Gatekeeper settings--app damaged

I made the mistake of listening to other Mac users when I wanted to get wifi who told me I didn't need to pay for an airport product. So I bought a Linksys router. After having a Panic yesterday I was advised to make sure my software & OS was up to date (there was a firmware update for my MacBookPro which I quickly & easily took care of) & also to update router firmware.
In the process of trying to do this, I discovered that the previous version of Cisco Connect software showed unsupported OS when I tried to open it. So needed to update. Finally found a link that was suposed to be for a Mountain Lion compatible update.
I downloaded it & then tried to open Set Up I would get a warning saying it was damaged but then help said modified or damaged.
But there was also a link there that I just clicked on Protect your Mac from malware & it talks about the Gatekeeper preferences.
For the setting Identified Developers which seems to be the default, part of it says:
OS X checks the app before it opens the first time to be certain it hasn’t been modified since the developer shipped it.
Just wondering how that applies to updates? I keep getting this same message, but I'm wondering, since it is an update of an earlier version whether maybe that is triggering the warning rather than something really being wrong w the software?
I have downloaded it 3x & I keep getting this same message so I don't know if the software is really faulty or if maybe Gatekeeper isn't recognizing it as an update or what.
The previous version that was installed, I suppose I could have updated to a compatible version if I had realized it needed to be done before upgrading from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. Also while Mountain Lion found Parallels 5 as incompatible, it didn't identify Cisco Connect as incompatibile w Mountain Lion.
I think I'm going to give up on the Linksys router. Their website wasn't very helpful & it has taken hours of my time just trying to get this part of it done & then I was going to upgrade the firmware which it warned could permanently damage the router if the update was interrupted. So I was going to download it 1st & then install from download--after I found it since I have intermittent loss of connection all the time.
But w all this, wondering again about the Gatekeeper functions whether this software really was damaged or whether there was a malicious or dangerous or corrupted change or whether it just didn't comply w Gatekeeper requirements?
So how do you tell about this & what to do about it?  I mean the original warning sounded like it was all about it being damaged, but then as I read further it coudl also be that it has been changed since it was signed or whatever.
Seems like this could use some tweaking since there is a difference between software being damaged maybe during a download that I suppose could happen even from a trusted vendor vs potentially malicious software.
The way it is now, its not very Mac like--I expect Mac software to not raise questions that the average mac user doesn't understand & this does seem to do that.

Go to the spotlight search and type in settings, then you'll need to click on that then go to general and then reset home scren layout, so it will come back to your home screen.
Or you can double check your apps folder and see if its in there.

  • Can I restore settings, apps and data from an external hard drive to new Macbook Pro?

I recently lost my Macbook Pro to water damage.  It was about 3 years old and tuned for comfort.  Unfortunately, my most recent backup is at least 3 months old.  I purchased a new MacBook Pro and I'm wondering what my options are for migrating my settings, apps and data from the old hard drive to the new MacBook Pro?  I have a USB drive bay that I plan to attach to the new MBP to gain access to the old hard drive.  Someone suggested Migration Assistant but my research hasn't turned up any information about migrating data from an external drive.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

THANKS!  I guess my research wasn't THAT thorough.   I booted with the external drive attached and setup immediately gave me the option to setup using Migration Assistant.  It was a little slow via USB (2+ hours) but it was nothing compared to the time it would have taken to do it manually.  My new 15" MBP looks exactly like my old 13" MBP.  AWESOME!!!
    Thanks again!

  • Gatekeeper settings problem

I can't set the gatekeeper settings to allow downloaded apps. It won't let me select the "Anywhere" tickmark. Everytime I select the tickmark it'll jump back to "Mac App store and identified developers". Any help appreciated!

I'm having this same issue. I'm on the administrator account. I open System Preferences. I open Security & Privacy. I click the padlock in the lower-left to allow changes. I successfully authenticate. I try to change "Allow apps downloaded from:" to "Anywhere" and it won't allow me. The radio selection simply jumps back to the previous selection.

  • Gatekeeper Open Apps Downloaded from anywhere issue

    Hi,
I've configured the gatekeeper to open apps downloaded from anywhere, howeverm everytime I open any app downloaded form internet it always asks the Acept/Deny question, it seems like it's bypassing the System Preference Gatekeeper settings.
    What can I check?
    Cheers,

The database in which Gatekeeper stores its settings may be corrupt. This procedure will reset all Gatekeeper settings to their defaults. Any changes that you made will be reverted, but can be restored from backup if there's no improvement.
    Back up all data.
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out these instructions.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below to select it:
    sudo cp /var/db/.SystemPolicy-default /var/db/SystemPolicy
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. Confirm. You don't need to post the warning. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
    Quit Terminal, reboot, and test.

  • How do I hide the red "1" badge in the Settings app?

I have no intention of updating from iOS 6 to 7, as I understand it runs slowly on iPhone 4. Just today the little red "1" badge showed up on the Settings app icon and I'd like to make it go away. I tried Settings>Notifications, but Settings isn't in the list of apps to configure. Is there any way to clear it that doesn't involve jailbreaking?
    Thanks.

    No.

  • My iPod touch is stuck in the settings app. Neither the power or the front button will get me out.

After entering the Settings App on my iPod touch, I am able to navigate around settings, but pressing the button on the front does not return the iPod out of the app.  I also tried powering down by pressing and holding the power button, but there is no response.

