Garageband music into FCP?

Can someone tell me if it's possible to use/import the garageband music loops and audio FX into FCP? If not, what are inexpensive alternatives to get non-royalty music and audio FX for future FCP projects.
Thanks

You can surfing (web, not board, the latter method basically just gets you shark sounds) for SFX on the web. Lots of free stuff. Lots of crap, but I've found some good FX of decent quality, too

  • Using GarageBand music in FCP

I recently edited a short promo video and I wanted to add some music that I created in GB for the soundtrack. I exported the song from GB and sent it to iTunes. For some reason, iTunes made it a .m4a (protected file) the same kind of file you get when you buy a song from the iTunes store. When I tried to import that song into FCP it would not allow me to do so. So I had to go back in iTunes and convert that song to a MP3 format and then I was able to import it into FCP.
Just wondering why GB can't export to a FCP friendly file format like Soundtrack Pro does.

    It can.
But this is a GB question, not a FCP question.
In any case, in Garageband. Share > Export Song to Disk > hit the Export button.
Do not check the compress checkbox. This will give you an AIFF.

    Rants? No
    Facts? Yes
Unlike others that give short or incomplete answers... I like to give answers with reasons &/or options. I feel this is more educational and helps those with less experience not only with FCP, but also the different types of edits, other NLE's, & Software that compliments the Suite.
I think my response is perfect as I tend to get DVD's, CD's, MP3's, QT's, AVI's, VHS's, DVcam, BetaSP, Hi8, Umatic, JPEG's, GIF's, and every other format imaginable. I can't decline to do a project because a client does not have the ideal format. If it is usable, I simply take it and remove the headache from the client.
My response was simply sharing a bit of that experience to shed some light on the fact that... we don't always have the ideal situation. It's up to us as 'Creatives' to Create a Flow that works best for our situation/environment. My situation has led me to create an environment that is friendly to more than just 1 NLE. Others may not.
Please don't read more into my words than what is said, or read my words with an aggressive tone as this is not how they are written or meant. I'm sure there are lots of people that will read my response(s) and take some good info from it. The difference is... these people do not take the time to write a response or RANT. They take the info and run with it.

  • Best way to move a Garageband Track into FCP 5?

I had a sound effect clip that I had done in Garageband, and needed to import into Final Cut, but there wasn't an easy way to do it.. I had to export to iTunes and then open FCP and open the iTunes folder and get it from there..
Based on the way Apple products integrate, it "seems" there would be a better more direct way of doing it without exporting to iTunes... Is there?

  • Import IOS GarageBand music into IOS iMovie

I have created a song in iOS GarageBand on my iPad and want to use it in iMovie on my iPad.
How do I go about doing that?  I can't find it anywhere on the list of "Audio" in iMovie.

I found the answer to my problem.
In my case both iMovie and GarageBand were open at the same time and iCloud was available on my iPad.
    1.  In GarageBand  in the upper Right corner of the compositions screen  press "Select"
    2.  Select the song you want to send to iMovie. (It should be Wiggling).
    3.  In the upper left corner of the screen, select the box with the arrow coming out of it.
    4.  A drop-down box will come down containing Mail, Facebook, SoundCloud, and YouTube. Below that there will be a selection for "Open in…". Press that.
    5.  Then the screen will pop up with "Authors Name", "Composers Name", "Album Name etc.  Fill those out accordingly then select the audio quality you want.
    6.  Click "share" in the upper right corner.  It will export the song and then a drop-down menu will pop up in the upper left corner with the iMovie app button in the box.
    7.  Select the iMovie app button and the audio file will drop down into the audio section of iMovie.
I tested this several times and it works every time.
Thank you for your quick response to my problem Especially on a holiday. :-)

It is songs purchased from iTunes that you cannot convert...and that we cannot explain how to convert. Even though YOU might use it for legal purposes, such as temp music or demo reels, we still cannot explain how to bypass DRM on Apple's own site. Doing so would violate their rules.
BUT...if you have a CD of the music, getting songs is much easier:
#5 Imported music from CD or iTunes
    Shane's Stock Answer #5:
To get music into FCP, it needs to be an AIFF file at 48khz, 16 bit stereo. So if you want a song from a CD, you go into the iTunes Preferences and set this up under the IMPORTING tab:
File > preferences > importing > import using - AIFF encoder > Setting - Custom
    Sample Rate - 48.000 kHz
    Sample size - 16 bit
    Channels - Stereo
If you have an mp3 that you want to use, then you can convert it thru iTunes as well.
If the piece of music you want to use is something you purchased thru iTunes, I'm afraid I can't help you there. There are copywrite issues that prevent files from being converted into the format that FCP can recognize.

