GarageBand upgrade

When I try to upgrade to 2.0.2 I get Alert An eligible GarageBand application was not found in /Applications.
But I can use the GarageBand that I have it is GB V 3.0.0 and this on a iMac intl dueo. Can some one help me.
Chuck R.

As you have 3.0.0, 2.0.2 would be a downgrade, even if it worked
What you need to do is, firstly download and apply the 3.0.2 updater:
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/garageband302update.html
and then download and apply the 3.0.4 updater:
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/garageband304.html
You do need to do both, you can't go straight from 3.0.0 to 3.0.4.
This will bring you fully up-to-date.

  • Unable to purchase Garageband upgrade

I'm trying to upgrade my Garageband on my iMac but I think my nephew's iTunes account might be linked to it. As I type in my new account information to buy the upgrade, I get the following message:
Unable to Purchase - This item is for an app that was purchased by a different Apple ID. To buy this item with this Apple ID, you must first purchase the app.
I would like to know what steps do I have to take in order to change the account connected to my Garageband.
    Thanks in advance,
    AB

    Andrea,
what is your garageBand version? And which upgrade are you trying to buy?
If you are trying to buy the in-app purchase for GarageBand 10.0, and GarageBAnd has been installed with the wrong AppleID, delete the app from the Applications folder and sign into the AppStore (from the "Store" menu: Sign in) with your regular AppleID.
Then buy GarageBand again for free, this time using your account.
If you are asking about a different upgrade, post back.

  • Upgrading OS X--where's the new GarageBand

Hi folks. Several months ago I upgraded to OS X.4-something. Since I-life is part of the OSX package, I was expecting a GarageBand upgrade. But I noticed at the time that I couldn't find a version of GarageBand on my HD that's newer than V 1.1 (26). I did a default, routine install and had no problems.
So what's up? How can I get a more recent garageband?
BTW: the reason this is urgent now is that I have to compress some interviews recorded in GarageBand for archiving--and the version I have won't export several of the files. That option just isn't available. (I exported one successfully but several others won't work).
    Thanks,
    Jim

One of the "cat" updates did include an old version of iLife, but it was the version before the current version of iLife that was available when the upgrade came out.
    Uh, if that makes sense.
I guess it was so confusing that Apple stopped including it.

I cannot open GarageBand on my iPad gen 1. The GB icon stay darkened (shaded) and is labeled 'pause' or 'waiting'. My iOS 5.1.1 GarageBand ver. 1.2.1. Sometimes a dialog box appears and reads, "unable to complete download" and "consider freeing up space, go to settings." Problem is I'm not tying to download GarageBand upgrade because it requires iOS 6 or higher. Does Apple have. Archive sites with older versions of GarageBand?

No, it will still stay as IOS 7.0.4

  • Missing instrument sounds after upgrading from '11 to 10

When I upgraded from Garageband '11 to 10, a messaged appeared on my screen asking me if I wanted to download several gigabytes of extra instruments sounds.
Of course I pressed the "Okay" button, and the progress bar showed that the data were downloaded.
But I don't know where those instrument sounds went to, and what name they're under, and where to look for them, because there was no window that appeared after the download to show the location of the new instrument sounds or information saying that they had been installed in Garageband.
My downloads folder on my Mac doesn't show any relevant file or folder from the date when I upgraded.
I already bought Mainstage a year or two ago and downloaded the Jam Packs via Mainstage at that time, and I don't know if those Jam Packs have anything to do the "extra" instrument sounds that I supposedly downloaded as part of my Garageband upgrade.

For example, if the additional content has been installed, you should be seeing these drummers, if you select a Drummer Track:

  • Upgrading to Garageband '09

Quick question. Im thinking about upgrading to the new ilife 09 mainly for garageband. I was wondering if i will have a problem importing projects ive been working on in garageband4.1 to garageband 09. i just have a concern as far as any effects i have put on real instruments and how they transfer into this new layout in the track editors and so on. Thanks

Older projects will open fine. 09 has yet to ship.

