Gary broke 1000
Wow,
I just noticed Gary Crisci passed the 1000 point mark in answers. He is my go to guy when it comes to MDX questions and its about time he made it to the 1k mark. Gary, I appreciate all of your efforts on the forum an with the ODTUG Hyperion SIG. Keep up the good work and you will soon surpass me. (I would say John Goodwin, but no one can catch that tireless guru. I just want to know when he sleeps, eats or works. I envision him locked up in a room doing nothing but answering posts. For those of us that do real work, 1K is a formitable task.
I made a statment in jest in my first post about John Goodwin. I said " For those of us that do real work" implying that John does not work. While I don't know John personally, just through the board, I'm sure she works as hard if not harder than many of us. I also think he must not eat or sleep with the amount of time he spends helping others on the board. I think there is a bit of jealousy on my part, seein how much knowledge John has and his willingness to share and still have time to do his real work. While the post was to commend Gary for his efforts, getting 1000 points is tough to do, John is so far ahead of any of us, he could take a holiday for a year (I believe John is in England and so a holiday instead of a vacation) as we would still not catch up to his accomplishment.
So, John, if I insulted you in any way, I would like to appologize

Error 50/53 and other related numbers
Hello, yesterday my ipod classic started having trouble playing songs. It would attempt to play some songs and struggle to do so. If it did manage to play the song, it would only manage a few seconds before skipping to the next song that it could easily play. I figured it just needed a little reset and did so but the ipod still had problems. Then I tried synching it with iTunes but no improvement. Then, I decided to restore it and start from scratch.
It started synching and after awhile, it would stop short and say X song couldn't be copied to the ipod because of an unknown error: -53 (50 and other numbers have also appeared). Now I've done some searching already and tried numerous things already but nothing helps the situation. The most recent thing I tried was suggested here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1539 and that didn't work. I then tried restoring the ipod and checking for hard drive errors, which it would detect and promptly fix but the ipod still failed to synch.
However, after going through topics here and searching online, I have narrowed it down somewhat. While slowly synching songs by the smaller playlists (as my library has about 7000 songs), the ipod seemed to have no trouble as songs were copied quickly and without issue. But once I broke 1000 songs, it started struggling again. There were no error messages yet but I do believe the problem lies with the amount of data it's trying to copy. The only problem is, I have a 160 GB Ipod Classic so there shouldn't be any issue regarding available space. Even in iTunes, it says I have over 118 GB of data available if I were to copy the entire library. I recently found this topic https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4171036?tstart=0 but it seems to apply to Windows 7 instead of Windows 8 so I don't know for sure if a disk quota is the issue. Also, I have no idea on how to check the disk quota on Windows 8 (if I can check it at all).
I really don't want to shell out $250 for a new ipod unless all options are exhausted. I'd take it to the Apple Store but my Applecare+ warranty already expired and if I recall, I can't purchase a new one. Can anyone help me? Please?An addendum. After it got hung up around 1000 songs, I disconnected it and it turned out to have lost all of the songs already on it from the failure.

Sunblade 1000 will boot from CD-ROM or DVD-ROM
I have Sunblade 1000 with a pre-installed Solaris 8 OS. I originally purchased the workstation without a CD-ROM. I bought an old Sun 411 CD-ROM. After installing the 411 CD-ROM, I entered "boot cdrom". Somehow it will not boot from the CD-ROM drive. When I do a "probe-scsi-all" I will often get "fatal scsi errors", but sometimes the SCSI info will be displayed, bizzare. When I type the explicit or long device name with the boot command, it still will not boot. After looking for solution in the Internet and exhausting a few UNIX friends from my questions, I called Sun. According to Sun, the only compatible CD-ROM for the Sunblade 1000 is the DVD-ROM, which is OEM by Sun,and usually ships with this workstation.
After, getting over the shock that Sun sold the Sunblade 1000 without providing backward compatibility, and suffering the humiliation of spending much need company resources for a potentially useless CD-ROM, we broke down and bought the DVD-ROM.
After spending $500 dollars for the DVD-ROM, the Sunblade still cannot boot from the DVD-ROM. If I boot from the disk, and after the system comes up, the DVD-ROM shows that it is mounted, I can browse it's content, etc.
I currently have the Solaris Installation CD in DVD-ROM drive. I also tried booting off the Solaris 2.51, and 2.7 CDs. Here are some info that comes back when I entered the various commands:

