Garageband won't record my voice or anything.

A couple of months ago or may i say nearly a year, i tried out garageband to record my voice. Back then, I was a newbie to this whole apple MAC thing and applications like garageband. So i only would use it to record my voice and i also could change the vocal effects. It worked fine.  Then one day, i opened garageband and wanted to record me singing but it didn't work. There's a constant sound of a beat while i record and listen to it after recording. Also, the bar goes totally flatline when i record and listen. The ziz-zag line doesn't come up in the bar. I didn't know what was wrong, i tried to make it work but obviously that didn't happen. So, i left it like that and i didn't bother using it. Though, i want to start using it again for my singing but it still doesn't work.
I would really appreciate some help.

Assuming you want to use the internal mic - make sure it is selected as the audio input in GB's preferences.

  • GarageBand doesn't record my voice properly. It plays it as if it had a helium effect.

I have been asked to submit a voice recording to a regional company for education materials and I need an answer quickly, please.
I recorded a sample on garageband and choice: real instrument, vocals, female basic to record my voice sample.
It's been a long time since I've last used GarageBand and I did manage to get a normal sound from it. But now, I can't.
It makes my voice sound like I breathed in helium. And I have no idea how to get rid of the effect. Can you please help me asap? Thanks.

Have you checked the setting of the instrument, if you have an effect set?
Select your vocal track, open the "Info" panel, and click the "edit" tab. Is there a distortion effect set, like "Vocal Transformer"? Then disable it by clicking the blue button.
Check the same for the master track.  (Track menu > Show Master Track)

  • GarageBand won't record. Built-in microphone used to work, but not anymore-

I have an iBook G4, Mac OS X 10.4.10. My GarageBand is Version 2.0.2
I have built-in microphone that used to work great in GarageBand, but now is showing no input. When I try to record it isn't hearing anything.
Under GarageBand Preferences it says 0 MIDI input(s) detected.
Under System Preferences > Sound > Input "Internal Microphone; Built-In" is selected; but next to "Input Level:" none of the ovals are filled. Hope this makes sense.
Please help if you can. Thanks!

Interesting, this could be an issue with the firewall on the router blocking the scanning ports from being accessed. I do wan to start by performing a complete uninstallation and reinstallation though my method, so we can establish a clear baseline on troubleshooting.
First if you use a USB cord, make sure to remove it. Do not plug it back in until the software directs you to. Then go through the Devices and Printers, Programs and Features and Device Manager folders and insure that all copies, files, and programs related to the printer are removed. Then as directed, restart the computer.
In the START menu and click Run type "%temp%" and press ENTER. Here I want you to press Ctrl+A and hit DELETE. Some of the files will not allow you to delete them, skip those files and delete the majority that allows it.
Then follow this link to download the full feature software and drivers for the printer:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=al-109010-2&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en...
Install that and let me know the result!
Additionally, if you can connect the printer directly though the router with an Ethernet cord and install the printer through that method, I might be easily able to determine if there is or isn't a firewall on the router.
    Have a great day!

  • Bought Yeti Pro/Garageband won't record stereo proporly.

    Hey guys,
im having a problem. It is either a problem with garageband, or the yeti pro.
when i set my yeti pro to stereo, i can hear both sides well but when i record it into garageband, the left channel is a lot weaker than the right...
im quite confused as to why this is happening.
    anybody can help? much appreciated.

Crashes every time I hit record.
Do you mean it is literally "crashing" or that it is issuing a modal warning stating that no data is being received?

  • Can you record your voice in logic pro 9 just as simple as garageband or do you need a plug-in?

can you record your voice in logic pro 9 just as simple as garageband or do you need a plug-in or interface?

Alas, poor Logic, I knew him well.
Recording wise, It will be much the same as Garageband but you will need to read manuals as Logic doesn't set things up for you. You must choose input and output devices, create the correct tracks. Logic was designed for professional use so it expects users to be somewhat familiar with recording/editing techniques, in other words, won't hold your hand or be nearly as easy to use.

  • I use Garageband 09 to record voice overs via podcasting, female narrator noisy, but keep getting an intermittent clicking sound. It's not the metronome. I have a good quality external USB mic plugged in. Any ideas?

I use GarageBand 09 to record voice overs via the Podcasting then Female Narrator Noisy utility. I have a good quality external mic plugged in. I keep getting an intermittent clicking sound on the audio track. It's not the metronome as that is turned off. I have to edit out the clicking after recording. I can see the spikes on the waveline. Any ideas how I can prevent this happening?

