Garageband guitar lags on macbook
Hi,
I hope someone can help me with this one...
Just got my new macbook 2.4ghz with 2gb RAM, plugged in my guitar with the griffin lead I've used for a few years with my G4 iMac, and the guitar from the macbook speakers lags way behind what I play.
Garageband works great on my G4 iMac, so I kind of figured it would be better on macbook! What's happening? is it the new garageband? the audio in?
Thanks in advance for any help,
Steve
Turn the "Enhance timing" down in garageband located in the lower left corner when you open the edit bar, this botton is located next to the "EYE" botton or go into preferences and Adjust the audio settings.

hi, i bought a irig to connect my guitar on my macbook pro 2012, but when i use the irig in my mac, it doesnt recognize, so i cant choose it on preferences of sound, what can i do? (the sound of my guitar goes by IRIG but I can not hear due to feedback and when I try to record another track on the garageband, the sounds recorded on the new track is catching the sound of another track recorded)
Turn the internal mic level off. Use headphones as monitors.

Hey ngt135,
Depending on which version of GarageBand you're using, check this out for GarageBand '11:
GarageBand '11 - Record an electric guitar

And this one for the new version of GarageBand:

For Garageband Use only - RevA Macbook Air 1.6 80Gb HDD or 1.8 64Gb SSD?
Hi,
I'm about to buy a refurb Rev A Macbook Air for only using Garageband. (Reasons for choosing it over Macbook are portability and screen quality).
Am I going to notice any difference between the 2 models (1.6 80Gb HDD and 1.8 64Gb SSD) for pure Garageband use?
- I'm mainly going to be using the software instruments/loops (but might on a rare occasion record in an audio track - never more than one per song though). I don't think I'd ever get to more than 16 tracks, probably maxing at about 8.
As they are $300 apart.
Also am I going to be able to run Garageband with an ease comparable to running it a new low-end macbook? As I know the RevA's get hot under the collar with some apps. I tried Garageband on the white macbook today and it was fine - quick, smooth and easy - but obviously there were no RevA Macbook Airs instore to compare.
Final question - as this will be my first mac and I have only tried garageband on a few occasions - what is the size of an average Song file with no audio running about 8 tracks of midi (so I can figure out how many I can get on the harddrive).
Many thanks for any opinions/answers/comments - all input is much appreciated.Since you haven't mentioned how you attempted formatting the drive:
Drive Preparation
1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.)
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. -
Griffin GarageBand Guitar Cable for connection
Can I use the Griffin GarageBand Guitar cable to connect my Yamaha mixer to my G5 tower. It's a 1/4" connector to a 1/8" mini-jack.
Thanks for your help! You'll need to tell us more about your setup.
It could be any number of things, like what effects are you using?
Or did you know that where your guitar is placed in relation to other electronics can create a magnetic field that is picked up by the guitars pickups? Try moving your guitar around by facing it in other directions and see if that helps.
Without more info though, that's all I can suggest.
Good luck.

I want to move Garageband '11 from my macbook pro to my imac.
I want to move Garageband '11 from my macbook pro to my imac. How can i do this simply? Migraiton assistant wants to move all my apps. Can i pick just one?
AFAIK, Garageband is part of the iLife 11 suite, so you either need to move all or none of it. And, the SLA mentions specifically that it can only be installed on one Mac at a time - that is for the regularly purchased (or included with the system) disks. If you purchased it at the App store separately, then you should be able to have it on more than one computer. See this SLA excerpt:

Help needed : Hooking up my guitar to my Macbook Pro
Hi guys, I'm still learning to use my MBP, but I can't for the life of me get any sound from my guitar to play through my MBP. I've hooked the output from my guitar amp (Peavey Blazer 158 15watts) to my line in port using a 3.5mm plug. I've checked the audio setting in preferences and audio midi setup in the audio midi setting in Utilities, all seems ok..like..when I strum my guitar I can actually see the blue bars going up on the input level monitor, but there's still no sound through my speakers.I've gone through the forums and I've read that the line input needs a pre-amped signal, but I think my guitar amp signal should be strong enough. I hope someone can explain what's the correct way to hook up my guitar to my MBP. Thanks.
MacBook Pro 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 80GB Ipod video Mac OS X (10.4.10)Hey there Stedman, thanks for the quick reply. I thought that there was something wrong with my line in port. I tried your advice and used garageband, and I finally got to hear my guitar through my MBP. Too bad the sound banks that garageband has really *****. Might look around for an app to get for my guitar. Anyway... thanks again for your help.

Help, I can't play my electric guitar on my MacBook
I thought I had all the settings correct, but all I get is feedback. Any suggestions for getting somewhat decent sound? I tried this before on an iMac and it worked ok.
thanksIn system preferences, I used line-in for input and for output, internal speakers (the only choice). Volume in system preferences is mid to high. In preferences for GarageBand, for Audio/MIDI, I have built-in output and built-in input. For the effects for the guitar in the Real Instrument track, I have amp simulation checked.
And I have Monitor checked.
The guitar is connected to the MacBook via a cable in the audio port.
Am I missing anythihng?
I'm using Tiger operating system. -
I bought a new 13" MacBook Pro with retina (mid 2014). It didn't have pages, keynote, numbers and garageband pre installed. I managed to install all except garageband. How can I get that installed without having to pay for it since it was supposed to have come preinstalled?

