Garageband error message 8 bit

Garageband had been doing well for us, until the other day when sharing to ITunes, an error message saying, 'unsupported file type, files found at 8 bit...', and i've tried everything to change the file types even online, to reset preferences, including the 'audio midi' and so on.  Still it says that this song, which had previously been successfully uploaded to ITunes, etc., and which we're now re-mixing, will not let us do anything as far as saving or changing to 16 bits and so on. What is going on, please? How may we fix it?   Thanks!
basically: how can i send the song to itunes where it can be converted to an mp3, since the error message occurs 'wrong file type ..8 bit' when i try to send the newly edited song to itunes.
i have, which is not on the list, a macbook pro 10.5.8 and garageband 08 4.1.2

Some of my aif files are not recognized by any player for some reason. All I did was transfer to an external then back to my new hard drive after it was installed. Does anybody know what could happen to an aif file to not make it open?
Do your files have the extension showing? If not, you could experiment adding extensions like .aif, .aiff and see if that makes a difference, and also slide the files directly onto the Quicktime icon, forcing Quicktime to open it if it possibly can.
I was curious about this so I checked it out. The Wikipedia page lists a few issues that could cause problems:

Other than that, the only thing I can think of is file corruption.

  • Error message - 8 bit files?

I am trying to load a file but when it load I get an error message saying there are 8 files that cannot be played because they are in 8 bit format.  However, ALL THESE FILES WERE RECORDED IN LOGIC.  I know they worked at one time because I even bounced the project several times while I was working on it.
I would like to know how Logic would all of the sudden read files as 8 bits and how I might be able to fix it.  Thank you for any help you may have!

Sometimes I start projects on my internal hard drive and move them to the external.  I do not recall if that happened in this instance or not.  But  ihave done it before without issue.
All the recording files are in .caf format
Don't know what to tell you, I always use Broadcast WAV format. If Logic is showing the 8-bit message it almost always means it doesn't recognize or can't read the file "header". This is the part of the file that is a description of the content format, length...etc.
What have you upgraded since using this file? The operating system, Logic?
A possible workaround is to load the files into another program (Amadeus?) and resave them.. or....you might try importing one of them into Logic (as a test) and see if it could be resaved or saved in a different format like aif or wav.

  • New Error Message 64-bit

I installed iTunes 7.5, and there's a new error message when I connect the phone/start iTunes. It used to say use 32 bit version of windows. Now it says:
The iPhone cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64-bit version of iTunes.
This sounds like there should actually BE a 64-bit version of iTunes, but I don't seem to be able to find it. Ideas?

No 64-bit version has been released that I've heard about or can find. The system requirements on Apple's iTunes web page still say that the 32-bit version of Windows is required. I can only guess that this is an error message that was intended for a future version (it certainly would seem to indicate that one is in planning/development) and that it's been inadvertently left in with phrasing that's currently not applicable.

  • Error messages from running Disk Utility

I just ran Disk Utility on my iBook, because it's been behaving erratically of late (e.g., no Low Battery message after a recent battery replacement; and the entire computer sporadically shutting down for no apparent reason, both before and after the recent battery replacement).
The Disk Permissions all tested OK. However, the Verify Disk test resulted in the following error messages:
Volume Bit Map needs minor repair
Invalid volume free block count ... (It should be 7168572 instead of 7168577)",2)
The volume iBook HD needs to be repaired.
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit.
One iBook user (not sure how much experience & expertise) told me the hard drive needs to be replaced. Given that this computer has been in continuous use for over 5 years now, maybe he's right.
Is there a repair that will fix these problems? ... and if so, how? ... what do I need to do? Or, is it time to replace the hard drive?
We're very happy with this computer and would continue using it for several years more if these problems can be fixed without too much inconvenience or expense.
    Thanks,

Insert the Mac OS X install disc.
Restart the computer while holding the C key.
When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    Click the First Aid tab.
Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
Select your Mac OS X volume.
Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.

