Garageband and Ableton Live 7
I was wondering if anyone knew if Ableton could be run as a rewire slave through garageband as an instrument. I have done it with pro tools but i am unsure how to set the I/O settings to the corresponding channels between programs.
Thanks,
KappaSunshine
Before you did the 10.5.4 upgrade, did you run disk utillity? If you had disk or permissons issues before you did the update it wont get any better after the actual update.
If you had no issue prior to the update i would try this:
1- does the programs work okay in a new user account?
-if YES:
--log back to your orginal user
--Create a NewFolder on your desktop
--go to Home folder/Library/Prefrences/ move all files to the NewFlolder on your desktop, log out and back in to your account, open you aplications-if they work move the files from NewFolder back to Home folder/Library/Prefrences/- do N_O_T replace any files when asked so.
-if NO:
--you can try running disk utility from your instal disk, but i have my doubts it will help you that much. You prbly have to re-instal your aplications.
--if re-instaling wont help either, i would archive and instal-but you have to be the judge of that and what it will do to your machine

Plug-ins not recognised in logic and ableton live
Ive put all my plug in files in Library/Audio/plugins/components but still logic and ableton live doesnt recognise these plug in files. I realy need those plug-ins, what is going on????????
I understand why it's a painful process.
If a developer is making Mac-only software, and already using XCode, then making a unibin version is not too painful (ranging from trivial to a little bit of work).
However, if you're a large cross-platform company using a different compiler, you may have to completely change a development infrastructure you've built up over years, redevelop all your custom tools, and find solutions to the cross-platform issue, before even writing any code - and that can be a very big deal indeed.
The real point is that the customer should be aware of these things before making any critical decisions...
Ok, I'll go back to hankering after a MacBook Pro and a Mac Pro now. Anyone else like to go "window-shopping" in the Apple Online Store, and seeing how much your dream config costs...? A £7K Mac Pro, now we're talking... -
KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE and Ableton Live 6
Hi everybody!
I’ve got this strange crashing problem and I really hope that out there is someone who can help me with this.
When I try to activate a portion of track/tracks in Ableton Live by dragging mouse over them in Arrange window, the whole Live crashes (I get the message "application Live has unexpectedly crashed...") – not on the first click or on the first draw, but pretty soon anyway. And always. It’s really a big problem because it makes almost all editing impossible.
I contacted first Ableton support but all I got from there was “Sounds weird…ummm… delete preferences, repair disk permissions” (which I had already done AND told them too).
This is what I have done this far to solve the problem - with no success:
- Disabled all plugins
- Tried with different audio hardware drivers and updated all drivers
- Changed the buffer size in Live
- Disabled unnecessary preference panes (Griffin Powermate, Kensington mouseworks, FontCard etc.)
- Shut down additional software
- Turned off all unnecessary hardware
- created a new user with nothing else than Live
- deleted Live preferences
- Removed and re-installed Live and all it’s components
- Disconnected everything else but mouse and keyboard
- Disconnected TurboMouse and replaced it with Apple MightyMouse
- Tried to work with different audio file formats
- Booted with installation DVD, ran HD test and repaired permissions, after each change I made in the setup
- Installed a clean system on other HD, installed there only core audio driver and Live
- Ran Apple hardware test (and everything passed)
- Disabled all fonts except the ones system requires
Nothing helps. I've owned this computer almost two years and it's always been very stable. I use Logic Pro, Cubase SX, ProTools lite and Peak as well as InDesign, Photoshop, Final Cut Pro etc. with no problems. Actually, also Live stays on as solid as a rock as far as I don't try to select a portion of audio tracks.
I have noticed few things:
- Live never crashes when I work with MIDI tracks only. This problem goes with audio.
- Buffer size matters. The smaller the buffer, the faster the crash. But even maximum buffer does not completely fix the problem, and it's useless anyway because of the latency.
- The length of audio files seems to matter also, and so does the amount of them. If I have many long tracks in a song, the crash is almost instant. (Memory should be OK, it passed the hardware test)
- If I select a short portion of track/tracks, hold down shift, go to the end of the wanted part and click there to select the rest of the tracks, Live does not crash. But this is not the correct way to work. The problem seems to be somehow in mouse-dragging... or is it possible?
- I installed Live in G4 Dual 1ghz and there's no crashing in it.
- Some of my friends have tested this in their computers and they had no crashes. This smells strongly like a personal problem. But WHERE???
I've ran out with ideas and would appreciate any help anybody can give me.
My setup:
PowerMac G5 Dual 2ghz / 3.5gb RAM / OS X version 10.4.10
MOTU 828MkII / Digidesign M-Box / NI Kore / Behringer BCF2000 controller via MIDI

If anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it and if anyone knows how to use the drum pads for those programs I mentioned would be great? I found a couple sites for using it with garageband but nothing as for mainly live and Im running OSX 10.6 so if anyone out there knows please let me know!!! The main reason I think I installed the wrong one is when I plug in the rockband drum kit to my usb port it dosen't show up in the xbox controller program but it lights up and I've tried all my different usb ports to see if that might be whats wrong but I still show nothing and I've also installed junXion and nothing shows up there either. So if anyone has any ideas just let me say thanks in advance!!!!!!!!

