Garbage Display

Hi everyone!
Instead of Japanese Characters, a series of question marks[?] were displayed on my Oracle Developer.
I had setup up the NLS_LANG of the ORACLE and ORACLE1 in ORACLE_HOMES in registry to JAPANESE_JAPAN.JA16SJIS but it still display question marks. The NLS_LANG setup in the server that I am connection to is the same JAPANESE_JAPAN.JA16SJIS.
What else did I miss?
Please help.
Regards,

Not really my field, but you presumably need to configure java to display Japanese characters.

  • Garbage displayed while running the report in browser using report server

    We are facing problem in displaying the Arabic text from the Report Server.
    We have Digital Server running Tru64 4.0f unix. We have two similiar servers, both are
    clustered. We have Report Server(6i) running in one machine and the Database(8.1.7) running
    in the other.
    When we tried the reports having only English text it is working fine. We need Arabic text
    also in the report. The Arabic text are coming as ?????? . We tried setting the NLS_LANG
    environment to AMERICAN_AMERICA.AR8MSWIN1256 and changed the Tk2Motif.rgb to take this
    character set. Then we get the error REP 1352 - The font is not supported by the NLS_LANG.
    Then we tried the various NLS_LANG environment AMERICAN_AMERICA.AR8ISO8859P6, ARABIC_SAUDI
    ARABIA.AR8MSWIN1256 and ARABIC_SAUDI ARABIA.AR8ISO8859P6, in all the cases the report is
    just hanging. If We unset the NLS_LANG and the Tk2Motif.rgb the english part of the reports
    are coming alright, still the arabic is coming ??????.

  • Satellite P55t-B5340 Display Flashes When Unplugged

    I bought Satellite P55t-B5340 ultra 4K laptop from Costco several days ago. It is an overall decent laptop except that under some circumstances the display flashes by rapidly switching between the desktop and a screen-full array of repeating small graphic icons. The flash always happens when the power cable is unplugged even when the battery is fully charged. It does so without failing when the power cable is unplugged right after the laptop has been powered on and used for a while. Otherwise, the flash happens randomly when the power cable is unplugged. My first concern is whether this is an inherent problem of the Toshiba 4K display, given that this was the very first 4K laptop and the technology was still new. If it is, I would have to consider a different laptop as I won't be able to afford the disruption caused by an unstable computer. Please let me know if you have a simiar experience, especially if you are one of the early adopters since the laptop came out in April. Any advice on how to fix it or whether I should give it up altogether is very much appreciated.

    I also see this issue on the same model purchased at Costco last December.  More specifically:Only occurs when running on batteriesOnly occurs at full resolution 3840x2160Only happens when you stop moving the cursor for more than 1/4 second.Screen displays correctly as soon as you move the cursor.  As long as the cursor is moving the display is correct.  The garbage display is an undiscernible pattern repeated across the screen 15x and down the screen 68x. The only solutions I have figured out it never run it except on batteries in full resolution.  When running it on batteries chnage to lower resolution. Very annoying problem.

  • Forms and reports server characterset aix

    My database is in UTF8 mode and is displaying all characters correctly.
    However when I run a report using the forms and reports server it uses Western European Character Set.
    I have tried re-installing forms and reports server in order to fix this characterset issue, however I am not prompted for a characterset at installation time, so the forms and reports server is still set to the Western European Character Set, thus, some characters are not being displayed (inverse ?).
    I have tried specifying UTF8 for NLS_LANG in reports.sh but I only get garbage displayed.
    Can someone point me in the right direction please

    This issue has now been resolved. Changing the NLS_LANG setting in reports.sh to POLISH_POLAND.UTF8 was correct. The issue then was that greek symbols were displayed. This was a font issue and was resolved by amending a file
    $ORACLE_HOME/guicommon/tk/admin/AFM/fontname (where fontname is the characterset you are using,eg in my case Courier ).
    the Change was to amend the line:
    EncodingSchemeProperty AdobeStandardEncoding
    to read
    EncodingSchemeProperty FontSpecific
    This fixed the problem for me , but Oracle also advise to amend the file $ORACLE_HOME/guicommon/tk/admin/Tk2Motif.rgb:
    eg change the below line from:
    !Tk2Motif*fontMapCs: iso8859-2=EE8ISO8859P2
    to:
    Tk2Motif*fontMapCs: iso8859-2=UTF8 (or whatever charcterset you are using).
    Note that the exclamation mark has been removed.

