Garbled and frozen screen

My screen gets garbled and the web windows repeat and freeze. In order to continue I have to force quit and restart the computer.
Here is a screenshot of the moment. Can anyone help be regarding to solve the issue? What can the problem be? Thank you!

Thank you for answering. The laptop is 3 years old . I just checked the graphics card and it is :
Intel HD graphics , type: GPU . 1.9.21 version.
288 MB
Color LCD:
  Resolution:          1440 x 900
  Pixel Depth:          32-Bit Color (ARGB8888)
Dunno if this info is enough to understand the quality of the graphic card. But this computer is only used to web surfing. So I was scared that some kimd of virus might've entered. But if the problem is only pure cleaning, I should then take it to a professional to clean, I suppose?

  • Screeching noise and frozen screen!

Hi, I have a 15" 1.5 Ghz aluminum powerbook that I've had since Fall 2004. It has worked fine for me up until a couple weeks ago. At one point it wouldn't boot up and I would just get a question mark after the beginning apple screen, but that fixed itself after I ran FSCK and repaired the hard drive partition. The problem is that since then every week or so the computer will start emitting a screeching noise (lasting for about 1 second in about 3 second intervals) and then the display will be frozen. As in, I can still see all the applications and windows that were running on the screen at the time it froze, but I can't move the mouse and nothing responds to typing commands either. The noise seems to omit from the right side of the powerbook, almost as if its coming from the location right near the CD drive input / the bottom right part of the keyboard. If I close the powerbook at that point the light on the apple goes off and the screen goes dark but the white light on the front doesn't go on like it should and the noise continues to screech and the same intervals as before.
This has happened on 3 or 4 separate occasions now and I have managed to fix every time by restarting and booting in single user mode or running FSCK and then restarting again to where it powered up but its starting to happen more frequently now. I'm fairly certain it's not a hard drive issue because the FSCK says that the hard disk checks out fine every time. Could it be a ram issue or something... do i have to reset pram? Any help would be appreciated.
To me it sounds like a part of my computer might be dying but what I can't figure out.

    Thanks to that Tuttle guy:
Format the external as Mac OS Extended.
Select the drive in Disk Utility (the uppermost icon related to the drive), then click the Erase button in the upper middle of the DU window. In the new pane, next to Volume Format, choose to format the drive as Mac OS Extended. You don't need to choose the option to journal the volume at this time.
When creating an initial clone, it's always safe practice to write zeros to the target drive. Click on the Security Options button, choose to write zeros to the drive and click Okay. Then click Erase. Writing zeros may take a couple of hours to do on a 300GB drive, but you just need to do it this once. Afterward, just clicking the Erase button will be sufficient unless bad blocks or similar problems develop in the future. Give the new volume a name that is distinct from the name of your PB's volume (i.e. not Macintosh HD1).
Once the drive is erased and formatted, repair permissions on the source drive, launch SuperDuper! or CCC, set the Source and Target volumes and clone.
One note: In CCC, make sure that the only option you select in CCC's preferences is "Make Bootable." If you use SuperDuper!, you don't have to worry about that (though it will ask you if you are sure that you want to erase the target volume. Choose Yes.)
When the clone is finished, select the new volume in System Preferences > Startup Disk and click Restart. When you've booted into the clone, immediately open System Preferences > Desktop & Screensaver and change the desktop picture so you know which volume you're booted from just by looking. Next, open Disk Utility and repair permissions on the cloned volume. After this, you can click on the Enable Journaling button in the Disk Utility toolbar at the top of the window.
After this, shut down your computer. After two minutes, start up your computer, pressing the Option key immediately after the startup chime. This will take you to the Startup Manager screen where you will choose the cloned volume to start from in order to test whether or not it is truly bootable. If it boots fine, go through it and test some apps to see if everything is in order. If all is well, choose the PB's drive in System Preferences > Startup Disk and restart. When you restart, remember to reselect the PB as the startup volume in System Pref's > Startup Disk as well.

  • G62 blank Screen and Frozen Screen

I don't know a lot about this stuff so I shall say what I see.
My HP G62 laptop will not start up, it just has the power light on and caps lock button flashing.
I have followed other steps I have read online, started it up with the power cable and not the battery. I get past putting my password in and then my screen loads up as normal but my mouse and keyboard are totally unresponsive. The only way I can turn my computer off is to hold down the power button.
    Please help
    Thanks in advance.

    Hey BBDunn,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
    Thanks for the question.
Just to clarify the update you did was for 10.0.10.116 and not 10.0.0.116? When taking a picture on the BlackBerry Z10 if you hold the smartphone it will automatically focus.
Did you do the update through BlackBerry Link or over-the-air wirelessly?
I would highly suggest you create a backup of your data through BlackBerry Link (Device>Backup), then perform a security wipe by going to Settings>Security>Security Wipe.
Then test the camera out prior to restoring any data.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
    Cheers.

  • 1.2.1 = Still scrambled and frozen screen

I updated my 5G 60GB iPod and the update to 1.2.1 still didn't correct the issue of my iPod scrambling with artifacts and freezing when trying to access any menus. This is soooo annoying! Has anyone been able to fix this issue, by the update or another way? I feel like I'm being ignored by apple. If I took it to an apple store do you think they would give me a replacement? I got it as a Christmas gift last year.

