Gatekeeper in proxy mode

Hello,
i have a gatekeeper configured with a single local Zone ( the remote customers Gateways and my local voip gateways are registered to a single local Zone ), basically my voip network is used for termination issues and most of the carriers sending traffic to my voip gateways don't use a gatekeeper in their implemantation , so i m obliged to have this single local zone on the gatekeeper.
in order to have an accurate gatekeeper accounting i need to place or configure gatekeeper in proxy mode .
i m asking if it is possible to use proxy mode for a gatekeeper having only a single Local zone(what i have understood about proxy mode is that it is based on remote zones usage which does not apply to my case because i have only a gatekeeper with one local zone ) , if it is possible how can i do this ? if not , is there any alternate solution (configuring the gatekeeper with more than one local zone and in this case how will be the routing process ..).

WIth a single local zone you cannot run the proxy mode, and in my experience proxy mode does not work well with multiple local zones. It is really designed to work with remote zones.
However as for the billing, if you bill off the gatekeeper in non proxy mode, then you should be able to get the billing information from the gatekeeper. The signalling does not go through the gatekeeper, but at the time of the DRQ it will have sufficient information in there. What specific VSA's are you looking for that you do not get?

In FCPX 10.1.2 how do you edit in proxy mode...and after you are done editing in proxy mode, how do you switch back to original media? I had no problems with old version but complicated with newer version.

In old version of FCPX I could easily edit in proxy mode which i found to be a quicker way of editing...all i did was goto preferences and click on playback tab and change it from original media to proxy...and i could go right into editing, and when i was finished before i would export my project i would switch back to original media...then i would export my project. Now i'm having a hard time accomplishing this on the newer version fcpx 10.1.2. Somebody please help me....thanks in advance!!!

I am resonably new to FCP X so I cant tell whether this is new (after update) or if its a known problem and how to solve it. I have seen a couple of other posts that suggest its new.

This is my pet checklist for questions regarding FCP X performance.
FCP X 10.0.3 runs very well on my 2009 MacPro 2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 16 GB RAM and ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024 MB.
First, check that you have at least 20% free space on the Hard Drive that your System and your Media, Projects and Events are on.
Check the spec of your Mac against the system requirements:

If you are getting crashes, there is some conflict on the OS. Create a new (admin) user account on your system and use FCP X from there - if it runs a lot better, there's a conflict and a clean install would be recommended.
Keep projects to 20 mins or less. If you have a long project, work on 20 min sections then paste these into a final project for export.
Create Optimised media - most camera native files are highly compressed and need a great deal of processor power to play back - particularly if you add titles, filters or effects. ProRes 422 takes up much more hard drive space but is very lightly compressed. It edits and plays back superbly.
If you are short of drive space, use ProRes 422 Proxy - but remember to select High Quality when you export your movie.
Hide Audio Waveforms at all times when you don't need them (both in Browser and Storyline / Timeline). They take up a lot of processor power. (Use the switch icon at the bottom-right of your timeline to select a format without waveforms if you don't need them at the moment, then switch back when you do).
Create folders in the Project and Events libraries and put any projects you are not working on currently, in those folders. This will help a lot.
Move your Projects and Events to an external HD (make sure it's formatted OS Extended - with journaled on or off) and run from there.
The biggest single improvement I saw in performance was when I upgraded the RAM from 8 GB to 16.

I'm stuck in proxy mode, how can I get out?

I seem to be be stuck in proxy mode. Even with a new library and a new clip, it shows a 'missing proxy' label. I can't switch to 'optimized/original media'. FCPX simply doesn't do it. I already tried trashing prefs and reinstalling FCPX. please help?

What exactly happens when you try to switch by selecting Original/Optimized as in Alchroma's image? Does it still show Proxy as selected?
You may also try Window->Revert to Original Layout.
If reinstalling, it is recommended that you use FCS Remover to make sure that all traces of the application are deleted. And then you'd need to download a fresh copy from the App Store, and also download the additional content from inside the application.
It stays on Proxy. That is the issue.
Revert to original layout didn't help.
I uninstalled using AppCleaner. I deleted all files (except the 1Gb of additional content)

Content Engine in Proxy Mode

My client want CE in proxy mode (all users browser's proxy setting will point to CE) and some features I read is still unclear.
1. If the CE is not able to fetch the content, can CE get it from another proxy with port say 8080, with auth entication? I read the ACNS v5.1 doc, which mention transparent mode can do this (?).
2. I heard there is .pac file for proxy mode, where can get more details for this .pac file regarding how to configure it & what is supported in the .pac file?

