Garageband Not Recognizing Tascam US-122

I am trying to use my Tascam US-122 in Garageband. My computer is recognizing the interface and I have the input and output set as Tascam in Garageband and in system preferences. The interface is reading a signal from the microphone but there is no signal being detected in the Garageband track. Is there something that I am missing?
I am running Lion OSX

  • Garageband not recognizing external inputs from minijack entrance

    Hello
I need to connect a sound mixer to the Macbook via minijack audio entrance. Even I have changed the settings for audio input in System Preferences (from internal mic to external line) garageband is not recognizing any external input and internal microphoen is always active.
    Someone had the same problem?
    Thankx

  • Garageband on Macbook not recognising Tascam US 122

I've downloaded the latest drivers from Tascam and connected the US122 to my intel macbook. The US122 is recognised as a USB device as all the lights are showing and phantom power ia available. In Garageband preferences however it doesn't show in the list of input devices.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers
    Dick

I had a similiar issue and I don't totally remember how I solved it. I hate to say it (bc it's probably been done and they always start out this way on the phone), but:
    make sure to restart
    try another usb cable
if you are plugged into a hub, try a direct connection to the mac
there was also a note in the install to disconnect the US122 before you go through the install process. I didn't see that the first time through. I don't recall if that was the piece that fixed it. There seem to be a lot of people in forums all over the place that are having diff problems with this interface.
    best of luck.
    cheers

  • Tascam US-122 not recognized after Leopard installation

Nothing is recognizing my Tascam US-122 since I upgraded to Leopard. I've looked for updated drivers at the Tascam site and I couldn't find anything referring to the US-122. I found drivers for the US-122L, but not the one I've got.
Any ideas. It's a drag not being able to use Garageband.

I believe I've solved my own problem finally, although I can't tell for sure without waking my wife.
I kept nosing around the TASCAM site and I finally figured out how to find more recent drivers. They have an option for "Resources" which I take to mean drivers, documentation and such, but whenever I tried to enter a choice in their pop-up, I was taken to a dead page.
    But.
On the lower right margin of that page was an option to go to "Legacy". This lead my to a US-122 page and I found more recent drivers and installed them. Now I can see my US-122 in Preferences->Sound.
I'll try launching Garageband in the morning when I can make more sound to be sure.
You can go directly to the correct page here:

  • Garageband not working with tascam us-122

    hi,
i try to use my tascam us-122 on my macbook pro (intel) with the latest tascam driver 3.4.0 (universal binary released in april 2006) with garageband
but even a simple playback of a simple song only works for lets say five seconds, than its game over
neither apple or tascam responds to my e-mails en the support desk of apple in holland has not got a clue
anyone who can help me, what should i do next?

    Hi Perry Winkel,
I just got the US-122L today and my imac a couple of weeks ago. Im trying to record my keyboard (Korg TR) into garageband. Im am extremely new to this but I have tried everything that the manuals are telling me but when I try to record a 'real instrument' and turn my moniter to 'on' - all I hear is this weird sound, similar to the screaching of a microphone.
    1) I installed all the software from my keyboard and from the US-122L
    2) I have a MIDI chord going from the 'out' on my keyboard to the 'in' on my US-122L.
    3) My USB cable is connected to the back of my IMAC - not on the keyboard.
    4) I went into applications/utilities/audio midi setup and I switched my 'default input' and my 'properties' to the US-122L. Im not sure if I was supposed to do that but I have been on this for over 5 hours now and I am trying anything.
    Can you help me?!
    Can ANYONE help me?!?!

  • Tascam US-122 MK II not working with Mac Mini

This seems to be a common issue for many people for many years, but I have not found anyone with this exact problem...:
I am using the Tascam US-122 MK II audio interface with my Mac Mini (latest model). I have connected everything correctly, have installed the correct drive (first from the provided disk, then when that didnt work, from the web).
The device is powered and seems to be working. I can see in System Preferences that the mini picks up the signal coming from the US-122 ( a guitar ).
I have then attempted to use it with GarageBand. I have set the input to pick up the US-122. But there is no sound. Garageband registers no input at all, there is no sound at all, and there is also no out sound from the phones on the device. Having checked with Tascam, the problem doesnt seem to lie with the device.
Has anyone had a similar problem? Could it be that I have to reboot in 32 bit? I don't see why this should be the case.... Thanks!

