Garritan Personal Orchestra on Intel Macs?

Hi folks...
Before I buy the Garritan Personal Orchestra for my Macbook Pro, I was wondering if any users know whether how this would run on an intel mac, (I have not used any non-Logic plug ins before).
It doesnt appear to be availbale in universal binary. I assume it will then run through Rossetta. Is this correct? If so, what kind of drop in performance might be expected? Is it possible to use non-universal plug ins on an intel driven Logic system?
With best wishes,
S.

I certainly would not be too confident in it running under Rosetta.
GPO is a reasonably hungry plug for a sampler. (the Kontakt engine isn't real efficient on the Mac platform at this point in time, compared to EXS for example).
GPO is great value for money, but since it isn't available as a UB, I wouldn't touch it as yet. It will be available eventually, as will all the Kontakt engine sample libraries.... but not yet!

Hi. Does anyone have any idea how to set up Garritan Personal Orchestra on an Intel Mac in Logic 8? Have tried Garritan website but , their info only concerns Logic 7.
    Any info very much appreciated.

Been several months, so I don't remember all the details, but I do remember it as being not that big of a deal. I think it involved updating Kontakt player.
Ahh, yes, I think this should explain it/get you on your way:

  • Garritan Personal Orchestra Not Available

    Hi,
I'm running Logic Express 7.2 on an Intel Mac. I just installed Garritan Personal Orchestra and it is not visible in Logic. Is there something I need to do in Logic to let it know that it's in there or is it something in Garritan?
    Thanks
    Pete

The Mac Intel update is on the NI site, has been for 2 or 3 days.
You will need to get the Kontakt Player 2.2.1 update with updated Garitan library items.
Once installed, in Logic you select Kontakt Player 2, (I think in the previous version you had to select GPO), apart from that it's all working fine.
If you registered your version the update is free from NI

  • Logic Express - Garritan Personal Orchestra - Kontact player 2

Nutshell: I have Garritan Personal Orchestra and Kontakt Player 2 (also Sibelius 5). I want to be able to lay down live tracks using my USB MIDI keyboard. I have tried Audacity but it won't work - although it does on Windows!
Would Logic Express allow me to do just this? ie import & use not just the sounds that come with it but the Garritan sounds or the NI instruments that come with Sibelius 5.
    Thanks
    Nick

ok, sussed it! install Garritan with the Audio Units option (go to Custom install)
Then, restart your mac... From Logic Express, start a new track (Software Instrument) and select it. From the left-hand mixer line click the blank grey box underneath I/O and select AU Instruments -> Native Instruments -> Kontact Player 2

  • Garritan personal orchestra and Logic

    Hi all,
I just bought the Garritan personal orchestra and installed it but when I open Logic it keeps crashing validation in the AU manager and if I tick it anyway Logic just crashes.
    What to do?
    Any ideas please.
    JBlen

    JBlen,
I had the same problem, and it's maddening. The answer is that you have to load all GPO instruments as 'stereo.' It's some compatibility problem with Native Instruments' Kompact player.
Load 'em as stereo and you should have no problems.

  • Can't get Garritan Personal Orchestra (GPO) to work in Logic 8?

Maybe it's just me, but I really struggled to find out the answer to this. So in case I can help anyone else safe time trying to get GPO v4 to work in Logic Express 8 then try this:

    Hi every body,
First of all sorry for my bad english I'm from Switzerland
I myself acquired one east west choirs, and I encountered the same kind of problems.
But I have a new mac pro 2.4 Ghz 12 GB RAM processor 2*6 core.
It Looks like I should be able to hack the pentagon to install this program correctly.
First, it often bugs, it crashes 2/5.
It also crashes when I load the WordBuilder,
when I load a bank, and I add one more, there are problems with the transpose. And very difficult to manage the problem touching the transpose cause bank load more than 8-10 samples and sometimes nothing moves when you touch the transpose.
Notes are also arranged on the keyboard completely strange way, for example, a bank plays in C in the middle of the keyboard and the same bank plays in G to the bottom notes, so you're in big **** even if you manage your transpose problem. The same instrument change tone!
So when I mix the bank I find a lost bottom note, lost at the top of the keyboard while playing and angelic note by mistake! The only way it's tu put down the transpose to get off this note but after you turn back with your tonality problem.
I contacted the dealer. He told me to uninstall the program and the re-install, describing me a procedure for mac which steps doesn't really appears like in the dscription.
I bought extansion that goes with this and I'm really angry given the price $ 600.
Is there someone who knows what program it is, is it a big scam or a monumental BAD series???
I wanted to buy the strings and brass too, but I strongly believe that I'll never approach an east west product or other product that would use the PLAY WIZARD, it seems they decide to sell technology that is not at all successfull and finished.
Could someone help, some one who has got this application and could answer; even if it's to hear "throw this **** to garbage and forgot" lol

  • Garritan Personal Orchestra with Logic?