Thanks in advance,

(@...sun.com)
http://groups.google.com/groups?q=solaris+probe-scsi-all+reset+auto-boot&hl=en&lr=&safe=off&site=groups

You should only run probe-scsi after the hardware has reset
but before it's initialized to start running Solaris (you
might get away with stopping then running probe-scsi early
in the boot sequence, but that's only a matter of luck,
really).
The recommended sequence is to disable autobooting if it's
set (so the machine won't boot itself automatically after a
PROM reset), then reset the hardware, then probe-scsi, then
re-enable auto-booting (if it was enabled in the first
place).
So, go to the ok prompt, then
setenv auto-boot? false
reset-all
probe-scsi (or probe-scsi-all)
setenv auto-boot? true
reset-all

Thanks,
SajjanHow do you run the program?
I need to copy the compiled BasicPlugin.api under Acrobat\plug_ins folder. I can create a subfolder of plug_ins and copy the .api file there. Just one level deep: if I create a subfolder under a subfolder of plug_ins, the .api file will not be found by Acrobat.
Then I need to restart Acrobat and I find the plugin running. In particular, BasicPlugin add a new Acrobat SDK menu and a menu item under it.
If I close Acrobat and go back to Visual Studio, I can push the Debug button which will open Acrobat for me and stop the program execution at any breakpoints I have set in the code. -
SQL Server Service Broker Updating Stored procedure
how can you update the service broker stored procedure. when i update the stored procedure the changes dont come into affect. i have tried to alter the queue, waited for all jobs to finish, but some how still the old stored procedure is running. is there any
way i can force changes to the stored procedure.
i have tried sql profiler tracing but that didnt show any changes.
I cannot alter the service broker stored procedure, when I update the stored procedure it does not show any error and successfully gets updated but the changes does not come into affect.
Is it because I need to stop the queue of the service broker on both databases before the changes could come into affect?
Note: the service broker stored procedures produce and read xmls.Presumably, this is because the procedure is executing when you alter the procedure. And if the procedure never exits, the old code will keep on running. One way to address this is to have the procedure to return if a new message has not been picked up in,
say, 1000 milliseconds.
Here is a repro to shows what I'm talking about.

Edited by: Turret on Jan 30, 2009 1:10 PMHi Tom,
Thanks for the quick response!
I am glad to hear that the log level is the reason for the output and not an issue with the broker!
Thanks again....

RD WebAccess doesn't show RemoteApps while using RD Connection Broker
Environment:

## Problem ###
For some users the RemoteApps will not be displayed on RD Web Access Web site when the
RD connection broker DC01 is used as source! If one of the three servers is selected as RemoteApp source it works without any error.
On DC01 I find the message “Error in the WMI interface to rdfarm.domain.local. Check that the machine is running and connected to the network. If the
problem persists, reboot the machine. Error Code: 0x800706BA“. All connections, pings, nslookup including FQDN request works fine.
WMI and DCOM are also checked, security permission and group membership is correct. Firewalls are all disabled!
Any idea what to check next?Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
The error which you are facing seems to occur because the communication between the RD web access and RD connection Broker is not communicating. Please verify the below two things.
1. Verify that the RemoteApp and Desktop Connection Management service is started.
2. Log on to the RD Web Access server that is configured to use the RD Connection Broker server.
The RD Web Access server that is configured to use the RD Connection Broker server must be available to communicate with the RD Connection Broker server.
a. To open Remote Desktop Web Access Configuration, click Start, point to
Administrative Tools, point to Remote Desktop Services, and then click
Remote Desktop Web Access Configuration.
b. In the Domain\user name box, type a valid domain and user account name.
c. In the Password box, type the password for the user account.
d. Verify that you can successfully log on to the RD Web Access server by using Remote Desktop Web Access Configuration.

