Garageband: exporting tracks shorter than 5 seconds

In Garageband I'm trying to export audio tracks that are not much longer than 1-2 seconds long - really short projects! - but when I do export them and then play them in my iTunes they are now about 5 seconds long. This is a bit lengthy for what I want them for. Is there any way of exporting a project that can be any shorter than 5 seconds? Anyone know?

thanks for the 'oddball' pointer, and the 'zoom slider' thingy! I didn't know about these things. I tried them both and I really thought I would get it working this time but for some annoying reason my 1.5ish second project always exports with about 3 extra seconds of blank play time at the end. ARRRGH! It's always the small problems that really get me!! Thanks for all you're effort so far!!!!!
THE STEPS I TAKE:
1. I make sure the orange track is pulled back to 0 secs
2. I press the cycle region button [the button with the two little recycling/circling arrows(which is right next to the play and skip buttons)]
3. I use the zoom slider (very useful!! thanks) and then adjust the orange cycle region [which appears on the beat ruler] so that it is the same length [EXACTLY] as my 1.5ish length track.
4. I try to pull the little end-of-track marker [the purple arrow] back [to the left] but will only come as far as 14:00 seconds?? weird!
5. Then finally I go to 'Share' in the menu bar and 'Export Podcast to Disk...'
6. I double-click my exported .m4a file which opens automatically in my iTunes but "lo and behold!!" it's no longer a 1.5 second track but a 5 sec one!!!!!!!!!!!!
I want to keep my 1.5ish sec track 1.5 even after it is exported. Is it possible?
My Garageband keeps adding those extra 3 seconds on the end when I export!!!!???
Is there an option I haven't selected?

  • Video Exported is Shorter than Expected

    I have a very frustrating  problem that makes absolutely no sense to me. I have a 1920 x 1080, 29.97fps  timeline in Premiere Pro CS5. The duration of my work are is 06:54:08. Upon exporting, the resulting video file comes out at 06:36:00 in length.
    I of course did not check this initially, so I went ahead and did a complete audio post mix in Pro Tools using the exported file as reference. Then to my horror, attempting to bring the finished mix back into Premiere, it was 18 seconds shorter than it should have been!! I thought I could fix it by stretching the mix to fit, but the sync is completely off no matter what I try.
    My export settings were H264, 640x360, 29.97 fps.
    Can anyone explain to me how and why Premiere would export a video file that is shorter in duration than what the timeline says it's supposed to be?
    I wasted hours in audio post because of this and am extremely frustrated..

    Hi Jeff,
    The entire pacing is shortened throughout, and it's completely unnoticable when you watch it. This is why I thought nothing of it and went ahead with an audio mix.
    My source footage is from .MTS files taken directly off of a Canon Vixia camcorder. Shot at 1920 x 1080. Here's the properties of one of the clips:
    My sequence was created by dragging this file to "New Item", so there can't be a mismatch, right?

  • My WMV export is shorter than area I've slected in the timeline!

    So I've got a 10 second mpg which I need to export as a WMV. I'm using flip for mac codec. It all seems to work fine but when I play the exported mpg it's only 5 seconds long. Any ideas?

    Do you just have the trail version of flip4mac?
    Do you have IN and OUT points set in the Timeline?
    when I play the exported mpg it's only 5 seconds long.<<</div>
    I thought you said the exported file was WMV format ... which is it? WMV or MPG?

  • Exported video shorter than it should be

    I've got a strange problem with exporting my videos from After Effects CS4.  No matter what format I render as, my video, which is 1:07, exports as a 35 second video.  I should say that, when I open it, in a number of media players, it says it's 35 seconds.  In some players, it plays all the way to 1:07 (but the clock stops changing at 35), and in others, it stops completely at 35.  The player I need it to play in (for a monitor system in my office), stops it at 35.  Any ideas why the video may be acting like this?

    My composition is HDTV 1080 29.97, and it's all graphical.  No imported video footage.  There are a few imported illustrator files, and the rest is made in AE.  I've exported to Windows Media HDTV 1080 29.97, MPEG 2 DVD NTSC Widescreen 29.97, h.264 Blu-Ray HDTV 1080p 29.97, as well as AVI, FLV and MPEG.
    For playback, I've used Windows Media Player, VLC Player, Media Player Classic and MagicInfo-i Player.  There is no audio in this project either.
    Thanks for your help.

  • ITunes 11 - Songs less than 10 seconds long - Play count doesn't increase

    The title pretty much sums up my problem. Installed iTunes 11 a couple of days ago and have noticed that any track less than 10 seconds long (of which I have quite a few) will play okay in iTunes but the play count doesn't increase when the track finishes. Anything 10 seconds or above increments fine.
    However, if the same short tracks are played on the iPod then it is synced, the play count goes up no problems.
    Is this a "feature" of version 11 or a glitch does anyone know?

