Garageband export distorted

When I'm exporting my project from garageband 11 to itunes or my hard drive, the track is distorted (especially the bass drum is distorted, sounds really bad). In my project a have: programmed drums, real bass guitar and electric guitar. No track shows red on the bar, not even close. It sounds good in GB but not when i export. I'm aware of the "Export project at full loudness" button. When i tick it in my exported track sound ok, but the sound is toooo low! I want the same volume as any other song. I tried what this guy is doing but it doesn't work for me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCHnXloH8_Y it still sound distorted.
My import levels were not too high when i recorded bass and guitar.
All I want is my project to sound as good it does in GB when i export, and with full loudness...
Had the same problem for years and feels like i tried everything, tried with different recordings/songs etc. Been many hours trying to fix it.
Help anyone? really need it.
Thanks \m/

I think i got a way to solve this issue. I worked with a projekt with about 20 tracks with real instruments, With good volume after export, here's what i did:
1. Make sure that your input signal isn't to high (I Use a firewire interface to plug in guitars, keyboar and vocals). You have to make sure that there's no distortion on input. Espesially with intruments with bass.
2. The track volymepanels to the left can't show any yellow or red, not even close, my loudest track was about 50%.
3. Before you export turn down your master volyme down to the right, alot. (around 20-40% maybe...)
4. export to disk, NOT to itunes. Desame song on itunes (withot any equalizers or extra volyme) sound distorted, but not if i send it to disc. I have no idé why........!
5.then send the same song back to GB, and do what this guy's doing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCHnXloH8_Y
turn up the peaklimiter as much as you want or intill it sounds bad and distorted.
6. I exported with the "project at full loudness" button ticked in both times and it worked for me. I also compressed to mp3 both times. the "project at full loudness" button has to be ticked in the second time when you use the peakLimiter anyway.
Be really certain of number 1 and 2. Still experimenting with this so let me know if it worked

After reverting back to Garageband 6.0, I find that I still lack all the Garageband Effects (Distortion, Vocal Transformer, etc.). The Garageband 10 "AU" plug ins are there instead.
For background: I lost my v6 because I had to reformat my whole hard drive. When I reformatted I lost GB and everything else I had. I downloaded GB (unaware of the awfulness that is v10) from the App Store. The fact that v10 does not have all my favorite and most used effects from v6, I uninstalled v10 and redownloaded v6 from my App Store Purchases. I load up v6 only to find that all the default effects are there for each instrument, but when I go to add an effect (i.e. Distortion, Vocal Transformer, Flanger, etc.), instead of the list of classic effects, there's the list of awful AU effects from v10. What gives?!

I don’t have this issue, but I am looking to learn about which parts of the old GarageBand can safely migrate to the new GarageBand 10.
(Personally, I like most of what changed in the new version.  I sorely miss a few features, and I submitted some detailed feedback.  If you think similarly—or if you hate the new version like babygotbackup—do the GarageBand community a favor, and send in your own feedback!  From the menu, select GarageBand ▶︎ Provide GarageBand Feedback.)

For me, the "Edit" panel in GB6.0.5 looks like this:
Are you saying, that the upper part with "GarageBand Effects" is missing?
Then check, what is installed in your System Library in the folder
    /Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Instrument Library/
(the topmost "Library" folder on your Hard Drive.
You may need to restore the old GarageBand effects and Track settings files from your backup:
    i.e look into the folder /Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Instrument Library/Plug-In Settings/
and restore the settings for Chorus, Flanger, Vocal Transformer, Tremolo, whatever effects you are missing.
And also look for missing files in "Track Settings" folder and "Sampler" folder.
What kind of backup do you have? If you have a Time MAchine backup, go back in time to the time before you upgraded to GB 10.

  • Help. Garageband guitar distortion

I've recently upgraded to Snow Leopard and now, when I create a real instrument track in Garageband for my guitar, the output sound is badly distorted like a broken speaker. The bad sound occurs when I am plugged in with my m-audio usb recording interface, or my Lightsnake guitar chord which is a direct usb chord. So the cause is neither the m-box or the lightsnake (I've tried both in every usb port). I've tried it with all other usb ports unplugged, different chords, same result. I've got everything selected correctly in main sound preferences and an garageband prefs. The crackling sound occurs with two different guitars with two different cords.
My M-audio Keystation 49e usb keyboard works fine. However, if I create a real instrument guitar track, the keyboard starts making the same terrible output noise, even though it's a different track. Delete the guitar track and the keyboard track returns to normal.
I've used Garageband for four years without a problem.
I've posted about this maddening dilemma before but haven't received any suggestions as of yet.