If still not resolved then please check the below Q&A regarding RD Connection Broker.
Q. I’m using RD Connection Broker as the RemoteApp source in RD Web Access, but RD Web Access isn’t showing any icons. Why?
A. There are several reason for this, at last it found a bug. “There’s a
known bug where Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) permissions for the Terminal Services namespace disappear, leaving RD Web Access unable to query RD Connection Broker as a RemoteApp source. Re-adding the
RD Web Access server to the TS Web Access Computers group on RD Connection Broker resolves this issue for a while (but will most likely happen again over time). See
this TechNet Forum thread for more details and possible work-arounds.”

The Logon Type field indicates the kind of logon that was requested. The most common types are 2 (interactive) and 3 (network).
The Process Information fields indicate which account and process on the system requested the logon.
The Network Information fields indicate where a remote logon request originated. Workstation name is not always available and may be left blank in some cases.
The authentication information fields provide detailed information about this specific logon request.
- Transited services indicate which intermediate services have participated in this logon request.
- Package name indicates which sub-protocol was used among the NTLM protocols.
- Key length indicates the length of the generated session key. This will be 0 if no session key was requested.
Any help would be appreciated.@Pace0214
I need a little more info on your environment to get a feel for what may be going on. How many domain controllers are you using? How many sites do you have? How are they configured, i.e., hub and spoke, spanned, etc.? Do you have DC's
in the sites? Are you using AD integrated DNS or some other method? These are the big ones that come to mind.
Mr. X has got you looking in the right places, these types of errors are usually DNS or IP configuration related. AD uses subnets to find everything that DNS doesn't. It is what clients use to locate a DC to authenticate against and unless
properly configured, you will get these types of errors.

Flash displays no TLF text on publish after 1000 frames?
Whenever I test or publish a CS5 movie that uses TLF text (no matter which font), the .swf displays all elements but the text. There's simply nothing there. I'm on a mac with Snow Leopard, 10.6.7. This only happens as soon as I pass the 1000 frame limit (before, everything displays fine). Reaching wit's end here. Anyone know what causes this, and more specifically, how to solve it?
Thanks to all of you for the overwhelming response. I was able to track down the problem to text being displayed on one layer, on which some regular TLF text was displayed. No frills, no special characters, no strange font. Went for the simple solution and broke apart text on that particular layer. Flash has developed more and more of these derpy quirks over the year, to the point where it will just shut down because it's a thursday. I'm now having a coffee break whenever I want to import something, as this now takes up to three minutes just to load what used to be an instant function.

