GarageBand v.10 vs. v.6: what about all the support files?

Never used GarageBand myself, so I don't know much about it. Redoing setup of a friend's older model iMac, I install some of the iLife 2011 apps, but see that the App Store offers the latest GarageBand v.10 as a free install, so I go ahead with the latter. However, I note that the new GarageBand doesn't seem to install any of the very large array of support files that the old GarageBand did (e.g. in /Library/Application Support/GarageBand). I wonder, does the new GarageBand use any of that stuff? If so, shouldn't it appear when GB 10 is installed?
I delete the new GarageBand and install GB 6.0 from the iLife install disc; it puts the usual 1.4GB of support files in /Library/Application Support/GarageBand (and others elsewhere, I believe). I then download/install the new GB v.10 again, noting that while the GB 6.0 application file (which has now been placed in a folder labeled "GarageBand 6.0) is some ~267 MB, the new GB 10 application is 1.2GB. So does the new GB include all its support files within the application? If/when I delete GB 6.0, shall I delete all the supporting files (which I recall from previous searches are spread out in various locations)? Anybody know about this?

Thanks, léonie, for the information; very helpful. I downloaded the updater for GB 6.0.5, but the Installer told me “The version of GarageBand installed on this Mac must be updated through the Mac App Store. Check the Mac App Store to see if an update is available.” Software Update / Mac App Store doesn’t show any update for any version of GarageBand.
Assuming that the presence of GB 10 prevents the Installer from seeing GB 6, I delete GB 10, pull GB 6 out of the folder where it was placed by the GB 10 installation, then Restart the iMac, and run the GB 6.0.5 Update again. Now it tells me “GarageBand 6.0 or later is required to install this update.” Uh, GarageBand 6.0 is right there in the Applications folder; it even says “GarageBand 6.0” below it.
Okay. I move GarageBand 6.0 to the Trash, and reinstall it from the iLife 11 disc, then Restart the iMac and try the GB 6.0.5 Update again. This time it works. Whew. I then download/install GB 10 again. I’ll leave it up to the iMac owner to decide where he wants to go with these.
Thanks again.

If you want to use multiple devices - move to imap, I would even say "exchange", but Google does not support free exchange anymore, since January of that year. So Ironically  Icloud or Hotmail would be my choices right now.
To find out more about what happens to you, search on Google "difference between pop and imap"

  • Got a new hard drive for Snow Leopard, but what about all the applications?

    Hi,
Installing Snow Leopard revealed a faulty hard drive, but Genius Bar got me a new hard drive and installed Snow Leopard and the rest of the Mac Box Set for me.
I'm putting my computer back together, and I had all my files backed up on a Passport, but what do I do about the applications that I had? I could use a reinstallation of Office for Mac and Final Cut Express. Can I ask the companies directly?

More reason to back up your +*entire system,+* whether with Time Machine, a "clone" app like CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper, and/or some other way.
You should still retain the original discs, of course, but having a full system backup greatly reduces the chance you'll need them.
For info on Time Machine, you might want to review the Time Machine Tutorial
and perhaps browse Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of the +Time Machine+ forum).

  • FF4 eliminated homepage. Re-updated 3.6.16, still have no homepage; so no email, etc--everything's gone. How do I get it back? If I set up new homepage, what about all the email? Am not computer savvy, can anyone help a computer nerd?

When Firefox is opened, my home page is blank. Bookmarks are still there, & all seem to work except 'myyahoo', which is my home page. Screen is blank below toolbar, etc. Cannot get 'myyahoo' to come up. According to many other questions I read, everyone had some kind of trouble when they updated to Firefox 4; restoring to 3.6.16 seemed to solve the majority of those problems. It did not help me.

When I use find file http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/30073/find-file (which does tend to find files that "Finder" can't), it's not coming up with any other itunes library files that have been modified in the past week, which I know it would have been - unfortunately, I don't have a very recent backup of the hard drive.  It would be a few months old so it wouldn't have the complete library on it....any ideas?  I'm wondering if restarting the computer might help but have been afraid to do so in case it would make it harder to recover anything...I was looking at this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4211589?start=0&tstart=0 in the hopes that it might have a helpful suggestion but it's definitely a different scenario.

Spotlight lists items and shows preview images.  BUT what about showing the path/location address of an item in my computer.
Especially important if I've put the item in the wrong folder and what to locate it without multi-steps. iMac OS X 10.5 was more useful.
Old OSX Spotlight function automatically displayed path/location within the machine:  e.g. desktop/folder/sub-folder/item.
Can I make Spotlight show the path?

Press option-command and the path is displayed at the bottom of the little preview window.  Press command-return and the enclosing folder opens.

  • What's all the fuss about iOS6 maps???

