging them. That won't engage EVIL FLEX TIME at all.

I just updated to 10.8 Mountain Lion from 10.7.5. Now I must enter my admin password each time I attempt to access my main hard drive. How do I reverse the need for the password? It's a real PAIN!
I'd think you have a Keychain problem (Keychain storing passwords and the likes).
When you are being asked, are you offered the checkbox, "Remember this password in my Keychain"? If so, check and see if it stops asking. -
My phone is being a real pain! Time doesn't work, can't sign into iMessage and only some apps work! It also kicks me off the wifi! This is not my connections problem, it happens everywhere! Apple is terrible! Phone also freezes! What should I do!?

Apart from Flex Time is there nothing we can do to the audio wave in Garageband?
I know we can cut/copy/paste and use Flex Time (I really dont think Flex Time works well at all by the way) to adjust the audio wave of what we've recorded in Garageband (Vocals, Guitar etc), but is that all we can do to eh actual audio wave?
Can we not lower peaks, and higher lulls etc?

After bouncing around a number of the big DAW guns, its exactly GB's limitations that have me back using it. What I found was that with all of the so called 'Pro' heavyweight programs there was such a huge learning curve and a bloatedness that it became to distracting. I was dishing money out thinking I would find a solution in an 'All in One' package only to find bugs, hassels, updates and reading manuals taking up way to much of my time. I am not a pro music producer in a big time studio where I am forced to adopt a so called industry standard, but I do make my living from music. For me personally, I have found that its cheaper in the long run, both in time and money to aquire or buy software dedicated to a limited set of functions and use it with a host like GB. It often means far less hassel and quicker results by getting to know a piece of kit inside and out in a relatively short period of time. It is a workflow that takes a bit of getting used to. Support is usually better as well. Logic may very well be the next logical step for you, but be warned that it is a much different ball game. All the best.

I can't get Garageband 11 to stretch out a note using Flex Time
Hey all
I've recorded with a real guitar using a USB adapter and I can move a note thats in the wrong position OK but I cant stretch out a note to make it longer using Flex Time.
Its the last note of the song. It just always seems to split the note and move it as opposed to drag/lengthen it out.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
ThanksI have had the same problem too. Also recorded from a USB guitar interface, but not sure if that is relevant at this point. I have tried a few things to see if I could isolate the cause. Sometimes single shot recordings work right away, sometimes they don't. Somtimes combining clips cause Flextime to stop working. I have completely rebuit a project. Selected individual clips to play solo and exported the result. Took that output and placed it back into a new song and was able to stretch it for the most part. Which led me to believe that it was clip corruption causing the problem. However, while working to get some usable audio clips for a guitar solo, the flextime problems with garageband are starting to make it unusable. Right now I have two clips side by side in the song. I can stretch the timing anywhere in either of the clips. But if I join the clips, flextime no longer works in the joined region. It will only split the notes apart. So if either of those clips were corrupted, flextime would not work in one of them.
I have found ways to get flextime working normally again, sometimes taking up to an hour. Then five minutes later it breaks again. I'm getting really tired of having to recreate my songs to get flextime working again. It would be nice if someone would look into this problem sometime before the year is out. -
My biggest 'pain' at the moment is that every time I go to change then save a Photoshop CS3 file it says 'cannot save as the file as it has been left open or is in use by another application'
Rule Number One - NEVER go directly uinto the iPhoto library - there are no user servicable parts in it and making any change no matter how small can corrupt your library and cause data or photo loss
Exactly how were you trying to save a copy of your iPhoto library?
Albumdata.xml does not contain your photos - and again NEVER make any changes to the content of the iPhoto library - no dragging - no changes - never go into the library
We need to know exactly what you did
And probalby the easiest solution is to load your backup from before you messed things up
For reference after you get things working
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive

My Magic Mouse (wireless) paired with my 2010 iMac: Often at startup the cursur just sits in top left corner of screen, frozen. Not a battery problem. New. I take batteries out, reboot (a real pain)... then ok. HELP!

I'm a Mac user and we only have Macs at home. My son just started preschool, which offers a VisionNet system--"a state-of-the-art system of cameras, servers, and software designed to provide real-time streaming video feeds over the Internet." However, on the VisionNet FAQ page, it specifies the following:
"You need a web browser that is Java-enabled, perferably Microsoft Internet Explorer. If you're running Microsoft Internet Explorer, it needs to be version 6.x or higher. We recommend Internet Explorer 6.x as this is the latest and most up-to-date product release. Some Windows XP and Windows XP Professional users will have do download a Java runtime environment in order to use the VisionNet system if they have not done so already."
We don't have any PCs at home, so I tried to log in using my MacPro desktop, my old MacBook Pro and my new MBP. Basically, for the last 3 weeks I've managed to access the site only ONCE from my desktop and after the time-out session, I wasn't able to log on ever again (I just cannot enter any keys on the Username and Password fields at login). If I hit the Logon button from the FAQ page, I get an "Unauthorized Access" pop-up message: "This site may only be entered from an authorized web site! Please enter this site from your childcare provider's web site." When I enter "OK" I immediately get a pop-up menu "Confirm Dialog Preference. Prevent this page from creating additional dialogs" but I still can't enter any keys at login. It does nothing!
The "support guy" has NO knowledge of Macs, so I don't know where else to go. The fact that I had successfully logged on once makes me believe it's something I have to update/delete/add in my Preferences in Firefox (I've used Safari and Chrome with no success). I've also considered purchasing an inexpensive PC just for this lousy VisionNet system but I want to see if anyone has any ideas or advice.

I keep getting a message that Firefox is open and not responding. That I have to close the Firefox application or restart my computer. A real pain. Why is the firefox application not closing.
Sounds like Firefox is "hanging at exit". That problem is frequently caused by an Extension or a Plugin. Read all of the following articles.<br /><br />