Broker not delivering messages
Hi,
I have a system which has been working fine for a year and is now causing some issues. It is running OpenMQ 4.2 with Java 1.6 (1.6.0_11-b03) on Solaris (SunOS 5.10 Generic_138888-07 sun4v sparc SUNW,Sun-Blade-T6340). No changes have been made to the configuration or the system recently.
The issue is:
1- A producer sends a bunch of messages (around 100) in a queue
2- A consumer listening to the same queue picks up say 96 of the messages and leaves 4 of them in the queue (4 random messages, not in sequence or first or last)
When I try to read these messages left on the queue using a separate script (different JVM than main software) which just connects to the queue and dumps its content on the screen, the call to consumer.receive() does not return any message. Yet listing the queue content (with "imqcmd list") actually shows the 4 messages in the queue and the consumer attached to it :/
When I restart the broker then the 4 messages are delivered correctly and processed by the application.
The broker log (set to default INFO) doesn't show any error or unusual trace, my application logs either.
This problem happened the first time after the broker had been running for 3 months in a row so we though it would probably not happen again if we restart it every month. Yet it now happened again after only 20 days since the last restart of the broker.
Another side problem: when I tried to dump the JVM content using "kill -3" I could not find it in the broker log (set using -Dimq.log.file.filename=broker.log on the command line starting the broker), any idea of how I should proceed?
Thank you very much for any help you could provide
MickaelI agree with TravelEntity.
The issue is:
1- The producer (only one) sends a bunch of messages (around 100) in a queue
2- The consumer (only one) listening to the same queue picks up say 96 of the messages and leaves 4 of them in the queue (4 random messages, not in sequence or first or last)The basic behaviour here is that the moment this consumer is created (and the connection started) the broker will send all 100 messages to the consumer (assuming you're not using a message selector), where they will be cached in the client until they are delivered to the client application. Whilst they remain in the client they will be unavailable to other consumers. When the first consumer closes, any unconsumed messages will be returned to the broker and become available for delivery to other consumers. The number of messages that are "pre-fetched" to a consumer is defined by the consumerFlowLimit of the connection or destination (see MQ admin guide for details). The default is 1000.
So this appears to explain why when you created a second consumer, it didn't receive any messages despite there being four messages left on the queue.
However I don't understand what you mean by "leave 4 random messages in the queue". How were you doing that? Messages are consumed from the queue in order - unless you use a message selector.
3- The producer sends another bunch of messages in the same queue
4- The consumer picks up say 98 of the messages and leaves 2 of them in the queue
5- mqlist then shows 6 messages in the queue, consumer.receive() returns null if tried from the main client or from a separate queue dump tool What is mqlist? It's not a MQ tool.
You can use the MQ command imqcmd to report on how many messages are being cached on the client in this way: in the following sample of its usage, "Count" is the total number of messages on the queue, and "UnAck" tells you how many of those messages are being cached on the client.
C:\mq\bin>imqcmd list dst
Name Type State Producers Consumers Msgs
Total Wildcard Total Wildcard Count Remote UnAck Avg Size
INPUT.Q Queue RUNNING 0 - 1 - 9268 0 4709 1237.2805

Remote connect to ObjectStore/Broker
Hi, I am new to Sun One Message Queue. I have installed the product on a server and it works fine when I call the Object Store locally using both topics and queues. However, I cannot figure out how to connect to the Object Store/Broker from a remote machine. We must use JMS only with topics and I am not sure if there is a Context Factory specifically designed for this procedure. Also, it would be nice to connect via TCP/IP.
If anyone can point out a sample, that would be great.
