Garageband crashes when downloading lessons, cannot update

I just started the basic guitar lessons on Garageband 5.0.1, I managed to download the first non-included lesson but now every time I click 'download' on any lesson Garageband freezes and quits unexpectedly.
After some searching, I read that the issues might be fixed by updating to version 5.1, but for some reason the update doesn't show up on my Software Update, if I 'check for updates' in Garageband itself it just tells me about iLife '11, and when I downloaded the update manually from the Apple site it tells me "This update is not necessary. This update only applies to GarageBand 5, part of iLife '09." Maybe the best thing would be to backtrack to v5.0 and try to update again?
Would be massively grateful if anyone knows how to fix the download issue or the software update issue.
Cheers.
EDIT:
In addition, would it be possible to get the lesson files from someone else's Macbook and drag them into the Library/Application Support/Garageband/Learn to Play folder? Would that work?

Bought Quad Core G5 last Wednesday 25th Jan. Everything was fine until this morning when Garageband just would not connect to the USB speakers, even though they have been doing so since day 1. When I select them thru the preferences GB Unexpectedly Quits.
I've done disk repairs booted off installer disk, reinstalled garageband, archived and installed entire system and nothing's worked. GB still Unexpectedly Quits when trying to select the Hardon Karon USB Sound sticks. They work just fine with other apps.
Gone round and round in ever decreasing circles on this one, any suggestions more than welcome.

Have you tried to delete the downloaded version from the Applications folder and to reinstall from the AppStore? Perhaps the download was incomplete.
If that is not the problem, check all your Audio Units, and other plug-ins like VST plug-ins for compatibility, see: GarageBand for Mac (v10.0): Unexpected behavior with Audio Units plug-ins

• Firefox crashing when downloading pictures.

Whenever I try to download a picture file (.pgn, .jpg etc), Firefox stops working and I either have to wait for it to close or terminate the process myself. Picture files will be downloaded despite of Firefox crashing, and they are not corrupted or incomplete. It may not crash when downloading other files types, but those files will not even be downloaded even though it shows as finished in Firefox.
I also deleted downloads.sqlite like the troubleshooting told me and tested it, I have tried to delete everything Mozilla on my computer and reinstall it, and I have started it with all extension turned off, but it's the same.

I did tell it to delete everything during the uninstallation, but even then there were a few files left which I deleted manually.
The rest of my information can be viewed on the right side, by clicking More System Details. If not, here it is. Some is in Norwegian, but you'll make out what is what; most is in English.

When downloading Iphone software update (version 4.0), I get error message (stopped err = -3259). Is there a solution for this???

Did anyone solve this?
I'm still having this issue. I also had the same issue when trying to download a large update for an app (43MB). I can download and install smaller udpates but I can't even download the large updates. I've checked all of my firewall settings and they are fine. I've turned off the firewall when trying to download the update and it still does not work. It just keeps saying that my network connection timed out.
I'm not at the stage where I can't install new apps because it requires the latest OS version on my iphone which I can't get!

Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
See also HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP or HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above reinstall then copy QTMovieWin.dll from:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
and paste into:
C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
The above paths would be for a 64-bit machine. Hopefully the same fix with the " (x86)" omitted would work on 32-bit systems with the same error.

• Quicktime 7.4.1 crash when telling it to update existing software

The problem first appeared after installing Curious World Maps on this computer. World Maps installs Quicktime 7.1 as a way to utilize the file codecs that are included in quictime. In that program, I would render with the format quicktime and when I would try to define which Quicktime codec to use, the system would crash. At first I thought is was World maps so I reinstalled several times with the same results. I then unistalled Quick Time and reinstalled the same version Quicktime 7.1 with the same results. At this point I opened Quictime by itself. It will play animations fine but when I tell it to Update existing Software, it crashes. There is no number error. I've since uninstalled and installed 7.4.1 and have the same results. When going to Update existing software the Quicktime crashes.
A note about my system. it was shipped to me with Windows Vista but World Maps is not tested for Vista so I had to downgrade to Windows XP. I've run all updates for Windows XP and am fully up to date with the latest service pack.