  • USB to (DB9) Serial Adapter and Minicom - help needed

    I'm having problems with my Netgear DM111P ethernet modem.
    I bought it off ebay and it was 'bricked' on arrival .
    All of the LEDs are flashing okay except for a solid red one which should be solid green.
    I would like to reflash the firmware.  However, I've never done this before and I'm learning as I go.
    I've only just started the process and so far it hasn't been that successful.
    Basically, I don't know what to do.
    Since my IBM Thinkpad T40 doesn't have a serial port, I bought a USB to Serial adapter.
    When I plug it into a spare USB port, dmesg reports:
    usb 2-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2
    usb 2-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
    usbcore: registered new interface driver usbserial
    drivers/usb/serial/usb-serial.c: USB Serial support registered for generic
    usbcore: registered new interface driver usbserial_generic
    drivers/usb/serial/usb-serial.c: USB Serial Driver core
    drivers/usb/serial/usb-serial.c: USB Serial support registered for pl2303
    pl2303 2-2:1.0: pl2303 converter detected
    usb 2-2: pl2303 converter now attached to ttyUSB0
    usbcore: registered new interface driver pl2303
    drivers/usb/serial/pl2303.c: Prolific PL2303 USB to serial adaptor driver
    and lsmod shows the pl2303 kernel module has loaded:
    n00b ~ $ lsmod
    Module Size Used by
    pl2303 19076 0
    usbserial 30696 1 pl2303
    So, if I understand things correctly, the USB to Serial adapter has been recognised by the kernel and the driver loaded.  dmesg also reports:
    n00b ~ $ dmesg | grep tty
    console [tty0] enabled
    00:0a: ttyS0 at I/O 0x3f8 (irq = 4) is a NS16550A
    usb 2-2: pl2303 converter now attached to ttyUSB0
    which suggests I should configure minicom (# minicom -s) with /dev/ttyUSB0 rather than /dev/ttyS0.  However - and this is where I'm out of my depth with minicom - when I invoke minicom it comes up with a dialog saying "Initializing Modem".  I don't want to use a modem.  I want to see what the CFE bootloader of my DM111P is outputing so that I can see what's wrong with it.
    Can anyone help me out with this please?  I've never done any serial port work before.

    Thanks for the reply Rasika but I already tried that cable. Checked it out with an Ohm meter, cable was pinned correctly. It worked on a 4402 controller but not the 2006. I did try all kinds of serial settings and usually you get some garbage displayed if the baud rate, parity, stop bits, etc... are wrong but this had nothing displayed. I suppose it's possible that both 2006 controllers are bad but the odds are extremely small hence I still suspect the cable.  Do you know of an actual Cisco document that shows the console cable pin-out for the 2006? If I had an actual Cisco document and not a user supplied document and that cable didn't work, then I guess there recycling material. Any other idea's or thoughts? Thanks!

  • Dreamweaver FTP client corrupts downloaded files

    Hello,
    I am trying to edit a pre-existing website using Dreamweaver. When I download a local copy of certain files using the Get function in the Files menu, the local copy I get has a bunch of garbage inserted into it. The garbage displays on the page as non-standard characters (mostly Chinese or some such). The copy on the server is fine: The site itself displays properly in the browser, and when I use the browser to view the source of the server's copy, it is all fine and problem-free. Infact, if I simply copy and paste that source code and save it in my local copy of the file, the file works fine. I'd rather not have to do this every time I want a fresh copy of a file from the server, though, so I was wondering if someone could tell me what is corrupting the files when I download them using the Get function.
    Thank you,
    -Nick

    Thanks guys.
    I downloaded FileZilla. In FileZilla, the problem appears if I download in ASCII, and is fixed when I download in binary. Selecting binary or ASCII is very straightforward in FileZilla.
    However, I cannot get the problem to go away in Dreamweaver. I have edited FTPExtensionsMap.txt to dowload html in binary as described, but that doesn't seem to have any effect in Dreamweaver.
    I was wondering if there is anything else I have to do to ensure Dreamweaver transfers in binary, or if anyone has any further suggestions.
    Thank you,
    -Nick