Thanks,
BrianHi Brian,
Please find below the instructions to connect to the broker from a stand alone client using the context factory and via TCP/IP.
I have used Message Queue shipped with S1AS7,it requires application server jar files also.The following might help you.
You can successfully lookup JMS objects remotely from a standalone Java client by the following setup.
1. The JMS lookup string should not use name space: java:comp/env/ since java:comp/env/ is a J2EE application name space and the standalone client is not a J2EE application. So you will need the lookup string to be like
jms/sampleQCF instead of java:comp/env/jms/sampleQCF
2. Setup the ORB to communicate with the server.
The following system properties need to be set:
-Dorg.omg.CORBA.ORBInitialHost=xxx
-Dorg.omg.CORBA.ORBInitialPort=yyy (default is 3700)
These properties can either be set when you invoke the JVM (i.e. -D org.omg.CORBA.ORBInitialHost=hostname) or in your
client code (i.e.System.setProperty("org.omg.CORBA.ORBInitialHost","hostname"); ).
3. Include appserv-rt.jar,appserv-admin.jar and appserv-ext.jar to the client classpath.
4. The JARs included and the ORB properties set, your client code looks the same as when the ACC is used. You don't need to pass any environment properties
to the InitialContext constructor. Use
Context initialContext = new InitialContext();
4. Include the Message Queue JARs like fscontext.jar, imq.jar, imqadmin.jar, and imqutil.jar.
5. There are some native libraries that are required on the client CLASSPATH
for Windows: the following DLLs must be on the client PATH:
cis.dll, libnspr4.dll, libplc4.dll, libplds4.dll, nss3.dll, and ssl3.dll. All of these DLLs can be found in the "bin" directory of S1AS
for Solaris: Include -Djava.library.path=$S1AS_INSTALL/lib in the CLASSPATH
6. By using this configuration, you can successfully lookup a JMS resources on the remote server.You will get a log message indicating that ORB monitoring couldn't be initialized. You can turn it off through admin console or server.xml.
<orb message-fragment-size="1024" steady-thread-pool-size="10"
max-thread-pool-size="200" idle-thread-timeout-in-seconds="300"
max-connections="1024" monitoring-enabled="false"/>
VIA TCP/IP, the code snippet is for Queues:
public class MessageProducerClient {
private QueueConnectionFactory qconFactory;
private QueueConnection qcon;
private QueueSession qsession;
private QueueSender qsender;
private Queue queue;
private ObjectMessage objmsg;
private boolean quit = false;
public final static String JMS_FACTORY="QueueConnectionFactory";
public final static String QUEUE="jms/Queue";
public MessageProducerClient() {
* @param args the command line arguments
public void init(String brokerhost,String brokerport) throws NamingException, JMSException {
com.sun.messaging.QueueConnectionFactory qconFactory = new com.sun.messaging.QueueConnectionFactory();
try {
qconFactory.setProperty("imqBrokerHostName", brokerhost);
qconFactory.setProperty("imqBrokerHostPort", brokerport);
qcon = qconFactory.createQueueConnection();
qsession = qcon.createQueueSession(false, Session.AUTO_ACKNOWLEDGE);
com.sun.messaging.Queue queue = new com.sun.messaging.Queue();
queue.setProperty("imqDestinationName", "logisticsQueue");
qsender = qsession.createSender(queue);
qcon.start();
catch(JMSException e){
e.printStackTrace();
public void close() throws JMSException {
qsession.close();
qcon.close();
public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
if (args.length!=2) {
System.out.println("Usage : com.sun.developerplatform.logistics.insurance.testclient.MessageProducerClient imqbrokerhost imqbrokerport ");
return;
com.sun.developerplatform.logistics.insurance.testclient.MessageProducerClient qs = new com.sun.developerplatform.logistics.insurance.testclient.MessageProducerClient();
qs.init(args[0],args[1]);
ShipmentMessageData shipmentmessagedata = new ShipmentMessageData(100,"Cargoline","San Diego","New York",1000.50);
qs.sendMessage(shipmentmessagedata);
qs.close();
public void sendMessage( com.sun.developerplatform.logistics.insurance.busobj.ShipmentMessageData objtosend) throws JMSException {
objmsg = qsession.createObjectMessage();
objmsg.setObject(objtosend);
qsender.send(objmsg);
System.out.println("Message sent to the Queue");
Get back in case you any issues.