Is the level of your guitar track clipping?

  • Garageband exports my audio's volume too low

So occasionally Garageband decides to export my audio with an outcome that is too low to hear. The audio sounds perfect while it's recording in Garageband itself, but once it exports to an mp3 and try to play it in Itunes or Quicktime, it's way too low. Anyone know how to fix this?

What are your settings for "auto normalize" in Garageband's Preferences > Audio?
Try, if changing that setting helps.
And check the corresponding options in iTunes, to see, if you have options enabled, that change the sound of your GarageBand songs: Sound Enhancer, Soundcheck. If you enabled those options, turn them off.

  • Tiff export distortion. Help!!

I have been trying to export tiffs (16-bit, original size) in Aperture (3.0.3), but they come out looking terrible. These are tiff imports of film scans. They look great in Aperture, but when I export them and open them in preview they are distorted, grainy, huge "snowy" grain. Exported as jpegs they look fine--just tiffs seem to be effected. And this seems to be a recent problem. I have successfully exported tiffs since upgrading to 3. The only thing different here is that these files have been processed with noise ninja. Could this be the issue? If yes, then why are only tiffs affected. Like I say, jpegs still look fine. And why do they display fine in Aperture?
    Any help would be appreciated!

An update. This seems to be an issue with how Preview scales large images. The images in question are film scans that are something like 3.5 feet wide at native resolution. When I zoom in to 100% the distortion goes away. It is only when scaled smaller than 100% that the distortion is present. This is reassuring, but still problematic, as I obviously cannot always view these images full size. Anyone else run into this problem? Any suggestions?

  • Garageband exports file with wrong filename

I have been using garageband to export our church's podcasts for 3 years now.
But for the last two weeks the poscast filename ends up being the same file from 3 weeks ago.
I have a file that I use as a starter template.
I import the new audio and save it in a new folder for that month under the name of the sermon + the date.
When I export now the file name is not of the file that I saved but that of one I had created 3 weeks ago.
I then did a test and exported a new podcast not using the template and I get the same results.
Any thoughts...I guessed the GB forum the best to start with not sure it is GB or iTunes. I'm on a mac running the latest versions of OSX, GB, & iTunes.

Do it like in the mentioned blog, but don't do any mapping. That will be fine.

Check your EAR if there are any libs from the adapter framework and delete them if necessary.
After deployment check in your visual administrator if your EAR is available.

  • Garageband export volume - too high!

Please can someone help me with this because it's driving me insane. I have a copy of Garageband '11.
I'm trying to record a simple piano/guitar piece of music. All finished, and just want to export it now.
I find that when I export the file, no matter which volumes I change, it comes out at the same volume. Too loud. I know the normal complaint is it's too low. Mine is that no matter what I reduce (master volume, individual instrument volumes etc) I cannot get it any lower.
I'm tried not compressing the file on exporting. Makes no difference. I've tried sending to iTunes instead of exporting. Makes no difference. I've tried playing in different players [e.g. vox] makes no difference.
Please can someone help me with this?
The advice online seems to be that if you reduce the master volume meter thing, then the export volume will be lower. This is not the case. At least, not for me.
    Any advice/pointers GREATLY appreciated : )
    Thanks

turn off Auto Normalize in GB's prefs first

  • Random Photos export distorted

I am having a problem with photos in Premiere CS6. I render the sequence and the photos play back fine, but after exporting as a windows media file, random photos are distorted. I have exported the sequence several times and the problem then moves to a different photo. What could be causing this?

    Hard to say.
Start by using a different player, like VLC or KM Player.  Do they also exhibit the issue?