Is anyone here using the Garritan Personal Orchestra with Logic?
How stable is this within Logic, any troubles?
Also, how do the solo string instruments sound, realistic or synthy?

I have absolutely no problems with using the Garritan Personal Orchestra (GPO) with Logic. Currently, the GPO uses Native-Instrument's +Kontakt 2 Player+ as do many, many other instrumental libraries. With that in mind, the other instrumental libraries (powered by +Kontakt 2 Player+ ) work just fine with Logic as well. Very shortly, though, the GPO will be coming out with its own "player" called Aria. To make a somewhat long story short, Aria works just fine with Logic as well.
As for the sound of GPO's solo string instruments. . . . I tell you, any of the sounds can and do sound unrealistic or synthy if played without manipulation. What makes them sound quite realistic is a tiny bit of effort with controlling the volume, vibrato, and a couple of audio parameters that can (and should) be manipulated during the sequencing process. But this is true for most if not ALL orchestral libraries made by any of the other instrumental software companies. For just a little under $200.00 (USA) dollars, you get a whole LOT of orchestral instruments that sound quite convincing. . . with a little effort! I would say that GPO is an EXCELLENT orchestral library to start with if you plan on doing lots of orchestral compositions for almost any musical situations. If you're like me, than you might want to later invest in other orchestral libraries and use them in combination with the GPO library. Again, with a little effort, one can achieve an even MORE realistic sound using combinations of instrumental software libraries.
But I suggest that you simply visit the GPO site. There you'll find a HUGE selection of demos that show off the GPO library in a very convincing way! I have heard examples by people who put a whole LOT of effort in their sequencing project that just sound very, very life-like! So not only did they put LOTS of effort in manipulating the individual orchestral sounds (including strings), but they put LOTS of effort in planning careful instrumental placement in the stereo field, proper use of reverb, EQing, etc., etc. There truly are examples of very life-like sounding orchestrations using GPO on the official web site! (There are also some very less than convincing examples as well.) So, take some time and explore the web site: http://www.garritan.com.
You'll find even MORE examples at: http://www.northernsounds.com
Good luck with your decision. . .
    Ted
    P. S. Just for a little clarification. . . . the +Kontakt 2 Player+ (that currently houses GPO and many other instrumental libraries) can be a bit of a challenge to configure to work properly with the multi-instrument function found within Logic Pro 8. It's also a bit of a CPU and memory hog. But with some adjustments and some proper configuration, the +Kontakt 2 Player+ and its instrumental libraries that it powers will work just fine with Logic.

  • Garritan Personal Orchestra Crashes Logic

I recently purchased Garritan Personal Orchestra to use in Logic express. The other day I created some tracks. When I went to open the project today everything loads (eventide plug in, UVI workstation) but crashes when it gets to PO and its Aria player. NOw it seems I can't open anything. Any thoughts as to how I can fix this issue? Thanks...

  • Logic Express and Garritan Personal Orchestra

Hi. Please can somebody explain (simply!) how to access Garritan sounds in Logic Express 8.
    Many Thanks
    Nick

    Straight from the Garritan website:
    http://www.garritan.com/GPO-features.html
    +No Sampler Required:+
+The collection comes integrated with the acclaimed Kontakt Player 2 sample player from Native Instruments and works as a virtual instrument. No need to purchase a separate sampler. You can adjust a number of parameters – variability, tuning and other audio characteristics – so you can control the sound of each instrument individually.+
If you installed GPO, create a Software Instrument track using the Kontakt 2 AU plugin.

  • Anyone using Garritan Personal Orchestra from an external HD?

I'm trying to transfer samples to my new external drive, and am having trouble with GPO. I tried making an alias for the GPO library folder, but with no luck. Anyone know how to do this? Thanks.