I have read some more from the url you gave me, regarding the primary proxy failover, I need some clarification.
My client actually bought 2 CE, and the scenario they want is to let all users point to, let's say CE1, then CE1 will ask CE2 to fetch the content, if the somehow the ISP is down, CE2 can try to get the content from another proxy (which has different ISP).
They don't want transparent mode.
I think CE should have no problem doing this scenario (please correct me if I'm wrong). But I'm quite unsure if CE2 will only go to another proxy only when the ISP is down. Please comment on this.
When user hit the CE1, because of cache miss, it'll go to CE2, assuming CE2 fetch the content, will the CE1 cache it also or the next user request will always be serve by CE2?

Issue relinking after switching to Proxy Mode

So I'm 80% through a music video, and things are gettings a bit "jumpy"!
I'm told my FCPX that some frames dropped out because the hard drive was too slow, so I switched over to Proxy Mode.
Suddenly, all the clips in the event library and the timeline go red. When I try to reconnect them, nothing happens. The clips will come back if I switch back to the optimized media pref.
Is this normal? I have 11gb of ram on a 8-core mac pro... didn't have this issue until I upgraded to 10.0.3

OK, sorry to come back to this, but I'm working on another project now that has become a bit jumpy.
When I tried to transcode the media for Proxie, it tells me that I have not got enough room on my hard drive. All the project files and events are stored on the same drive which has 317gb free. The original footage file is 36.72gb...
Surly this is enough?

127.0.0.1:2002 is your home network. I will assume that you are developing the sock5 proxy on your home network.
IPV6 is backwards compatible. If it is sending or asking for IPV6 address then the site that you are navigating to has an IPV6 associated with the dns name. Do you allow IPV6 in the about:config page? (network.dns.disableipv6 set to true? )
IPv6 addresses can be 16 or fewer, so this address is fine. Also the address comes from a reverse lookup gethostname() or in the case of IPV6() a domain ip6.arpa pointer is used. What is configured in Firefox how to connect to the network? Have you manually set up the proxy ip and port?

Anyway to run etester scripts in proxy mode thru eME?

Our E-tester scripts were recorded thru proxy. Is there a way to have eME run these tests, but in navigation editor mode? The tests are failing when I kick the off in eME because they are playing back in Etester mode.

Interesting question! You're right that we will always try to use e-Tester to play back the scripts in eMe and that Navigation Editor playback is not a supported feature. I got together last night with some of our developers and kicked around some ideas about getting to the point you need to be at. That is, playing proxy based scripts back in eMe. One idea we came up with was to use a "Third Party Test" in eMe to kick of a java agent playback of a script. This would play back the proxy script in a thin client mode using Java agent (meaning that you would need to turn on the generate java agent script option in e-Tester and re-save the file). Before I get to the specifics of how this may be done, let me ask a couple questions:
1.) The first natural question is "Why is there a need to play proxy based scripts in eMe"? I would think for regression testing there would be more of a need for event based automation rather than http playback
2.) What level of detail are you looking for in the results reporting?
The answer to those questions will certainly help us here at Empirix understand some of the requirements that are out in the market.
OK, so let's get to the details of how to do the thin client playback. Remember also that just because we can do something doesn't mean we should and also remember that what I am about to discuss is not an "officially supported" feature so the correct forum for troubleshooting will be here on QAZone and not in the support call center. Also take note that if the following details look too involved that we can always do the work for you in a consulting engagement. Please discuss that with your Account Manager.
I created a basic script against one of our demo applications and called it "script2". I saved this script in my "User_Day" workspace. My options were set to create a java agent thin client script (script2.jwg) in addition to the standard thin client script (script2.wg). I can now do a command line playback of this script by going to the c:\empirix\etest directory and typing the following line at the command prompt:

In order to get the pass/fail condition we need to modify some of the property files of the java agent to create a log file that we can also type to the command line output in our batch file or parse in some other way. To do that we need to edit the log4jJavaAgentDebug.xml file:

The warning here is that you don?t want to do this on a machine that would be acting as a load testing agent as the debug logging will cause load performance problems and generate a ton of data. The changes will result in an "agent.log" file being created. If playback goes well and everything passes then the result will be a blank file. If there are problems on playback then there will be exceptions listed in the log file.
There are ways to change the pass condition to create something other than a blank file for successful playback but it would require edits to the scriptCallback.java file ... something along the lines of:

Let's not worry about that for now. The bottom line is that there are ways to get around the playback problems you are seeing in eMe. This is just one approach ... As I mentioned before another approach, and maybe better approach would be to determine why the scripts are proxy based scripts and not standard e-Tester automation based scripts.

