  • Loud continuous beeping With Garageband and my MIXER.

I Just got a Peavey PV 8 USB Mixer with 2 MXL 990 Phantom powered condenser mics.
Every time I connect my Mixer and open garage band there's a long continuous beep in the backround. No matter what I do I cannot drown it out. I've disabled the Audio MIDI Set up. I've gone into my preferences and disabled the internal mic and speakers and still nothing. The strange thing is that the mixer is fine if I have GarageBand shut down. But as soon as it even gets to the new project window The beeping starts again. Someone please help me.

I had this same problem, exact same problem!
After googling for hours for an answer, I decided to just call up Peavey.
Come to find out the PV6 USB Mixer is only outputting 15v of Phantom Power. Most quality condenser mics need 48v.
I asked him why did I see on the box and read online that the PV6 USB said it had 48v phantom power.
To which he replied, "Only the Non-USB PV6 has 48v of Phantom Power."
    LAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To fix this problem you would have to buy an external Phantom Power Supply
    Like this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000XUUXB8/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&p sc=1
    It is only $20
    Hope this helps!

  • No audio input to Garageband from USB mixer

I have a macbook duo core running 10.6.8 and a Behringer X1622 usb mixer. I get no input signal no matter what I do. Ant ideas?

you seem to have set the computer up properly which appears to point to the mixing console as the issue.
are you familiar with mixing consoles? i don't have an x1622 to play with to point out specifics, but things like attenuation have to be up along with the volume fader, any Sends, if the console has them, must be set right...
best bet is to check the owner's manual to make sure you have it actually sending a signal to the computer

  • I can't seem to get GB to recognize my Behringer X1222 USB Mixer. It will record, but shouldn't I be able to see and/or select which input channel(s) that I will record from? Can I record more than one channel at a time, and record multi tracks?

I can't seem to get GarageBand to recognize my Behringer X1222 USB Mixer. It will record, but only on the generic "USB Input, without seeing or letting me select the input channel from the mixer. Can't find any drivers from Behringer. How do I getGB to "see" the mixer? Thanks, I'm a newbie to Macs in genreal, and recording...

the x1222 includes a 2 channel audio interface, 2 channels are all you can get from it.
the most you can do is record to 2 tracks at a time; skim this tute to see how:

  • Trying to use Zoom Q2HD in USB MIC mode and it crashes GarageBand and the whole Ipad?

I bought the Zoom Q2HD video recorder to use for video and because it can be used at a USB Mic for iPad.  I recently bought a camera connection kit and last night tried to get the Zoom to work as a mic but it would either not work at all or it would crash GarageBand and the ipad and take me to the Apple logo as it restarted the iPad.
    Any ideas?

From the podcast link on the Garageband help page:
"Attach your preferred audio interface and a microphone to your Mac, or use your computer's built-in microphone. (Note: The iSight camera is not supported as a microphone input in GarageBand.)"

  • Audio error with garageband and external usb audio interface

I am using Garageband 2.0.3. under ios 8.0.2 on my iPad 3 and via camera adapter a USB audio interface Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 or a Presonus iTwo.
When I start Garageband, it works well, the audio interfaces are recognized and I can record a track.
As soon as I switch from instrumtent to track view, the audio path is completely disturbed and all I can hear is some noise from the speaker.
Then I have to unplug the usb cable and plug it in again. Then audio works until I switch back to the instrument menu.
When I use the headphone output only there is no problem with Garageband and everything works fine.
Other applications audio applications don't show any error with each of the two audio interfaces.
Any feedback is very much appreciated, thanks.
    Harald

I have this exact issue.  However, I tried the Loopy app after after GB crashed and received an error message saying that core audio is not available.  Rebooting resolves but the problem repeats.  Any suggestions as to fixes?  Btw; I have no such problem with Ipad 2 and ios 7.

  • USB mixer and Logic Studios

I am curious how Logic Studios would see a USB mixer. Does it see the entire mixer as one input or each channel on the mixer separately. For example, if I used a regular mixer and hooked it into the microphone jack, everything coming from that mixer would be one single signal. Does a USB mixer work the same way, or does the software see each channel separately. For example, could I put an effect on only one channel without effecting the others? I am slowly piecing together a little mini recording studio and this would help me determine whether it is worth the extra money to get a USB mixer. Does a USB mixer off any other benefits over a regular mixer?