  • How do I install Elements for Windows 7 PC with 64 bit? Get error message - file archive part missing

We purchased Elements 12 and Premiere Elements 12 on September 7, 2014 and have tried a variety of things including searching through FAQs on the Adobe site, etc. etc. and cannot get our downloads to work. We are avid computer users and have never had problems downloading software before.
From our account under "orders" - I have tried clicking on the Akamai download manager and the Alternate Download Method on for each application with the same results.
We have a Windows 7 PC with a 64 bit operating system and Internet Explorer 11.
On all attempts we get an Adobe screen with 2 links – 1 for a file ending in .7z and a 2nd file ending in .exe.
I click on the first file and confirm the download completes at 100% (not paused, etc.) and is in the downloads folder for my user name on the PC.
I click on the 2nd link for .exe and I receive the error message below – 2nd screen shot – “file archive is missing” all folders/files must be in same folder.
So I see it’s a winzip file (as a winzip pop up folder had come up also) so I download the free version and unzip the files in the same downloads folder under my user name to try that.
I click on .exe file link again and same message. I tried copying the files directly to the downloads folder (as they all unzipped into a subfolder called PSE 12 and tried clicking on .exe again but get the same message.
For Premiere I tried the same and got same results on the 64 bit version download.
I do not know how to access the software we purchased.
Any help or advice is appreciated.
Also - if anyone knows how I can contact Adobe for a full refund so I can just buy the boxed software instead - that would be helpful as well as that is not easy to find online either.
    Thanks!

I get an error message saying that the quicktime installer will only work on 32 bit
The QuickTime player works on 64-bit systems. (It's a 32-bit application, but it should run fine using the standard 32-bit-on-64-bit Windows-on-Windows emulation.)
What's the precise text of your installation error message, dc? (There one or two different ones I can think of that might mention 32-bit)

  • How to install InDesign CS6 from disk on a Windows 8.1 (64-bit) PC when installation fails after the first initialization of installation program, without error message?

I have a (legally purchased) disc with InDesign CS6 that I want to install on a PC with Windows 8.1 (64-bit). After I've double-clicked the Set-up.exe file on the disc, a box is displayed showing the progress of the initialization of the installation program. When the coloured bar in the box is full – indicating that this step is completed – the installation stops and nothing more happens. No error messages are displayed.
I can't find any useful instructions in the Adobe Help pages more than a note that there is support for also Windows 8.1 even though the system requirements printed on the disc box only lists Windows XP and Windows 7. I don't know how to make this work. Does anybody here have any suggestions? I'd be ever so grateful for any tips.

Is anyone else having this problem?  Please help.  Thanks.

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

Initially iTunes would not run although it had been running quite well up until now. • Error message: "application.exe has stopped working" under BEX event name on Windows 7 64-bit.

I am trying to run a third party program on my Windows 7 64-bit. It has an executable file.
    1. When I double click on this file (appname.exe), I will see a GUI window.
    2. In this GUI window, I will have to select a dynamic link library file (appDLL.dll) to load into the appname.exe that will run the application. This DLL file is compiled in Visual C++ 2010 Express based on a C source code under the Release Win32

    3. It is supposed to run after step 2. Instead it give the BEX error message saying "appkernel.exe has stop working." There is no online solution at this time when I select that option to search for an online solution.

    Hi Brian,
    Thank you for the reply!
The third party software provider wrote the source code in C. When I compiled this source code, the DLL file will be created in store in the Release folder in the same project directory of the source code.
I just double check my computer, I have the following Visual C++ packages installed on it:
    1. Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable
    2. Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable (x64)
    3. Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x64 9.0.21022

I tried to open a file recorded in garageband and got an error message that said, "The file couldn’t be opened because it isn’t in the correct format. The file might be corrupted, truncated, or in an unexpected format."
I need to listen to this file today for a class (it was an interview with someone that i did for a project and i cannot re-do the interview), but it won't open.  The file extension still says .band so I don't know what the problem is.  I did earlier accidentally try and open it using itunes, but it doesn't show that it changed anything in the file.
How do I access this file?

how would I do this?  When I look at the package contents, the only thing in there is a folder called "output" which contains a file called "Output.aif"
I don't understand how this happened, all i did was try to open the file in the wrong program on accident.  I really need this for a class and will pretty much be screwed if I can't get it.  Is there anywhere else where I could just find the sound file?  I didn't even do anything fancy with it, just recorded and saved
