Garbled Communication Alarm

I am receiving an error message "Garbled communication response from Modbus secondary(7): Response..." I have several plcs communicating to one plc via radios, and Lookout is talking only to the one plc. What does this message mean? Is the problem between the plc and the computer, or could it be between the plcs?

I do not just want to increase the Receive Gap. This problem does not occur on a regular basis, but when it does it happens repeatedly. I am hoping to identify the problem before setting the alarm timer higher to avoid the alarms.

  • Lookout 5.1 No Response alarm

I am using Lookout 5.1 with modbus communication to communicate with RTU units. I often get garbled communication and also No response but then after a period of time the system makes communication and the garbled and / or no response message clears. I am talking about the messages that show up in the window area at the bottom of the screen. What I would like to do is add an alarm in case the system receives the no response and it doesn't clear after x amount of time. What I want to do is determine if I have actually lost communication with the device as opposed to just missing one of the polls. What would be the best way to do this?

Maybe you can use the modbus.CommFail. When the communication fails, CommFail turns ON. Create a DelayOn Timer. On/OFF = modbus.CommFail. Timer delay = 00:10 for example. Then, create an Alarm object to monitor the DelayOn Timer.

  • Garbled VoIP calls on 1208, 1616 but not other pho...

I live in the US but I am on business in Europe frequently. To save on local calls, I bought a pay per call SIM card and tried to use it in an older 1208. Result: Totally garbled communication when receiving calls from the US via VoIP. Calls inside Germany work fine (non VoIP). So I thought there is something wrong and went to a store and bought a 1616. Same problem. I do NOT have this problem when I use my (US) iPhone, and it is also not present on a Samsung (being called from the same number in the US). What is going on? This cannot be a Vodafone issue, as the carrier for me on my US iPhone when I am in Germany is also Vodafone.

    Try this:
    dial-peer voice 2 pots
    direct-inward-dial
Without this command the router will not collect the digits coming across the PRI.

  • Alarms on WAE 512

    Hello,
Just got few alarms in one of WAE's saying router unreachable.
I put the right wccp passwords, reset the cms tables and database, bounced the device but still no good. It can register with the CM but there is no traffic going through.
    Major Alarms:
            Alarm ID                 Module/Submodule               Instance
       1 rtr_unreachable           WCCP/svc061/rtr10.4.12.10
         Feb  9 14:09:28.914 summer, Communication Alarm, #000001, 17000:17002
WCCP router 10.4.12.10 unreachable for service id: 61.
       2 rtr_unreachable           WCCP/svc062/rtr10.4.12.10

WCCP router 10.4.12.10 unreachable for service id: 62.
Any suggestions will be appreaciated. we are running 4.2.3b
    cheers

    Hi Srini,
As the alarm is saying, the WCCP router seems to be unreachable.
The first things to do would be verifying that they have connectivity and also that the WCCP service is properly configured on the router.
If you need help with this, you can always open a TAC service request

  • Drivers Stop when mailer sends email

We have recently deployed a proven mailer process to a customers existing installation. The process sends out a text message based on alarm conditions. On our customers computer whenever the mailer object is triggered, both an AB driver (ethernet to a SLC500) and a Modbus driver (TCP/IP) generate communication alarms and will not restart until Lookout is shutdown and restarted.  Simply restarting the driver process will not restart the communications. The Modbus error is "No response from socket", the AB  error is "cannot communicate with device (code=2)". There is also a DirectLogic Plus driver object that provides ethernet communications to several Koyo PLCs, this driver is not affected. I can NOT duplicate this at our office, our test setup works as expected. We have tried this both with and without using a SMTP server, there is no difference. We have also used this same basic arrangement at other sites without any problems.
The system is Lookout 6.1 with updates, the PLC network(ethernet) has 1 SLC500, 4 direct Logic DL260 and DL06s, one Modbus device through a Digi Serial server, 2 Cmore touch screens, and 1 panelview touch screen. The troubled computer is WindowsXP SP3, has two nics, one wired for PLCs and one wireless for internet. Our test computer that works just fine is also WindowsXP SP3, has 2 wired nics one for PLC and one for internet. The nics are on different subnets.
All ideas as to what might be happening are appreciated.
    Jim Besselman

The email is successfully sent by Lookout. I haven't tried pinging the smtp server but while the communication is good but since the email is sent I expect that we can. We can view web pages normally and send and receive email using outlook express without causing any disruption to the PLC communications. The problem is somewhat unique to either this particular computer or the network settings. We have been using the mailer object for several years with lookout versions 5.1 and higher and various PLC drivers with out seeing this before. I have seen another instance where an onboard network adapter caused Lookout problems even though Lookout was not using the network. In that case the issue was solved by installing a new network card and disabling the onboard network adapter. I'm pretty sure replacing the computer will fix this but I'd really like to know what the cause is.  I guess my next step would be to use a utility to monitor the network traffic unless you've got some other ideas.