For starters, I'm not an iFan... My first smartphone was a BB and I used to swear by it. I found (and sometimes still do) that the iPhone was more of a toy while the BB was a professional tool. I still prefer the BB Bold's keyboard for typing emails than the iPhone's touchscreen keyboard. I ended up buying a 4S earlier this year (March) only because BB had no Outlook Exchange license available where I lived (Maldives) and it was either Android or iPhone, so the choice was clear there. Since then, I've come to grow quite fond of it and am quite happy with the integrations and functionality of the phone albeit it being slightly more time-consuming to send out emails.
The iPhone 5 launch event came out and I looked at all the details. Here's my conclusion: an extra row or icons, a slightly faster processor and most of all 4G. Now, I don't really need an extra row of icons... In fact, I sometimes find the 4S a little too long (jeans pockets along with a pack of cigarettes: cigarette pack usually loses and looks like it's been trampled by a herd of elephants...). So, I'm not in for a bigger screen as the current one's just fine. I never found my 4S to lack speed so I don't really care about the faster processor either. 4G? I love it! But I live in China now... It will be a while before it'll come out here, so why bother for the moment? It's complicated enough as it is as China Mobile (biggest network and best coverage, which I am also currently on) doesn't even have 3G for the iPhone. Only EDGE, but I make do... China Unicom offer 3G for iPhones but not as good a coverage... So, what to do? So in the end, a 4S with the brand new iOS6 update to me sounds better than going out to buy a new iPhone 5.
Update has been out for 3 days now. And before I went ahead and updated I checked the reviews, comments and discussions... WOW! It would seem Apple has opened the wraths of **** upon the world and that the Apocalypse is upon us when reading on about all the bugs and issues. And everyone goes on and on about the maps... It's made it onto CNN, BBC and just about anyone with an iota of grey matter and a keyboard. There are even comments mentioning that Asia is practically mapless with the new native app. I froze! No way in **** was I going to update if I was going to lose such functionality. I've just arrived here 2 months ago, don't speak a word of the local language, feel like getting an audience with the Pope is simpler than giving a cab driver directions and the Google Maps app has often been a lifesaver for me here so far... As much as I want to get my hands on the rest of the new functions, it was a risk not worth taking.
Today I bump into a colleague of mine at work and he's just updated his iPad (2nd gen) to iOS6. I tell him all I've heard about the maps and he brings it up to the restaurant for lunch. I'm scrolling through the new map app and honestly don't find much of a difference. Now, seeing as everyone is whining about the uselessness of the directions the new app gives, I give it a test. I search for the Park Hyatt in Beijing. The Google Maps app used to give me 3 different results. The new app gives me one result only, it's correct and gives me the right directions to get there...
So, what is all the fuss on the new update??? So Apple got rid of Google Maps... Yes, it'll take time to get better but Apple so far have usually managed to do a pretty good job at doing that. At first, everyone was complaining about battery drainage... Nobody mentions it anymore... Strange... Is this intentional Apple bashing?... From what I've seen so far, I still don't get what all the fuss is about.
I'm going ahead with the update... Will let you know how it goes!

    Hi,
What's the worst that I've spent 100 Eur alltogether for GPS map based applications for several sports - golf, bike, ski, etc. These applications use data from iPhone Map application and its disaster after my update onto iOS 6. These are pictures of 2 of my favorit golf resorts:
And here one example from a place where I use to bike:
    Very nice, isn't it?
And unfortunately this problem won't disappear even when Google put stand alone map application into iStore.
So I have only way to downgrade to 5.1.1 immediately to not throw away money I already spent.

  • How to identify what are all the events are created in background jobs?

    Hi all,
how to identify what are all the events are created for  background jobs. And what events gets triggered for a particular job.
    thanxs
    haritha

    Hi Haritha,
JOB is a program which starts to a determined point of time and executes some standard programs in the system. JOBs can be planed to a determined point of time on the regular basis (every night, for example) or to some discret time moments. So, the JOB can be planed and then will be started automatically without the manual start.
Realtime programs are understood in the most cases as actual program execution which is started by somebody to the actual moment of time.
Typically per JOBs some special processes will be started that should be executed automatically and regularly: for example, IDOC application, some correction reports, statistic updates etc.
Standard jobs are those background jobs that should be run regularly in a production SAP System These jobs are usually jobs that clean up parts of the system, such as by deleting old spool requests.
    Use
As of Release 4.6C, the Job Definition transaction ( sm36 ) provides a list of important standard jobs, which you can schedule, monitor, and edit.
Standard jobs are those background jobs that should be run regularly in a production SAP System. These jobs are usually jobs that clean up parts of the system, such as by deleting old spool requests.
for more information you can go thru the following thread:

    About Events:
Events have meaning only in the background processing system. You can use events only to start background jobs.
Triggering an event notifies the background processing system that a named condition has been reached. The background processing system reacts by starting any jobs that were waiting for the event.
    Types of Events:
There are two types of events:
1.)System events are defined by SAP. These events are triggered automatically when such system changes as the activation of a new operation mode take place.
2.)User events are events that you define yourself. You must trigger these events yourself from ABAP or from external programs. You could, for example, signal the arrival of external data to be read into the SAP system by using an external program to trigger a background processing event. The event scheduler processes an event if the event is defined in the system.
For example, if a system (System 1) receives an event from another system (System 2), the event scheduler of System 1 processes the event only if it is defined in System 1. That event does not need to be defined in System 2 (the sending system).
You define an event by assigning a name (EVENTID) to it. When defining an event, you do not define the event arguments.
for more information you can go thru the following thread:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/fa/096e2a543b11d1898e0000e8322d00/frameset.htm
When you schedule the process chain or infopackages the jobs associated with it run in the background mode. In case you want to create a job for a specific activity you can do so in SM36. You would be creating jobs that would get executed in any one of the options:
    1. Immediate
    2. Date & Time
    3. After event.
    4. After job.
    5. At Operation mode.
In case you want to view the job logs go to sm37.
Also Pls check DB02 for database performance and ST03 for workload .
Analyse u will have an idea ,

  • What is Reservations in MM & what are all the settings?

    Hi SAP Experts,
What is Reservation? what are all the configuration settings needs to be done to implement Reservations?
can you please help me out by giving detailed information about Reservation?
    Kindly do on priority basis
    Regards,
    Somu

    Hi
Not much configuration is required for reservations.
In IMG -- MM -- Inventory and phy inventory management -- define default values
Here you need to mention number of days within movement allowed will activate automatically for eacha plant.
No. of days the reservation can be retained without deletion
Dyanic availability check:  Here you can mention avalability check requirement during Goods movements.
    Reservations:
It is a simple MM functionality, here based on the requirement different user departments will create the reservation for future required dates.
That will help procurement departments to plan for the materials as well accountability of various goods issues.
Same can be done through MB21, MB22 for create and change respectively.

  • What are all the subjobs that get called for when a load is scheduled.

Can any one please tell me - "when I schedule a load to my Infocube or ODS or other data target, what are all the sub jobs/requests that get called for? Like if I go and see in Tcode SM37, I see several jobs running. Any input is greatly rewarded. Thankyou!!!!

    Hi,
Adding to what is mentioned above, if its scheduled if its a BW datamart load scheduled in background you can see that in  SM37 job log (give BIrequest name) (In source system if load is from R/3) and it should give you the details about the request.
SM66 > Get the job details (server name PID etc from SM37) and see in SM66 if the job is running or not. (In source system if load is from R/3 or in BW if its a datamart load). See if its accessing/updating some tables or is not doing anything at all.
Also try SM50/SM51 to find that job.
Try RSMO from the Infopackage monitor.
    Thanks,
    JItuK

  • What LDB is and what are all the events we have in that..?

    Hi,
Kindly let me know what LDB is and what are all the events we have in that..?
    Akshitha.

    Hi akshitha,
    1. A logical database is in fact
    a program only.
    2. This LDB provides two main things :
    a) a pre-defined selection screen
which handles all user inputs and validations
    b) pre defined set of data
    based upon the user selection.
    3. So we dont have to worry about from
    which tables to fetch data.
    4. Moreover, this LDB Program,
    handles all user-authorisations
and is efficient in all respects.
    5. tcode is SLDB.
    1. To get a taste of it.
    2. create a new z program.
    3. while creating type PNP
    in logical database field.
    4. paste this code and execute.
    REPORT ABC.
    infotypes : 0001.
    TABLES : PERNR.
    GET PERNR.
    WRITE :/ PERNR-PERNR.
    5. The selection screen which u see
is coming from logical database PNP program.
    6. Execute
    7. U will get a list of pernr.
    SAPDBPNP
this is the main program of LDB PNP
    which does the main work.
    SAPDB + ldb name.

  • What are all the objects can be imported  and exported...

    Hi all,
what are all the objects can be imported ..
and what are all objects exported....in XI..
and what is context objects and logical routing..
    Cheers,
    Raghavesh

    Hi,
Your question 1 is not very clear. Are you taking about Export and Import under TOOLS --> EXPORT / IMPORT? If yes, all objects created in the IR and ID can be exported and improted. They are used for moving your objects from one environement to another .TPZ files.
Individual Objects that can be improted in the IR  are those that come under
    1. External Definitions --> XSD, WSDL, DTD which acts
    as the message types.
    2. Idocs and RFC's.
    3. Imported Archives -->External Mapping progrars ( Java and XSLT ) , external .jar files etc.
Context objects is nothing but to put in simple words an XPATH. At times XPATH can become too long and complex and to avoid typing them at different places, you create CONTEXT Objects for these path and then use them.
Logical Routing refers to Conditional Receievr / Interface Determination where on the basis on some conditoon your target Recievr / Interface is determined.

    Bhavesh
