GarageBand substituting earlier versions of clips as I add them

I haven't used GarageBand 3.0.5 (104.10) to record real instruments yet.
What I've been doing is building up Mash-Ups, or sample-pieces.
One or 2 tracks for the backing tracks, then individual tracks for each volume level and effects where I drop in the various short phrases and samples.
( an example ? . . sure: http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=1729053578652 )
What's suddenly happening for the 1st time w/ the current work is that I drop in a new version of a previously used item . . . taken from left-panned stereo to centered mono say . . or a newly edited partial of an earlier full phrase, yet once a new clip has imported, it's a replica of the earlier one !
It's half the length, back to left-panned, sporting an effect not on that track . . . whatever.
It's already weird that sometimes an .aiff comes out at a lower pitch and I'll have to convert it to an mp3 w/ iTunes to get to import right . . but this is more deeply odd.
I put both the com.apple.garageband.cs & com.apple.garageband.plist files on the desktop & re-opened G-Band . . . nuthin' !
What in tarnation's goin' on here ?

Well, I take it nobody's gone into similar areas, or encountered quite the same problem ?

  • FAQ: How do I migrate my saved presets from an earlier version of Photoshop or import/export them?

You now have the option to migrate presets from a previous version, export presets and to save to a directory as a zip file (great for instructors).
Preset Migration migrates your saved presets, not your preferences. The message says "Would you like to migrate presets from the following versions?"  It simply carries on the preset files you have already saved (things like Brush Tips, HDR Toning presets, Curve presets, Styles etc.)  to CS6.
HOW TO USE PHOTOSHOP CS6 AUTOMATED PRESET MIGRATION
Photoshop CS6 offers the great new functionality of automated preset migration for your custom presets from Photoshop versions as far back as CS3.
When Photoshop CS6 launches for the first time, it checks for previous installations of Photoshop on the computer to see if there are custom presets that need to be migrated. Photoshop looks in each of these presets folders for your saved custom preset files that it can migrate.
Preset migration script copies all the files in user preset folders of older versions. If there are more than one preset files with the same name, presets from the newer version will be given priority. These types of presets will be migrated by the script:
3DLUTs, Actions, Black and White, Brushes, Channel Mixer, Color Books, Color Swatches, Contours, Curves, Custom Shapes, Deco, Duotones, Exposure, Flash 3D, Gradients, HDR Toning, Hue and Saturation, Levels, Lighting Effects, Lights, Materials, Meshes, Optimized Colors, Optimized Output Settings, Optimized Settings, Patterns, Render Settings, Repousse, Scripts, Styles, Tools, Video, Volumes, Widgets, Zoomify, and Workspaces
If this is not your first launch and you would like Photoshop to look for presets,
Choose Edit > Presets > Migrate Presets
When Photoshop notices that you have custom presets saved in their appropriate folders it will give the message "Would you like to migrate presets from the following versions?"
Choose Yes. Photoshop will begin the preset migration script.
When the migration has completed Photoshop will pop up another message saying:
"Preset files from older versions successfully migrated"
In order to use your newly migrated presets, you must restart Photoshop.
If you had Photoshop CS6 beta installed and have saved custom presets, you will need to export those presets before uninstalling the previous version and installing the release version of Photoshop CS6.
    HOW TO SAVE PRESETS
For PS, check that you have saved all your presets using:
Edit>Preset Manager... (in previous versions) Edit>Presets>Preset Manager... (in CS6)
HOW TO IMPORT AND EXPORT PRESETS
    In the main PS menu,
    Choose Edit > Presets > Export/Import Presets
In this dialog you can export the presets and then import them when you load the new version using the same Export/Import dialog.
If you have gone through the automated preset migration and notice that some of your presets didn't get migrated with the rest, make sure you have exported your presets to their default folders.
    PRESET FILE LOCATIONS:
(Note that there are two different folder locations for presets, one for application provided default presets, and one for user created preset files)
These are the presets that are unique to each user on the computer. These can be migrated automatically: (this is the location that the user should save their personal presets in)
    Windows:  Users/[user name]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CS6/Presets
    Mac:  Users/[Username]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CS6/Presets
These are the default presets that ship with Photoshop.  These presets can be imported but will not copy over using the migrate feature because each version of Photoshop will install defaults for that version.

Do you have an  iPhoto Library from the old machine? If you have then simply open it - there's no importing involved.
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
If you don't have an actual library there is no way to do what you want.