    Try the remaining items of:

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Is there a way to open the settings app from an air app on both iOS and android?

Since you can't change the notifications settings within the app, is there a way to simply open the settings app from an air app? like a link or something like that?

Even on iOS this has only recently been added by Apple for iOS 8 only using the line:
    [[UIApplication sharedApplication] openURL:[NSURL URLWithString:UIApplicationOpenSettingsURLString]];
So you would have to wrap this in an ANE and then again, only for iOS and only call it in iOS 8+

  • After iOS 7.1 update: red '1' badge on settings app

    Dear Apple Support Communities!
The download & update to iOS 7.1 was successful. Well more or less. My iPhone 5s made no problems, everything works fine. Except the iPad Air (WiFi, 32GB). After the update to iOS 7.1 the red '1' badge on the settings app stayed stuck. (See image below)
    Here my solution tries:
Checking via Settings-Software-Update or/and Info, if I have the latest iOS version installed - I have iOS 7 (Build:11D167) installed
System reset (Home & standby button pressing) - No change
Restore from iCloud backup - No change
Restore from iTunes backup - No change
The only thing, which worked as a 'soluation' was a restore to a new device. Unfortunately I have to re-sync all my stuff manually. This is very disburbing/frustrating and I now decided to wait for a fix, iOS 7.1.1!
    Here how it looks:

  • I am trying to access my usage but iPad not responding.  Send me back out to the settings app.  Any suggestions? iPad

Tried reset home and on together with no luck, tried standard off no luck and new update double tap to close does not work for diddley.

OK. That's what I thought you meant, but the terminology was confusing to me. I get it now.
Did you try going to the Videos App, tap on Movies or TV  shows - whichever one you want to delete, then tap the Edit button in the upper right corner. All of the videos will have an X in the upper left corner of their icons. Tap on that X to delete that movie or TV Show. Tap the Done button when you are finished.
However, you have a problem that you need to fix. Your Settings app is crashing (taking you back to the home screen when you try to use it) and that's not a good thing. You need to be able to use the settings app. Quitting the apps and rebooting didn't help?

  • IPod touch 4G deleted settings app and most of my music HELP please

I have an iPod touch 4G 64GB running on ios 5.  Last night I slid the bar to unlock the screen and the slider stayed locked to the right and the iPod had locked up.  I left it and went to bed.  This morning it opened OK but my settings app has disappeared.  I have looked for it in spotlight search and it doesn't come up and being on my device.  Other weird things happened also.  All my apps had been organised into folders and all my folders have gone and i now have 10 screens of apps.  Also most of my music has gone from the music player.  When I go to browse my music around 90% of it is showing grey in the song list and can't be played.  Around 10% shows black and plays on the device.  This iPod is around 1 year old (christmas present from a year ago) and has never been jailbroken.  Can someone please help because i know that it is impossible to delete any of the default apps but the settings app has gone from the device entirely.

OK I have solved the problem I had so wanted to post it up here in case anyone else ever has the same problem.  Actually I haven't solved the problem.....the problem was that my iPod removed all of my apps from their folders....the consequence was that i had more than 176 apps which is the most that will fit on the 11 pages apple allow us to have on the device.....so I started putting them back into folders....I would get them down to 3-4 pages then do a reset (holding home and off button etc)....then when the device restarted more apps appeared and my settings was one of them.....I figure that is why it wouldn't show up in spotlight search either....it wasn't that it was hidden rather there wasn't room for it on the device.  Hope this helps others.......and APPLE.....please find out why my iPod removed all my apps frim their folders in the first place.

  • Restrictions tab causes settings app to crash

I'm using iphone 4 GSM IOS 7.0.4. everytime try to enter Restrictions section in Settings app, It crashes the settings app completely. please help ASAP.
    Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately Stage3D recording does use up a lot of memory, because it's sending every single mesh and texture over wifi to Scout. If your game has a lot of 3D resources then this could cause it to run out of memory - in this case, it's not AIR that's crashing, but the OS is killing it because of it using too much memory.
My suggestion would be to do Stage3D recording when running your content on desktop (e.g. in a simulator), since you won't have these memory constraints. If you're deep-diving into rendering, then you should be able to solve your problems on the desktop, since the rendering is the same. Profiling on device is best for looking into performance and memory issues, since you absolutely have to run it on the target platform in order to meaningfully see what's going on.

  • How do I put a password lock on the Settings app in IOS?

    Hello All,
How do I place a password lock on the settings in the Settings app on IOS devices? Be aware that I do not mean the password lock to wake the device from sleep.
    Thanks,

    You can setup Restrictions...
Tap Settings > General > Restrictions
AFAIK, it's not possible to attach a password for access to the Settings.

  • Everytime I add a keyboard shortcut, the settings app crashes.

So I go to the keyboard shortcuts section on the settings app. Then I hit the "add shorcut" button and I enter the shortcut, etc. When I finish entering everything in, I touch "save", and as soon as I do that, the app crashes to the home screen. It does actually save the shortcut, but it is a huge pain to have to navigate my way back to the shortcuts feature each time, especially because I have a lot of shortcuts that I need to enter. I have an iPhone 5 and the latest iOS. Can anyone help with this?

I have a similar issue, when I go to open the shortcuts, the Settings App crashes so I can't even get in to add more.
