Garageband records Mooing thru built in mic

I guess the mooing is normal? But this kind of ruins the quality of my music. What's funny is i never heard the moo until i made a recording using the built in mic and garageband. Is there a solution to stop the moo when using built in mic?
Thanks

Well, that *****. My theory:
If the mooing is caused from the fans trying to cool the unit then try cooling the unit over an air vent while running the programs you need open and see if that takes the mooing away. If it does just let it cool the notebook for a few moments then take it away from the vent to do the recording.
Option #2: External mic.
Hope this helps

  • From what I've read the new Macbook Pros do not recognize a line-in through the headphone jack. I want to record my guitar on GarageBand without using the built in mic. Any advice?

I have all the adapters and stuff like that, I have recorded a lot of things on audacity on my p.c. For $2500 you would think they would have at least kept the input through the headphone jack feature in this mac. I am using an acoustic and an eletric guitar and I don't want to spend more than about $20 to resolve this.

I had a fast tracks usb and it worked great and at $99 it is well worth it. But if you plan on recording vocal and guitar you will need a XLR plug on your mic because it only has two inputs 1/4 and XLR.
Also you don't need a multichannel interface to record multiple tracks, only multiple tracks at the same time.
If your doing all the instruments yourself the fast track or fast track pro may be a good idea for now and then when you need it upgrade to a more expensive firewire interface.
And make sure whatever you get will work with your intel mac.
I just read some of the negative comments about the fast track usb. I don't think some of these people know what there doing. Comments like it only records on the left channel shows user error.

  • No Sound from built-in mic recording to a basic track

I am not a garageband user in the past so please bear with me.
I want to record from the built-in mic and I did and there was a obvious record patten on the basic track.
BUT No Sound, I thought maybe the file was wrong I then recorded an itunes and the record patten was visible and I even tried raising the record level and the patten got higher. The recording level bars in the basic track were green and when I raised the volume there were occasions that they went red.
However both times No Sound when trying to playback.
I checked the speaker levels and raised them to maximum in both the GB and my computer.
The track volume constantly shows 0.00 dB-
Any thoughts as to why I cannot get the sound to playback.
    Greg

I got it to work in Guitar track Midi.
    I was in real Instrument.
Any reason why there would be a difference that sound plays in Guitar Track and not in Real Instruments ?

  • Garageband: disable built-in mic in

    Hi,
I have bought the GuitarConnect Cable (http://store.griffintechnology.com/guitar-connect) in an Apple Store, being assured that it works fine with iPhone and Garageband. Unfortunately, the built-in microphone of my iPhone 4 is still active even when the cable is plugged in. That makes it practically useless, since:
    1) it records also sounds and noises around
    2) it's impossible to use external speakers, 'cos it makes Larsen effect.
I cannot find any option on garageband to turn the built-in mic off, does anybody know how to solve the issue?
    Thanks in advance!

Sorted, apparently it was just a matter of low battery on the guitar + the contact not working so well...

  • HELP! Input source not registering built-in mic?

    Hi all -
I'm trying to record with the mac's built-in mic, but the only input sources I'm offered are (built-in input)!
How do I get Garageband to recognize my built-in mic? I went to System Preferences and then to Sound and clicked on Internal Mic for the input source.
    HELP!
    M.

it depends on the CPU in your computer. assuming intel:

  • Can't switch Input Source to built-in Mic

A few days ago I switched my Input source for a real track to "Stereo 1/2 Built-in Input" by going to System Preferences > Sound > Input and selecting Line-In because I wanted to record guitar. Now when I go back to System Preferences and select Internal Microphone, it picks up a signal in the System Prefs window, but when I open Garageband there are no options to switch the input source to the Built-In Mic again. It only lists options for Mono Built-In Input and Stereo Built-In Input. What do I do to enable recording with the built-in mic again?

  • Built-in mic not recognized by system

When I try to record with the built in mic on my macbook on Windows Vista, I go to the sound settings and under the recording tab the computer will have a microphone icon but it will say "currently available" and won't let me make it a default recording device. I'm currently on the Boot Camp 2.0 drivers. Anybody know how to fix this?

  • Garageband is recording from built in mic (i think) even though interface is plugged in and selected. Only after updating app.