  • How can I make a song work in an earlier version of GarageBand?

I am using Garage Band 11 and would like my song to open in version that comes with the 10.6 operating system.

Sorry, you cannot open the project in an earlier GarageBand version. Upgrading a project is a one-way route.
If you absolutely must work on the project in an earlier version, try to reconstruct the project in the 10.6 version on the machine where you want to use it. You would have to create a new project, export each track separately as an audio file from the GB'11 project, and then import each audio file as a separate track into the reconstructed project.
That would be a lot of work, and you would lose you software instrument tracks - they would turn into real instrument tracks.

  • Saving a project as a file for an earlier version of Garageband

Is it possible to save a garageband file as a file for an earlier version of garageband in garageband '06, and if so, how would i do this?

You're in the GB 08 forum, but anyway, it's the same answer. once you save a file in a newer version, you can no longer open it in an older version.

  • Is there anyway to down load an earlier version of the garageband app so that it is compatible with my ipad1

Is there anyway to download an earlier version of the "Garageband App" before it got updated to 2.0.1,so that it is compatible with my ipad1?

I don't have much hope for iOS 5, but check out this site:  GargeBand 1.0 is supposed to be working with all versions of the iPad, including iPad 1.

  • Where is the volume animator in GarageBand 10.0.2 like the earlier version?

Is there a volume control animator for fine volume control in individual tracks like there was in the earlier version of GB? I can't seem to find it.
    Thanks for any support!

    JaguarWoman wrote:

there is a button over the track headers that has a couple of horizonal lines, dots, and a diagonal line connecting them, this will display the Automation curves.
you could also enter "automation" under GB's Help menu for more info

I have a file that was created in FH 11 and I am using same version.Originator opens this file and everything is fine and also an earlier version opens it fine. When I open it it shifts the links 1/8" up and to the left.Has anybody ever had this happen to them?

What file format(s) are the "links"?
If raster images, do they contain clipping paths or transparency?
What is your platform and OS?
Were the FH documents created on the same platform (Mac or PC) as the one you are currently using?
Were the linked files created on the same platform (Mac or PC) as the one you are currently using?
Can you reproduce the problem with a newly created document and the same linked images?
There was once an issue with transparent 1-bit TIFF images shifting, but I believe that was in a previous version of FH.

  • I have Imovie 9.02 installed but it fails to show videoclips and movies in the show window. What can I do to make it function? This functioned in an earlier version.

In an earlier version of Imovie I was  able to see every clip in the show window. This does not function with my present version. I hava also changed from Mac Book to Mac Book Pro butI cannot se why this should have anything to do with the problem. I have also tried with an extra screen but it does not help. What is wrong in my case?

  • Can't open projects with Imovie 5 that were created with earlier version

I can't open my Imovie projects that I created when using Mac OS 9.2 now that I'm using Tiger and Imovie 5.
I'm not sure what version of Imovie I created them with. Do I need to find an earlier version and open them in the classic environment, or is there some way of converting or importing them?
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

Theoretically iMovie 5 can convert old projects, but projects created in Mac OS 9.2 can be quite difficult, for OS 9 is very different than OS X. More about that here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=-1&messageID=1677339
Your best option is to use the version of iMovie that you used originally to edit the project. If the projects are really old, that may require starting up your Mac in Mac OS 9 (instead of running iMovie in the Classic environment, which is Mac OS 9 running inside Mac OS X.)
Your best solution may be to boot up in Mac OS 9 and use your old version of iMovie to export the project back to the camera, then boot into Mac OS X and import the tape into iMovie 5.
If you don't have a camera, export to a Full Quality DV movie, then import that movie into iMovie 5.
The camera will (probably) deliver the clips to iMovie 5 as clips, while the export to a Full Quality DV movie will not.
By the way, to see which version of iMovie last edited the project, drop the project file on the TextEdit icon in the Dock. The version is shown at the top of the file.
iMovie 2.1.2 was the first version to run in OS X, I believe. The last version to run in OS 9 had the same version number, unfortunately.
If your Mac doesn't let you start up in Mac OS 9, then say more about exactly what happens when you try to convert the project. Do you get error messages? What are they?

  • Have IPhoto 5.0.4 ;warning says quit and UPgrade to earlier version!!