  • [PROBLEM] Keyboard layout unexpected behaviour problem Xfce

    Dear Everyone,
    I am rather new to arch linux. I have recently (about a week ago) installed archlinux with xorg and xfce (booted by slim), and reading the wiki I managed to set up a fully working computer. But there is a slight problem that continues bugging me about keyboard layouts, and although I have found a way to make the keyboard layout switching with alt+shift work I think that I did it in a nonstandard way and some programs still exhibit unusual (and I think unintended) behaviour.
    Here goes:
    I use a notebook
    My xorg uses hotplugging that seems to be working (hal and dbus installed and running at bootup, detects external usb mouse, I have no xorg.conf file). When I setup my keyboard I put the 10-keymap.fdi from the /usr/share/... dir into /etc/hal/fdi/policy/10-keymap.fdi and it contains (as instructed by the wiki):
    <merge key="input.xkb.layout" type="string">us,ru</merge>
    <merge key="input.xkb.variant" type="string" />
    <merge key="input.xkb.options" type="string">grp:alt_shift</merge>
    And here is the problem:
    After editig this file I restarted hal using
    #/etc/rc.d/hal stop
    #/etc/rc.d/hal start
    and keyboard switching with alt+shift started working.
    Then I went to the xfce keyboard settings to the layout tab and my setup was:
    keyboard model -> evdev-managed keyboard
    keyboard layout -> us
    so the russian layout did not appear (also adding the russian layout through this menu before editing the .fdi file was useless (it was the first thing I tried before reading the wiki and writing config files for hal))
    I started the keyboard layout switcher applet for xfce and it also displayed only the us flag and had only us as the available layout, and even switching to russian layout using alt+shift had no effect on the displayed flag.
    What I decided to do then was to restart my system.
    Everything restarted without error (hal and stuff started etc..) but it was no longer possible to switch keyboard layouts using alt+shift.
    The xfce keyboard settings now displayed us and ru as available layouts but switch between them using the mouse in the settings menu had no effect whatsoever. Also the layout switcher displayed that both layouts were available but for the russian keyboard the variant field displayed a lot of garbage (I will post screenshot soon). Switching to the russian layout through any key sequence defined in the applet was useless. Trying to switch it with the mouse by selecting the flag didn't do anything either.
    The only way I discovered to make the alt+shift keys work is by manually restarting hal through
    #/etc/rc.d/hal stop
    #/etc/rc.d/hal start
    which is very strange since I have not changed any settings file.
    Then again every time I restarted my comuter the ability to switch layouts was lost until manually restarting hal.
    The only  solution I found was going to the xfce keyboard settings and clicking the  "Use system defaults []"
    After restarting the system alt+shift switching began to work fine but the keyboard applet didn't  work anyway.
    As a consequence I think that all this is a big mess since I suppose that what I described is not the expected behaviour. The other effect of this is that only user with root priviledges could possibly add a new layout to the system (editing the /etc/hal/policy/10-keymap.fdi file) while the idea was that the gui tools of the DM (xfce in my case) permitted the user to change layouts on his/her own. Then again the keyboard layour applet never worked so it is impossible to have an indicator of the current layout. Where do you think should I write about this. I think this qualifies as a bug although I do not know whose fault is it: is it xfce, Xorg, hal or others?  And having to restart hal maunally without having changed any config files is rather strange. The garbage displayed by the applet is also suspicious.
    Any advice to where to report this and how to fix everything would be great.
    P.S. Throughout all these tries to make things work the setxkbmap command from the cli never had any effect.

    hmm... i have a similar problem:
    i want two layouts: GB(english) and ES(spanish). I have them defined in /etc/hal/fdi/policy/10-keymap.fdi :
    <merge key="input.xkb.layout" type="string">gb,es</merge>
    and i can actually switch between them. the issue is that i have an extra, unwanted layout. i have to press once in order to change from GB to ES, then if i want to switch back to GB, i have to switch twice. There is a third layout i did not configured.
    Example of the layouts:
    GB: abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz
    ES: abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz    and i can write accents and everything for spanish:  ñÑáéíóú, etc.
    unkown third layout: æ"¢ðeđŋħ→jĸłµnøþ@¶ßŧ↓"ł»←«
    łħæŧ →ß ŧħ→ß???
    sorry, i mean:
    what is this???
    any help would be appreciated.

