Garbled playback and can't uncheck hardware acceleration

I have the latest version of flash player on a macbook with mountain lion. i have garbled, green video playback, and after searching the web for about an hour it looks like it has something to do with hardware acceleration being turned on. when I right clicked on flash videos as well as the flash logo for some howto pages dealing with this bug, a dialogue pops up, but that dialogue is useless because it is totally unresponsive to clicks. Therefore, I can't change anything, including unchecking hardware acceleration.
How do I disable hardware acceleration given that this dialogue is totally unresponsive to mouse clicks, and when I try to use tab and space or enter to uncheck the checkbox for hardware acceleration, the checkbox stays selected? Better yet, how do I make it so that flash videos actually work?

Is this a Macbook with a retina display?  If so, please install our beta 2 release on labs and make sure to select the  "Allow Adobe to install updates (recommended)" option at the end of the installer.  Give it a few hours and you should get an automatic update that will hopefully fix the issue of the hardware acceleration dialog being unclickable.  I'd also like to know if this addresses the green screen issue you are getting.
Thanks,
Chris

  • Where/how can I find hardware acceleration?

Since I started using Firefox the text fonts are really, really thin and hard to read. So I went thru the questions & answers posted in the help forum. I found a very good answer - it says: Turn off hardware acceleration in Options. I cud not find it, so......
I come to my question: Where or how can I find Hardware acceleration??

That preference isn't available in Firefox 3.6.x versions, it is a new preference / feature in Firefox 4.0.

  • Application can't recognize hardware acceleration, but it is definitely switched on

    Hi there,
I'm a newbie to this forum but I've looked around before posting my problem and couldn't find any solution. Maybe there is someone who can give me a hint.
Here is my problem: I have two users on my Windows 7 desktop pc, Both users are playing Farmville 2. Until the last week's update everything was working fine. But now Farmville is displaying a message saying that hardware acceleration is off and the option fullscreen mode is unavailable. This applies to user 1 on firefox as well as on chrome and to user 2 on chrome only. In other words: User 2 can play in full screen mode with firefox but not with chrome.
I have checked everything mentioned on the help page Flash Player games, video, or audio don't work | Windows. (The Flash Player Information bos says that my OS was Windows 7 (32-bit) although I'm definitely have a 64 bit OS). I have removed Flash player and re-installed and turned hardware acceleration back on, which is necessary to play Farmville 2 in full screen mode.
    Thanks for any useful help
    Werner

@Jeromie I hope this will help!

  • How can I open hardware acceleration for safari 5.1.1 in Windows 7?

It is said that safari 5 for windows supports hardware acceleration now. But I cannot open this feature in my Windows 7 laptop. Is there any way to open this feature manually?

I know Safari a little and 5.1 can come to its knees easily and repeatedly.
At first I thought it lasted longer if:
    disble java, plugins, javascript
run only in Private Browsing mode
    disable web cache
I'd like to see it launch with cache disabled and like firefox always start in Private mode.
    Plus site specific preferences
Still accepts ad and tracking cookies - must consider those to be "well you visited the site" so the site can set whatever it wants.
    I'll use Opera 11.50 instead.
I tried Windows "trobleshoot compatibility" it wants to set to run it in XP SP3 mode and at the end "incompatible application".
    Settings applied:
    XP SP2 mode
Disable Aero (iTunes will lose video/movie Window if the desktop is locked for UAC)
I've lost all borders of windows and tabs, freezes or locks up but no sign of  not responding even though I can't do anything - but I could close Windows and tabs from the Task bar.
Total PITA and waste of time as I investigate, remove and check for conflicts with Kaspersky and others.

  • How can I disable hardware acceleration in Safari 5.1 ?

for performance testing purposes, I need to do so. Specifically, to disable 2D Canvas hardware acceleration.
I can't figure out how. Is there any way? I am on Mac. I would like to know about how to do so both on Mac and Windows.

You can switch acclelerated compositing and accelerated canvas drawing on and off from the Debug menu. To enable this menu run
    defaults write com.apple.safari IncludeInternalDebugMenu 1

  • Can't Turn Hardware Accelerator off in Lion

I've been trying all day to turn hardware acceleration off on my computer and can not.
The settings are unresponsive to a mouse and the keyboard shortcuts will cycle through the icons and I can select them, but making a change (i.e. unticking the hardware accerator off) is not working.
Even tried updateing to Adobe Falsh 11, no luck.
    Help!

    Hi Christopher,
Are you using this particular iMac (Model Identifier: iMac7,1/ATI,Radeon HD2600)?  If so, I apologize, we are aware of a problem with Flash dialogs and Lion on this system.  We're working closely with Apple and ATI and hope to have it resolved soon.
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • Grey lines in address bar, bookmarks bar and tabs. Disabling hardware acceleration fixes it but then vertical sync isn't working in the browser. Solution?

Drivers are up to date! ATI Radeon HD 5850.

If there are problems with hardware acceleration disabled then try to disable OMTC and set this pref to false on the <b>about:config</b> page.
    * <b>about:config</b> page: layers.offmainthreadcomposition.enabled = false

    Jens

With this "hack" I was able to enable the CUDA acceleration. I inserted "GeForce GT 650M" in the aforementioned textfile (without "Nvidia"). Before that I also could only use software acceleration.
Now with my machine I think I should also be able to use OpenCL, right? How do I get this option? These are my specs:

  • I've gone through the procedures; i.e. unchecked hardware acceleration, and it still crashes after it is opened. I've filed the crash reports.