Websense URL Filtering is not working in transparent proxy mode

The "sh ip wccp web-cach detail" show that the redirection to CE cluster (5 of them)is working but the url filtering doesnt work at all. The Websense server is on the same VLAN as all the 5 CE. This thing happened when we reconfigured the wccp router list in all the 5 CE point to the msfc vlan ip from the loopback ip address of the msfc. But the strange thing is the filtering work well when we manually configured the proxy server in the internet explorer point to the CE. Any advise?

Problem is due to absense of Host header field . Most of the browsers will send host header field. But in HTTP/1.0 Host header is not a must , though most of the browsers send it.

Load Balancing in Reverse Proxy Mode

Is the HTTP Load Balancing function working only in the Routing context or works it generally. I set the SJWPS as a Reverse Proxy like this

if you need to route / provide load balancing between 2 hosts, then you will need to have Route SAF . you can use web server 7 reverse proxy cli or gui to get this. however, you might want to start from a fresh configuration to avoid reverse-map / map that you have experimented with does not overlap with the 'Route' functionality that you seem to need here

How to edit in proxy mode in cs6

i am doing My first feature film edit in premiere cs6 it's red footage 2k,i am new to edit r3d files in cs6 can any one help me the best way to edit my film ( do i edit directly 2k footage or edit in proxy?)

Run the following test:
- import several R3D footages into a PrPro project;
- drop them into the timeline (I assume you know how to create a sequence, which matches your footages);
- try to play the timeline back. If you have some issues, set the Playback Resolution to 1/2 (I also assume you know how to change the Playback Resolution) and try to play the timeline back again. If you still have playback issues, set the Playback Resolution to 1/4.
Hope the above is clear enough. If you have some questions after performing the test, please, be specific and as detailed as possible.

Cisco WSA : Is it possible to use web proxy in transparent mode without WCCP router ?

Hi Stephane
The only alternative to WCCP is PBR (Policy Based Routing). With a simple configuration on the router you can redirect traffic defined as interesting by access list to WSA. On the WSA you need to configure transparent mode (Security Services -> Web Proxy -> Edit Settings -> Proxy Mode: Transparent). You also need to assure that proxy is listening on the port 80 and that HTTPS proxy is enabled (on port 443) if you want to redirect the HTTPS traffic as well.
Sample configuration for Cisco router
access-list 110 permit tcp any any eq www
route-map proxy-redirect permit 10
match ip address 110
set ip next-hop xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
interface ethernet0/1
ip policy route-map proxy-redirect
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the proxy IP in such case and access-list 110 defines web traffic (HTTP TCP/80) as interesting.
The biggest disadvantage of such solution is lack of failure detection. If the proxy will go down for some reason router will keep redirecting the traffic causing internet access outage.
Routers other than Cisco equipment should also have an option to configure policy based routing.

I have to choose beetween proxy mode or the RFC adapter.
I have already looked the differents "how to" and they said to use the proxy because it manages the delta (EOIO).
But if i don't care of the mode delta, someone can tell me the best for each case ?
If you can tell me the differents steps to implement the RFC mode it will be nice

There are plenty of blogs available for both RFC and Proxy scenarios. Just for the in the forum. I would go with Proxy as it would be adapter less communication with R3 and XI.

FMS edge hybird mode

I need help to setup FMS edge can stream video from a FMS-core (or from other FMS-edge). configuration diagram:
FMLE ==> FMS-core ==> FMS-edge ==> users.
on FMS-edge i have a application on
C:\AMS\applications\myapp
if i did not change anything in Vhost.xml file (path: C:\AMS\conf\_defaultRoot_\_defaultVHost_\Vhost.xml). The myapp application is ok, but can not see the video stream rtmp://FMS-edge/live/livestream.
if i change Vhost file:

<Mode>remote</Mode>
<RouteTable protocol="">
<RouteEntry>FMS-edge:1935;FMS-core:1935</RouteEntry>
Then video stream is ok but application don't.
In this case, setup FMS-edge hybird mode. 1 Vhost setup as local mode to serve myapp application, and 1 Vhost setup as remote mode to serve streamming video from FMS-core, right?

i believe for you to be gettiing .proxy files you must be having disk caching enabled. These are created to handle process mutex. These files get removed as soon as fms shuts down. If these are not getting deleted maybe you are not shutting the edge server (in the edge origin configuration) down properly or you are not shutting down at all.
