Folks, I have had some success in fixing this problem.
I followed the following instructions that I found in an old post on another forum, dated in 2007 but gave it a try. Since doing it, Garageband is loading in the usual 20-30 secs again.
1. Create a folder on your desktop called "OLD FONTS"
2. go to the /Users/*/Library/Fonts folder, where "*" is the user that is having the problem loading GB.
3. Move all of the fonts from this folder to the new folder you created in the first step. These are not system fonts, so it is okay to do this.
4. Try to load GB. Thank God and do a happy dance!
5. Put back fonts one letter of the alphabet at a time to find the offending font.
I haven't found the offending Font yet, but wanted to share this info as soon as possible.

This has suddenly become a huge problem for me. Interestingly, I'm still on Tiger 10.4.11, but ever since my last two updates (iLife Support 8.2 and Security Update 2008-001 1.0) it is taking forever to open anything in Logic 8.0.1, including the simplest of templates.

Loss of Network after iLife Support 9.0.4 Sofware Update

I just updated my System Software with the 9.0.4 iLife Support and 3.0 Digital Camera Raw Compatability Update. Now I have lost access to my wireless network as it will not recognize my password (returning invalid password). I ran disk repair for permissions but to no success. In addition I have found the following other issues:
1. My Keychain is saying that access to any of my saved passwords is restricted.
2. I have two Firewall requests coming from cups-lpd and krb5kdc every time I log in.
3. Date has been reset to 1 January 2001.

I just dragged all of the 1 January 2001 Prefs out of my folder and restarted and it looks like its working, including the keychain. I'll keep monitoring this...

Facetime and iMessage on Macbook Pro Retina display slow after Yosemite 10.10.3 Update

Hi
I recently updated my Macbook Pro Retina display to Yosemite 10.10.3 update. I see that the Facetime and iMessage has become relatively very slow. Like for example when someone calls on my phone it takes like more than 15 seconds + to show up on my macbook. Earlier it used to be like instant!
I started seeing this problem on Yosemite 10.10.3 update only. Also the same is the story with iMessage. When I get an SMS or an iMessage from my friends it takes like a good 30 seconds + to show up on my macbook pro.
Just for your information, this is the version of macbook i am using
MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013)
2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
251GB Flash storage
As Suggested by someone I also tried RESETTING my computer's PRAM. That didn't seem to help either. Can anyone help. If it is a genuine bug in Apple Yosemite, I'd like to file a bug in the community.

Safari slow after applying 2006-001 Sec update

After applying 2006-001 my Safari is slow to the point of useless. Same goes for Firefox. In Firefox I can see that name resolution is the killer - takes from 3 to 5 secs even using my own inhouse DNS server. Changing to public DNS server maskes no difference. I have tested ADSL bandwith and name resolution from Windows PC - everything is working perfect.
Tried to test if name resolution has generic problem, but DIG is fast as always.
Tried to reapply 2006-001 manually - made no difference. Has repaired permissions and cleaned caches using Onyx - still no difference.
Anybody got an idea what to do next ?

DivX Doctor is a freeware I had downloaded a few days before applying Security Update 2006-01 (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/4683). It certainly was responsible for my problems with Office X apps because, as I said, they completely disappeared as soon as I got rid of it.
I hadn't the memory problems you mentioned (I've applied also Security update 2006-02 without problems).

iBook G4

IMac EXTREMELY slow after 10.4.10 software update

Hi All,
I'm having major performance issues with my iMac G5. I ran the 10.4.10 updater via Software Update but after installing, my computer got "stuck" shutting down. After about 25 minutes I had to shut it down via the power button in the back.
Since then it's been running EXTREMELY slow. We're talking about 5 minutes for it to open Safari. I read previous discussion threads and tried downloading the 10.4.10 combo updater, but I receive an error trying to open it after download saying there are "no mountable files."
Can anyone help?

I tried downloading the combo updater for both 10.4.10 and 10.4.9 again but when it tries to mount the drive it gives me the same error message for both that says "No mountable file systems."
It looks like the archive and install option may be my next step then yes?
A few questions about this.
- I read the article included in the link. Just to confirm, I purchased a copy of Tiger - I can use that to do this yes? My computer originally came with original OS X.
- Also, will it archive all of my documents and files (i.e. iTunes music and videos, iPhoto pictures, personal docs, etc?) Or will I need to back them all up to an external drive and then import them after the Archive and Install?
- After I complete the Archive and Install and get everything up and running, do I delete the /Previous Systems/Previous System 1 folder? Or do I need to keep that on there?

Safari Slow After Yosemite 10.10.3 Update

Hi,
I just updated the software in my iMac to 10.10.3 and suddenly Safari is very slow. I downloaded Google Chrome and it downloads web pages as normal (quickly). Can I know whether there is a fix to this problem.