I've not received a crash ID

Please provide a crash id or stacktrace -> https://developer.mozilla.org/en/How_to_get_a_stacktrace_for_a_bug_report

  • Playback and Rendering issues when GPU acceleration is enabled

I'm using the new MacPro with dual AMD FirePro D300. When I enable GPU Acceleration (Open CL) I can no longer play through an entire sequence. It specifically has issues playing through any layered graphics or titles, but seems to play with those disabled. I have tried having "Composite In Linear Color" enabled and disabled, and neither seemed to make a difference. It's the same deal when rendering. If I have titles, and use GPU Acceleration it jumbles clips, cuts to black or static, all manner of weirdness. Is there something I'm missing?
An example of what playback looks like if I have titles and GPU Acceleration enabled.

This computer thing seems complicated enough that if your system works better with GPU accel off, that's you best performance. I understand they've been trying to sort out these sorts of issues but there's so many dang variables, and trying to build software that interlinks with other complicated software is something no other NLE or Grading program does. That throws even more kinks into the list.

  • Firefox crashes when logging onto googlemail on my PC, except when I am safe mode. Have tried unchecking hardware acceleration, but problen persists.

This problem began when I updated AVG to the 2012 trial version. I thenchanged over to the 2012 free edition, but the problem persists, so I think it has something to do with AVG. A scan revealed two trogan infections on the system, which Super Anti Spyware removed sucessfully. I have had this problem for about three days. In safe mode Firefox logs ontpo Gmail sucseefully.

Does the AVG system tray icon indicate AVG is enabled?<br />
''Hover the cursor over that icon and a tooltip should show AVG status.''

  • Firefox + Flash freeze before I can right-click to disable Hardware Acceleration

I've been searching a lot about this.
On my PC (latest version of Flash and Firefox as of 9/2014) my Firefox becomes unusable when Flash runs.
The general procedure to fix this issue is to load a Flash test page, right click on it, go to Settings, and then uncheck Hardware Acceleration.
    (As explained in this link:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/keep-flash-up-to-date-and-troubleshoot-problems#w_playing-flash-videos-makes-firefox-hang)
I am completely unable to even right click on a Flash object. It freezes. I have read another article about disabling mic/speakers, and that doesn't work.
I'm hoping there are registry/mozilla settings I can change that mimic the "right click.. uncheck Hardware Acceleration."

    '''[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode Start Firefox in Safe Mode]''' {web link}
    While you are in safe mode;
Type '''about:preferences''' in the address bar and press enter
    Select '''Advanced > General.'''
Look for and turn off '''Use Hardware Acceleration'''.
Poke around safe web sites. Are there any problems?
    Then restart.

  • CS5 Trial with WinXP64 and GTX260 no hardware acceleration?

    Hi everyone!
I can't get hardware acceleration in the PS CS5 Extended trial version I just installed on my work machine.
I have a Windows XP 64bit machine, with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 260 graphics card.
I installed the trial version of PS CS5.  Under Preferences>Performance, the GPU Settings area is grayed out. The description says that graphics hardware acceleration is unavailable.  "You will need to upgrade your video driver and possibly your video card."
I know the GTX 260 is supported- it works fine on my home machine, which is Win7.
I installed the latest nvidia drivers, version 197.45.  No change.  I even uninstalled the nvidia drivers, did a clean of the drivers in safe mode with Driver Sweeper, as per another post here, and reinstalled the latest nvidia drivers.  Still no change.
Any ideas?  Is it because I'm running winxp64?

I noticed when my Firefox is minimized that I can not reopen from the Dock on my MAC. So I stop Firefox and reopen, when doing so I get a mixed number of blank windows. After closing these then Firefox behaves as desired until after a bit it all happens again. I read the Windows fix and hoped hardware acceleration would fix it but it does not.

    Hello,
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
    '''[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode Start Firefox in Safe Mode]''' {web link}
    While you are in safe mode;
Type '''about:preferences'''<Enter> in the address bar
    Select '''Advanced > General.'''
Look for and turn off '''Use Hardware Acceleration'''.
Poke around safe web sites. Are there any problems?
    Then restart.

  • Receiving hardware acceleration error.  Cannot start Adobe FMLW

    Adobe FMLE Support,
I've been running version 3.0 since about March.  Last week, I made a change to one of my monitors to adjust the resolution.  I increased the hardware acceleration and noticed an improvement in my system thinking I'd lowered it when using Techsmith's Camtasia Studio for screen recording.
When I went to do my lifestream on Monday, I was unable to get Adobe Flash Media Encoder to run.  It kept saying there was a hardware acceleration issue.  I tried all the notches from left (disabled) to far right (fully enabled) but could not get it working.
Yesterday, I installed Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder 3.0.1 (6/1/2009 release) in hopes of resolving the issue but it's still a no go.
I created a video of the error and my video display settings here:

I'd appreciate your suggestions on tweaking an .ini file or checking the registry to correct this issue.
    Thanks,
    Adria Richards

It seems that your graphics card or monitor does not support full Hradware acceleration at high resolution and extended desktop. Also there are some known issues in FMLE on extended desktopm when we try to drag FMLE to second monitor.
I have tried same settings as you mentioned on my system having ATI Radeon Graphics card and my machine is working fine.
FMLE cannot work untill direct show is enabled on your system and lowre value if hardware acceleration disabeld it.
Can you check is direct show on your system is working fine?
You can verify it by typing "dxdiag" on run command
