Garageband with Digimax Presonus Preamps and Ensoniq Controller - Good?
I guess people got tired of answering my other thread .. I just need a couple of more answers to my small studio setup questions ..
I have 2 Digimax 8 channel Presonus preamps each with their own power supply .....
And an Ensoniq 16 channel controller .... will all this work with GarageBand or Logic Express?
Is the controller a weak point?
I'm leaning towards Getting a dual core intel iMac and an external firewire drive ..
Should I record, mix and edit on the iMac and archive unto the external drive and also make dvd backups?
I'll probably be doing some other things on the iMac ... surfing net, email etc ... nothing too heavy ...
Thanks ....
That sounds like an excellent setup to me (I'm another FirePod user and love it).
As for the iControl, all it does is replace mouse and keyboard controls, so you definitely do not need it. I imagine it would be nice to have, but if it's not in the budget, it doesn't really do anything you can't do with your mouse/keyboard (it does have a MIDI port, though, so you could plug a MIDI controller into it)

Please help !! I can record multiple tracks (8) on a single presonus firestudio, but now I'm trying to expand the number of tracks to 24 by daisy-chaining three firestudio devices.
The three units will sync up properly, and Garageband detects all of the input channels, but the recording doesn't pick up the input signals for the 2nd or 3rd device. It only picks up the signals from the first device. I read the manual and daisy-chained the devices by serial number (lowest to highest).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

you'll need to create an aggregate device:

AP with Clean-air Express and 3650 controller
Hi,
Is Clean-air express supported on the 3650 wireless controller with 1602e APs? The Clean-air options on the controller are available but do not seem to be active. In the controller gui the Clean-air admin status is disabled and the Clean-air operation status is down. I did confirm the Clean Air option is enabled on the config menu for the b/g/n band. Am I missing something here or are these AP's just not supported? Thanks!CleanAir Express is different than CleanAir. Express means that the AP does the function of detection, not the controller. 1600's & 1700's run CleanAir Express and you don't have the 100% functionality of CleanAir with these access points.

Kernel Panic when using Garageband with Blue Snowball USB mic
*HI ALL,*
*I purchased Mac Pro recently about 3 weeks ago. I am on the latest updates including the recent firmware update. However whenever I use garageband with external USB mic(Blue Snowball) my Kernel Panics and OS freezes and forces me to Power On again. It happened 20 times so far in few hours.*
*I opened garageband first time today after bought this external mic from apple store. I did not use garageband without this mic plugged into USB, I only used garageband with MIC plugged in and in couple of minutes to 5 minutes of using garageband the Kernel Panic occurs. Need your help please. Here is the message I get after login again which I reported consistently to Apple. Any immediate help is appreciated. I use iMove, iPhoto and other apps without any problem. Harddisk verification went o.k.*

Problems with Presonus Firestudio and Logic
I am having problems with compatability with my brand new Presonus Firestudio recording interface and Logic pro 8. I am new to logic but not to home recording, and i cant understand what might be the problem. When i use the firestudio with garageband it works easily. In the garageband sound preferences there are input AND output channels that the user can define. (i.e. you can set your input channels to come from the firestudio while the output channels go to the computer speakers or headphone jacks or whatever you define it as).
From what i have seen in logic, there is only one option for your audio settings. when in preferences and under audio, there is a "device" setting in which you can define your audio device. Wheather this is input AND output for the program, i do not know. but the problem i am experiencing is that whenever i choose the firepod as the input device, no sound from logic will play from the speakers whatsoever. My first thought was that maybe ouput was going straight to the firestudio, but after plugging headphones into it this also did not work. Has anyone had success getting their firestudio to work in logic? if so let me know what settings you had to use, and how you got to moniter your input from from the firestudio via your computer.
p.s.
another WIERD problem i have run into, is that if i shut off the firestudio while logic is open, alot of times it will shut down my whole computer. i have never heard of this happening. what am i doing wrong?
thanks!SydSeale wrote:

ah, I was hoping to find my solution here, but alas the thread is gone...
I recently bought a Macbook running Leopard, and am having difficulties with my PreSonus Firestudio Project thru Logic and Mainstage. I can get audio input and output just fine, but there's a ton of distortion/crackle. Kickstarting the sample rate seems to clear it up for a minute or two, but then the crackle comes back. The recorded tracks sound clean if I unplug the Firestudio, so apparently it's only in the monitoring stage?
On the PreSonus board, they're claiming it's Apple who needs to update drivers for Leopard; PreSonus says the "Firestudio Project is Leopard compatible."

I think this card do not properly support HDD above 120G.

Btw: you have xp sp2 ?
48bitLBA is not enabled in the first version.