To restore the /User folder, you can use the procedure outlined in section III.C of "Mac OS X: How to back up and restore your files."
For the /Applications folder, you may or may not have much luck restoring its items from the backup. The reinstall of OS X (plus updates) will properly install bundled apps, so there is no need to restore them. For third party apps, some may work OK if just drag-copied into the new /Applications folder, but others won't. This is because many apps, particularly those that use installers, install supporting files in other locations, like /Library/Application Support, or in the Help system. Without a copy of the /Library or /System folder, you have no way to restore these items without doing a reinstall.

  • Colossus, Ivory and Garritan Persional Orchestra doesn't shown up

    Hi all,
I've just installed Logic Express yesterday and migrating my stuffs from Cubase to it. Installed and validated Garritan Personal Orchestra, Colossus but they didn't shown up in LE. Stand-alone version works fine. I've checked the Plugins folder and the component files are there. My machine is a MacBook Pro.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Kenny.

It didn't even show up in the AU. Further researchs show that since my machine is an Intel mac, those plugins won't work, at least for now.
    Thank you,
    Kenny.

  • Can I use OS9 as the start up disk on my Intel Mac?

I have a new Intel iMac. I want to partition my hard drive, install OS9 and run the old system. I know I can't use "classic" on 10.4.7 but I wonder if I could simply install OS9 and reboot my computer. I don't need to move between the two, meaning I don't need to work in OS9 then instantly click and be in 10.4.7. I can deal with the inconvenience of rebooting.
    I'm having 3 problems
#1, I have an old version of Photoshop. I'll buy the newest Photoshop someday but the latest version wasn't made for Intel Macs and it is very expensive. $600. I wonder if it runs slow on Intel Macs. Maybe I should wait for the next version.
#2 I have a great Epson printer (875 DC) but Epson has not updated the print drivers for this model and probably won't. OK fine I can buy a newer better photo printer $550.
#3 I have a "Nikon Coolscan 4000" film Scanner $1,300. This scanner is great in OS9 but the thing never worked in OS10 and now that I have this Intel iMac I downloaded the latest software update and the thing still doesn’t work and if the computer sleeps while the Nikon software is open it won't wake up and I have to restart.
To sum everything up, can I run OS9 on my Intel iMac? I don't care if I have to work in OS9 then shut down and restart to work in 10.4.7 Can this Intel iMac understand OS9. If I try to restart using OS9 as the startup disk will I damage the computer? Will I screw things up and have to spend hours and days removing files and correcting problems?
I feel like this computer is a fresh clean new baby and I'm afraid that if I start messing around with it I'll regret it.

    Hello,
I have a new Intel iMac. I want to partition my hard
drive, install OS9 and run the old system. I know I
can't use "classic" on 10.4.7 but I wonder if I could
simply install OS9 and reboot my computer.
The problem here, is that the OS 9 environment / Operating System will only run on a PowerPC processor.
The only reason that OS X will run on either processor, is that it was specifically designed to do so from the beginning.
But, OS 9 and older were specifically written for the PowerPC / Motorola processors.
So, you will need a machine with a PowerPC processor to run OS 9.
Currently, there is one program that will enable OS 9 to run on an Intel Mac. But, it requires making a copy of the Power Macintosh ROM. So, it's legal use is questionable at best.
    http://www.gibix.net/projects/sheepshaver/
This program works by emulating the PowerPC processor. And, it is reported to operate at roughly 1/8-th of native speeds. So, it could be pretty slow for productive photo work.

$600. I wonder if it runs slow on Intel Macs. Maybe I
should wait for the next version.
If it is a Mac OS X version, then it will run on the Intel systems. But, yes it will be slower. Usable, but slower.
I haven't tried this program, so I cannot personally comment on it. But, even Steve Jobs admitted it was slow on the Intel Macs.
#2 I have a great Epson printer (875 DC) but Epson
has not updated the print drivers for this model and
probably won't. OK fine I can buy a newer better
    photo printer $550.
OS X comes with drivers for the Epson Stylus Photo 875. They are provided by the Gimp-Print layer. But, installed / select just like any other printer. So, as long as you can connect the printer using USB, then you can select the driver for the 875 and be fine (as long as this is the same printer).
Otherwise, some people have reportedly installed PowerPC print drivers without trouble. I haven't tried it myself.
    #3 I have a "Nikon Coolscan 4000" film Scanner
$1,300. This scanner is great in OS9 but the thing

    Can't really help you there.
To sum everything up, can I run OS9 on my Intel iMac?
I don't care if I have to work in OS9 then shut down
and restart to work in 10.4.7 Can this Intel iMac
understand OS9. If I try to restart using OS9 as the
startup disk will I damage the computer? Will I screw
things up and have to spend hours and days removing
    files and correcting problems?
As mentioned above, the only method currently available to use OS 9 on an Intel system is that SheepShaver program.
But, I would not expect good results with it for your uses. And, it's legal status would be questionable since you need to copy a ROM file from another Mac to use it (which goes against Apple's license agreement).
I feel like this computer is a fresh clean new baby
and I'm afraid that if I start messing around with it
    I'll regret it.
Just make sure you have a good backup of everything before you start experimenting.
    I hope this helps.

