Garmin Sat. Nav. on 5800

Hi,
I have been told that I can purchase the one off fee of the european map by Garmin to be installed in my Nokia 5800 xpressMusic phone.
At present I have a Garmin Sat Nav which covers the whole of europe.
It seems to me that I can sell it and pay the one off fee to install the garmin europe sat nav into my mobile phone.
As I live in London, I already have the UK navigation in the phone.
Question:
Do you know if it is really possible to place the Garmin map into the phone? Are there subscription fees for this or is it just a one off fee?, etc...
If true then where do i get this please?
Thanks

You would have to check on the Garmin web site if they have a compatible version for this phone. I would also advise you to check what the 'one-time' fee that you have heard of includes, ie: do you get software and map data updates with the package? Remember that roads change often so data needs regular updates.
Nokia Maps may require a regular licence purchase, but you are guaranteed regular free updates to both the software and the map data. Also, Nokia Maps 3.0 (which is still in Beta version but allegedly due for full launch soon), the licences will be cheaper and cover more - national licences will be no more and you will get at least a regional licence (such as Europe, North America, etc.) for less than the current price of the cheapest Maps 2.0 licence.

  • Using a garmin sat nav device, when planning a route on the mac it always defaults to the same far away location as the starting point. How can I change this?

Whenever I start route planning using Garmin Connect, the map opens at the same distant location every time, by default. How can I change this and make it open at my own location?

    Hello Cgifford,
    Welcome to National Instruments Forums.
To output your signal to the PFI lines,
you can use external connectios between OUT0 and PFI lines. You can also use
the backplane to do so by routing into the same RTSI line.
    1)
On the SCOPE and FGEN, the name of the
terminals are actually “PXI Trigger Line x/RTSIx” but on the 6602 you might
need to route the signal using the property:
You can also use the DAQmx route signal which perform the same opperation.
    2)
This will depend on the frequency of
your pulse train. If this is lower than about 10 ms, then you can probably
place this on a loop and start and stop the acquisition every time. If the
frequency is higher than this, you will have to use:
    -       Scripting on the FGEN side (read more)
    -       MultiRecord Fetch (more information in the scope help file
section “Acquisition Functions Reading versus Fetching”).
    3)
The short answer is yes. The longer one
might depend on how tight you need the synchronization to be (us, ns, ps). For
very tight synchronization, you should look into here.

  • BB880 operation with Garmin Sat Nav software

    Hi
I have purchased Garmin firmware to run on my BB8800 which is on the Vodafone network. The Garmin software installed without problems but when I try to operate it the Garmin software wants to connect to a server to download config settings and for me to provide an activation code. The device will not connect and comes up with an error saying network connection unavailable. Otherwise all mail and internet connections are operating without problems.
I spoke to Garmin who say as far as they are concerned the software works on a BB8800 on Vodafone and Vodafone say as it's not their product so they can't help.
Can anyone advise what might be causing the problem?
    thanks

    Hi
Here is a detailed list of the problem which may help to explain better.
I purchased Garmin for Blackberry 8800, operator Vodafone from the Garmin website
I have installed the Garmin software successfully on my BB via the link.
When I select the "Garmin Mobile EU" Icon on the Blackberry to run the Garmin software the following happens
I can see the garmin logo then the message appears "Welcome to Garmin Mobile. Please select continue to retrieve application settings from the server".
    I select "Continue"
I then get a message which says "Network Connection Unavailable. Please try again later. If this problem persists, please contact the service provider. (Code:405-070)
I phoned Vodafone and they would not help me as it's not their product. They suggested that it's something to do with Enterprise activation?? but did advise that my phone is fully enabled.
Other wise all functions are fine, email, web browsing - it's definetly is connected to the network.
I have an activation code, my phones connected to the Vodafone network, by for some strange reason when I selects the Garmin Icon on the BB is believes that it can't connect to the Network.
    Thanks

  • Garmin sat nav not recognised on Macbook Air

    hi
I am (still) in the process of transferring some OMS maps onto my Garmin Quest but it doesn't appear in finder when connected via USB.  Strangely enough it DOES appear in BaseCamp (but transferring a map from there to the SatNav would be taking hours.
Any ideas what's going on here?
    Martin

    Hi David,
Unfortunately, after firmware update, 480GB still won't boot. Only able to boot to the Recovery partition.Disk Utility can read the Recovery Partition (only 1 partition) 480GB. No other partition found. There should be a Macintosh HD partition. It's gone since before Firmware update.
This may not be similar to yours. I believe OWC has crappy products :
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1459847
Now, I really need to retrieve the data from my OWC SSD. I'm out of idea. I tried Remo Recover, the scanning just hanged for hours. Can't retrieve or read anything from the OWC SSD.
I'll contact OWC for warranty. But really ****** with data losses and unreliable product from OWC

  • 5800 Sat-nav update

I'm rinning version firmware V50.0.005 and have just updated to the latest Ovi Sat-nav. Now when one of my alarms triggers it won't shut off. Pressing stop on the screen gets a response from the hand set (it vibrates) but the alarm just keeps on playing.
    Any suggestions?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Have you noticed the button you are trying to press is actually an arrow?
Instead of pressing it swipe your finger across the screen in the direction the arrow is moving.
This feature was added to the 5800 from v40 onwards to bring it into line with the newer models.

  • Problems pairing with Garmin Nuvi 1310 sat nav

I have been trying to connect to a Garmin Nuvi 1310 sat nav. It set up first time, however when I switch off the sat nav and then turn it back on my phone will not connect automatically. I have to remove it from the list on the Garmin and start all over again. Surely this can't be right, my old iPhone re-connected automatically everytime. Is there a setting I need to adjust?