Rewire with Ableton Live 8 and Logic Pro 9
Hi guys,
I'm really hoping that somebody can help me with (sorry) a Rewire problem...I am close to tearing my hair out.
I'm trying to Rewire Logic Pro 9 and Ableton Live 8. Before you ask I am using 32-bit Logic, and I am opening up Logic first, then Ableton but I can't seem to get the Ableton Live Rewire channels to appear in the Logic library.
Please help if you can, I'm going steadily insane. Such a waste of my time having to sort this rubbish out.
Cheers!Hi
Did you run Live without Logic running to get Live to install the necessary Rewire bits and pieces?
You will then need to quit, Live, start Logic start Live.

Rewire trouble when trying to slave Ableton Live to Logic
Hello,
I am trying to set up a rewire configuration on my new Mac Pro and am running into a very strange error. I am familiar with Rewire and had Logic 7.0 running with Live 5.0.3 on my older G4. Both synched tightly and were relatively easy to setup. Logic runs as the master and when you boot Live it detects this and goes into slave mode. On G4, no problem. On Mac Pro, I am getting a very strange error. On this machine I am running Logic 7.2.3 and Ableton Live 5.2.
Here is what the error says:
"Live has detected another active ReWire master application. No Rewire slave applications will be available for use with LIve unless you quit the current ReWire master application and restart Live."
When I read this error, I think... DUH! Of course Live detected another rewire master, I'm trying to sync it as a slave!!!! So this error really doesn't tell me anything other than the fact that Live cannot be the master app. On my older machine, when Live recognized Logic as the master, it automatically went into slave mode. Documentation on Live's website corroborates this. Also, Live 5.2 is suppose to work on Mactel machines. This error occurs anytime I boot Live with Logic running.
So I continue to search for a solution on this. I've read that Logic revamped the Rewire engine in 7.2.3. Has any setup changed that I should know about? I have also gone to the Rewire site and downloaded the latest version of Rewire 1.7 which is suppose to be compatible to Intel.
But over and over again, I get this irritating error message. When I click OK and boot Live up, it runs as standalone without going into slave mode.
Oddly enough, I was able to get Logic to sync to Live using the IAC bus with Live acting as master. This is a good start to finding a solution, but I really prefer to work in Logic with Logic as the master and others as slaves.
Anyone have any insight into how I can get this to work? Maybe new Logic settings? Anyone know if Live 6 is functioning correctly in this manner?
Thanks!

Ableton Live 9.1.6 kernel panics
Hi everybody!
I recently bought a MBP 15" quad-core Retina display (I switched from an early-2011 MBP 13").
I'm a musician and I produce music, so I use Logic Pro X and Ableton Live Suite 9.1.6 (the first to have full Retina support, in trial version before I purchase it).
Computer works very well, apart from using the last software I said: my computer goes in kernel panic very often ONLY when using Ableton Live 9.1.6.
I was aware of downloading the latest version (9.1.6) and in 64-bit architecture to correctly fit with my computer, that I keep clean and ordered, in order to fasten and not to overload it.
It's a problem, 'cause I just can't work in Ableton, being sure that everything will go fine.
I report to you the Apple report and the Console operations showed up just after the last reboot, all things related to the last kernel panic. I also wrote to Ableton and sent them my Ableton Crash Report (that I can't open neither with TextEdit) to find out a solution.
Thank you for your help!

Thank you Eric Root, I would like to turn your answer into "this solved my problem" but I didn't know you can't change your feedback effect!
Though, in a situation very different, my Mac had another kernel panic: I was trying an M-Audio Axiom 61 MKII with Mainstage and Logic opened and my PC went on panic.
After reboot, I went to Console and these have been the operations my computer made:

I was trying the keyboard in a shop, so until I won't have buyed it, I won't be able to see how eventual changes I will do will affect on my workstation.
Can I have a feedback about this last kernel panic?
Thank you very much! -
Import Ableton Live files into Garageband?
I've been a WIndows user for sometime and recently made the switch to Mac. I made a lot of songs on Ableton Live and would like to move them into GarageBand to continue working on them. What's the best way to do this to retain the sound and continue editing them?
Thank you. Thanks a lot. I was able to export it as an aiff file and brought it into GarageBand. It's a tedious process because I can't have each track in its own column but they are all merged into one. So I had to mute each track one by one and export.
Will keep thread open if I find anything else. -
apple loops for garageband pack doesn't show the folder content (loops, files...) in ableton live suite 8 library browser, but I can see all the loops in the folder from finder. how can i fix this? help please.
Thanks Barney, I tried that but all that comes up in Spotlight are the log files that show the file paths! I don't know how Steam works. Are all the files held by Steam on their server perhaps?