    I recently started having the same identical problem when playing iTunes on my computer (WinXP).  Songs play and move between computer and iPod without problems. Songs under 10 seconds are noticably affected. The number of plays and last date played do not increment.  Haven't seen longer songs affected but really haven't been watching until now.  In one case increased the song length from 10 to 12 seconds. It now works.  But songs that did work that are under 10 seconds, now don't. Currently using v 11.0.2.06.  Nothing new installed on computer.

  • Exporting Track that is less than 7 seconds

    I have run into this problem time and time again. I use Garageband to edit short clips and can't seem to get the "end" arrow past 7 seconds. For example, I'm trying to export 3 different pieces of audio (:03, :02, :04 seconds long.) When I try to export, it makes a :07 file.
    Any advice??

  • When i export a video in windows media format is shorter than the original

    I tried a lot of time, using Quicktime 7.3.1, to convert a .mov video to a Windows Media .wmv video using the default settings but the result is shorter than original, my original video is 4 minutes, the exported just 30 seconds.
    Maybe is my fault, something wrong in my laptop or a Quicktime bug?
    I hope someone can help me
    Thanks, Marco.

    You have the trail of Flip-4-Mac. You need to buy the full version to be able to convert to WVM.

  • Skipping track after less than 1 second

    I have downloaded iOS7, and I tried to delete some track from iTunes that I never listen to. Somehow, several of the songs on my iPhone have now started to skip onto the next track after less than a second of playing. I can still play the songs from iTunes on my PC, so I seem to have done something with the phone and I don't know what! I changed the settings from 'Phone' to 'Library' in the 'shared' music menu - I think that's what caused the problem, as now it seems fine having just changed it back. It's so frustrating that you can't get rid of music you don't want on your phone! There must be a way of doing it without shelling out for Match.

    Do you have a circle with a red square next to some of your songs in your music app on your phone?

  • Mp3 export to disk adds ~2 seconds

    when I export(mp3) to disk a track I get ~2 seconds of extra blank time added to end of the track. I do not want any added time at all. I can turn on the "cycle region" and with trial and error reduced the added time to a very small amount but this is very time consuming and since I will need to export many short tracks to disk I really do not want to do this.
    Is there a way to get Garageband to not add extra time at the end of the track that I export?
    tks
    Dennis

    Hi, Jose,
    I want the mixdown to be uncompressed.
    Then you want to Share to iTunes so it will be an AIFF file.

  • Logic's EXPORT TRACK(S) feature is buggy. Anyone else noticing this?

    I'm curious to know what Logic's "export track(s)" functions are specifically designed for. I say specifically because I can't quite pinpoint how they work exactly. Meaning, if a track has sends or sidechain processing etc etc those effects are NOT APPLIED to the exported track. Further, I've noticed static in a file (which doesn't have static in the mix) appear on an exported track, also I've experienced out of sync delays and other issues.
    My first question is: has anyone else found the export track feature in Logic to be somewhat inefficient, and if so, have you found a suitable work around?
    Second question: What is the Export tracks function specifically designed for? It's not designed to print certain effects on tracks and it doesn't apply any sends data either.
    Please chime in with any thoughts. My personal workaround right now is to simply solo each track and bounce the project at the global level (for every individual track). I keep the output strip dry and it seems to be working fine so far (but quite tedious). I'm scratching my head to know what "export track(s)" is designed for.
    Thanks!

    I'm still unsure as to why you'd actually want to do this.
    If you want to give your processed tracks to a mixing engineer, first thing he will do is ask, for the dry material, because, after all, you are paying him to create abetter mix with better procesing than you can.
    If you want to save processing power or RAM, then use Freeze.
    If you want to create processed tracks for riskfree playback in a live situation, you'd bounce stems anyway.
    Also, the request for incorporated Sends does not make sense, as a send only carries dry, unprocessed sound anyway.
    Christian
    Well you are right about the "live situation" scenario. This is why I'd like a "bounce all individual tracks seperately" option. It would facilitate exporting tracks for remixing or performance in Ableton Live. It's a lot nicer to have every track as it sounds in a mix than to have groups or stems when remixing or performing.Right now it just takes a while to solo and bounce every track in a 40+ track project. I just think it would be a very useful function.

  • Ken Burns on photos greater than 60 seconds?