Photoshop cs6 lags on macbook pro retina 15'
Recently I got my hands on photoshop cs6 but my brush lags quite a bit while using it. This happens when I'm zooming in to do minor details or if I'm using a brush more than 200
I've heard good things about design production on macbooks but so far I've seen the opposite. Is there anyway to solve the brush lag problem from Apple's end?I am using a student version which is running atm on a windows 7 64 bit macbook pro retina 15. The best thing i can try doing is downgrade to CS5. Though i'm positively sure if I installed photoshop less than a few weeks ago, it would be at the latest...

Here's what I'll post to help you guys -
I used to play my guitar thru my PC using a line 6 Guitar port, Then I could play along with Guitar Pro tabs or MP3's. Now I have the Guitar Pro software on my Mac Air and I neeed an interface (which I can get at the Appple store- guitar plug to USB) but I neeed a suggestion for what software to run as an amp simulator, maybe line 6 is the best or maybe there are others I should check out. I know there are guitar "apps" for Ipads etc but this is a Mac. BTW I did not like the guitar sounds produced by Garageband. Thanks
I'm using GJABB with Logic Express 7.2.3 and have no problems.
However, I haven't started messing around with the modulation wheel yet which is pretty important in this libary since it controls volume. The sounds are great, though. I've just raised the mod wheel on each track to get the basic arrangement done, then I'll try the mod wheel for expression.
One thing about this library is that it pretty much forces you to do single horn lines since each patch is monophonic (like the real instrument). It does produce pretty nice results that way. I haven't tried upping the polyphony as I like the results this way. -
Adobe Photoshop CC lags on Macbook Pro when moving layer content around
Hi,
We just bought new Macbook Pro laptops last Friday and also got Adobe Photoshop CC and Adobe Illustrator CC. Everything works pretty fine, except moving layer content eg. images or fonts around is a bit behind, slow/laggy, without any apparent reason.
This happens despite external screen connected or not. It also happens with or without power adapter connected. We have brand new Mac OS Mavericks and 16GB RAM so performance should not be a problem.
I hope you can help out, we are a digital agency and do a lot of graphical work. Thanks in advance.

DisplayPorti cant believe this problem is still happening. same exact issue here. photoshop cs6 and CC run like **** on my macbook but run smooth on windows 7 on the same exact hardware, macbook pro 2.5ghz core i5, 16gb ram and intel hd 4000. ive talked with applecare about this, adobe support (who hasn't called me back twice now) and no response on how to fix this. its absolutely ridiculous that we are having to go through this much trouble to get this problem fixed. ive brought it up over 5 times now and no solution except for the usual suggestions (turn off hardware acceleration, delete your preferences, yada yada). same hardware, mac osx photoshop cc lags, windows photoshop runs fine.. something is wrong with the mac version of photoshop cs6 and CC adobe please fix this as soon as possible.

Help. Garageband guitar distortion
I've recently upgraded to Snow Leopard and now, when I create a real instrument track in Garageband for my guitar, the output sound is badly distorted like a broken speaker. The bad sound occurs when I am plugged in with my m-audio usb recording interface, or my Lightsnake guitar chord which is a direct usb chord. So the cause is neither the m-box or the lightsnake (I've tried both in every usb port). I've tried it with all other usb ports unplugged, different chords, same result. I've got everything selected correctly in main sound preferences and an garageband prefs. The crackling sound occurs with two different guitars with two different cords.
My M-audio Keystation 49e usb keyboard works fine. However, if I create a real instrument guitar track, the keyboard starts making the same terrible output noise, even though it's a different track. Delete the guitar track and the keyboard track returns to normal.
I've used Garageband for four years without a problem.
I've posted about this maddening dilemma before but haven't received any suggestions as of yet.Is the level of your guitar track clipping?

GarageBand - guitar lesson 1 is no longer in the lesson store. Why?
Am I the only one that sees this anomaly?
Lesson 1, for guitar (Intro to Guitar), is missing from the lesson store! I am unable to download it on ANY of the 5 macs at my house. What happened? The only lessons available are 2 thru 9 (8 total). There used to be 9 lessons in GarageBand '09. That intro video was perfect for beginners.I am seeing the same. Only lesson 2 to 9 are showing.
Perhaps they removed it, because it comes automatically with any new GarageBand installation and it should not be necessary to download it again.
If you still have lesson 1 on one of your macs or in an older backup, restore it to your System Library. The lessons are installed in
/Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Learn to Play/Basic Lessons

Can_I_install_GarageBand_6_ on_a_MacBook_G4_1.67Ghz_2GB_Ram_with_iLife_6_already_installed?
GarageBand 6 requires an Intel Mac and Mac OS X 10.6.3 or newer. Since there were no 1.67GHz or G4 MacBooks, I'm assuming you have a PowerBook G4, which can't run it.