After sucessfully downloading todays new photos and seeing that my complete library was available, I attempted to send emails of four of them; got interminaable spinning ball; would not accept command quit, force quit so had to shut down. Can not re-open I Photo: get "loading"... interrupted by following: " The photo library was created with an unreleased version of IPhoto. Please quit and upgrade this library by opening it in IPhoto 2 or IPhoto 4."
Of course I can not UPgrade to an earlier version and I do not know what to make of the 'unreleased' bit, since my 5.0.4 version came with this brand new IBook. I have tried to download 5.0.4 again but result is same.
These pictures on this library include the last shots of my close companion taken just before death last Thurday, Dec. 22. Please, please help me. Bill
IBook   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   1.42 GHz Power PC -1.5 GB DDR SDRAM

    Hi makuakane,
So far I have not seen any solution for that error message in these discussions. If you have a recent backup of your iPhoto Library folder then take the old library out of the Pictures folder and put your backup library in there (I suggest you backup the backup before you do this) Launch iPhoto and hopefully everything will be back to normal. If you don't have a backup then...
The only thing I can tell you to do right now is to create a new library and import/add to the library to reimport your images.
    these are the steps:
    Close iPhoto
Drag the iPhoto Library folder to the desktop
    Launch iPhoto
In the next window that opens choose to create a new library.
When the new empty library opens go to File/add to library
In the next window navigate to the library on your desktop, highlight it in the window and hit the "open" button.
Your images will be imported in nice dated rolls. (make sure your view is set to sort by rolls to see it) There are a couple of caveats to this. You will get rolls named "Originals" These rolls will contain your video clips and your original images that you had edited. If you had RAW files they would be in those rolls too (I don't do RAW, so I don't know for sure) Delete what you don't want from those rolls. You will also get the jpeg pointer files to your video clips imported. They will just be jpegs and will not point to the video clips anymore as iPhoto made new ones when the clips were imported again. You can delete those. they should be in a roll right next to the newly imported video clips so they are not hard to find. The thumbnail files don't get imported as iPhoto makes new ones when the images are imported.
You will have to redo your albums, keywords, etc.
    Good luck!
    Lori

  • Downgrade to an earlier version

I'm having trouble with the "bugs" in version six. The workarounds haven't solved them. Is it possible to downgrade to an earlier version such as 2 or 3?
A friend doing similar work has version 3 and doesn't have the issues I do.
    Thanks.

    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I'm with you, Dale. iMovie 6.0 is the worst! I have wasted a lot for time trying to import photos, do voiceovers and even save. Cannot do voiceovers (click the red button and it takes 1-4 minutes to start recording), photos are fuzzy & Ken Burns effect does not work, and takes forever to save. Don't even think about emptying the trash! I learned iMovie 5.0 on my iMac G5 but iMovie 6.0 ***** on my dual 2.7 G5 wit h2 gigs of ram and lots of HD space. I may fire up the iMac just to do this one project, but I'd need to import 2 hours of clips again and add over 2000 photos to iPhoto 5.0. No happy solution...

  • Can Creative Cloud applications open all earlier versions of CS files?

    Hello
My apologies if this question is answered elsewhere.  I am considering a subscription to CC for either InDesign only, or the entire suite.  Can someone please confirm to me whether CC applications can only open files from certain earlier versions, and if so, which ones?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Paul

ID should be able to open pretty much any file back to CS2, but you may lose some components since e.g. clipping paths and transparency handling have changed over the years. Same would be true for Illustrator - stuff may get expanded or render differently. PS files should be compatible with any version as long as they have been saved with maximum compatibility settings.

  • Downloading an earlier version of an app

Hi - my first post ever to the apple community. I am an owner of an iPhone 5S and a 1st gen iPad. I want to get GarageBand on my iPad (not iPhone) and understand that I need to buy the latest version (which is not compatible with my iPad), and then sync it to my iPad when I will be offered an earlier compatible version. I downloaded the new version to my PC, tried to sync the iPad, but then got the message "The app "GarageBand" was not installed on the iPad because it requires a newer version of iPad software".
What am I doing wrong? I checked previous issues other people had with this and it seems as though what I did above was what was recommended, but for some reason it hasn't worked with me. Any help gratefully received!

Update: (after being on live chat with the excellent support team) appears I need to download the app directly onto iPad from App store and I will be offered earlier version. If this doesn't work I will update on Monday, otherwise no need to respond. Thanks.
