Garageband Won't Open

Ok, so I was trying to download some effects to improve garageband. However, they weren't working correctly and I deleted the program. Ever since this garageband won't open. Every time I open the program it asks "Where is the Waves plug-ins folder?" and pulls up the finder for you to show where it is. I tried uprgading to garageband 3 (I had GB 1) as I was told by the cashier at the apple store that it would reinstall all the plugins I need.
Anyone know where I can find or get the Waves plug-ins folder? Thanks so much! I use this program in my live keyboard rig every week and I was quite limited without the program.
Thank you,
Jared

Thanks. Downloading the software again from Waves allowed me to open GB. The thing is I never used any plugins from this program in any of my GB projects and none of them would open until I reinstalled the Waves program. I really don't want the program. Is there a way to uninstall the program and still use GB.
Thanks so much,
Jared

  • Garageband won't open after downloading Lion, what should I do?

I downloaded Lion from the app store, now my garageband won't open. Also I use Pro tools 8.4 and that won't work either!
I would appreciate any help or advice.

If it is the third party apps crashing - try downloading another app - any free app is fine. See if that resets the other apps.

  • Garageband won't open at all!

Ok so I think since I upgraded to Leopard, my garageband won't open. It just says its "initializing" and the logo bounces in the dock for about 2 minutes or so... then it says "the program quit unexpectedly after it was relaunched"
I'm not sure what the problem is. I tried to take garageband06 from a friend, but that won't work for me either.
Can anyone help me?? I have sessions booked in my studio and I use garageband for some of it...

I just figured out this problem and thought I would provide the exact location of the problem file. Celemony's Melodyne Uno running (or not running for that matter) in Leopard was the problem for me.
Go to: Macintosh HD/Library/Applications Support and remove MelodyneUnoRewireDevice (which is an alias).
Then go to: Macintosh HD/Library/Applications Support/Propellerhead Software/ReWire/ and remove both of the Melodyne components there. You don't need to remove the other ReWire components.
You may also need to go to: Home/Library/Preferences and remove MelodyneUno Preferences.
Note: you probably won't have to remove the Uno application from the applications folder if you want to wait for an update.

  • GarageBand won't open in 10.6.6

GarageBand won't open after upgrade to 10.6.6 despite installing combo update and so forth. Tried locating com.apple.garage.plist in Library/Preferences but cannot find it.
Please help, I just keep getting the 'initializing' bar and I have to force quit. And now for some reason a CoreMIDI framework folder keeps appearing in my dock.
I spent a bloody fortune on ProTools and have had to accept that it's money down the drain after Snow Leopard upgrade but if GarageBand is screwed to then watch out below, Mac coming through window....

First if you run Pro Tools never update your OS until Avid says it's ok. I'm guessing that something pro tools may have done to a library or driver effected Garageband and the update broke pro tools and pro tools took garageband with it.
May be a good idea to get the newest version of garageband.

  • HELP! I upgraded my macbook pro to leopard and garageband won't open!

    To anyone who can help!
I've just upgraded my MacBook Pro 15 Inch to Leopard and now my GarageBand won't open up! What's more, my MacBook Pro now seems slower. Can anyone help me to get this fixed? I'm open to all suggestions!

Please help!  This is very important, as I work with music.

    Hi Duckman,
I've asked for this thread to be moved to iLife > GarageBand. Hopefully you'll get a better response there here than this forum which is GarageBand for iOS.

  • Garageband won't open at all now -- plus USB turntable issues

Applemeisters: I haven't used GarageBand in a couple of months. Now it won't open at all. The icon flickers for a couple of seconds on the dock and then disappears. I have a 10.2.8 operating system and about 3 GBs of hard disc space (I know, the usual remedy is to clear up more space, but I've had much less space and it's worked then).
Meanwhile, I bought an Ion turntable months ago and have tried repeatedly to record lps -- only to have very distorted sound, much worse than the regular stereo downstairs. Is the Ion supposed to be a plug and play with a Mac when you plug it directly into a USB port in your G4 tower? The Audacity software that is supposed to turn the lp into CD isn't doing its job apparently because the USB turntable sounds fine downstairs when I plug it into the console and speakers that play my o9dl fashinoned regular stereo.
Any help you can provide, I will appreciate. Thanks.

The problems are caused by third party input managers/enhancers that have not yet been updated by their developers to comply with the standards used by Safari 3.2.1. and/or Safari 4.
    In your case these are:
    x7e3000 - 0x7e3fff com.aladdinsys.mmenabler 7.1.0 (99) /Library/InputManagers/MagicMenuEnabler/MagicMenuEnabler.bundle/Contents/MacOS/ MagicMenuEnabler
    0x7e7000 - 0x7e7fff com.yazsoft.SDEnhancer ??? (1.0) /Users/peterdignam/Library/InputManagers/SpeedDownload Enhancer/SpeedDownloadEnhancer.bundle/Contents/MacOS/SpeedDownloadEnhancer
    0x254a000 - 0x254dfff com.yazsoft.SDSafariBundle ??? (1.0) /Users/peterdignam/Library/InputManagers/SpeedDownload Enhancer/SpeedDownloadEnhancer.bundle/Contents/Resources/SDSafariBundle.bundle/ Contents/MacOS/SDSafariBundle
You fill find them in one or either of these folders:
    Home/Library/Input Managers
    Hard Disk/library/Input Managers
    Hard Disk/Library/Application Support
although the exact location is indicated in your crash report as quoted above - look under 'Binary Images'.
Close Safari and delete them, then restart Safari and it should be working normally.
Check with the developers of the plug-ins in question for updates that are Safari 4 compliant.