Here's another with complete different setup and same problems
http://forum.tweakxp.com/forum/Topic212148-4-1.aspx
I doubt it has anything to do with your motherboard and/or bios.
Btw: I looked at innovision and their drivers in download area are very old.
Get the latest SIL3112 drivers for XP here:
http://www.siliconimage.com/support/supportsearchresults.aspx?pid=63&cid=3&ctid=2&osid=4&
And remember 3112 is sata150 only , so it's not sure it will work with your drive at all .
Anyway it should be set to fixed sata1.5G with jumper - not certain the controller can autonegotiate
without trouble. You cannot have command queing enabled either , disk support only NCQ and controller TCQ
so having command queing set ON will cause major conflicts in data transfers. -
I Dont know what changed or when it changed, but I created a song in garageband on my iPhone 5s with iOS 8.1 and I selected it to export it to iMovie and when I selected that iMovie wasn't an option. I'm not sure if it's a GarageBand issue or an iMovie issue or an iOS 8.1 issue. Can I change it in settings or do I have to wait for another update or what?
Which screen exactly is missing, when you select a song in "My Songs" and press the "Share" button
? The "Open in ..." in the first screenshot?
You may have to scroll the panel upward to see the second row with the
After pressing "Open in", you will first see the dialog to set the parameters of the shared song, before the second screen will be presented.

Why am I getting an intermittent buzz with preamp and studio monitors?
I've just gotten rid of my desktop computer speakers which plug into the mini-headphone audio out on my Macbook Pro (i7, 2.66, mid 2010). Instead, I've connected via firewire 800 to an older 8 ch Presonus Firestudio Project preamp, and have connected a new pair Fostex powered studio monitors to that for my audio (and scratch recording). When I first start playing music in iTunes it all sounds great. But after a while, I'l start to get these periodic loud electronic buzzes. It's not just in the background, it actually will cut off the song to make the loud sound for a brief second. Over time it will become more frequent, and at one point it got to the point that it was just a constant buzz, no audio at all. Unplugging firewire stops it. Since there are a number of components, I'm not sure what is causing the problem. Can anyone help?
The update didn't apply correctly, which will be typically due to an interuption within your setup. You will have to connect to iTunes via micro usb to restore.

alled in PCI-bus IBM PC, which does not have GPIB interface. Which way would be easier for developing my own instrument driver: a new GPIB controller + interface or 2915 Kinetic Sys. PCI-bus in-slot interface? Can the latter interface be used with LabView?

Thanksalled in PCI-bus IBM PC, which does not have GPIB interface. Which way would be easier for developing my own instrument driver: a new GPIB controller + interface or 2915 Kinetic Sys. PCI-bus in-slot interface? Can the latter interface be used with LabView?Victor,
I couldn't find an Instrument Driver for the 3932 crate controler. There is a driver for the 3988: http://zone.ni.com/idnet97.nsf/9b2b33e1993d877786256436006ec498/045f8392cc4d1b01862568ab005fbb49?OpenDocument
If you look at the driver it isn't too complex. Well ... actaully there are certain differences when using the 3988 GPIB controller that the driver takes care of that relate to correctly passing commands (FAN).
If the 3922 controller is similar then maybe you can use the 3988 driver and modify it to meet your needs. I'm not familar with the 2915 Kinetic system so I'm not sure what would be easier.
If you have a GPIB board, then you could try using the 3988 driver with your 3922 controller and see if you can modify the driver to get things to work.
I
've only used the 3988 and that was quite three years ago but it might be worth a try.
Best of luck,