  • Why do input tags stop working when I add more tags to my project ?

I'm having a problem with tags, when I add more input tags to my project the rest of the tags stop responding, that is when I monitor them with the tag monitor I get a low limit error, if I delete the new tags in the project the rest of the tags start working ok, the whole project has 804 tags, and I'm using a Pentium 4 2.8GHz server, 256 Mb RAM and Windows 2000 Advanced Server, Any idea of what could be happening ?

Hello, I'm attaching the SCF File, the new tags that we created when the problem started are "VoltajeBateriaPozo11" and "VoltajeLineaPozo11" through "VoltajeBateriaPozo15" and "VoltajeLineaPozo15" (new set of tags)
When this set of new tags are included in the SCF file the tags "VoltajeBateriaPozo1" and "VoltajeLineaPozo1" through "VoltajeBateriaPozo15" and "VoltajeLineaPozo15"
don't show the correct value when we monitor them (We get the low limit alarm), the rest of the tags work properly.
When we delete the new set of tags all the tags work properly (including "VoltajeBateriaPozo1" and "VoltajeLineaPozo1" through "VoltajeBateriaPozo10" and "VoltajeLineaPozo10").
The OPC server we are using is the National Instruments OPC Lo
okOut Driver Version 4.5, the alarms are not communication alarms.

  • How to set poll rate in IA OPC sever v5.1

    Hi all,
I m very new to labview(using LV7.0), using IA OPC server version 5.1. I have connected 3 slaves on serial communication bus having slave ID 1,4 n 8. So, what should be the value of poll rate, receive timeout and receive gap ?? How they are related to each other?????
    Waiting for ur valuable reply
    Thanks & Regards,
    Ratna

    Hi,
In IA OPC server i have created 3 Modbus object for 3 devices, in each object pollrate is 0.6sec, receive timeout is 200msec n retry attemps is 0. Also the receive gap is 100bytes, with all these settings when i start communication  i get Garbled communication from modbus secondary11) Bad CRC error and some times No communication response from modbus secondary. On serial communication bus all 3 slaves are connected as Slave ID1, Slave ID2, and SlaveID3, so how the driver will send query and receive response from all 3 devices?? Will it first send query to Slave ID1 then slave id2 and then slaveid 3 and will receive the response in a same manner or in a different manner????
Any suggestions will be valuable to me
    Thanks n Regards,

  • Alarm communication startegies

I want to manage alarms and get experties in Alarm Management. I have studied DSC Module and it examples.
I can develope simple Alarm Application ie reading Tags and generating Alarms on some values on FrontPanel.
Also I know how Tag Monitor Handel Alarm.
    But
    I want to know
    1)  How to configure alarm , so that it is also generated on some Hardware like MOSIAC Panel etc and user Acknowledges it on Hardware Buttond.
    2)  How different sounds can be attached with Auidable Alarms instead of Beeps.
Please any lecture , tutorial, presentation etc in this regard will be highly appretiated.
    Regards.

    Hi zalmay,
I hope you're doing well.  Hopefully I can help direct you in the right direction to the answers of your questions.
1.)  It sounds like you want to be able to have your alarms be displayed on an HMI (like a touch panel) and allow the user to acknowledge it from this same HMI.  This is something that can be done in LabVIEW; it is just a matter of how fancy you want it and how much implementation you want to do.  The Mosaic Operator Interfaces listed on their website all are C programmable with Serial ports, so one way to communicate to these is to have your LabVIEW application send data to these touch panels via serial commands.  You would then need to seperately program the Mosaic HMI in C, since this seems to be how they were intended to be used.  Some other options are some of NI's HMIs that can run LabVIEW directly.  The NI FPT-1015 acts as a monitor for an exisiting desktop or industrial PC, where you can use the touch panel as a mouse replacement.  With this implementation, you can simply run the VI you develop right on the PC and attach the HMI to it.  Another option is the NI PPC-2015; with this panel, the PC and touch-panel are included in one package.
2.)  Your alarm sounds are dependent on your Windows sounds.  This KnowledgeBase discusses the topic, and how to configure Windows to change your sound.