  • PDF displays fine, but prints garbage

    I'm stumped on this one...  I've been using MacOS X since the Public Beta came out in 2000, and I've never run into anything like this when working with PDF files.
    My Natural Gas provider - Atmos Energy - allows me to download PDF copies of old statements from their website.  The PDF downloads as expected, opens in Preview without any issues, and displays the statement perfectly.
    Then I print the PDF to my Lexmark X546dtn color laser.  It prints out, but all of the account-specific text has been replaced with garbled ASCII characters.  The overall structure of the statement prints correctly (lines, shapes, logos, etc) as does the generic text that they include as information for every customer (i.e. Call us immediately if you smell gas).  But everything else is complete garbage.
    A couple of examples... (Visible on Screen -> What's Printed Instead):
    PREVIOUS BALANCE -> KQSSQGT)QG<RP:N*QRGI
    05/10/13 -> 3<C=3C=D
    PAST DUE AFTER -> MN3*)LO!)N<*!P
    When I Select All (text) in the PDF in Preview, it copies / pastes the correct strings into a text editor.  When I choose "Export to PDF" the file it creates, however, has the same garbled text that shows up when I print it on my Lexmark.
    I've submitted a support request to Atmos, but don't have very high expectations that they'll be able to offer any help.  I'm really not sure what's going on here, any ideas?
    In case it helps, the "PDF Producer" is listed as "StreamServe Communication Server 5.5.0 GA Build 1684".
    Thanks!
    -Mason

    A bit more info before I move on to more productive endeavors this evening...
    I fired up Windows XP in VMware to see if Adobe Reader under Windows XP would be able to handle the file correctly.  Nope, but at least it gives an error message that may point to the problem.  Adobe Reader says "Cannot find or create the font 'WFQXRK+AA0101+Verdana-Bold'.  Some characters may not display or print correctly."  I'm guessing the dynamically generated document is being created with an invalid font name (server-side bug).  Preview probably auto-substitutes a standard font for displaying the PDF onscreen, but when the PDF is sent to the printer it's probably sent as a native PDF, invalid font-name and all.

  • JFileChooser Displays Garbage Icons for Files in 1.4.2-02

    Since switching from 1.3.1 to 1.4.2-02 I no longer get meaningful icons displayed beside file names by JFileChooser. What it is displaying do not look like anything meaningful. I suspect it is just grabbing some random chunk of memory and interpreting it as an icon. In 1.3.1 I got a folder icon for directories and a dog-eared piece of paper for files. I have not changed any of the code here, except to fix a bug where I was passing an invalid object (not a Component) to showOpenDialog, and the problem occurs both before and after that change. I appreciate that I can create a FileView to display whatever icons I want, but I do not understand why the default is garbage.
         JFileChooser chooser;
         String     directory     = parent.getProperty("directory", "");
         if (directory != "")
         chooser = new JFileChooser(directory);
         else
         chooser = new JFileChooser();
         // select only Text and Excel files, but permit multiples to be chosen
         chooser.addChoosableFileFilter(new TxtFileFilter());
         chooser.setFileFilter(new XlsFileFilter());
         chooser.setMultiSelectionEnabled(true);
         // display the dialog and wait for a response
         int option = chooser.showOpenDialog(desk);

    I have since determined that the problem is in FileSystemView.getSystemIcon, which returns a garbage icon on my system.

  • Transactions are displayed as Garbage values in TH language

    Hi All,
    Please help with my below problem.
    Users when loggin in to Th language are seing garbage values against Transaction names in Menu.
    I tried to check the role which is giving this acess in TH language and it gave the below message when i  displayed in PFCG.
    "Text Does not Exist in TH Language.Text for this role Exists in Language EN.User Transaction SE63 for translation".
    I checked that description for some transactions is displayed correctly in TH. But some others are not displayed correctly.
    Thanks,

    Not every single piece of text is translated in SAP... that why when you install a new language you choose a language for supplementation so when you find a piece of text that is not translated automatically is shown in the supplementary language.
    Answer use language supplementation in SMLT
    Regards
    Juan

  • Weird problems with motion 3 displaying pink lines and other garbage

    I am using Motion3 to create HD graphics. With each of my projects I start with motion everything is fine until I build about 4 different layers or add any type of motion or filters.
    It seems as my projects get more complex my viewer window or canvas starts displaying weird things. Pink lines, white and black garbage, nasty thin lines, various other junk. Sometimes the image is completely gone.
    I have had some luck retrieving it by turning off motion blur or turning of field rendering and turning it back on. This fix only works sometimes.
    Other times my video displays fine until I render out and then the garbage happens.
    Anyone come across this?
    I am currently using a an ati radeon 9600 video card and it's running two monitors on dvi and one vga. I have ordered an nvidia 7800 gs in hopes it will fix this problem and ease the pain of render times.
    I have been using motion 2 for a while and never had this issue. I was hoping to milk this system for a while before having to upgrade.
    Any thoughts or suggestions?

    I think you are pushing that card to it's limit with HD and splitting the VRAM across two monitors. I would bet a new card will clear things up.