    Hi,
Which mixer are looking to use?
Have you read that mixers' manual yet?
That more than anything in this forum, will answer your question.
    Cheers

  • Setting up macbook pro with garage band and a mixing desk. NEED HELP ASAP!!

Hi everybody i have an issue which has been an issue for some time now.
i have a Behringer XENYX1222fx mxing desk, and a new macbook pro with the software 10.6.2 i am also using Garage band 09. when using this i am trying to set up my bass guitar through the mixing desk and the DI box which connects through a usb to the mac.
i can not get a signal/level come through to the macbook on garage band. i am getting a signal through on the mixing desk but nothing at all on garage band.
can someone send me the instructions to set it up? is it in system preferences in the input and output i really dont know please can i have as many options as possible.
    Many thanks
    Scott

Scott, I can relate. It's happened to me too!
It's time to play signal chain detective.
First, are you sure you are getting output from your bass? Plug it into an amp and test. (Once I figured out that the battery in my bass had died. New battery: problem solved.)
Once you know you're getting a signal from the bass, then check to be sure the mixer is outputting the signal. Run the outputs from the mixer into an amp.
Once you know your bass and mixer are cooperating, then it is time to engage the interface.
Be sure the preferences for the input to recgonize the interface are set BOTH in GarageBand and the OS generally. The problem is that when you connect an interface, GarageBand will see it and ask if you want to use that or line in. Be sure the interface is selected. For the OS preferences, click on the Apple logo and go to system preferences.
Finally, you might ask a friend to bring over an Apple laptop to eliminate the possibility of something wrong with your MBP, or lug your gear to his or her house, and try it. (Just remember to leave with all the settings restored to how you found them.)
If you live within reach of an Apple store, you can go to the genius bar.
And if nothing works, you can pay for a call to Apple support, or perhaps the support line for the maker of your audio interface.
Good luck. I know it can be frustrating when you want to make music ad you are spending a lot of time horsing around with the technology.

  • How to record on GarageBand with a mixer

    So hey,
after I've solved my problem with how to connect my mixer to my mac, there's another problem that came out.
I'm trying to record on GarageBand and when I do the first track all seem good. But then if I try to record to a second track it automatically records all the previous tracks as well. I have the output of the mixer to my external usb sound card's input and vice versa and on the mixers phones I have my speakers plugged in. Is something wrong with the connections I've made? Any help would be good! Thanx!
    The mixer: Behringer Xenyx 802
    The mac: MacBook (new)
The sound card: Hama C-media USB Audio Devise
    The speakers: Logitech z323

Because the vocals are being recorded as a real instrument you wont be able to record it and drag the track to in a way extend the sound as you can with other tracks. Other tracks you can as they are already installed in the garageband database. If you want a longer real track then the only eway is to play or sing for a longer amount of time.

  • Audio Input Problems with Alesis MultiMix 8 USB Mixer

I have hooked up an Alesis MultiMix 8 USB mixer and condensor Microphone to my new iMac G5's USB port. When going into the Sound Control Panel my input slider for Audio in is grayed out and states that their are no input devices, (I chose the USB input device instead of internal mic.), yet it does pic up the sound from the mixer and mic. Also, I change my preferences in Garageband to use the USB mixer and Mic, but my Track Editor "wave forms at the bottom af Garageband are barely visible, no matter how loud I set the input volume. I used to have very large wave forms in the track editor when using my Logitech USB mic. The sound is fine when played back but it is a real pain when trying to edit in Garageband when I can barely see the wave forms in the track editor. I have tried this set up on my Powerbook also, with the same results. Can someone please help me with the settings using this mixer so I have GOOD usable wave forms in Garageband. Thanks -Swomper

as iSteveus said, you'll only be able to record 2 tracks at most. skim this tute for the solution to your error:

  • Exporting track info from USB mixer

i have recently purchased a Alesis Multimix8 USB mixer board....and it has a direct USB in to my computer....i was told that this particular model works often with Garageband...i was also told that such a model was a plug and play.
when i contacted alesis they said the same thing. so i can only assume it is something i am doing wrong with Garageband. please let me know how i can successfully connect my USB mixer to my computer and actually receive signal.
    thanks,
    erik

The easy thing to do, IF you transfered them from the office PC using copy, you still have access to it, and all the music on your PC and this office PC is the same, is to transfer again with the iTunes Library file.
You will transfer the whole "My Music" folder. inside this folder is the "iTunes" folder with its "iTunes Library.itl" file. this file contains all the song info, playlist ratings ectect. more on the iTunes library can be found here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93732
Another helpful artical for you maybe will be the one for transfering iTunes and music to a new PC using your iPod. Some steps you may not need to do, or have to alter abit, But it will give you a general idea on what you need to do to properly transfer things from one PC to another. An iPod is just a "Specailized" external harddrive after all. heres the link if you want to skim over it http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173

  • I'm trying to record audio into my iPad2 using GarageBand and an iRig, but I can't monitor my tracks at the same time as recording, meaning if I lay down a drum track and attempt to record guitar, I can't hear the drums while recording. Thoughts?

I'm trying to record audio into my iPad2 using GarageBand and an iRig, but I can't monitor my tracks at the same time as recording, meaning if I lay down a drum track and attempt to record guitar, I can't hear the drums while recording. Thoughts?

Hi, I have this exact same problem. I haven't been using an iRig, just a cheap USB-jack cable. I managed to do this with the first cable I bought, but since it broke I've been unable to find a replacement that allows me to hear the drums while recording. DId you manage to get over this issue? If so I would really like to know how. Thanks and best wishes.

  • Recording audio in from 2 turntables and a mixer

Does anyone know the most economical and efficient way to record in to a 13" MacBook Pro using a setup with 2 turntables and a mixer? Is it possible to get good sound using the headphone jack as a line in, or do I need a sound card? Can I just use a 3.5mm to rca jack and something like Audacity? Thanks.

The method you described should work just fine if you take the output from the mixer and route it to the line in on the Mac. You can even use Garageband if you want to.

  • Can't get video production software to recognize USB mixer board

I'm using my new iMac 27" with dual quad Intel i5's to run streaming video to Ustream for a video program. I'm using Wirecast production software. Previously I had an Alesis USB audio mixer, which worked fine until the mixer itself developed a problem. I replaced it with a similar Behringer USB mixer.
When I open the Wirecast video production program, it tells me that it does not recognize the USB video codec. I've posted this problem on the Wirecast forum, but all they can advise me is that there may be some other software that is grabbing hold of the USB video codec before I open Wirecast, and only one piece of software can use the USB video codec at a time.
I know that the signal is getting to the computer via the USB input, as I can hear my microphone tests with headphones plugged into the computer via Garage Band. However, the sound is distorted, a little high and tinny and perhaps doubled.
I also have Ableton Light loaded onto the machine, though of course I do not have it active when I'm running Wirecast.
    Three questions:
    1. How can I make sure that nothing else is trying to use the USB audio codec before I open up Wirecast? Is there anything else that might be causing the problem?
    2. Assuming I have all the effects in Garage Band completely turned off during the mic tests, what could be causing the distortion?
    3. Are there any websites/books, etc, with beginner's information about using audio equipment with the Mac? I know a bit about audio, I used to use tape-based four-trackers to record speeches and I've done some time in serious studios as a performer-- but digital-based recording is fairly new to me.
Many thanks for all help. J.Beau

Log into another user account on your Mac Pro, connect one of your devices via USB and launch iPhoto. Is the device recognized?
If not try booting into Safe Mode, Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode and run the same test.

  • Imic Garageband and Guitar

I Have an acoustic guitar with a pickup and an Ibook G4. I was wondering that if I buy a griffin iMic whether I will be able to use the guitar with garageband without having a preamp. I have tried the guitar on the line in of our eMac and get no sound coming through.
I have read alot of discussions and got mixed imformation.
    Thankyou

When i plug in to the emac even with the sound turned up full on my pickup and the imput volume full on the emac i still get nothing. The only time I get anything is when I press the battery check button on my pickup when i get a small spike of static.