  • How do I replace bookmark bar that was lost when a new Mozilla Fox Start page suddenly appeared with a Zone Alarm Community Toolbar, and nothing I have so far tried, working with "Show all Bookmarks", works ("Unable to process the backup file).

My current version is 6.0.2. A box appeared a few days ago informing me of an update to 7 (x?). I declined for the time being.
Then a Start Page just showed up missing the bookmark tool bar. I tried to import a bar from another browser. Nothing showed up. Then, I went to "Help". First, I clicked on "About Firefox" where I was informed of an update. This time, I tried it. When I clicked on "Apply Update", I received a message; 'Update could not be installed" despite there being no other Firefox browsers running.
I went back to "Help" and clicked on "Firefox Help". A page came up with the URL in place, but the page would not load ("Cannot find server at support.mozilla.com"). After several clicks on "Try Again" with the same result, I copied the URL and pasted it into a different browser, from which I am now working.
Before sending this question, I tried the two procedures ("Manual Backup" and "Restoring From Backup") found on Bookmarks/Show All Bookmarks/Import And Backup/Restore, using both "stored backups" from Mozilla's Profile folder and "Choose a file", as well as Bookmarks/Show ... /Backup. In each case, the response was, "Unable to process the backup file".
I had previously tried another method I found on Google which involved copying and saving a Mozilla backup file (this is the file I used in the procedure above - "Choose a File") found in the C:/Documents And Settings/.../Profile Folder, then renaming the original file "backup.HTML" and saving it in a folder one level up from its original location. The Bookmark bar was to show up after shutting down and reopening Mozilla - it never happened. I replaced the original backup file.
It occurred to me to locate the Bookmark File for this browser (Chrome) and using it in the "Choose a File" method, referred to above. But there is no extension included in the file name, and I was afraid to try it.
I'm out of ideas. Is there something else to try?

Check that the Bookmarks Toolbar is visible and that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is still placed on the Bookmarks Toolbar.
If the menu bar is hidden then press F10 or hold down the Alt key, that should make the "Menu Bar" appear.
Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible: "View > Toolbars"
    * Open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout" (Linux, Windows)
    * Check that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
    * If the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the toolbar palette in the customize window to the Bookmarks Toolbar
    * If you do not see the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" or other items that are missing in the toolbar palette or on a toolbar then click the "Restore Default Set" button

  • Communication problem with Modbus object in Lookout 3.8

What means the error code 06 besides the following alarm message NO COMMUNICATION RESPONSE FROM MODBUS SECONDARY ? Lookout runtime-express version 3.8 build 7

    Greetings,
The alarm message "No Communication response from modbus secondary" means that communication cannot be established between the modbus object and your external device. Verify that you have set up the serial port settings properly and that you have configured the modbus object. Verify that your external device is functioning properly and connected to the PC. If all of these things are ok, you may need to increase the receive gap of the serial port settings and the receive timeout of the modbus object. There is a tutorial on the web which outlines the troubleshooting steps for communication in Lookout.

  • Question about bluetooth communication between PC and mobile device

I am a newbie of bluetooth communication. This time I need to have connumication between PC and mobile device (mainly mobile phone) by sending strings. PC is acted as server and mobile device act as client.
For using bluetooth in PC, I use bluecove 2.0.1
I have already connected them successfully.
When I want to send strings between them, it is found that it can only do one cycle of communication (client -> server -> client).
For my design, they can communicate multiple times.
I simulate the core class of the system, the performance is fine.
Cound anyone help me to watch the code and give me some advices?

    i haven't worked with devices but only with the toolkit emulators;
    it definitely is possible...
u have to send the image as a bytestream and receive the image at the jsp end...
    and then reconstruct the image.
the Stream classes in J2ME AND J2SE are all u will require.
    also the Image class.
i have not done this but i have successfully sent an image frm a jsp and displayed it on the emulator.

  • Firewall notifications and alarms based on syslog keywords

HI, I have an ASA and we now have a requirement that we need to be notified in case of a security concern.  I have the firewall sending syslog messages to a central syslog server but I would like to know based on what syslog keywords should I be sending out email notifications.  For ex : if I get a syslog with a keyword "SYN ATTACK" (if there is such a syslog message) I will be sending out an alarm to the security team.
Is there another way of doing this? Another ex is if we have too many dropped packets or something of this type, then I need to be notified?  Does the asdm have such a feature?
    any recommendations?