Quicktime would crash when ever I selected update existing software too. I discovered that months ago and forgot about that error. I started doing a search again for a solution and found myself at a forum talking about this problem. The forum suggested going into Edit->Preferences->Quicktime Preferences->Advanced->and checking the bullet that says safe mode from Directx mode. They were discussing a possible problem with nvidia video cards. I tried that and it did not work for me. **But I then randomly gave this a try**. At the same place I increased my cache to half of max. and I check the box for Media Encoding to enable encoding using legacy codexs and hit apply. Miraculousy it fixed the update crashing for me. I didn't try to narrow down the one that fixed it but give this a try. Like I said this is a known problem and I forget what quicktime upgrade I first noticed this problem at. Now it checks for updates and says my software it up to date. No crashing and closing Quicktime.

• Our students have entered passcodes when downloading ios 7 update and now ipads are locked, help!

Our students have entered passcodes when downloading ios 7 update and now ipads are locked, help!

If the iPad is running iOS 7 and the kid set up Find My IPad, then you can't restore it without the kid's Apple ID and password. The Activation Lock is a feature that people whined and whined to get, and is causing exactly the sort of problems many of us predicted when people were clamoring for it. If you can't get the kid's Apple ID, you'll have to call Apple Support and ask if they have any sort of workaround. My guess is that they'll have to replace the iPad, but they may have a solution they don't talk about publicly.
This won't help for iPads currently locked for which you can't get the Apple ID, but if before you give out iPads to your students you go into the Restrictions and disallow changes to the accounts, they can't then turn in Find My iPad. Or you can set up Find My iPad yourselves to your own accounts and then lock the Restrictions so they can't set iCloud up to an account to which you don't have the Apple ID.
Regards.

• Firefox crashes when downloading attachments

For the past several months I have been having an issue with Firefox 3.6.8 and previous version(s) where it crashes when downloading a file. I download many PDFs from the web and our doc control system, so it usually happens on PDFs, but I have had it crash on an Excel 2003 file as well. I download 10 to 20 documents a day and it doesn't crash every day, so it is really random and I can't pin down the exact circumstances nor reliably reproduce it, but it happens a couple times a week. I typically don't close Firefox, so it will be open for up to several days (until it crashes) and I will put my laptop into standby with Firefox open. I will post more information when I can better capture the crash.

I tried all the fixes in https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox+crashes+when+trying+to+download+a+file?s=crashes+when+downloading&as=s but I still get crashes either during or immediately after downloading. Almost all of the below crashes were caused by downloading, most, if not all by PDFs. I am using Acrobat 7 right now because I have the Acrobat Standard and prefer that over the newer version that is only a reader. I am going to try changing to the latest reader instead and see if that fixes this.

• Firefox 17.0.1 on OSX 10.6.8 Crashes on downloads, videos, addon updates also randomly during browsing

Since I updated firefox to 17.0.1 it repeatedly crashes when browsing the web, watching videos, downloading or attempting to download files and even when i'm quitting it says it crashed.
This is after reinstalled it. Prior to that after the update it was stuck in a crash loop and restarting or quitting and reopening would simply crash it repeatedly.

Try to move the current Firefox version to the trash and install a newly downloaded fresh Firefox copy.
You can find the latest Firefox release in all languages and for all Operating Systems here:
*Firefox 17.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes
You can also try to reset Firefox.
If you reset Firefox then a new profile is created and some of your data (bookmarks, passwords, cookies, form data) is automatically imported and your current profile will be moved to the desktop (Old Firefox Data).
You can recover more data from the old profile (be cautious with doing that).

• Safari crashes when downloading or uploading a file on Windows 7

Since a couple of days, whenever I try to download or upload a file through Safari (5.1.7) on Windows 7.
I thought it could be a problem with the recently released iCloud 2.0, since the problem started to occur right around the time iCloud updated.
So I already tried to repair Safari and completely reinstalled Safari as well as iCloud. But Safari keeps crashing every time.
Since this is really annoying, I am hoping that someone here maybe has another idea about how to fix this.
Here is the error message, by the way:
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program: C:\Program Files (x86)\Safari\Safari.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.
Thank you for your help!
PS: Talking about Safari on Windows, when is Safari 6 coming to Windows users? Or better yet, when is the 27" iMac hardware refresh, so I can finally make the switch over to Macintosh?

Unfortunately, I have not found a solution for this problem yet.
But I did find out, that Safari only crashes, when I choose a "custom" location to save the file at. When I simply click on Download to "Safari Downloads", it keeps working perfectly.
So it seems to be a problem with the choosing of a file location.
Does this give anyone an idea what else I could try?