Thanks. This doesnt seem to have helped, but has made me notice something.
In Audio MIDI Set Up under Audio Devices, I am not able to select the US-122 MKII for sound input: that field is not highlighted. I can only select for sound output, which is of no use...! I have absolutely no idea why, even though it recognises the device, it will not allow me to select it for sound input. Any ideas? Thanks again.

  • US-122 not recognized with 10.4.4

    Hey there,
I'm the proud new owner of a new Intel iMac 2Ghz. With 10.4.4, I can't seem to get the machine to recognize my Tascam US-122 device (USB recording). I read someone's post about downloading the latest driver for Tiger 10.4, but that driver doesn't seem to do anything in 10.4.4.
    Help!

I use a US-122, with a 10.4.4 system, in a mini mac, and my computer recognizes the Tascam. I can' remember if I downloaded a driver from Tascam or not. Tascam shows up in my Sound preferences and also in the Audi Midi setup.

  • Logic Express 9 running with Tascam US-122 - possible?

    Hello,
I've been scouring support forums and the Logic user manual all day and unfortunately cannot seem to find an answer to this:
Is it at all possible to run Logic Express 9 with the Tascam US-122?
I've just converted from PC to Mac in the last couple of weeks: all of my software and drivers are all up-to-date so that should not be an issue. Obviously that means that I've previously been using my Tascam with Cubase on the PC, and I was really hoping it would cope with Logic too. The problem is that Logic does recognize the Tascam but when it comes to recording, I can't get it to work. Apparently it's something to do with the sample rate?
Please help - if it can be avoided, I don't want to have to buy another device. Any advice or answers would be very much appreciated!
    Thank you.

It sounds like you have the same setup as us.
I (oops, wife) has a brand new iMac, a Tascam US-122L and a Yamaha KX8 controller. She started with GarageBand, then bought Logic Express 9 and just yesterday we ordered the upgrade to Logic Studio.
Like any new computer setup of course nothing worked right away.
She plugs her guitar into the Tascam but it didn't work until we changed to Input 2 in Logic (or was it GarageBand, sorry I am getting them confused).
Anyway, my point is that you should not need any more hardware to make it work. We have yet to plug a mike into the Tascam...that will be the fun for the weekend....lol
    Good luck,
    Paul

  • Frozen Clock, loss of sound with Tascam US-122

I have been using my Tascam US-122 soundcard with my 1.25 gHz 15' Aluminum PowerBook with no problems for about the past year. I have it hooked up to the USB port on the right side of my computer, and it derives its power via USB (it is a USB 1.1 device). Suddenly, starting about a month ago (or so), I have noticed that the clock on the toolbar has been freezing sporadically, at which time I lose sound through the sound card. The SPD also appears when I move the cursor over the clock. After some investigation, I found that the clock returns to normal when I unplug the US-122 and the SPD disappears. But when I plug the US-122 back in, I get nothing (no power even). At this time, if I plug the US-122 into the other USB port, it works fine. In addittion, even when the US-122 won't work on the right port after being unplugged, I can plug in another USB device that will work just fine in that port. If I restart the computer, the US-122 will work again, but eventually the problem reoccurs. The problem seems to happen more often when the computer has been in sleep mode, but it is not consistently so.
I don't know if this problem has something to do with updates to OSX or with the US-122 or with the right USB port, which is also the USB 2.0 port. Is anybody else having similar problems? Can anybody help?
    Thanks,
    Will.

It turns out that I was wrong about one thing, once the USB port on the right side of my computer stops working for the US-122, it seems to shut down until I restart the computer. I thought that it worked after the US-122 went down and was unplugged because another device will receive power from the port when plugged in. It turns out that although the new device will power up, it won't be recognized by the computer. I appreciate any help or ideas. Thanks.
    ---Will.