There are many possible causes for problems with web browsing. Below are some simple steps that may help either to solve the problem or isolate the cause.
Back up all data before making any changes.
1. Restart your router and also your broadband device, if they're separate.
2. If you connect to the the router with Wi-Fi, turn off Wi-Fi and then back on.
3. If you connect with Wi-Fi and you can also connect with Ethernet, do that and turn off Wi-Fi.
4. If your browser is Safari, then from the Safari menu bar, select
          Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. If the Downloads button (with the icon of a downward-pointing arrow) is showing in the toolbar, click it and then click Clear in the box that appears. The download history will be removed.
5. Select the Extensions tab in the Preferences window. Turn all extensions OFF and test. If there's an improvement, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
6. If you're running OS X 10.10 or later, select the Search tab. Uncheck the box marked
          Enable Quick Website Search
if it's checked.
7. If you're running OS X 10.9 or later, select the Advanced tab and uncheck the box marked
          Stop plug-ins to save power
Quit and relaunch the browser.
8. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest.
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
9. Are any other web browsers installed, and are they the same? What about other Internet applications, such as iTunes and the App Store?
10. If other browsers and Internet applications are also affected, follow these instructions and test.
11. If Parental Controls is active for any user, please turn it off and test.
12. Open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the boxes marked Safari and Photos, if they're checked.
13. Are there any other devices on the same network that can browse the Web, and if so, are they affected?
14. If you can, test Safari on another network.
15. Start up in Recovery mode. In the OS X Utilities screen, select Get Help Online. A clean copy of Safari will launch. No plugins, such as Flash, will be available. While in Recovery, you'll have no access to your saved bookmarks or passwords, so make a note of those before you begin, if they're needed for the test.

Logic Pro slow after SSD and mountain lion update.

1 week ago i was mixing a project of 90 tracks, and every run really well, no "system overloads" at all.
Sometimes the 320gb 5400rpm HDD give away a message that it was running a little slow and had a hard time dealing with all the 90 tracks, but it still work'd well.
3 days ago i installed a new samsung 830 256GB SSD and updated from lion to mountain lion and wow!
Everything is really fast, except logic pro.
Im now running a project with only 35 audio tracks with EQ,compressor and 2 busses with reverb.
It should work fine, SSD with 2,3 dualcore i5 cpu and 8gb ram but no, i am only able to play a quarter of a secound before i get the anoying "system overload" message....
Does somebody know what could be wrong? Mixing is my job soo this is a real problem for me.

Are you getting sudden motion sensor related stops? It may be best to tern your SMS off, as there is no need for SMS in a drive with no moving parts.

if there is no mention of the SMS I wouldn't bother although, no harm would be done if you did anyway.
You disable SMS by doing the following:
Launch Terminal
Type the following at the command line: sudo pmset -a sms 0
Hit return and enter your password

Is any one having problems with Iphone 4 s being slow after ios 7.0.3 update?

Any one having issues with this update. Phone was working fine untill this update. I am having low signal, goes inbetween 1x and 3g, apps slow to load if at all, apps crash and to top it off, heavy battery drain. I did not have any of this problem before 7.0.3 update.

Mac mini 2010 very slow after update to Mavericks

My mac mini 2010 (2.4 Ghz, 8GB ram) is running really very slow after updating to Mavericks.
Clearly OneDrive is a pain... but had it running on ML as well, and though it is a memory and CPU hog, it never really slowed down the system.

Hi! My Mac is so much slower after updating it to 9.2., I installed Java but I read at some forums I should delete it, but I dont know how. Can somebody help me?

When you run out of real RAM you start writing to free hard disk space. This is paging in/out. This is much slower than using real RAM
Add more RAM Basics
Open System Profiler > Hardware
Copy the Serial number and model identifier
Under Memory in System Profiler, you'll see how many slots and what is installed. You need matching pairs. Most likely you will have to replace RAM you have installed unless you have 4 slots and are only using 2 slots.
Go to this page:   http://support.apple.com/specs/
Copy the Serial number in the "Search Tech Specs" search box. This will take you to the info on your computer.
Next using the Identifier and with the knowledge of your exact model and how much RAM you can install, go to this site: (There are several sources for memory. This one has good prices and has the video showing how to install)

running slow after downloading an update!
I had zero complaints until today when I downloaded an update and restarted my machine.
Now It feels like I'm back in the PC world.
Any suggestions?

If it is Safari loading web pages slowly, I would suggest http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3230 or http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1594, one of these will surely help. If not, as previously suggested, more detail will greatly help.

What is your Mac?
What did you update from? 10.6 or 10.7?
If from 10.6 or your machine was at 10.5 at one time, it might be too old/slow for 10.8, you might want to revert to 10.6 again.

What do you notice is slower than before? Like Internet or booting or loading programs or UI feel or what exactly?

Now a fresh install of OS X usually does wonders, this would mean you will need to take acurate account of your installed programs, passwords, export bookmarks and backup all your data to a external storage drive. Keep the boot drive data below 50% filled ideally, (not much for you apprantly, just reduce 50GB of data)
Most commonly used backup methods
Write down your AppleID and password to reinstall 10.8
When your sure, then hold command r boot into Recovery, use Disk Utility to Erase (middle selection) the Macintosh HD partition and wait, it's going to map off fialing sectors. When done quit and reinstall 10.8 fresh and install programs and files from backup into the same named accounts.