You can try to repair the permissions for the Firefox application files and folders.
    You can also do this:
    * Download a new copy of the Firefox program: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
    * Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re)install.
    * Install the new version that you have downloaded.

  • Someone tell me why is it so difficult to print from my Intel Mac Mini

I'm so frusrated at this Intel Mac Mini of mine. I wish honest to God that I never bought this evil little machine.
    I have the following printers:
    HP Photosmart 7550
    HP Laserjet 1012
    Canon MP830
I can't get anything to print! It so **** frustrating. I switched my wife from her WinXP to a Intel Mac Mini (10.4.6). She hates the Mac Mini because she can't print anything.
Why is it so difficult? Please someone enlighten me.
After months (not kidding) of searching on the web I was able to get the Photosmart 7550 to print using one of the gimp drivers, but I couldn't get it to change the paper type or quality. So that tells me I can't print any photos from my Mac. Need to use the WinXP box.
Then I was able to get the 1012 printing by selecting "open using rosetta" for the Printer Setup Utility, and selecting the "HP LaserJet 4 series - Gimp-Print v5.0.0-beta2". So now I could at least print BW docs. Great the Mac Mini is not a total waste. Then I updated software, which include the Mac mini SMC Firmware Update. I don't know what did it, but now I can't print to the 1012 anymore. ARGHH!
I tried deleting the Library/Printer/HP directory, Reseting the Printing System, Restarting the CUPs, Installing PDDs, Installing the gimp drivers. What the ****! Why do I need to do any of this? I thought the Mac was suppose to be so easy. With all those **** commercials talking about how the Mac can do anything a PC can do, you would think one of those things is being able to print.
Those people making those commericals should try using the "Printer Setup Utility" program. That will change their tune. First you have to search for your printer, then pick the Printer Model, and then pick the specific model. And God forbid you click to fast, oops you've now picked a generic printer, needs to start all over again. There's no back button. You've already committed to the generic printer type. Now you have to open the Printer Setup Utility again and delete the generic printer and go search for your printer again. Lame.
Don't get me started with the Canon MP 830. I thought, ok maybe its because the 1012 and 7550 are older printers. I'll go buy a new printer - they must have current drivers for that. Canon tells me that the MP 830 is only a single OS machine, meaning you can only connect it to a windows machine and only other windows machines can print from it, or connect it to a Mac, and only other Macs can use it - Again, Lame.
Really I wanted to love the Mac OS. When I first got it, I was loving it. But what good is it if I can't print. I searched the web and it seems I'm not the only person having issues with printing.
I hate this Intel Mac Mini with every fiber of my being. Ok, maybe my printing woes are only because it's a Intel chip, and the PPC macs are golden. But come on, if you can't print from a computer, what good is it?
Please, someone help me. Otherwise, anybody want to buy a Intel dual core Mac Mini?
mac mini duo core Mac OS X (10.4.6)

You have two different issues: HP and Canon.
I don't know if I believe the Canon people. Windows XP has lots of different print options. Try installing Bonjour on Windows and then setting up a networked, Color Apple Laserwriter PS printer using "http://macmini.local:631" (assuming macmini is the name of your Mac). I have done this before (though not on a Canon). I am sure Canon will only support a standard configuration and this is not quite standard. Give it a try. It doesn't sound like it can hurt anything in your current setup.
For the HP, you might have to just wait for an updated driver from HP. HP has always had this problem. They are a huge printer company and I'm sure they get Apple hardware and OS versions before anybody else in the world. And yet, it seems as if they don't even begin working on their drivers until Apple officially releases a new OS. HP drivers are always the last to show up for a new OS and the first to break. If you get it working under MacOS 10.4.6, and then upgrade to 10.4.7, it is very likely that the HP drivers will stop working.
Unlike some of the other big companies, HP seems to have made the transition from Classic MacOS to MacOS X seamlessly. Their printer driver software works just as well on MacOS X as it did under MacOS.