  • How do I update GarageBand after upgrading to Yosemite 10.10.1

I have GarageBand on my MacBook Pro but have recently upgraded to Yosemite OS X 10.10.2. I wanted to use GarageBand but rec'd a message that there is a newer version. I didn't think I should have to pay for an upgrade in the App Store. How do I update my version of GarageBand?

Which version of GarageBand do you currently have?
Updates are free (when the first number of the version number stays the same), but upgrades to a major new release require a purchase (when the first part of the version number changes).  So the upgrade from GarageBand '11, version 6.0.5 to GarageBand 10.0.3 is a major upgrade, that requires a purchase.
If you decide to upgrade, do not replace your current GarageBand version, if you are currently running GarageBand 6.0.5. Keep both versions. The new GarageBand is very different from version 6.0.5 - it is more like Logic than GarageBand. It comes with nice new features like smart drummers, but but older audio units are no longer support. If you decide to upgrade your system, keep your current GarageBand as well. Both can be used in parallel and you will need the sounds and loops from the previous version to play your older projects. This forum is full of desperate questions about how to get the previous version back, because instruments are missing or podcasts no longer supported.

  • After upgrading to Mountain Lion, I repurchased Garageband and I can't get passed the complete installation. I don't seem to have the "com.apple.garageband.plist" file that has been a common solution. Any suggestions?

After upgrading to Mountain Lion, I repurchased Garageband and I can't get passed the complete installation. I've read through several posts that all reference the "com.apple.garageband.plist" solution. I don't seem to have the referenced .plist. Any solutions or suggestions?

    Did you upgrade from SnowLeopard?
I can't get passed the complete installation
What exactly is happening? Is GarageBand trying to download over and over again?
all reference the "com.apple.garageband.plist" solution. I don't seem to have the referenced .plist.
The property list stores your preferences, but also the settings from the last run of the application.  If that file is corrupted in some way, you might see third behaviour.
You must have this file, for it will be recreated automatically, if it is missing, or you have a permissions problem with your user library.
Perhaps you did look in he wrong place.
in MacOS 10.7. or later the User Library is hidden. To find the Preferences Files use the Finder's "Go" menu:
Quit GarageBand, if it is running.
Click onto you Desktop to bring the Finder forward.
In the Finder Menu press "Go" and hold down the "option/alt" key, until your user library appears in the drop-down menu
Select "Library" and in the Finder window that opens navigate to the "Prederences" folder; move com.apple.garageband.plist to the Desktop.
Log off and on again (don't skip that step!). Retry GarageBand and see if it GarageBand is now downloading the missing content properly.
If that does not fix the problem, post back and explain in more detail what the download problem is.
Why did you "repurchase" GarageBand? If you already owned GarageBand '11, it should be unnecessary.

Even now when I share the Garageband created files with iTunes 11.1.1, the volime I previously set in Garageband is retained. However, when I use the music to create a slide show in iPhoto 2008 and export to Quicktime 7.6.6, the volume level I previously set is lost and seems to default to a low level. The problem seems to be either in the slide show export from iPhoto 2008 to Quicktime 7.6.6 or in Quicktime itself. Is there a work around, so that I can retain the volume level I had previously set in Garageband, a volume level that seems to transfer without problem to the new iTunes. But then iPhoto 2008 (slide show) possibly or Quicktime 7.6.6 do not cooperate. Before I did the upgrade to Snow Leopard, the new iTunes and Quicktime I had no problems with the set volume being retained in the old Quicktime. The reason I need control over the volume is that all these music files are uploaded to YouTube.