ActiveMQ-CPP client hangs when connect ActiveMQ-CPP client & OpenMQ broker
I am trying to connect an ActiveMQ-CPP client with an Oracle OpenMQ broker via STOMP. Both manufacturers claim this will work, and I have been able to get an ActiveMQ-CPP client to connect to an ActiveMQ broker via STOMP, an OpenMQ client with an OpenMQ broker via STOMP, and an OpenMQ client with an ActiveMQ broker via STOMP without problems, but the only one missing is what I need- ActiveMQ-CPP client to connect with OpenMQ broker.
I am using Fedora Linux and am using the provided "example" script for ActiveMQ-CPP, changing the brokerURL to be "tcp://localhost:61613?wireFormat=stomp" instead, where the OpenMQ STOMP bridge is located at localhost:61613.
On the OpenMQ end, I receive the request to connect by the client and I start a connection:
INFO: Create JMS connection for user admin with client id ID:csa-nexus-57767-1281630228652-1:0
Aug 12, 2010 8:23:48 AM
INFO: Started JMS connection 8950669406784000768[ID:csa-nexus-57767-1281630228652-1:0] for user admin
This is where the ActiveMQ-CPP client hangs at "connection->start", or if this is removed, "connection->createSession".
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!I need to use ActiveMQ-CPP because I need a C++ messaging client which supports failover, which OpenMQ's C client does not. I thought it was unlikely that it wouldn't be able to connect as well. I can't find a good way to debug the ActiveMQ-CPP client enough to know whether the problem is on the ActiveMQ-CPP client's end or the OpenMQ broker's end.
Here is the source code for installing ActiveMQ-CPP, that is how you install it: http://activemq.apache.org/cms/activemq-cpp-322-release.html.
The example comes bundled with ActiveMQ-CPP installation, but I'll show you parts of the main.cpp file that does all of the work:
class HelloWorldConsumer : public ExceptionListener,
public MessageListener,
public Runnable {
private:
this->brokerURI = brokerURI;
virtual ~HelloWorldConsumer(){
cleanup();
void close() {
this->cleanup();
void waitUntilReady() {
latch.await();
virtual void run() {
try {
auto_ptr<ConnectionFactory> connectionFactory( ConnectionFactory::createCMSConnectionFactory( brokerURI ) );
// Create a Connection
connection = connectionFactory->createConnection("admin", "admin");
connection->start();
connection->setExceptionListener(this);
// Create a Session
if( this->sessionTransacted == true ) {
session = connection->createSession( Session::SESSION_TRANSACTED );
} else {
session = connection->createSession( Session::AUTO_ACKNOWLEDGE );
// Create the destination (Topic or Queue)
if( useTopic ) {
destination = session->createTopic( "TEST.FOO" );
} else {
destination = session->createQueue( "TEST.FOO" );
// Create a MessageConsumer from the Session to the Topic or Queue
consumer = session->createConsumer( destination );
consumer->setMessageListener( this );
std::cout.flush();
std::cerr.flush();
// Indicate we are ready for messages.
latch.countDown();
// Wait while asynchronous messages come in.
doneLatch.await( waitMillis );
} catch( CMSException& e ) {
// Indicate we are ready for messages.
latch.countDown();
e.printStackTrace();
// Called from the consumer since this class is a registered MessageListener.
virtual void onMessage( const Message* message ){
static int count = 0;
try
count++;
const TextMessage* textMessage =
dynamic_cast< const TextMessage* >( message );
string text = "";
if( textMessage != NULL ) {
text = textMessage->getText();
} else {
text = "NOT A TEXTMESSAGE!";
printf( "Message #%d Received: %s\n", count, text.c_str() );
} catch (CMSException& e) {
e.printStackTrace();
// Commit all messages.
if( this->sessionTransacted ) {
session->commit();
// No matter what, tag the count down latch until done.
doneLatch.countDown();
// If something bad happens you see it here as this class is also been
// registered as an ExceptionListener with the connection.
virtual void onException( const CMSException& ex AMQCPP_UNUSED) {
printf("CMS Exception occurred. Shutting down client.\n");
ex.printStackTrace();
exit(1);
int main(int argc AMQCPP_UNUSED, char* argv[] AMQCPP_UNUSED) {
activemq::library::ActiveMQCPP::initializeLibrary();
std::cout << "=====================================================\n";
std::cout << "Starting the example:" << std::endl;
std::cout << "-----------------------------------------------------\n";
std::string brokerURI =
"tcp://localhost:61613"
"?wireFormat=stomp"
// "&soConnectTimeout=5"
// "&connection.sendTimeout=5"
// "&connection.useAsyncSend=true"
// "&transport.useInactivityMonitor=false"
// "&connection.alwaysSyncSend=true"
// "&connection.useAsyncSend=true"
// "&transport.commandTracingEnabled=true"
// "&transport.tcpTracingEnabled=true"
// "&wireFormat.tightEncodingEnabled=true"
//============================================================
// set to true to use topics instead of queues
// Note in the code above that this causes createTopic or
// createQueue to be used in both consumer an producer.
//============================================================
bool useTopics = true;
bool sessionTransacted = false;
int numMessages = 2000;
long long startTime = System::currentTimeMillis();
HelloWorldProducer producer( brokerURI, numMessages, useTopics );
HelloWorldConsumer consumer( brokerURI, numMessages, useTopics, sessionTransacted );
// Start the consumer thread.
Thread consumerThread( &consumer );
consumerThread.start();
// Wait for the consumer to indicate that its ready to go.
consumer.waitUntilReady();
// Start the producer thread.
Thread producerThread( &producer );
producerThread.start();
// Wait for the threads to complete.
producerThread.join();
consumerThread.join();
long long endTime = System::currentTimeMillis();
double totalTime = (double)(endTime - startTime) / 1000.0;
consumer.close();
producer.close();
std::cout << "Time to completion = " << totalTime << " seconds." << std::endl;
std::cout << "-----------------------------------------------------\n";
std::cout << "Finished with the example." << std::endl;
std::cout << "=====================================================\n";
activemq::library::ActiveMQCPP::shutdownLibrary();
// END SNIPPET: demo The places where the code will hang upon connection are "connection->start() and connection->createSession()". Again, this happens with any ActiveMQ client, no matter the language, and via Stomp, both should be supported. But using an OpenMQ client with ActiveMQ broker works perfectly. And using this code with its own ActiveMQ broker still via Stomp works perfectly as well.