  • Export= distorted image...?

    hey!
I'm using standard pal 48 on capture, project settings and export. image/video look fine in fcp viewer when capturing and editing, but when exported, it gets streched vertically (cirlce becomes an oval). this happens nomatter what format i export it in, (except sometimes (seems randomly) it works with H264.) and if i export it in compressor, as quicktime movie or using quicktime convention...
even a quicktime moviefile imported in compressor, and exported to dvd, looks fine in software viewer/preview, but comes out distorted.
    please help!

To view your widescreen file in QuickTime Player:
Press command and J keys. In the Properties window, click on "Presentation". Click the checkbox next to "Conform Aspect Ratio" and choose "Clean". Do not save the file in this format unless it is only going to be viewed on a computer.
In DVD Studio Pro, click the green icon that shows the thumbnail of your film, in the graphic display at top left. Go to the Inspector at bottom right. Click on the "Display Mode" button and change it to 16:9 Letterbox.

  • Garageband: exporting tracks shorter than 5 seconds

In Garageband I'm trying to export audio tracks that are not much longer than 1-2 seconds long - really short projects! - but when I do export them and then play them in my iTunes they are now about 5 seconds long. This is a bit lengthy for what I want them for. Is there any way of exporting a project that can be any shorter than 5 seconds? Anyone know?

thanks for the 'oddball' pointer, and the 'zoom slider' thingy! I didn't know about these things. I tried them both and I really thought I would get it working this time but for some annoying reason my 1.5ish second project always exports with about 3 extra seconds of blank play time at the end. ARRRGH! It's always the small problems that really get me!! Thanks for all you're effort so far!!!!!
    THE STEPS I TAKE:
    1. I make sure the orange track is pulled back to 0 secs
    2. I press the cycle region button [the button with the two little recycling/circling arrows(which is right next to the play and skip buttons)]
    3. I use the zoom slider (very useful!! thanks) and then adjust the orange cycle region [which appears on the beat ruler] so that it is the same length [EXACTLY] as my 1.5ish length track.
    4. I try to pull the little end-of-track marker [the purple arrow] back [to the left] but will only come as far as 14:00 seconds?? weird!
    5. Then finally I go to 'Share' in the menu bar and 'Export Podcast to Disk...'
    6. I double-click my exported .m4a file which opens automatically in my iTunes but "lo and behold!!" it's no longer a 1.5 second track but a 5 sec one!!!!!!!!!!!!
I want to keep my 1.5ish sec track 1.5 even after it is exported. Is it possible?
My Garageband keeps adding those extra 3 seconds on the end when I export!!!!???
Is there an option I haven't selected?

  • Garageband export to wav? How much "damage" to quality if compressed?

I've made several songs with Garageband which I want to export to my album. I am thinking of ways to get the best possible quality out of Garageband. It doesn't seem to have .wav export so I need to either export it to .m4a or .mp3 OR do a workaround and record the output of my Mac to another recording device (but that's difficult to do since my project doesn't play smoothly because of so many instruments and effects). Oh yeah and then there's option to open the project with Logic Pro 9 that I also have BUT it doesn't sound the same at all and the mixer settings are way off compared to Garageband.
Can anyone explaing in simple terms what kind of damage to my songs quality does compressing to, for example, 320kbps mp3? I know it's not really an audible quality loss, but it's still something that bothers me.
Or is there any other way?

If you want CD quality don't use compression at all. Then GarageBand will export in AIFF format, the quality you get on a CD. You can compress it later to m4a or mp3 in iTunes, when your album is finished.
Simply disable the "compress" button in the export panel, when you share your song to iTunes.

  • HDV Export Distortion

When I export an HDV sequence, the resulting quicktime file plays well except for a couple places where I get major distortion in one frame. It seems like this occurs at places in the video where there is a lot of moving images and brighter colors. If I play over the spot enough time it eventually goes away (until I close and reopen the file). The problem is that this distortion does not go away when I burn to DVD. Any thoughts on how I might fix this?
Here is a screenshot I was able to luckily capture right on one of the defective frame as the video was playing:

CalDigit FireWire VR with plenty of free space. I'm going to try to export to my internal and see what happens. Thanks for the idea.
O wait, do you think its more of an issue concerning the source of the captured video, rather than the destination of the exported video? Because I can export to my internal but if the issue is the captured video on my external then that doesnt do me any good. Thoughts?
