Garbling of iTunes 7

My iTunes 7 works but the GUI is garbled. As a player it seems to be working fine, but the screens are unusable. I thought it was perhaps my Mac mini's (Tiger) graphic card's limitation, but yesterday I installed iTunes 7 on an old G3 iBook (Panther) and it worked as advertised. So I am beginning to think there's something else going on with the mini.
What I didn't do on the G3 iBook was that I didn't install QuickTime. I tried re-installing QT on the mini but it made no difference.
Since I am not hearing many more people with a similar problem, I can assume there's something that I caused on the mini. What's difficult is that MS Word is the only 3rd party software that I have on it that I rarely ever use. I use this Mac primarily as a jukebox and it is plays 24/7 via AEX to the audio system. It is connected to a 42" Plasma TV.
Anyone have any ideas what I could do next? Is there a wrong way and correct way to un-install QT? Is there a way to roll back QT to the version that was there before iTunes 7?
Specs: Mac mini 1.25G 1G RAM. OS X 10.4.7.
Patrick

The above image shows how iTunes looks like when I try to switch between one playlist to another. Album covers don't show at all, and if they do they are partially clipped and are also garbled.

  • Imported files sound "garbled" in Itunes, play fine in VLC

    Hey all,
I have 7000+ audio files on a Lacie Rugged External Hard Drive, dumped there as I am putting them on a new computer. When I import these files into Itunes, they either don't show up, or half of them have no ID3 tag, and these files sound "garbled"...not really sure how to describe the sound.
I can easily play these files with VLC. The files in question DO show up as MPEGs, half work half don't in itunes, but they all play (at least the tracks I randomly tested) in VLC. Has anyone run into this? Can anyone shed light on this issue?

Also...I'm running the latest edition of Itunes...

  • Sound garbled with iTunes

I tried to plus a B&W Zeppelin with my iMac through a minijack optical Toslink.
First problem : I cannot control sound level anymore from the menu bar : it's stuck to maximuM. I can only control it through the Zeppelin remote or the iTunes sound control.
Second problem : on some records (namely the Barry Lindon soundtrack), sound is horribly garbled, especially in the bass range (distorted). The same records play perfectly on my large tube system outside the office…

It's probably some setup parameter, or possibly the firmware on your NAS. I just did a quick google of +buffalo linkstation itunes setup+ and there were several mentions on the manufacturer's support site to upgrade the firmware after getting it out of the box.
Anyway, good luck - I do know some folks have posted that they have NAS working with itunes, so it can be done. As to your initial question, there is no way to stop itunes from writing to the ITL and XML files.

  • Songs are skipping - garbled on itunes player

In the past few days, the songs that I purchased from the itunes store are garbled and skip upon playback. I tried downloading the new version of itunes, but it's still happening. Any news of this with other users, or how do I fix this?

Try going into iTunes, Deauthorizing your computer in the Store menu, play one of the songs in iTunes that won't load. When prompted enter your Apple ID and password. Resync.

  • Breaking Album Artwork!

A few days ago I wrote about garbling of iTunes on my Mac mini.
Well I might be a step closer to finding out why but have not been able to prevent it. I have managed to fix the problem but under certain conditions it will break again...permanently.
    Mission:
I began to suspect that the problem was not caused by either hardware or the application. Instead that the problem was in the Library itself. So I hooked up an external drive to the Mac that has the iTunes problem and pointed iTunes to the backup copy of iTunes on the external drive. (In this case I used Terminal to create a symbolic link.) And sure enough iTunes worked like a charm. Until..
    Problem:
Until I turned on the Visualizer! Then iTunes will break again and becomes garbled. And there is nothing else I can do except to trash the broken library and re-import a new one from backup.
    Why Album Artwork
I used FileMerge to compare the two Libraries and needless to say it cannot be reliably done because they are almost all Data, but I was able to see that there were Added directories in the Album Artwork of the broken Library. Being that they are Added, I can't tell what's different about them other than that they are new.
    What Next?
I have no idea what to do next. The Visualizer runs fine on at least one other Mac (eMac 1.25G) with the exact same Library. Does anyone have any ideas?

Seems like noone has the answer about corrupted files - iTune creates a real mess in organising music files you have collected - I believe it is iTune the cause of all corruption problem with your music folder (iTune shoud never organise anything on a windows platform) - if you have found a solution to access the corrupted folder and recover all files I am interested - then adios iTune - don't want to use it anymore - liked it - now despise it

  • Some songs in library and on itunes store sound garbled

    Hi,
When I play certain songs that I previously purchased through iTunes or when trying to listen to some song fragments in the iTunes store, they sound really garbled or don't play at all...other songs are fine.
I'm using iTunes 9 on a new computer with Vista...but had the same problems with iTunes 8.2.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

I assume that the songs with this error have a "!" in front of them? If so, this usually happens when the iTunes music folder is moved or manipulated in some manner. Did you do anything with the iTunes music folder such as change its drive location?