$1000 budget for a starter editing rig
My desktop that I used for editing recently broke down due to old age. Unfortunately I only have a budget of $1000. I am looking to upgrade after 3 months due to tight budget. What starting system do you require for someone who heavily editing HDSLR footages?
hello friends,
I don't know if it's okay to post my question here in this existing thread but since it's somehow related I thought I should give it a try:
(sorry for any mistakes, English is not my native language)
I'm also looking for hardware to build up a new computer for some editing with Premiere Pro CS6. Until now, I've edited with my (very) old AMD quadcore (4GB RAM) and my i5-MacBook Pro, using Premiere CS6 on both systems. I'm a university student, always on a tight budget. And I'm used to be quite patient with my computer while editing. So please keep this in mind while reading this. I know that most of you consider a budget of ~$1500-$1800 far too cheap to really buy a decent editing computer. But so far, I've managed to edit my videos and pictures on my very old piece of crap computer and still was satisfied with the results. I'd just love to increase my computer's editing performance a little bit and - compared to the old system I'm using now - this should be do-able, even with ~$1500.
My problem is that I know far too less about hardware. I'm struggling to find the right parts to create a balanced system. That's why I'm asking you guys!
I'd like to use the following components: (my max. budget's around $2000)
- Intel Core i7-3770
- Samsung SSD 840 Pro Series 256GB
- ASUS GTX660-TI
I've read good things about the ASUS Sabertooth X79 in combination with the GSkil RipjawsZ F3-12800CL9Q2-32GBZL - but this mainboard seems to be a bit overkill for the other parts, right? Like I said, I'm having difficulties with finding the right balance between all the hardware parts. Of course I'd also need a decent power supply.
I'm usually working on rather short videos and projects. That's why I'm doing okay without a fast RAID system.
I've already read quite a bit about this whole subject. Quite a lot of people also recommended cheaper and not so much high-performance parts. They told me it would be better to rather spend ~$1300 than ~$2000 cause I wouldn't be able to spot great performance differencies anyway in this "price range". Do you think that's true?
Here's an example for a low-budget system somebody "arranged" for me: (sorry for the German website, but you should be able to figure out the parts nevertheless)
http://geizhals.at/?cat=WL-171769
And to give you a better idea of what I'm doing with Premiere:
My YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/schaaf
I'd love to be able to use beginner-friendly plugins like MB Colorista for grading etc. This is something I'm not really able to do now on my old computer. The performance is just too bad. As you can see, I'm working with h.264 coded footage only, coming from my GoPro 2 or Canon EOS 7D.
I'd really appreciate your help!
Best Regards,
Herbert -
My lap top broke. No hard drive now. I have a new notebook with windows 8 and an ipod classic (2009) which has 1000's of tunes on. How do I recover my iTunes library please?
You probably need to undock the panels on the right and the toolbox by clicking and dragging on the top out into the workspace.
Then move them back to the sides of the workspace without docking them (the blue line means they are going to dock) -
Hello ,
I broke the screen of my Lumia 920 just 3 weeks after buying it. Although its working fine the screeen is still a problem and i wanted to fix that and when i went to a Nokia Branch they said missuse is not under the phones warranty and it would cost me 1000 SAR to fix it and the phone's original price is 2500SAR so thats almost 50% of the phone's price that's just too much to pay . I would like to know if there is a way to get a new phone or atleast decrease that price that I have to pay
Solved!