  • Is there some sort of adapter that i can use to plug my electric guitar into, so that i can record music into garage band?

Is there some sort of adapter that i can use to plug my electric guitar into, so that i can record music into garage band?

Probably but for that kind of expertise I would ask the experts in the GarageBand forum.

  • Audio help wanted exporting to QT and back into FCP.

I have a sequence with live sound on A1 and A2, music on A3 and A4 and some extra voice on A5 and A6. I have gone into audio outputs and clicked "6 outputs" and "dual mono" for each and tried checking all the options for "Discrete channels" "Stereo down mix" etc. Whatever happens when I reimport the QT movie into a fcp sequence I get the 6 tracks but the whole mix always ends up of 1 and 2 with the other tracks blank. How can I get all the tracks to carry accross individually all the way?

I've sent a test to the broadcaster using this method. When I reimported the QT file back into FCP it was possible to separate the live sound from the music etc. I'll have to hope it's OK otherwise I'll have to do the odd suggestion of the editor of converting all the audio files to AIFF and re-laying them into the project and then exporting the whole lot as a QT file.

  • How do I import or export iLife music into Final Cut Pro 7. Thanks

How do I import or export iLife music into Final Cut Pro 7? Thanks.

Locate the .caf file you want to use in FCP in the Finder.  Normally, iLife sound files will be in Macintosh HD/Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/iLife Sound Effects/(subfolder).
Open the file on SoundTrack Pro, the go to File->Save a Copy As.  In the Save As window that will open, navigate to where you want to save the file, then near the bottom of that window, use the drop-down File Format menu to choose AIFF.  Set the bit depth to 16-Bit Integer and the Sampling Rate to 48000 hz.
Import the resulting AIFF file into your FCP project.

  • Downloading free music into iTunes

Can anyone tell me how to download music from say Mactube into iTunes so that I can import it into iMovie. There are many tutorials on YouTube but all are at least two years old and often require a downloaded application. If this is possible I should also like to know how to split the music clip to either reduce the length or delete say the vocal part before I import the music into iMovie without the whole lot and then trying to drag 4 minutes  back to around 15 seconds or so through many video clips. I understand copyright and only want the music for personal consumption as a background for some movie making.  Does this usually require MP3 conversion ?  Can the downloaded sound on a video be separated ? Any help would be appreciated.

This can be done using a free application "Audacity". It has a great range of tools, including Fade In and Fade Out. You could also use GarageBand.
Whilst Audacity is a free download, there is an option available to make a donation if you feel so inclined. It can be downloaded here: http://audacity.sourceforge.net
To delete a section of the audio, firstly click and drag across the unwanted part of the waveform, then in the Menu select Edit > Remove Audio or Labels ⇒ Cut. This will remove the highlighted section. You can also Split and Trim audio, plus lots more! There is also a wide range of Export options, including AIFF (Apple) and MP3. Help is available from the Menu.
These instructions apply to the latest version: Audacity 2.0.3 (the currently downloadable version for Mac).

  • Placing Garageband songs into iCloud from Macbook Pro???

Hi. Just trying to figure out how to place my garageband songs into iCloud from my macbook pro? It is possible, right? If so, how will i be able to listen to the songs on my iphone 5?

To load your music from your mac into iCloud you need iTunes Match. Have you subscribed to it?
Then share your GrageBand projects to iTunes, and iTunes will uhe GarageBand  songs to iCloud, together with all your other music.
In GarageBand: From the main menu bar:
Share > Send Song to iTunes
    Regards
    Léonie
P.S. If you have GarageBand on your iPhone, you can share directly from your iPhone to iCloud and download and edit those projects on your Mac. Projects initially created on your iPhone can be shared from iTunes to your iPhone even without iTunes Match, but you can only listen to them in GB on on your iPhone.

  • Getting music into usable form on Mac?

