Garageband '11 in the UK

Hi,
I'm in the UK and have been reading all about Garageband '11. I seem to be stuck on Garageband 10 point something. I have Mavericks installed. I don't think I can have the latest version. The screen looks wrong and there's no Drummer. Any ideas?
BTW, I've looked on the UK app store and nothing. Would be very happy to pay my 14.99 if I could figure out how.
Best wishes and merry Xmas,
PETE G

Hi mende1,
Thanks for your reply. I've solved the problem. I didn't have the latest version installed and the app store didn't update it for me. Deleted the programme and reinstalled. Now I have Drummer etc.

  • Is there any way to have two garagebands open at the same time?

I'm remixing a NIN song, and I need to have two garagebands open at the same time, is this possible? If so, please help!!

it is possible, but you'd be on your own if there's a prob, and you can't copy and paste between them if that's what you're trying to do

  • Is it allowed to use parts of an existing record for building a new song in Garageband, e.g. the rhythm part of that record?  Is this what people call ripping or trimming? And if it is allowed, what is the procedure then?

unless you pay royalties to the copyright owner of that song, it's illegal to use someone else's recordings to build your own (which software you use doesn't enter the equation):

  • Where is Garageband '08 on the DVD?  Leopard or Tiger disc?

so i got a macbook pro refurb with the following dvd's: leopard, tiger disc 1, & tiger disc 2.
where is ilife '08 located? i installed leopard already and now it won't let me access the tiger bundled software on disc 1. leopard installed with garageband 3.0.4 so that's not '08.
what do i need to do here? did i screw up by installing leopard prematurely?
    thanks,
    bob

ok, so i used pacifist (which is a pretty cool little app--thanks for that) to extract the garageband files from the tiger discs but it is version 3.0.4 which is not garageband '08 like i'm looking for.
where is garageband '08 (which i'm assuming is version 4.0)?
the documentation from apple said the refurb would come with ilife '08 but i can't find it. is it usually on a seperate disc or on the os discs?

  • Sharing Garageband project across the net in iOS?

I am making music with a friend who lives in another city, and we decided to give Garageband a try.
Is there any way to share the project over the internet, som we both can record our parts into the same project?

Do you both have a mac as well?  You can download GarageBand for iOS projects to iTunes on a Mac, mail them or put hem into a Dropbox, and your friend can use iTunes to upload the project to the iPad.
I do not know of any direct way to transfer from iPad to iPad, unless you are using the same Apple ID and iCloud. To share an GarageBand for iOS song to iTunes as a GarageBand project follow the instructions on this Help page:

  • How well does GarageBand work with the MB Air or the MB Pro 13"?

Greetings, everyone! I'd considering purchasing my first Apple computer -- to become more familiar with OSX (professionally) and to use GarageBand with my MIDI-compatible electronic keyboard (personally).
I'm having trouble deciding which laptop to buy--the Macbook Air or the Macbook Pro (probably the 13" -- I'm having a lot of trouble justifying the price jump from the 13" to the 15"). I like the beautiful look of the Macbook Air; but I'm wondering whether 2GB of RAM (at least for the models from Amazon.com -- where I want to buy from) will be sufficient. I plan to do basic photo editing, browsing, perhaps some simple video editing, and to use GarageBand. For that reason, I'm leaning towards the Macbook Pro 13" (sadly, with the now-dated Intel Core 2 Duo, and with 4GB).
Can anyone who is using GarageBand with either the Air or the Pro 13" with 4GB tell me what the performance is like? Would I regret going with the Air 2GB, the Pro 13" with 4GB, or even both? Thanks!

    Thanks! I have a Yamaha PSR-E403. 61-keys.

Also, since you asked what model KB I have...
Like most electronic keyboards I'm sure, this model doesn't have any space to place the MBP on top. What do other users use to hold their laptop in an effective spot for lessons, etc.?
http://www.amazon.com/Stage-Stands-Deluxe-2-Tier-Keyboard/dp/B0002M3OJ0 looks good...but I already have the keyboard stand.

OTOH, these products appear to be designed for placing a larger music keyboard above the primary keyboard -- not for a laptop. Appreciate any comments.

Yes, the new GarageBand 10.0 is able to open the old GarageBand '11 projects. It will update the project and save a copy in the converted format.

  • GarageBand running in the background with video app open

I was wondering if GarageBand will run in the background while I'm using the video app on the iPad. Basically, I'm looking to have my guitar running into my iPad with GarageBand running, while watching/following along with a guitar video lesson I also have on my iPad. Can the two programs run simultaneously, or will the video app eliminate the sounds I would get from GarageBand? Thanks.

Yes, I've done that while playing youtube videos with the youtube app (I'm still using ios 5.1).
Just go the wrench icon in Garageband and turn on "Run in Background".

  • My Garageband project crashed, the file lost/damaged! How to recover it?

