Garbled video

I received a skype video call today, and the video looked like this.
Both of us could see my image just fine. They told me that before the call connected, they could see themselves properly. Once the call connected, their image became corrupted at my end and theirs.
I see on this site that most of the similar problems involve nVidia graphics cards, but mine is Intel.
Neither of us have had problems skyping with anyone else. Is the problem at my end or theirs? How can I fix this?

Please,  run the DirectX diagnostics tool.
Go to Windows Start and in the Run box type dxdiag.exe and press the OK button. This will start the DirectX diagnostics program. Run this diagnostics and save the results to a file. Please, attach this file to your post.
Be aware that you will have to zip this file before attaching it here.

    Screen Shot of Garbled Video
Any help is greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance,
    Eli

Call the Apple store asap. Let them know what is going on, and make an appointment with the genius.  Make sure it gets taken care of before your 1 year warranty runs out in 2 months (unless you have AppleCare).  If this issue was happening and was "fixed", obviously it wasn't and Apple needs to take care of this.

  • Garbled video and display

Sometimes after I use my computer it begins to get this garbled video on screen:
The above picture is just an example. It gets worse though... certain things that require alpha blending (like when the brightness/volume bezels fade out) or even simple things (like scrolling certain windows) makes the video all garbled. Scroll bars will flicker when scrolling. Only happens sometimes and in certain windows.
I have a feeling it's the graphics card, but could it be something simpler to fix, like some corrupt background app?
    Anybody seen anything like this?

    Anybody?

  • Blank, now garbled video in quicktime osx

I have a Samsung SC-MX20 camera, play perfectly in QuickTime Player 7.6 but the video is blank (black) in quicktime X, up until I upgraded to 10.6.4. Now the video is garbled. Funny thing is it plays fine on my (older) imac. Computer is a macbook (non firewire), late 2008 model.
    Thoughts?
    Rick

I'm having the same problem (no video when I open a MP4 or other video in QuickTime Player). However, I can view videos in iTunes. Candydrop's list is mostly my list too, but I don't have: AC3MovieImport.component or Perian.component.
I do have these that CandyDrop doesn't:
    AppleMPEG2Codec.component
    DivX Decoder.component
    FLV.component
So to sum up, this is my list:
    AppleIntermediateCodec.component
    AppleMPEG2Codec.component
    DivX Decoder.component
    Flip4Mac WMV Advanced.component
    Flip4Mac WMV Export.component
    Flip4Mac WMV Import.component
    FLV.component
Any ideas? This is a huge problem for me and I have to have it solved by the end of the day! Ack!

Does anyone else have problems playing videos back through I-Tunes, the MP3 files are fine but the video files all play back in a garbled/scratchy fashion. Can someone please advise!!!

  • Garbled video from Xserve

I currently use ARD as part of the management of a cluster of nearly 50 Xserves, and it works great on all but one.
The one is the newest, a dual 2.3 running 10.4 Server with all the updates. When I am controlling or viewing it at the login window, looks great. Type in username and password, and WHAMMO, video is all garbled. It looks almost as though its changing resolution without ARD realizing it.
Here's a couple screenshots: http://bioinfo.med.unc.edu/~ianmeyer/problemsnap1.tiff (working at the login screen); http://bioinfo.med.unc.edu/~ianmeyer/problemsnap2.tiff (after logging in)
Any ideas on what I can do to resolve this?

    I think we've found a fix:
Using ARD, copy cscreen to the directory of your choice on the server (we used Users/~, where ~is the name of the administrator account).
Again using ARD, send the UNIX command
    /Users/~ cscreen -d 24 -r 65 -x 1024 -y 768
You should get a results message to the effect that the parameters have been reset as closely as possible to your specs. The parameters above change the color depth to 24 bits from 32, the refresh rate to 65KHz (not sure if this is necessary), and the screen dimensions to 1024x768.
We found that we had to do this for root as well, sending the command as root from ARD.

  • K7N2 Delta has jibbery and garbled Video

I just purchased the FX Nvidia XT TD256 video card with the K7N2 Delta ILSR Ultra and after jumpering it to safe mode jumpers 10 and 11 i think, and clearing cmos, the screen works fine, then I restart machine, sometimes without going into bios, and video is jittery and garbled lettering. I can't get the machine to boot into windows, or even be stable enough to load windows, What could be the problem? I just purchased both of these this week, I am also using the AthlonXP 2600+ cpu, and Generic memory with TT Performance 1gig 2700, PSU 28a@+3.3v. 30a@+5v, 34a@+12v Aspire 500W, WD 80g, WD 120g, and on I/O card WD 250g HDD's. This problem occurs with every reboot, no matter what setting are in bios.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    urme9696

The nforce 2 chipset is fine, dont think thats the problem because Ive built machines with the same type board and video card without any problems at all.    Do you have a different video card to try in the K7N2??     Also check and see what the BIOS version is - It might need to be updated.    Maybe try a differnt stick of ram if possible.   A little more info on the card if possible.  its a FX5200 I think, but whats the brand??   Does it have a plug ( Molex or floppy type) for extra power on the card??
One other thing to check,   Make sure you dont have an extra stand offs on the motherboard.    Some boards take more than the 6 that that the K7n2 do.   If so this may be trying to short something out.

  • Mini DVI to S-video and composite giving complete distorted output!!

I tried to hook up my 20" Sony Trinitron either through S-video or composite to the powerbook without any success. I got completely distorted picutre. I have tried all the video resolution setting that is available on the Displays reference window with the same result. Does anybody out there run into this problem at all.