I'm stupid! help with audio in port and fender telecaster
hi there!
I'm new to garageband.
i would like to record my fender telecaster electric guitar right from the audio input on my g4 powerbook.
i heard that it can be done with out buying usb input recording devices. (also no i have limited $$$. 2 little kids)
can i just plug the 1/4 plug right into the audio in port?
i know if i go through my Marshall Amp directly in to the audio in port, i'll fry my sound card.
Can this be done without usb devices?Well, at least you got a Fender
No, I am afraid you are gonna need a pre amp of some sort to record your guitar. The G5 iMac has some kind of built in pre amp, but that is the only one we have heard about. If you Marshall has a line out, you can use that, but NOT the speaker out! If you like the way your Marshall sounds, and I assume it is a master volume model, then you should just mic it at whatever volume you can get away with playing where you record. Use something like a Shure SM57 and get yourself a decent audio interface. My guess is that if you have a Tele and a Marshall, once you get started, you'll never want to stop, so just get what you need and be done with it
Some other things to consider is that your hard drive on the PB is a slow drive. To get lots a tracks flowing, you are going to do a lot better with an external firewire drive (7200 RPM) just for your music.
You can get a decent USB device such as I have, the Tascam US-122, or if you can, spend the extra cash and a get a firewire interface such as the Presonus Firebox. I get along fine so far with my US-122 at about half the price of the firewire. I don't record my guitar direct and use the built in amp sims, though. I find them not as good as I can get micing my amps. And lately, I started using the Vox ToneLab for silent recording. I just leave it connected all the time, and when I want to record, I just turn it on, and plug in and start recording.
There is some thing called a Guitar Plug or something like that, that claims to allow you to record without a pre amp, but I really don't see how it can boost the signal to line level without a pre amp. Plus, with your slow drive, and using the amp sims, you are gonna bog down pretty quick, I'd think. The amp sims along with the effects presets for the basic guitar sounds are pretty CPU intense. Your best bet for good clean recording, is to get a mic, an interface, and mic that amp!
And do check out HangTime's FAQ page. That can save you a lot of frustration. -
Just Bought a Presonus Firebox and want to know if I really need to install
Just Bought a Presonus Firebox and want to know if I really need to install the presonus software that came with it?
Is it really necessary?
thanks, technoreidThe Firebox Mixer allows you to set up different
routings for the monitors and headphones. You may
never use such features, but if you do, you'll
appreciate the flexibility. It can also be used to
provide lower latency monitoring of live signals than
you might get using softwre monitoring in Logic.
For most operation, you won't need it, and you'll
control everything from Logic and the front panel
level controls.
In my opinion, the Firebox is the king of small
interfaces.
Before worrying about a tube preamp, get some mics,
and learn how to use the EQ in Logic.
+1 a solid interface
personally i use the mixer feature to switch my main outs from 1-2 to 3-4 when using traktor to let 1-2 be the headphone cue.... ect.... -
Controlling GarageBand with Korg's Kontrol 49
I just got my new Korg Kontrol 49 and I have it connected to my new iMac G5. I saw a guy from Berklee College using the same setup this past summer at the MacWorld in Boston. He was able to control GarageBand with all of the sliders and knobs on the Kontrol 49.
Unfortunately, the manual and the Korg website has no info on this. Does anybody out there use a setup like this and can tell me how to configure it?I'm doubtful that you can do this with the Korg 49 and GarageBand.
You CAN however do this with Apple Logic Express and Apple Logic.
The only external controller gizmo that works with GarageBand 2 is M-Audio iControl.
Apple has expressed no interest in supporting additional controller interfaces for GarageBand.
There is one freeware GarageBand helper application that enables you to configure external controllers for basic transport control (start, stop, rewind, record). It's called GarageRemote:

Look at this thread: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=161964
Actually, I can start my DE (Gnome 3.8) manually with the following workaround:
First, I disable gdm on my machine
# systemctl disable gdm
After bootin the machine, I'm logging in into the console
$ startx
stopping the X system again
$ sudo systemctl start gdm
logging in into the Gnome Shell.
I need to start the X server first manually. Otherwise the gdm will hang again.

Hi!
I try to configure a Cisco 5508 Wireless controller and 25 Air-lap1041 to use as VoIP and data. I read documents, manuals, etc, but the AP doesn't charge the configuration, or not conect with the Wireless Controller, why? No Radius server present, only WPA security.howto, please...
I try to put a static ip in the LAP, with lwapp or capwap command, (LWAPP/CAPWAP ap ip address direccion mascara) and the AP returns "You should configure Domain and Name Server from controller CLI/GUI." and i can't change the name of the AP (Command is disabled).

Hola:
I buy a gigabit switch. I connect the service-port to gigabit switch, and laptop to gigabit switch. I used 192.168.1.x ip address (192.168.1.157 to service-port and 192.168.1.233 to wired port on laptop, well, the laptop has two ip adress, 192.168.1.233 and 209.165.200.2, and the laptop works ok. Ping to 209.165.200.230 -ip address of management interface- and ping to 209.165.200.203 -ip address for AP, is assigned by DHCP of WLC. And i connect the ap to gigabit switch, and the wlc assigns well an ip direction.
I post the run-config and sysinfo log. The gigabit switch is tp-link model tl-sg1005d, no configuration.
Before the logs, I see this message from AP:
*Apr 19 23:10:20.211: %CAPWAP-3-ERRORLOG: This AP is not supported in controller
version 6.0.199.4 ---->What's mean that? Is it compatible the ap with the WLC? ¿Es compatible el AP con el WLC?
Hola:
He comprado un switch gigabit.
*Apr 19 23:10:20.211: %CAPWAP-3-ERRORLOG: This AP is not supported in controller
version 6.0.199.4 ---->What's mean that? Is it compatible the ap with the WLC? ¿Es compatible el AP con el WLC?
Un saludo