  • Please help:Midipipe no longer works after Garageband/iMac upgrades

Hi. I was wondering if anyone could help. I use my Yamaha Dtxplorer electronic drums to record drums on my iMac's Garageband program. I use a program called "midipipe" to assign the correct midi drum pad sounds before the signal goes into Garageband, and then I use the "EZdrummer" plug-in to get more realistic drums sounds. Here's the problem. In June 2011, I upgraded my iMac to "Snow Leopard" (Mac OS 10.6.7), and at the same time, I upgraded Garageband to Garageband '11 (ie Garageband 2011). Now that I did those 2 upgrades, I can no longer get midipipe to work in any way. There are NO drums sounds coming out through midipipe now, and when trying to tweak the settings, there is no longer any way to click the "hijack" checkbox on the midipipe "midi in" setting. The "hijack" button is now "greyed-out" and cannot be selected. Now I can no longer use my drums with Garageband, which is really, really disheartening. It seems like all I run into with my iMac and Garageband is nothing but problems and glitches that are making me considering recording my music on a Windows computer, and ditching my iMac altogether. I've already tried repeatedly to create new "pipes" with midipipe, but nothing will work since I cannot select the "hijack" button anymore. This problem occurred only after the Garageband and iMac upgrades, and midipipe used to work PERFECTLY with garageband and ezdrummer before. Nothing else in my set-up has changed.
If anyone has ANY possible solutions, please help. I've wasted so much time with this computer already. All I want is for it to work properly. Thank you very much in advance.
    Rich

Hi JMX. No, I've had no luck trying to figure out the problem, which started ever since I upgraded my iMac and upgraded Garbageband. No replies except yours, and I googled a bunch of web pages trying to find an answer. The guy who programmed the Midipipe program didn't reply either. I'm thinking about getting a Windows computer to record music, along with Protools. Have horrible luck with Garageband since the day I bought my iMac, unfortunately. Nothing but glitches and problems.
But I wish you (and anyone else running into the same problem) the best of luck. I just don't have the patience for the contstant obstacles when trying to use an Apple Mac to record songs.

  • I have Garageband version 4.1.2 (248.7) installed on my early 2008 IMAC Version 10.5.8. I have never upgraded but have a LOT of projects. If I upgrade my operating system to the next level (10.6?), will my GB version still work? Do I need to upgrade GB?

v4 is pretty lonh in the tooth now, and GB only costs $15, so I'd think it's a good idea

the only version you can buy new is v6,a nd it should open older projects without issue ... however you could keep 4 around:

  • Just upgraded to iTunes 10.4 - Now I can't drag files from iTunes to Garageband

Has anyone else experienced this problem?
I do a podcast and keep my bed music, sfx and whatnot in iTunes. When I need something I just drag it from iTunes and into GarageBand (4.1.2).
I upgraded iTunes last night (10.4) and now it no longer allows me to drag directly into GarageBand. I have to drag the file out of iTunes, then move it to GB.
Anyone else have this problem and find a fix?

Well, just finished my weekly podcast using Garageband and the "new and improved" iTunes. Here are the clunkers I've found:
    1. Original problem of not being able to drag from iTunes to GarageBand. JamButty, I'll try out your workaround... for this show I literally had to drag all of the files I needed out of iTunes into a folder... Then why use iTunes at all?! Really stupid.
    2. I noticed when I dragged the final show off of iTunes to a folder I use to upload to my S3 account, it now just has the black mp3 icon... not the image I use for the show. Granted, not a functional problem, but just stupid none the less why they would eliminate that.
    3. Show notes in the metadata. Usually I'd copy my first paragraph of show notes (what goes on the web page) into Info > Comments in the metadata. And, if was too long, it would just chop off the end of it. This time I got a "bink" sound and nothing copied in. Tried it a couple of different ways with the same results until I figured out to just put half the copy in. Again, stupid, useless, time-consuming change.
I love Apple to death, but I hate what they do sometimes. The make a great product... then eventually screw it up with dumb changes (for example, the latest version of Final Cut)

Use a program such as the Disk Utility, Carbon Copy Cloner, or SuperDuper to back your entire system up to an external drive.