    I want to have one photo showing for the full 4:45 duration of a song with a slow, smooth, Ken Burns pan from beginning to end. Is there a way to do this? I tried on iMovie HD and iMovie '08 but can not find out how. It looks like to get greater than 60 seconds you have to import the photo 5 times (4 with a 60 sec duration and 1 with a 45 sec duration). How can you then apply a single Ken Burns effect across all 5 photos as if they were one photo? I tried to make a Podcast in GarageBand and there I could make the photo as long as I wanted with the music but there is no Ken Burns effect available there. I saved the podcast and then imported it into iMovie to apply the Ken Burns effect but it is not available to videos in iMovie, which it what the photo turns into after GarageBand saves it. Any help would be appreciated.

    Is there a way to group the photos and apply a KBE across the grouping?
    No. The KBE tool can currently only be applied to a single image.
    If you are willing to trade quality for time in a Ken Burns Effect, you can always create a new iMovie HD project of the appropriate type/aspect ratio, bring in the photo, create the KBE at the length you want, export it to an iMovie '08 compatible compression format, and then import the file to iMovie '08. Just remember that iMovie HD handles photos at a lower resolution than iMovie '08 and the resulting loss in quality will probably be easy to see in comparison with other photos coming directly into iMovie '08.
    Karsten,
    Those are beautiful effects. My complements! Will have to try doing more work with stills using pre-edits in Photoshop.

  • Export to mora than one excel sheet.

    Hello Marvel team,
    I am looking to do something related to the export of data to an excel file and I am asking if one of you has do something like the following :
    I need, on a click on a button export some data to more than one sheet in the same excel file.
    I looked to what askTom propose, with the sylk format:
    http://asktom.oracle.com/pls/ask/f?p=4950:8:::::F4950_P8_DISPLAYID:728625409049
    and this can resolve my problem in part, with sylk I can have what I want but only in one sheet and for me it's very important that I can export to more than one sheet in the same excel file.
    Thanks for any help!
    Jina.

    Using POI, you can create a native Excel Workbook with more than one Worksheet.
    For a first step using POI follow the steps posted under:
    "Export to Microsoft Excel from PLSQL Procedure"
    Re: Export to Microsoft Excel from PLSQL Procedure
    The following examples creates an excel with more than one sheet (and does a little bit of formating).
    Load this as described above to your 10g Database and build a pl/sql wrapper function around it:
    -- bof --
    import java.io.*;
    import org.apache.poi.hssf.usermodel.*;
    import org.apache.poi.hssf.util.*;
    public class HelloExcel {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    HelloExcel d = new HelloExcel();
    d.write(null);
    public static String write(String text) {
    String result = "successful";
    HSSFWorkbook wb = new HSSFWorkbook();
    HSSFSheet sheet1 = wb.createSheet("first sheet");
    HSSFSheet sheet2 = wb.createSheet("second sheet");
    // style
    HSSFCellStyle style = wb.createCellStyle();
    style.setFillForegroundColor(HSSFColor.LIME.index);
    style.setFillPattern(HSSFCellStyle.SOLID_FOREGROUND);
    HSSFFont font = wb.createFont();
    font.setColor(HSSFColor.RED.index);
    style.setFont(font);
    HSSFRow row = null;
    HSSFCell cell = null;
    // Create a row and put some cells in it. Rows are 0 based.
    row = sheet1.createRow((short)0);
    // Create a cell and put a value in it.
    cell = row.createCell((short)0);
    cell.setCellValue(1);
    cell.setCellStyle(style);
    // Or do it on one line.
    row.createCell((short)1).setCellValue(1.1);
    row.createCell((short)2).setCellValue("This is a string 1");
    row.createCell((short)3).setCellValue(true);
    // Create a row and put some cells in it. Rows are 0 based.
    row = sheet2.createRow((short)0);
    // Create a cell and put a value in it.
    cell = row.createCell((short)0);
    cell.setCellValue(1);
    // Or do it on one line.
    row.createCell((short)1).setCellValue(1.2);
    row.createCell((short)2).setCellValue("This is a string 2");
    row.createCell((short)3).setCellValue(false);
    // Write the output to a file
    try {
    FileOutputStream fileOut = new FileOutputStream("c:\\temp\\HelloExcel.xls");
    wb.write(fileOut);
    fileOut.close();
    } catch(Exception ex) {
    result = ex.getMessage();
    return result;
    -- eof --
    hope that helps,

  • IPad Garageband export problem

    My ipad GB songs have always exported perfectly to my pc via email and soundcloud. I recently 'renamed' some...and now when I email or upload to soundcloud...they come out muffled on both. This only happens on my PC. If I open my email or soundcloud with my iPhone or iPad, they sound fine. Have no idea why?
    The only other manipulation of the tracks other than renaming them was 'selecting all' of the tracks within a song and moving them a measure or two to give a few seconds of silence before the track kicked in.
    Other older exported tracks that I did not rename still play fine on my PC.
    Thanks so much for any help anyone can provide. Really want my songs to work on soundcloud for PC users.