I bought a Garmin 265WT recently and could pair my iPhone 1st generation to the unit but it would constantly reboot the Garmin unit. After reading all the support forums and upgrading to the latest software releases on both my iPhone and Garmin 265WT
I could not get the problem resolved running the below software/firmware:
    iPhone 2.2 and 2.2.1
Garmin 4.8 with Bluetooth Firmware 1.7
I finally called Garmin and they shipped me another unit. The new unit worked without any problems even with older software and firmware. Seems as if the reboot problem might be more than just software and firmware related.
My iphone at this point is running 2.2.1 but the below software and firmware revisions of the new Garmin 265WT worked:
The new unit came with software:
    Software Version 4.40
    GPS SW Version 2.38b
    Bluetooth SW Version 1.65
This worked no problem with bluetooth. No reboots....
    I even upgraded to:
    Software Version 5.0
    Bluetooth SW Version 1.7
The unit still worked no problem. I can only suspect the issue here is hardware related in some cases. So for some people the upgraded software/firmware may work. But if you are running both iPhone 2.2.1 (1st Gen Phone) and the latest software and Bluetooth firmware and still have the problem I would call Garmin and have them replace the unit.

  • E90 inaccurate Sat Nav

Been using Garmin with Nokia E90. I know Garmin has a facility to put the Sat Nav position "on the road" instead of the "actual position".
I find this unusual. TomTom on my E61 (with external GPS) was always accurate.
Is there any way to solve this. My position using Garmin is always inaccurate unless I am selecting the "on the road" facility. Is my GPS not functioning correctly?

The E90 AGPS can only give an approximate positioning at the best, for what it is as stand alone it's acceptable.
On my previous handset you can connect to an external receiver.
AGPS doesn't concur to improve accuracy in anyway (given only by the onboard receiver and chipset) but only to reduce the time needed for the first satellite fix (acquisition). In fact, AGPS downloads some data from servers, in order to determine the satellite position (known from almanac) and choose the gps satellites in sight for your current position and acquire them. You need to acquire 4 satellite (minimum) to solve the equation of position and time so AGPS only reduce the number of satellite to search.

  • Sat nav software

    New Booklet! Wow its fantastic!
OK so now I know where I am!
Now I need to know how to get to where I am going.
As far as I can make out the Garmin software is no longer available & the Sygnic software is no longer available.
Microsoft Autoroute? Probably needs a high spec machine.
    What else?
Anyone else using the GPS as a proper tool for getting from A to B?
If so what are you using?
    Thanks

As Nokia always say they don't support 3rd party applications I've just bought the WAYFINDER sat-nav program.
This is shown under the "Travel" tab in the,
    "Nokia Software Market" web page.
So it can't be that bad for Nokia to actually have it on their web site.
Just thought I'd mention for the record that Software Market isn't operated by Nokia - so Nokia don't actually have it on their web site...
If you go to Software Market you might notice that at the top it says "Nokia Software Market by Openbit" - Openbit is who run it.

  • N95 8GB - Pay to use sat nav?!

Am I missing something? I paid a fair wedge for my N95 8GB, and one of the things that attracted me to it was the built in sat nav.
Today I go to use it properly for the first time and find that I have to pay to activate one of the most obvious functions, namely the navigation to a destination!! Not only that, but this cost is only for a limited time period then I have to pay again!
I really hope I'm missing the point and someone can tell me what I'm missing, or guide me to an alternative app I can install?
    Thanks

    Couldn't agree more my man.
Well.... Being a Moto / SE fan myself...
Against my better judgment - I let my wife buy an N95. One of the major selling points (To her) was the built-in GPS.
I'm sorry - But I have a problem shelling out a grand on a phone, then to be politely informed that it will cost a further $100 per year to use the navigation system. (In Aust.)
Without the $100 a year subcription - the GPS is useless! (I'm sorry Jericho - but if the thing can't tell you how to get from A to B - Then it's NOT a navigation system)
And PER YEAR? So do we get a different voice every 12 months?
Will work better in 5 years time? (After all it will be a $500 investment by then)
THEN - my mate goes and buys the far cheaper (and theoretically lower spec 6110 Nav) - guess what? Route-66 included - WITH voice guided navigation out of the box? No extra charge to you sir...
What am I missing here NOKIA? Did I just buy the more expensive phone to get shafted harder?
Yes I know I can go and buy route 66 or Garmin XT - But when I can purchase a navteq based handheld for $170 (I have one in front of me) - where is the justification?

  • 3rd party sat nav for e51

i am looking for a 3rd party sat nav that is compatible with my e51, i understand that i need an external receiver but am not sure which one would be the best for my phone?
ideally the mapping of the sat nav would be topographical as well as street mapping to maximise its use.
any ideas outhere would be appreciated.

    Hi mal5336
An indication of your worldwide location may help in choice of application here as some providers maps are better for particular regions. Nokia do produce two external Bluetooth GPS receivers LD-3W and LD-4W but cheaper alternatives are available, but it would be an idea to try before you buy as software updates to Nokia devices have been known in the past to introduce compatibility issues unfortunately.

  • Free sat nav on Nokia E72 for life

I have the Nokia E72 which apparently comes with free sat nav for life. However, I cannot get this to work and the manual is not helpful in any shape or form......Any ideas as to how I activate this free device ??????

    Hi GillRogers
OvI Maps application is built into your phone firmware although it won't be the latest v3.04 version from here:http://maps.nokia.com/services-and-apps/ovi-maps/free-downloads#/nokia-e72/
You do however need to install OVI Suite on your PC to enable you to download regional maps, although you need a microSD memory card and you must run OVI Maps application at least once with memory card in place; you also need to download chosen voice files for "voice navigation" to work.