Ok, my apologies up front on this. I do not use GarageBand or any other music/audio software on the Mac or anywhere else. I am a high school football coach who does a highlight video at the end of each season. For the 2006 season, I would like to have the students at the high school do the audio for the video. I would expect that the band, drum/bugle corp, jazz group, student garage bands will be participating as the initial feedback seems positive.
My question is what do I tell the musicians when they ask me what to do with their music? How do they go about recording/mixing/whatever their music into a format that I can then use on a DVD produced on completely on the Mac?
Again, I'm sorry for the complete non-awareness of this side of the Mac applications. I'm not a musician, I don't play one on TV, and I have no idea how to proceed with this. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone could give you an AIFF, WAV, or MP3. I believe iDVD and iMovie support any of these formats. Otherwise, they can be converted in iTunes - this can be set in Preferences/Import.
Your students could give these to you on a disk, and you don't need GarageBand.
However, if you need to record any of them, it's actually fairly easy. I'll explain two ways - the first with one track, the second with multiple tracks:
    One Track:
The simplest way to get the band onto the Mac using Garageband would be to set up a microphone near them. Most microphones you'll find at the school will have a 1/4" jack (like the old headphones, or a guitar cable). Macs have an 1/8" input. You can get a 1/4" to 1/8" adapter at Radio Shack for about $4. You may even want to get an 1/8" splitter and use two microphones. Plug your microphone into the Line-In jack on the Mac.
Choose a new Real Instrument track in GarageBand (vocal would probably work best), and set it to mono on a single channel (microphones are mono) if you are using one microphone, optional stereo if you're using two. In the System Preferences (Apple Menu), choose Line-In in the Sound preferences panel. This gives you the input volume, which you can test by trial and error - depending on how far the microphone is from the band, you probably want it pretty loud, if not all the way up. Use headphones to test the level, or you may get feedback.
Now that you have everything set up, you should hear sound in the headphones. Press Record when you're ready.
You can cut, edit effects, increase/decrease volume or panning after the fact. The most important thing is to get it loud enough without clipping. I would suggest minimal reverb and increasing the midrange using the equalizer. All of this is in the Details tab.
    Multiple Tracks:
You can record each instrument separately. If you have a guitarist that wants to record, they can plug in directly like the microphone above - just use Real Instrument/Guitar in the New Track. They can even choose their effects, or play through a vintage sounding amplifier. After they record one part on a track, you can choose another New Track, and they, or anyone else, can record along with the previous track. This way, you can record each instrument separately - the player could play along with headphones while recording.
So this way a trumpet, drummer, bassist, etc. could play the main track, and everyone else could play on separate tracks. When you play it back, it sounds like they are all playing together. And you can edit each track after its recorded. If the guitarist used too much reverb while recording, they can change it in the details tab.
When you're finished, export to iTunes. It will come out as an AIFF, which you could use, or you could convert to an MP3 in iTunes. I would use the higher quality AIFF in iMovie/iDVD.
If you're really adventurous, you can use several microphones or instruments at once, but this would require a pre-amp of some kind with enough inputs for all the microphones/instruments. The requirements above are basically the same.
    Hope this helps.

  • Trouble importing HDV mini DV footage from my Sony HVR Z7U into FCP 6.0.6

Cannot import HDV mini DV footage from my HVR Z7U camcorder into Final Cut Pro
I can Import the footage as an NTSC 720x480 signal.
One consistent answer is to make sure that in camcorders menu settings that the IN/OUT REC - iLINK SET is set to off.
No Luck, no communication with FCP in that mode.
That being said when cameras ilink is on I can import 740/480 NTSC video, not HDV.
    Here’s where I’m at now
The video was shot in 1080i 30p onmini DV.  With my Sony HVR Z7U Ican only import the video into FCP as a NTSC 720x480 signal. It looks great butnot in HDV?
I believe I have tried most every setting in my FCP audio video settings to import the HD footage into FCP. FCPseems to only recognize the camcorder in the NTSC mode.
Example - In  FCP  Audio /Video Settings
    Sequence Preset - HDV 108030p
    Capture Preset    - HDV
Device Control     - HDV FireWire Basic
Video Playback   - Only gives none or NTSC choices(I chose Apple FireWire)
With the setting above and Sony’s  ilink off- window alert reads…
“Device is not connected or the capture preset is not set up correctly. You may still log offline clips. This might also happen if you play DV footage in an HDV device.” The camcorder viewer reads the digital footage as 1080i 30p. So it’s not shot in DV footage.
With the iLink on - I get the same window alert.  Unless I capture in NTSC
For me FCP will only log and capture the footage when the Capture and Device Control Presets are set to a NTSC format and the camcorder ilink is on. Hence an NTSC 720x480 signal is imported. Not HDV?
Come on, I know this a common problem and I must be missing something very simple. Please Help! Many thanks.

Someone mentioned using log and transfer. I use this with all my Compact Flash HD videos. I have found no info for importing HDV from mini DV in log and transfer with a (my) camcorder.

Gary, this is the Final Cut Pro X forum.  You might try the other forum for FCP. Still, I have the Z5U Sony which is nearly identical to your camera except for the zoom as I recall.  I think we have the same menu system.  I see to recall there is a menu option that sets the output file format.  Also you can set it to record in SD as well as I recall.  I read my files in from tape to FCP X easily ... in high def.  Best wishes.