Hi again and thanks so much for replying.
The 'mic jack' on the old mic is both wide and large, measuring about an inch and a quarter from the base (where it comes out of the black encasing) to the edge of the tip (sort of cone shaped). As I can't plug this in directly to any port in the back of the Mac, I thought it might be possible to to buy some sort of adapter so that I could plug in the jack at one end, with a USB connector at the other end to go straight into the Mac. But I see from your comment that you are suggesting a smaller jack itself (i.e., large size jack to small size jack and then plug in to the small round port, instead of jack to USB port)?
At the Mac shop I bought a USB adapter to connect up a second monitor (screen). I've just dug out the package and it's called a mini display port to VGA adapter. But back to the mic issue, I don't want to use the old mic really, I'm just trying to eliminate whether or not my usual mic, or its USB cable, is at fault and causing the clicking.
I looked on Amazon for a suitable adapter but there was mention of these little gadgets having a sound card. As the Mac obviously has its own internal sound card, I couldn't see the point of another (exernal) one, unless it was actually required to convert the sound from input to output (playback) or something. One review said sound quality was lost but the person had a problem with his speakers, not a ticking sound while playing back recordings - which is obviously my problem.
I do have a headset that I used to use for Skype. It has a pink and a green jack. I could plug one into the "headphones symbol' port and try recording again with Garageband. At least the jack is the right size. Again, this is just for the purpose of eliminating whether my good mic on a stand with the anti-popping sheild is at fault.
While my Mac does have both inbuilt speakers (I don't need external ones) and an inbuilt microphone, the latter is not of a high enough quality for voice overs, hence buying an external mic etc. But whatever is causing the clicking or ticking is obviously affecting the quality of my recordings. As you can imagine, it is very time-consuming to edit out the ticking spikes and if the noise appears during speech, you can't edit it out at all.
Please keep the suggestions coming. I am determined to get to the bottom of this for my sake and everyone else who is suffering from the same problem!

  • I'm using GarageBand for voiceover and my voice is only recording in one track. How do I get it in stereo?

I'm using a Bluebird mic hooked up to speakers and MAudio Fast Track interface.  I went to GarageBand preferences and set up the recording for MAudio and stereo but it's still recording in mono.  Any suggestions?

  • Why won't my iMovie record my voice over? I have a previous voice track that I recorded yesterday that worked, but today it won't.

Why won't my iMovie record my voice over? I have a previous voice track that I recorded yesterday that worked, but today it won't. I tap the necessary place each time, and tap it again to stop recording...has anyone ever had that problem before?

    Hi
    Will You try
    A. Do this Voice over in a brand new Project
    and if this doesn't work
    B. trash iMovie pref and try again
I have a very faint memory of problem when adding two or more voice over to one project - but it can all be just a bad dream. (It's a function I never use - I use a miniDV Camera or other recorder to do my narrative - then import this as .aiff audio and use this in my movies as any other audio without any problems - so it's a totally different way to handle audio in all)

  • Recording my voice on GarageBand w/o an external mic

On my old (dead) iBook I could record my voice in Garage Band just by speaking at my computer. No such luck with my new iMac. Any suggestions? Is it possible without an external mic?

  • Garageband only recording my voice in high tempo

How's it going? Having a bit of some trouble here while trying to record a track using my logitech usb headset.
Everytime I record using this device, the recording ends up being really fast, so I guess in high tempo. I get the chipmunk basically, but when I record using the mac's built in mic I sound completely normal. I did not mess with any settings. My usb mic works for every other program on the mac so I don't think its the hardware. Is there something I'm doing wrong or something I can check? I'd really like to not record my voice using the built in mic.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Open the Audio/Midi Utility (in your Utilities folder) and make sure the Logitech's sample rate is set to 44.1 kHz.

  • How long I can record a voice memo in my iphone 5s, how long I can record a voice memo in my iphone 5s

how long I can record a voice memo in my iphone 5s, how long I can record a voice memo in my iphone 5s

Thanks Caramby.  I actually found another work-around
Here's how to copy the voice memo to your laptop (and then email it if you need to):
With iTunes open on the Voice Memo folder of your device (an iPhone 4s in my case), simply drag the required file from iTunes and onto the desktop of your pc/laptop.  It won't remove the file from your device but simply make a copy.   Then you can play the file from your pc/laptop (through Quicktime) as the file is in AAC format.  You can also attach the file to an email for sending.
    Hope this helps someone else.

You transfer the purchases to the computer you use to sync the iPhone.  You can use a thumb drive or an external HD, etc.  Read this: iTunes for Mac - How to copy purchases between computers:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1373