I have a 12" PowerBook 1.5ghz and had the same problem with garbled video today. When I plugged in the Mini-DVI > Composite/S-Video adapter the PowerBook would consistently think it was attached to an ordinary VGA monitor, and could not sync with the television. This caused a B&W, warped, split in half picture.
I took the adapter back to the Apple store, plugged it into one of their demo units, and saw it behaved the same way. They gave me a replacement and everything has been fine since.

  • Deactivating CS4 Windows with defective 640x480 video

My notebook computer's video card died, and I can now only get garbled video in 640x480.  I want to deactivate and remove CS4 Production Premium for Windows from this system, but with only a garbled 640x480 display, I can only deactivate to the point where it tells me to save open documents and talks about erasing my serial number. If there is a selection to make, or a "continue" or "deactivate now" button in this dialog box, I cannot see it, access it or trigger it with a 640x480 screen. Does anyone know of a way to continue deactivation under these circumstances?

Adobe support might be able to take care of the deactivation for you without the need for the machine.  Try contacting them using chat or the phone.

  • Person who makes video call has terrible quality.

Just finished testing iChat 5 with my sister-in-law (both of us were using Snow Leopard on Santa-Rosa MacBooks.)
When I would place the call to her, the video was garbled beyond use a few seconds into the chat (as if no I-frames were ever received.) The audio was usable, but with noticeable distortion. The video and audio received on her end were pristine.
When she placed the call to me, the reverse occurred: I could see her wonderfully (although I'm not sure it was better than iChat 4), but she could only see garbled video and hear distorted audio.
For WAP/Routers: She is using a Microsoft MN-700, I am using a Linksys WRT54G (with the Tomato firmware for NAT-PMP support.)
The connection doctor reports (on my side at least) that my router is "Port Restricted." Although my problems are with quality, not necessarily connectivity.
    Any advice is appreciated.

    Hi,
In iChat 4 it seemed that an Apple Base Station did better with PMP turned ON
In Snow Leopard people have reported it better in Apple Base Station if it is Off.
iChat will fail in Video if it senses less than 50kbps
A 1-1 chat in Video in any Version has always been quoted as need 100kbps
a 4 Way Video chat is quoted a 384 kbps as a minimum requirement although like a 1-1 chat it can be done with less although quality suffers.
In iChat 4 I have rarely seen iChat state it is using above 500kbps in the Connection Doctor during a chat no matter how fast each end is.
iChat 5 is displaying higher but not over 800kbps
As it is a case of matching different Internet Speeds of different people around the world there naturally has to be a fairly low starting point.

  • Cisco 9900 (9951/9971) Show/Hide Video

    Hi there,
Can I remove the Show/Hide Video option from the 9951/9971 Video Phones?

I've had a TAC case SR 629554885 open for this issue for about 2 months without resolution.  Specifically In our case I have an ASA at the remote end which drops the packet fragments as they appear as some type of attack due to the way they are fragmented.  This causes the phones to receive garbled video and eventually crash and reboot.  Did you ever find a workaround?

  • Macbook Pro 4,1 - NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT

So, over the last 2 years, I very rarely used my Mac.  I had my work laptop, iphone and iPad.  In the last few weeks I started using the laptop
for running the INSANITY workout videos(MP4) during my workout.  Sunday, June 30, during my early morning workout, the laptop screen
scrambles like a checkerboard and froze.  I could still hear the audio, but the video was gone.  A minute later, the laptop shutdown and reboot with message
"Your computer restarted becasuse of a problem. Press a key or wait a few seconds to continue starting up." (displayed in 6 languages)
After a few reboots the sytem would come back up, but only for about 5 minutes, then same message.
Today, Tuesday, I finally found the discs my system shipped with (10.5x),  so I was able to run Apple Hardware Test

Ok, Kaz & Grant, took your advice and went to local apple store.  The tech ran their video checker, looked like a small black external hdd labled GPT that he plugged in.  After the video fail, he said it "could" be the video card or the logic board.  He was familiar with the repair program but dismissed it because he said it had expired for me in September 2012.

  • Thunderbolt to Firewire 800 external drive problems

I recently upgraded from a MacBook Pro 17" early 2011 to a MacBook Pro Retina 15" (early 2013).  I have a Drobo and two Seagate 4TB external drives, all connected via Firewire 800.  So, I added a Thunderbolt to Firewire 800 adapter and, it seemed, life was good.
I keep my large iTunes Movie and TV show collection on the Drobo.  Since transitioning to the new MacBook, I have had a number of issue with watching movies on my Apple TV 3.  Randomly, and periodically, the movie appears to be corrupted - the audio track skips/loops and the image is horrible macroblocked, as if the file is damaged.  When I check the movies on the Drobo, opening it with Quicktime on the MBP, it plays just fine at the same spot it appeared damaged on the Apple TV 3.
A second symptom is this: I can no longer re-encode video with Handbrake with the source and target files on the Drobo - it gets some portion of the way through and it just stops, leaving the video partially encoded; again, at random locations/offsets into the video and not the same spot twice.
My initial thought is that connection to the Drobo is dropping out and coming back, on its own, but long enough to cause the above problems.
Is anyone else seeing this issue or something related when using the Thunderbolt to Firewire 800 adapter with large drives?
    Thanks, in advance.

Update: I exchanged the Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter and the issue persists. I have a Drobo that I used with my previous system, a PowerMac G5, and never had any issues like this.
It does not matter what software I use. But at some point video playback will suddenly become garbled. If I start the video from the beginning, sometimes the garbled video will start sooner but never later. A restart temporarily resolves the issue. If I copy the file to the local hard drive the video will play back garbled. This is indeed a very strange issue. The issue behaves like a bandwidth bottleneck.
I was having this issue prior to upgrading to Mavericks.