  • GarageBand won't open some songs I've made

I can't some songs that I have made on the GarageBand app. They have the top right corner folded back and a green arrow pointing down. I have tried to open them but they turn clear, and won't open.
    HELP!

This means that you are trying to open an online PDF in a browser that doesn't use the Adobe Reader plugin; see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/pdf-browser-plugin-configuration.html
    Either:
download the PDF to your local disk and open it from there
use a browser that uses the Adobe Reader plugin
configure your browser to use the Adobe Reader plugin

  • Garageband won't open, keeps downloading

I purchased the GArageBand app from the app store for my MacBook Pro, and it downloads, then it downloads add-ons, but won't open! It keeps starting the download over again once the add-on downloads finish and I click the icon in my dock to open the program!

First if you run Pro Tools never update your OS until Avid says it's ok. I'm guessing that something pro tools may have done to a library or driver effected Garageband and the update broke pro tools and pro tools took garageband with it.

  • Garageband won't open....??? HELP!!

I just used Garageband last night...and now it won't open for some reason. The only thing I can think of is that I deleted my Digidesign folder from my Applications folder because it wasn't working with my MBox. That shouldn't affect Grageband though, right?
When I try to open it, the App icon just continually bounces in my dock...
    PLEASE HELP!!

Looking at your crash report, I see that the crash occurs with the Melodyne rewire plug-in. If I remember correctly, the Melodyne rewire plug-in is not compatible with Mountain Lion. Check with the Melodyne webpage, if there is a software update available for Mt. Lion and install it. If not, remove the
"/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/Melodyne.component/" from your System Library to the Desktop and restart your system. See, if you can launch GarageBand now. In that case you will have to use the stand-alone version of Melodyne and not the rewire version.

  • After upgrading GarageBand won t open ?

After I upgraded GarageBand, now it won t open ?

Are you also using GarageBand on the iPad?
Launch "Settings" on the iPad, then in Settings scroll down all the way to the applications, and click GarageBand. Then you should see the "Reset" switch. Switch it to "ON".

  • Garageband Won't Open, Failed Update

Lost my net connection during update of Garageband and now Garageband won't load and now brings up "Unable to Download Application" "Garageband could not be downloaded at this time. I can't even figure out how to reset Garageband and I don't want to lose the songs I've recorded in the app either. Thanks!

I'm sorry, but to get Garageband and iMovie back, you would have to lose all your data. Unless you have the data on an Apple Computer, you would lose your data. To get Garageband back, you would first have to delete it from your iPad. Then, sync with your computer. Then, download Garageband on the iTunes App Store on your computer (not your iPad). Then, just sync again to put Garageband on your iPad.

  • Garageband won't open new project

My Garageband fails to open up a new project, keeps coming up with a message saying 'file not found'
    any ideas?
I'm using Mac OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.4 on 13inch Macbook Pro
    Cheers,

up with a message saying 'file not found'
What exactly is the full error message? And when exactly does it occur? What is your GarageBAnd version - are you using the current GarageBand '11 or an earlier version?
If the error message is occuring when you are using the opening panel and selected a template - Piano, Electric Guitar, etc., then the problem might be that the templates are not properly installed- Check your System Library:
Are all templates installed and readable in in the folder
         /Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Templates/Projects
    or are they missing?

  • Garageband won't open after installing and uninstalling Protools LE

I can't get garageband to open after uninstalling protools LE m-box software.
It won't get past initialize process. Is it possible to reinstall garageband over itself and not loose songs already recorded?

    Turtle Dude wrote:
I am having the same exact problem...after I upgraded to Leopard I had to reinstall Pro Tools LE which worked fine after I did so...but Garage Band didn't...it would be greatly appreciated it anyone could help...
Did the Pro Tools installation install Digidesign's CoreAudio Drivers? Sometimes they can be a problem and interfere with Apple's.

  • GarageBand won't open - missing Finale file?

Hi, GarageBand 1.0.1(9) won't start any more. This error message appears:
    Finale GPO
WARNING: could not open content file!
It should be located at Mac HD:Applications:Finale GPO Library:Finale_GPO.nks
Would you like to select a different directory now?
    (yes/no)
    if you click no, the message comes up again;
if yes, whatever location you select, it 'finds no suitable content' & the error message comes back.
I've reinstalled applications from my original Powerbook Restore cds, with no effect.
Any ideas how I can get/reinstall Finale GPO Library:Finale_GPO.nks, if I need it?
    thanks.
p.s. some time ago I installed a Finale demo (that's a separate third-party music application.) It didn't work so I trashed it. Evidently that may have caused this problem with Garage Band (?)

the MIDI data is not something you can get at, it's enclded into the projectData file.
here is one Hail Mary idea (And i'm going to preface this for anyone reading this later: *_+Don't Do This!+_*): create a new project and replace the metadata.plist in the broken file with the one from the new file.
i really doubt that'll do anything, it's far more likely that it's the projectData file that is broken, but you have nothing to lose.
after that, all you can do is drop the audio files into a new project's timeline and begin editing them again.