    Hello Ronni,
The Security Appliance will send email notifications due to any events you have configured based on a logging level or a logging list you have configured.
Here is one document I used before to know a little bit more about the email notifications feature.
    http://community.spiceworks.com/how_to/show/388
Other way you can send the logging messages is using a logging class.
For example lets say you just want to send events related to failover and webvpn.
    logging class ha mail 7
    logging class webvpn mail 7
Hope this helps, any other question let me know.

  • How do I set my iPod's alarm volume separate from that of the other sounds?

First of all, I tried to post this to the iOS Apps community, but there doesn't seem to be one for the Clock app.
I wake up by the alarm feature on my iPod Touch, but sometimes the volume is turned down super low because throughout the day I have the volume in Settings>Sounds>Ringer and Alerts turned down while I teach. I did have the "Change with Buttons" turned on, but that seems to set the music volume the same, which I don't want (hearing a loud mail bing while listening to Bon Iver just isn't the mood I'm going for).
I think the simplest solution, and probably most obvious since many of us use our Clock's Alarm feature, is to have it's own volume somewhere like Settings>Notifications>Clock. Something like that. But I can't find it. And if there were options to turn off the sounds in Settings>Notifications>Mail - or any of the preloaded iOS software - that would work, too. But there's not from what I can see.
Has anyone found a workaround for this? How can I keep my Alarm volume without disturbing class all day with Mail and other notifications' sounds? I'd hate to find out that the "Most advanced iOS" still relies on me turning down the volume after I wake up and trying to remember it when I go back to sleep - both times when I'm too sleepy to think.

This works on an iPod Touch, OS 6.1.6.
    Basically you need to
    - turn off "change with buttons" in Settings->Sounds->Ringer and alerts
    - turn on "do not disturb" in Settings.
    This way
    - the lateral buttons will only affect the music sound;
    - all notifications, lock, and unlock will be silent
    - but the alarm overruns this, and can still be heard (at the same volume as the music was last left to, I presume).
So you can listen to Bon Iver withouth emails swooshing in and out, and you don't need to remember changing the volume before going to sleep and after waking up I have to say: pretty cumbersome to figure out, Apple!

  • I just downloaded Mountain Lion on my Macbook Pro.  Firefox and Safari are showing up in HTML (I think) and many web pages are garbled and unreadable.

I just downloaded Mountain Lion on my Macbook Pro 10.8.2  Now Safari and Firefox are not functioning right - sites are garbled, show up as bulleted blue phrases, don't react.  I am trying to search train tickets in Paris and can't  do it.  My e-mail (Shaw) defaults to HTML and I cannot access the Bay site through e-mail. Help.

Please read this whole message before doing anything. This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it. Step 1 The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.” While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin. Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem? After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it. *Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing. Step 2 The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. *Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Change Alarm / Quality of Shared Variables for I/O Server

How does one set the Bad Status of a Shared Variable in 2009?
IE).  I have a custom device that communicates via TCP/IP.  I wrote my own I/O server that handles this communication and publishes a set of Shared Variables that my Main Application displays on a screen.  These variables are all doubles and hold pressures and temperatures.   If my I/O server in labview loses communication I would like to be able to set the status of the variables to bad so they will set off an alarm.  In our main application we have colour indicators that are able to display this status.  For example the background goes yellow for all indicators that are in "HI" alarm status, red in "HI HI" and orange when "Bad Status" (disconnected).
We were able to accomplish this using LabVIEW 7.1 DSC, by creating a VI to register all our "Tags" and a VI to run the server.  The server vi's that came with 7.1 allowed us to set the quality when writing to the server item.  Therefore when the device was disconnected or failed we could set the bad status and use the DSC system to log an alarm and use the alarm features to colour code our indicators.

None of the Shared Variable IO Properties can be configured to allow you to set the alarm.  You can only configure the properties such as turning the possibility of the alarm status on/off and the priority, name etc.  You do not have the ability to indicate that this shared variable is in alarm because your custom server has encountered a problem.   I've talked to tech support about it and I've been informed that this was something that was removed when the shared variable engine was introduced.   I've been told informed that the recommended alternative is to create an additional boolean shared variable that will contain the status of the items, or to write some sort of unique garbage value to the actual tag value to indicate there is a problem with it.
I now have to come up with a new way of providing this information.  I just find it will likely be a poor programming choice because now my entire system will have to handle "tags" differently based on what hardware is being used.  (IE) if its coming from a custom I/O device or from an OPC / Modbus etc capable device.