Ableton LIVE 7 and Macbook Pro mouse
Hi there,
Recently my MBP has been behaving oddly using Ableton Live 7. I will post this in an Ableton specific forum too, but wonder if this is a Mac problem rather than a software thing.
When the tracks are playing in the timeline the mouse pointer often jumps to weird places on the screen making navigation impossible when playing.. My cpu is only at 50% and there is no indication that I have too many plug ins open or anything... Same thing happens without using the bluetooth mouse and just using the trackpad..
Anyone had a problem like this using Ableton or other software??For anyone who may experience this issue - it is a known issue and turning Airport off fixes it.. Nice..................

Macbook Air 11" with1.6 ghz and 4 gig upgrade good enough for Ableton Live?
I am in love with the 11" Macbook Air. Its size is very important as I travel a lot and want a computer I can easily take to uni on a regular basis. I want to use it as my only computer, as I have two computers now and it is a hassle. I would mainly use it for watching movies, listening to music, word processing and internet, but also want to use it for producing on Ableton Live. The specifications on Ableton Live say that it needs a minimum 1.8 ghz processor. The Macbook Air 11" is 1.6 ghz. Do you think this matters? I'm not going to use it for live gigs or anything, just producing at home.
I also recommend getting a small external drive to store the Ableton library on. I keep my projects on my local drive, but the Library I keep on an external drive. My library is over 80GB not including sample libraries outside of Ableton.

Ableton Live and VST plugins with XP (Through Boot Camp) on a MAC Pro?
I am completely lost when it comes to macs, i am considering buying a mac pro with leopard but i have literally thousands of pounds worth of music production software (ableton live 6, reason 4 vst's etc etc) on my pc that i want to use in xp on a mac pro. Will all software like this run identically the same as it would on my pc that i have at the moment? I don't want to fork out this large and excessive amount of money again for this software. My pc is far too slow for the heights i'm getting to and also keeps crashing which is super annoying! Any help would be awesome, many thanks - Al
Hi and welcome to Discussions,
running Windows through BootCamp on a Mac is like running Windows on any other PC.
The Mac hardware is used natively as long as there are all needed drivers installed.
Aplle provides all needed drivers together with BootCamp.
However, given the fact that the Mac Pro uses 'Workstation'-like Hardware (mainboard, CPU, RAM) it is always possible that a certain program will not run, especially when it needs some kind of Protection-Dongle.
And these dongles have to be USB-ones, because a MAc Pro don't have Parallel or Seriell-Ports.
And you should use either XP Pro with SP2 or at least Vista Business to utilize all of the four-cores of the two CPUs.
The Home versions of Windows can only use two-cores (one CPU).
Personally I would say that you won't have any difficulties, but I don't have/use the programs you mentioned.

ITunes 9.2.1 - Still no drag and drop to Ableton Live or Toast
Hi,
iTunes 9.2 broke the ability to easily drag and drop files from iTunes to 3rd party apps like Toast or Ableton Live. I hoped for iTunes 9.2.1 to fix this problem but apparently Apple didn't.
Is there any workaround for this "NON-ISSUE"?yes, 9.2.1 did solve the drag and drop for toast, but still not avail for ableton live. I'm using ab live 7 version... heard similar problems with users of ver 8 as well. PLEASE, could someone over at Apple resolve this? It's really annoying!

MIDI - .:Ableton Live and Director:.
Hi,
I have a rather specific question. Too specific perhaps...
I want to use Director with any of the MIDI Xtras available
to produce midi messages. THEN, I want Ableton Live (music
production software) to pick these messages up in order to use them
to trigger midi instruments in it.
The idea is pretty simple.
The solution, I have no idea!
Any help would be appreciated. THANKS!Hi and welcome to Discussions,

No sound when rewiring ableton live and logic 8
my setup:
MacBook Pro 15"
Intel Core 2 Duo
2.33 GHz
Single Processor
2 Cores
L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB
2 GB RAM
Bus: 667 MHz
what i'm doing:
i start logic 8.0.1
then i start ableton live 7.0.1 and load a test song with an audio loop in it
in logic, i make a new track, logic clearly shows that rewire tracls from ableton live are available (looks like this:)
http://thumpmonks.com/jams/newtrack.png
i hit play in logic, the song starts in both logic and live, the meters in live show audio activity, but there's no sound in logic.
the channel in logic reads bus 33:
(looks like this)

I turn input monitoring off/on. no change. i make the track stereo, still nothing.
to make sure im not crazy i make an audio instrument in logic using evb3, or evp88, whatever and i hear it just fine.
in live ive tried everything: directly routing the active audio track to the Rewire output, routing the master output to a different bus and matching that bus in logic.
no sound. anyone?