  • Only one channel from Tascam US-122

On my Mac OS X [10.4.2] I just connected the Tascam US-122 audio interface.
I did not upload any of the recording software like Cubase that came with it. The problem is that when I play back anything from ITunes or Garageband, I only get one channel of the stereo recording. This happens both trhough headphones or through line out connected to my stereo. MIDI works fine, but there seems to be only channel playing back at all times. Any help? The wait times for Tascam help are unbearable.

Check to see if your resolution and sample rate settings are set for 2 channel audio. Double click on your Macintosh HD and follow this string to where the settings are set:
Applications/Utilities/Audio MIDI Setup/Audio Devices/System Settings/Default Input: (your Tascam US-122)/Properties For: (your Tascam US-122)/Audio Input/Format/44100.0 Hz 2ch-16bit. Also check your Default Output/Audio Output settings for your Tascam US-122, they should also be set at 44.1 kHz and 2ch-16bit.
Also if you are going to install Cubase LE, especially if you have OS X Tiger (10.4.x), be sure that you have Cubase LE 1.08, because there is an installer incompatibility with Tiger and Cubase LE 1.07. There should be somethimg about this incompatibility at the Tascam website. Or better yet, I would recommend Logic Express 7. It interfaces seamlessly with GarageBand. Besides they have to give Cubase LE away free because being originally engineered for PC's, and then re-engineered for Mac as an afterthought, it is left-brain difficult to learn and work with. Apple Logic is much more right-brain user friendly.

I gathered this information from: http://developer.apple.com/documentation/HardwareDrivers/Conceptual/HWTechUSB/Articles/usb_implementation.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40003902-SW211200331179 and got the products usermanual from: http://www.tascam.com/products/us-122;9,15,68,19.html
Here is the likely cause of the issue:
"A single high-powered device can be attached directly to an external port, and software will enable one of its downstream ports to supply 500 mA of power. If a second high-powered device is attached, it will behave like a normal bus-powered hub and only provide 100 mA per downstream port."
The Tascam uses power supplied by USB connection @ 5 V, maximum current 500 mA. Having anything else plugged into the other port will cut the power supplied by the macbook.
Glad the powered USB hub solved it for you.

  • Tascam US-122 driver for Logic 8 In Leopard

Does any one out there have a tascam US-122. I downloaded what tascam said was the most recent driver for leopard. the devise has been recognized in the audio midi setup application & the green light is on and when I play notes on my keyboard the red midi in light flashes but the midi out light is not active. Only the internal speakers are producing sound even though I have chosen the tascam as my sound output.
    Greatfull for any help

The L2 Cache will not be as important as the RAm or HD speed. For Logic, I would recommend the 200GB 7200RPM drive for best performance. If I were to decide between 2.5Ghz with the 5400rpm drive or 2.5GHz with the 7200RPM, i would pick the 2.4GHz 7200RPM.. just my 2 cents.

  • Tascam US-122 problem

I am trying to use my Tascam US-122 as an input for Garageband '08. I downloaded the driver from the Tascam site and GB recognizes it as an input device. I set the preferences for a live instrument, the input as the 122 but when I start to record, I get no signal in GB. The 122 shows a USB and a signal when I play an instrument or speak into the mic. I have tried using a microphone and a guitar in either side of the 122(not together). Nothing seems to work. Can anyone offer some guidance? I am using a new MacBook.

Probably done this but make sure track is enabled.
Also make sure the output is set correctly and turn monitor on just to see if you can hear any signal.

  • Camera not recognized unless daisy-chained with external HD

I just bought a LaCie 250GB external FW drive to use as a scatch disk for FCE. Now my camera (Sony DCR-HC30) is not recognized unless I plug it into the LaCie. I borrowed a second camera (Panasonic), swapped the FW cable while the camera and HD were plugged into separate FW ports, and the Panasonic was immediately connected in both iMovie (v4) and FCE. I've tried the suggested fixes (unplug, Garageband, swap ports, new cable...) and the problem remains. I upgraded memory, QT and applied several patches prior to attaching the HD. Any suggestions? Can I live with the daisy chain arrangement or will that cause problems importing to the external HD? (I've not tried to import any video yet). Thanks

Can I live with the daisy chain arrangement or will that cause problems importing to the external HD?
    Yes and No, respectively.
(That's what I always did before getting an internal 200GB hard drive in my iMac.)