I want a working iPod! Do you think it is likely
that they would replace the iPod?
Basically, you won't know until you take it in and ask. I would make it clear that you want it for video and games, so that they will make sure that those two features work before they assume that they are done helping you.
The Apple Store people are there to help make it work and are generally able to fix it with a reset or will replace it if it is still under warranty.

  • Ipod touch 1st gen is frozen, all I see is Apple logo for 10 secs and then screen goes black. What's wrong with it?

My ipod touch (1st gen) is frozen and does not respond. All I can see is the Apple logo for around 10 seconds and then screen returns to black. What is wrong?

Did you already try to connect in recovery mode and restore? iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to restore

  • Problem with my iPod touch: Frozen screen, unable to access anything as slider does not work, will not accept a full restore.  Apple Store advised that it is a 'hardware' problem and I could trade-in!

I am a relatively 'new' user.  Touch was a gift, I used it in a simplistic way - listened to music took a few photos, added a few calendar events.  After a year I then decided to be more proactive and found a few free apps (Solitaire) - then had a the frozen screen problem which I though was connected to low battery, but it wasn't.  I recharged it, still could not access, then tried a full restore and got an error message.  Took it to a Genius Bar and was told it was a hardware problem and as it is out of warranty  I could trade in or just buy a different product.  As this is my first Apple product is this usual?  Do Apple products have a very short shelf life - I anticipated that it would last me longer than a year!  Has anyone else had this problem?  Was it able to be resolved? Or is it worth trying to get it repaired - and if so who can do it - Apple  Store did not offer that to me as an option?

Sure sounds like a hardware problem. It happens some times. The iPod is just an electrical device.
Apple will exchange it for a refurbished one for this price. Apple does not repair your iPod.

Let the battery fully darain. After charging for an least an hour try a reset and restore. Use Recovery mode if necessary.
If not successful, then time for an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Xorg / catalyst / kernel upgrade - Frozen screen and input [SOLVED]

I knew it, never upgrade xorg/graphic drivers when using ATI cards, just bless your god when it works and never touch it again. But I got tempted and I did a full system upgrade, and now... my xorg is broken.
I'm using ATI proprietary drivers catalyst 8.12-1 with xorg 1.5.3-3. My card is an ATI x1950 pro.
It used to work perfectly, but since the update, when i startx I just get a terminal (because of my .xinitrc) in fullscreen without my window manager getting launched, and my mouse in the middle of the screen; and nothing responds the mouse won't move, even ctrl+alt+backspace won't work. I have to ssh on my machine and 'killall X'.
I tried starting off with a default config (using aticonfig --initial -f), but still the same problem.
I have a dual screen setup.
I disabled AIGLX and Composite, but no success.
If I fail to repair this, since I made a backup of my pacman database, I could revert it right ?
Please help us, us pwned ATI users !

edit: weird thing (or not) but DPMS (or whatever it is, the thing that turns off my monitor after some time) seems to work, altough moving the mouse or pressing the keyboard doesn't wake up the screen. Has this something to do with my mouse and keyboard not being recognized by xorg ?
edit2: omg yes it is ! I added:
    urxvtc -e 'screen'
so when I startx an un-window-managered fullscreen terminal launches with a screen session, and if I ssh on it I can type in this terminal from another computer, and the screen actually displays what I'm typing, so that's definitely an input problem !
Final Edit: Well all solved, concerning the "frozen" stuff, it was just that my keyboard and mouse weren't detected because of the new hotpulg thingy (check http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xor … otplugging for more info, or just add 'hal' to your rc.conf), then restored my original xorg.conf, rebooted and it all went back to normal (: ). Hope this helps.

Hmm, I wonder what it would reveal if someone read the news? http://www.archlinux.org/news/424/
Even your Xorg.0.log is telling you the problem.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
    Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.
(You may already have a micro USB cable if you have a camera or other digital device)

  • I am trying to buy an app. I had to update my credit card info. It won't take the update and the screen is frozen - I cannot go back into the app store.

I am trying to buy an app on my Iphone5. I needed to update my credit card info. It wont take the updated info and the screen is now frozen. I cannot go back into the app store

It's a network issue, not an account balance issue. Troubleshoot your network or just restart your iPod and/or router, try connecting to the Store a bit later, or try the download in iTunes on your computer and then sync the purchase to your device.

  • Installed OS 10.9.5 and now screen is frozen.  Cannot restart or shut down.

Installed Yosemite 10.9.5 and now screen is frozen.  Cannot restart or shut down.  Have done Repair Permissions but still not working.

Hold the power key for 10+ seconds.
Then see if you can boot into the recover partition to repair the disk or try a reinstall.
    Ciao.

  • HT4623 my iPhone 5 is frozen while I was updating with iTunes.  Can not use phone and is stuck on the iTunes and USB screen.  How do you fix it?

I can not use the phone at all.  It is frozen on the iTunes and USB screen.  iTunes is not recognizing the phone as connected either. What do I need to do to fix it.

Open iTunes on computer. Connect iPhone to computer with Lightning Cable. Hold both home and power buttons for about 20 seconds until iTunes recognizes the iPhone in Recovery Mode. Click the Restore button of iTunes. If there are any problems with this, you have 1 year Warranty with Apple. Make Genius reservation or set up service and take or send to Apple for resolution.