I am trying to record guitar through a LambdA interface and have never had problems before. Now after the most recent update, I have the interface selected but it seems like my computer's built in mic is picking up the sound. So when i have the monitor on, it is picking it up and feeding back. Even if the volume is all the way off on the interface, I can snap my fingers and it picks it up. It's probably something stupid but trying to figure this out for an hour... Please help.

I'd seen this posted to a similar question, but either I'm blind or doing something completely wrong. In my midi/audio screen (from GB> Preferences > Audio/Midi) I see no such option. Searched the '08 help for anything remotely close to "aggregate device" provides no topics.
Am I looking in the wrong place? Has this feature been renamed in GB '08?

  • Newbie asks: "How do I record my voice using my built-in mic?"

I will admit it - I am the newbie. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to record my voice, using my built-in mic on my laptop (G4). The manual for GarageBand doesn't have a step by step.
My Track Info does not list "Vocal", as I have seen it listed on Apple tutorials and pdf manuals. Also, I have set my Preferences to "built-in audio" for input and output. I am using version 2.0.2 (50) of Garage Band.
I am probably just being mentally deficient, but can anyone help me with a step-by-step explanation of how to record my voice?

  • After using apogee duet, mac's built in mic & logic's track headers for recording are not working properly.  How do I fix it?

    I use logic 9
After using apogee duet for mac, I was away from my home studio without the duet and wanted to record vocals via the internal microphone on my mac book pro.  (Obviously, I know it wouldn’t be the same quality.  I wanted to do it as a draft, because I had a melody in my head and wanted to record it so I could remember it later.)
After opening up a project I was unable to record audio.  I noticed the track headers had changed.  Sometimes the “record ready” button was missing.  But whether it was there or wasn’t, the same thing kept happening… After pressing the “record button” or the “record ready” button a window would pop up that said, “No input source selected!”  I tried to trouble shoot by configuring track header and by going to prefereces>audio>devices>core audio, and switched the “input device” to “built in microphone,” and things like that, but I still would get the same pop up window indicating “no input source selected.”   To be thorough, in preferences under “core audio,” I have selected universal track mode, 24 bit recording, and software monitoring.
Do I need to reset something?
If your recommendations help fix the immediate issue temporarily, how do I keep it from reverting back to the same problem if I feel like switching between the duet interface and the built in mic in the future?  How do I keep it permanently from this malfunction?  It seems like this is something simple that would be addressed.
Also, as I was trying to think of anything it could possibly be.  I wonder if it could be the driver I installed for an old m-box2 possibly causing an issue.  After getting my new mac book pro, I downloaded a driver for m-box2 (the second generation that came out in 2005 and used pro tools LE.)  I used the m-box on my previous computer and it worked well.  Since I purchased a new macbook, I tried to use it on my new computer, but since the m-box2 is a 32 bit system, it didn’t work very well, which is why I got the duet.  I don’t know if that could possibly be messing anything up.  If so, should I uninstall it somehow?
    Thanks

Ok, think this through... you've changed from a stereo source to a mono source.
The message reads: “No input source selected!”
On the track you're trying to record there is an Input section directly underneath the  I/O label. Click and hold to select the correct Input for that track.
Also, the project you opened was saved with the Duet's driver/interface parameters.. if you open the same project without the audio interface Logic will do it's best to pick I/O that's compatible but I've never seen any DAW do this perfectly.. it always takes a small amount of user input. Especially since you've changed from the Apogee to the internal mic.

  • Recording with an external computer mic in Garageband?

    Hi,
I am trying to record an interview for a podcast on location and was trying to use an external computer mic. This isn't a professional mic or anything, just one that goes into your phone jack or line-in. cheap little thing many computers come with. the problem is i can't seem to get the recording to go through the mic. when i use Built-In Line-In nothing records. If i switch to Built-In Microphone, obviously then it works, but is using the internal mic.
Can anyone help me in the appropriate setting to use with an external microphone NOT coming in through an Audiophile or similar set-up (i have used a professional mic as well with an Audiophile, but needed something more portable)
    thank you in advance!

thanks - i tried bulletsandbones and have to admit i'm not sure it helped me. But maybe i'm missing something. I changed the recording options to Built-In Line-In but still nothing was recorded. the second link just says "depends on your processor" so it's not too much help. Basically is there a way for me to record using a line-in Mic WITHOUT it being a Firewall or USB device?