  • HT1600 After playing movie on netflix or purchased through itunes for a while, sound is garbled. people sound like robots. Stops if i retart/restore but, does it again. Software updated, wires all in.

After playing show purchased through itunes or playing netflix for a approximately 1 hour the sound is garbled. The people speaking soung like robots. I restart/restore and it happens again. Software updated and all connections are fine. What is the problem?? I plan on taking it back...

Doesn't sound right - if you've unpowered it to restore, and also restored I'd suspect a hardware issue if this gradually develops, perhaps heat related issues.
If under warranty get it looked at/replaced.

  • Garbled arabic text in itunes

My arabic text showed fine when I was using iTunes in Windows. However, on my MacBook the arabic titles of songs are garbled and in strange characters.

You may need to convert your id3 tags to unicode.  There is an app called ID3Mod that can help.

  • My itunes playback and transfered mp3 files are corrupted and sound garbled...***? All software is updated.

Recently my itunes player and sync mp3's play sped up and garbled. All software is updated
and all obvious logical attempts to fix it have failed. My  files play fine on Media Player, and
burn fine using Nero. Problem's gotta be in itunes.
    Any ideas?

I've uploaded a new version of my DeDuper script which should be able to detect when the same file is on two different paths and act appropriately. The script preserves ratings, play counts and playlist membership and can recycle real duplicates while keeping hold of an original copy each duplicated track. See this thread for background, this post for detailed usage instructions, and please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping.
Test with the duplicated tracks of a single album first just to get a feel for it. It can take some time to run as it makes 5 passes over the selection, so you'll need to be patient if you are not able to use it with the progress bar active. If it detects the possibility (as it will in your case) that two seemingly different paths point to the same file it will prompt you to confirm the correct path to the media folder. This should be the C:\Users\<User>\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media one, please correct it if it detected the wrong folder before proceeding.

  • Garbled (skipping) songs on iPod and iTunes back again after upgrade

I orginally posted about this back in September. Some of my songs all of a sudden became garbled or were skipping on both my iPod and in iTunes. The CD's don't skip. At that time a new version on iTunes was available and some iPod genious in this forum asked me to upgrade. Once I upgraded to the latest version it fixed the problem. All my songs went back to normal. BUT SINCE THEN, a new version on iTunes came out again. When I upgarded, the garbled songs and skipping came back. I'm figuring that this is an iTunes problem since upgrading to new versions made the problem go away and come back.
Has anyone found a solution to this? Can someone help me?

I'm having problems with mine as well. Mine studders through songs every so often. I haven't found an answer to that yet.

  • Font in iTunes 11 – mine is garbled

Hi does anyone know what the iTunes font is for version 11? mine is missing (as well as iCal) and is garbled. If i know what it is I can restore it.
I would insert a screenshot but hey ho, the pop up box isn't working either.
    Thanks peeps.

I want higher resolution then afforded in the original download.
Then why are you converting iTunes purchases?
You cannot get higher resolution by converting  the original. This goes for converting anything, not just iTunes purchases.
Creating an AIFF will simply make the file 10 time as large with zero increase in quality.
Don't really want to debate value of creating the new version.
    Agreed.
You are simply wasting time and drive space converting iTunes purchases to AIFF.

  • ITunes automatically garbled all Chinese characters in mp3 tags

I tried to reinstall my audio collection on my iPod. When I uploaded my collection of Chinese CDs from mp3 files, iTunes automatically turned all ID3 tags into garbage. (So, not only were the tags turned into gibberish in iTunes, the information in the mp3 files themselves was all destroyed.)
I tried to use Right Click > 'Convert ID3 Tags', but got the error "Could not convert ID3 tags for all the selected songs. The songs may be write-protected or of the wrong type." The songs are normal mp3 files and have all protected removed.
    What can I still do?

Correct! I use the "globe" key to switch among keyboard when I need it and English or Italian to make accented characters.
All characters appears displayed correctly before the email is sent.
I did some further checks and discovered that actually arise sometimes when some email Outlook 2003 client is involved in the replies back and forth. Under certain circumstances the font is changed to Sinsum and the accented chars are displayed as...

  • Garbled "underwater" distortion in itunes

If i leave itunes on for a while, then the music it plays starts to sound like it is under water... there is this strange sound distortion. It is not resolved by closing Itunes and re opening and is only resolved when i reset my computer. Usually itunes runs just fine. How do i fix this, it is very annoying to have to reset my computer just for itunes. Thanks.