    Guys,
I've been working my garageband project when suddenly the window was closed and the notification asked me to reopen, report or ignore it.
This is my second time my project crashed. The first time, I chose 'reopen', and my file reopen. All the midi datas still there, but the sample sounds were empty. So I had to put it one by one. What a job because I had more than 15 instruments there.
But those jobs was better then what I experienced today. After my project crashed, I chose 'ignore' with assumption I would open the last saved file. But it didn't. I really lost my file. The size for one GarageBand projects is about more than 1 MB. But my file after crashed is about 56 KB! So some solutions like 'right click' and 'show package content' didn't work at all because I worked with midi data, not live recording. I tried to find the script file at projectdata and compared it with my other projects, they have more bytes than my lost project file.
So, if you have a same problem like me, just choose 'reopen'. I hope it will save your midi data so you don't have to work it out from beginning (just like I have to do after write this post ... x) )
So guys, is there any idea how to recover my crashed file? I've sent a report to Apple and still waiting their answer.
    Thanks a lot
    Andito

Reinstalling iTunes won't ever repair damaged libraries or find lost files.
Unlike nearly all Windows software double-clicking an iTunes Library file does not necessarily open the selected database. Rather, iTunes opens the last database it successfully opened, or if that was in the "normal" <User's Music>\iTunes location, but is missing, it will create a new empty library.
You can open an alternate library file, or create a new one, by holding down shift as you start iTunes. Although you can open the library files in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder this way, your library will perform better if you restore the archived library database to the main iTunes folder in the way that I have described.
Your most recent library may be present in the main iTunes folder as a .tmp file, or recoverable via a file undelete tool, however either of these files, if found, may be partially corrupt getting you no further forward.
The two most recent releases of iTunes were June 11th and March 28th 2012..
Yes I read your post, but I don't know if you know all of the above. If you had a full backup of your library you could just restore that. It is possible that what you've tried so far hasn't yet brought back the most complete version of your library that is available to you. As a last resort you will have to work with what you have and add in whatever media is not in that version of your library, accepting the loss of recently added ratings, playlists & play counts.
You can simply add the entire iTunes Media folder using File > Add Folder to Library folder which should ignore everything already in the library and only add new (to that database) stuff. If there is any chance that your iTunes media folder contains .m3u playlist files the import process will also import all of those, which may not be what you want. iTunes Folder Watch would then present a better approach.

  • How can one find out who made the Garageband song 'For the Mind'

I ask because I have believed for 5 years that I did, it is in my projects folder from 2004. On Saturday I was playing with a new Apple laptop at JB Hi-Fi, I opened the Garageband folder and saw 'For the Mind'. I got a shock, then when I played it I went cold as it was as exactly my version! Either (and this is always a possibility) I am delusional, or I remember uploading a few things in my early use of Garageband, and somehow Apple has paid me a huge compliment and used my project as an example. I would love to know about this, it is driving me crazy now that I don't know. Can anyone shed any light on this please?

Please don't rant at people who are trying to help you. I can tell my own compositions from others', and I'm not paranoid enough to suspect Apple to secretly search my hard drive for songs they can steal and publish as their own.
(And you still haven't answered my question as to how you think they got your song ...)

  • How do I transfer Garageband songs on the iPad to my mac ?

I want to finish some ideas I have started in Garageband on the ipad on my mac.  In fact I would then like to tranfer them into logic ! Is that possible ?

    Hello spencernix,
...can this be done through itunes?
No. This process has to be done manually. For detailed instructions on how to accomplish this, see pages 55-57 of your iPod's Manual.

  • Recorded midi file with Garageband keyboard-only the beginning of it plays

    Hi,
When i play a recorded midi sound from the jampack with the midi keyboard included (world music instrum.), once the track is recorded, if I start to play it and press stop in the middle of a long note, and press play again, the last part of this note isn't heard. It's no big deal, but for editing it's a pain in the neck because in order to hear the sound I have to go back to the beginning of that same note. Anyone here knows what this can be due to?, Ive checked the garageband help and not much is said about that...
    Thanks for the help.
    Patrick.

It's not a GB problem, but inherent to midi - the data consists only of "note on" / "note off" events, not continuous information about a key being pressed down. So if you start playing your song after the "note on" event, the program has no way of knowing that the key was pressed earlier. It then just ignores the "note off" event.

  • Is there any way to record other apps in garageband? Like the animoog or ms20?

This is so important to utilize the sounds from my other apps. I need to connect audio from other apps to route into garageband as if they were plug ins that can be read as a garageband track. It would be even better if you could sync garageband midi to control these other apps. That would make ipad a complete production tool. It seems the ipad is powerful enough to run 2 apps at the same time.. So when will this be possible?

Not a question anyone here would be in a postion to answer.Nor is it clear Apple is all that interested in making the iPad "a complete prodcution tool". Difficult to say. You can offer Apple feedback here:

  • How can I increase the volume on an audio track imported from a GarageBand project, beyond the  11

I have an audio track, mp3, originally recorded in GarageBand, but with an recording level set too low.  I've now adjusted the volume in the audio track to the max, but during playback it's still rather quiet.  I have to turn the volume on my Mac to the max to have it at an acceptable playback level.  Is the any why to increase the volume on that track any further?
